Pssh, that's nothing I'm a small indie developer and I just created my first game. You can buy it right here. http://www.amazon.com/The-Elder-Scrolls-Skyrim-Xbox-360/dp/B004HYK956

Costs for the starting, complete virtual reality package that includes the headset, audio, 2 motion controllers, and the platform:

(Complete here means full headset tracking, motion controllers for hand tracking, and some sort of headphone solution for audio)

|Oculus Rift | HTC Vive | Playstation VR
---|---|---|---
Platform | $850 PC | $850 PC | $350 PS4
Headset | $600 | $800 | $400
Controllers | $??? | $0 | $60 ($30x2)
Tracking | $0 | $0 | $45
Audio | $0 | $0 | $0
Total | $1450+++ | $1650+ | $875+

* For HTC Vive and PSVR earbud alternatives, headphones have a lot of price variation. Depending on the brands you get, generally the more you pay for your audio, the better your virtual reality audio experience will be. My virtual reality headphone-type (open, closed, in-ear, etc.) breakdown can be found here. I also highly recommend looking at Head-Fi's price recommendation list for good ideas on headphones to consider purchasing.

------------------

Quick, cheap PC with minimum Rift/Vive specifications that includes everything as if you're starting from absolutely nothing.

:----|:----|:----
CPU | Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor | $189.99

Keyboard | Fellowes 9892901 Wired Standard Keyboard | $5.37
Mouse | V7 M30P20-7N Wired Optical Mouse | $4.71
| Total | $863.10

--------------------

You can cut costs further by removing keyboard, mouse, monitor, and perhaps finding a way to get a discount on the operating system. You can also change the case, or the storage for something cheaper. You may be able to lower the power supply, but I don't recommend it. If you remove the OS, monitor, keyboard, and mouse, you can cut about $160 off.

There are a few free VR games on the PSN store I believe.
https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-ca/free-on-ps-vr/cid=STORE-MSF77008-PSVRFREEG

You need PS Move controllers to go with the PS VR. Don't think they come with them. Here's an example: https://www.amazon.ca/PS3-Motion-Controller-Standard-Edition/dp/B002I0J51U

You can get Little Big Planet online from the PSN store, and in pretty much any gaming store. It's kinda old, so im sure you can find used copies at say a EBGames easily.

Your new PS4 may have also come with a PS+ trial in the box. Start with that to see if you'd like to pick up a year membership. PS+ gives you 6 free games each month (2 PS4, 2 PS3, 2 Vita games), but you need to keep your PS+ membership to play them. If you stop the membership, you do not loose the games, you just cant play them until you re-subscribe. You also get extra sale prices on games.

I love Metal Gear... and I already have two collections:

Metal Gear: The Essential Collection released in 2008 (this one was criticized by some for not including the Gamecube remake, but rather including a PS1 disk)

Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection released 2011 (again avoids any remake of MGS1 or GCN port, also leaves out Portable Ops: is basically MSG2, 3, and Peace Walker)

Is this a new thing? Release a random collection of MG games every 3 years? If there's an HD remake of the original Metal Gear (a la, the project they shut down) and MG2.. along with a port/remake of the GCN version - that would be worthwhile I guess.

If it's HD-collection redux with slightly "more HD" versions of the previous games....? I can't see them having done proper remakes in this time frame. Previous HD collection + Ground Zeroes? Same issue.

u/Kapono24 · 38 pointsr/reddeadredemption

I have some great news then, because you can play that and the DLC for just $14 right now and Rockstar can put their resources toward something we don't already have!

u/PotatoFi · 32 pointsr/n64

Edit: I badly screwed up the title. It should read, "Upgrading from Composite to S-Video", not "Component". Component would only be available on this system with an RGB mod, and then an HD Retrovision SNES Component cable.

I have a 2009-era Sharp TV with one S-Video input, so I decided to try it. Overall, I'd say it was worth $8. I wouldn't say that it's immediately noticeable, but when you look closely, you can definitely see sharper lines around big color changes. I can also see each pixel more clearly, and you can see the Nintendo 64's anti-aliasing and horizontal blur at work.

Here's what I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LE3EAIK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

To play this game you need to get a Wii U. You can play any Wii U game ^^(obviously) and you can play any Wii game. It also has Virtual Console which is older games from the NES to the Gamecube you can download and play on your Wii U.

u/tapetum_lucidum · 25 pointsr/wiiu

I saw a post a few days back about GameStop having Wii U for $99 USD. New Wii Us are very expensive.

u/Evan_Tor · 20 pointsr/3DS

Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward has one of the best stories of any game i've ever played, and it happens to be on 3DS. It is, however, a sequel to the equally amazing 999 for DS. I would recommend getting 999 and finding out if it grabs you the same way it grabbed me, and then getting VLR if you want to. You can get 999 for 25 dollars on amazon. Very much worth it. http://www.amazon.com/9-Hours-Persons-Doors-Nintendo-DS/dp/B003VR5PPY Fair Warning: They are choose your own adventure visual novels. With lots of puzzles throughout. That being said they are still both fun and gripping games.

u/mrstickman · 19 pointsr/rpg_gamers

The World Ends With You. Hands down, flat-out, bar none. This game pulls off a miracle by making the gameplay and the plot about the same thing.

u/TydeQuake · 19 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Well that did make my frontal lobe hurt. My whole brain, rather.

Also,
>A graphics card costs more than a Wii U, PS4 or Xbox One.

No. A Wii U costs $320, a PS4 costs $390 and an Xbox One costs $300.

My video card, an AMD Radeon HD 7850, costs $170. It runs everything on highest settings (that includes Skyrim with lots of (graphical) mods, and more).

(I don't have a VisionTek video card, but it's basically the same thing.)

Edit: some words.

u/OscarExplosion · 17 pointsr/patientgamers

Get the Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection

it has every major Metal Gear Solid (1-4) game you would need to play besides Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain. Otherwise if you can't find the Legacy Collection get the HD Collection. Keep in mind though if you do get the HD collection instead you will have to seperatly get the original Metal Gear Solid (It's on PSN for PS3) and Metal Gear Solid 4.

Play them in order:

  • Metal Gear Solid

  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

  • Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

  • Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

  • Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes

  • Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
u/[deleted] · 16 pointsr/madisonwi

Dude, new PS3s go for less than that. lol

Being jail-broken doesn't add value in most people's eyes; certainly not $100.

u/Orion2662 · 14 pointsr/patientgamers

Get it digitally and play it on your Xbox One via backwards compatibility. The game just went on sale an hour ago for about $10. (Requires Gold membership)

Or

get the game of the year disc version that includes Undead Nightmare on Amazon for $15 plus shipping. link

This might interest you. It's functionally a classic controller, but it has the form factor of the GameCube controller.

u/Canna_bus · 13 pointsr/truegaming

I've definitely seen this as well, and find myself agreeing with pretty much everything you said. I had a friend Gabe who when talking about a new game, the first thing he'd always comment on was its appearance. "Woah dawg, those graphics look sick!" While me and my other friend would wait till we actually played the thing and 7 times out of 10 the thing sucked. He bought these games without researching like OP originally, and eventually he learned as well, but it took him a bit longer and he'll still play something that looks super flashy to this day.

I can't help but get suckered in as well when a big title that I heavily enjoyed as a kid drops. Most recent example of this being RE6. I picked it up at midnight release and was super stoked that my SO wanted to play it with me coop.

First, the lack of customization completely pissed us off, it's like they extremely downgraded from RE4/5 and somehow thought they were improving the system by getting rid of all gun customization and instead having a small pool of about 20 perks you can choose 3 from to equip. (Speaking of perks, they seem to be a growing trend as well... they used to just be limited to RPGs if I'm not mistaken.) RE6's level design was pretty bad, 90% of the time it's go from point a to point b. There's tons of rooms in the game that are just for you to gawk at and pass through, zero interaction, just serving the purpose of simply being there and looking shiny. And shiny it is, RE6 is the best looking RE made so far, yet what's the point of all this awesome graphics when you can't do anything with it?

We beat the 3 main campaigns because we wanted our money's worth, and after we checked online we saw capcom say they'd release coop in a free patch (GGCapcom) to ada wong's campaign so that you didn't have to go through all 3 main campaigns cooperatively and then get to the final one and have to play single player. Awesome. But months later, we realized we gave even less shits than ever. We started it up, played one chapter, SO got mad at me for not sticking together, and we kinda just looked at eachother and realized this wasn't really fun. Haven't touched it since. The lasting appeal isn't there. What images of it left in my brain are basically just explosions, slick graphics, and overly cheesy cutscenes. None of this draws me back in.

Interesting note to end on here, RE6 came out on october 2nd, 2012, while skyrim came out november 11th, 2011.

RE6 is going for 19 bucks

Skyrim is still like pretty much 40 bucks

Top right is standard OEM composite cable, bottom right is nice new s-video cable w/out the composite video sitting unterminated from Amazon @ http://amzn.to/29Fx78x for only $7.50! Compatible with SNES, N64 and GCN! Honestly got a bigger jump in quality than I expected... Ordering more of these now!

u/Sirotaca · 11 pointsr/speedrun

GameCube and Game Boy Player is the standard setup. The startup disc for the Game Boy Player can be a bit pricey these days, but you can softmod the GameCube and use the free Game Boy Interface software as an alternative.

From there, you can get an HDMI adapter and HDMI capture card (lots of those to choose from). Or if you need to save some money, a good S-Video capture device like the IO Data GV-USB2, an S-Video splitter, and a GameCube S-Video cable will still get you a pretty decent-looking capture. Either way, set it up in OBS and you're good to go.

I'd suggest also getting an SNES controller adapter. I find it way nicer than using the GBA as a controller. There's also one for Wii Classic Controllers if you prefer.

u/e39 · 11 pointsr/RetroPie

Nintendo Wii U Pro

  • Pro: Connect (4 or more, but not sure why you'd ever need more) via Bluetooth without additional drivers, menus, tricks, special guides or hacks. Pair and play.
  • Pro: Seemingly infinite battery life (I'm not kidding, I haven't charged mine in weeks).
  • Pro: Magnificent d-pad construction and feel.
  • Pro: Button response and layout.
  • Neutral: Price is around $40 and these controllers are discontinued
  • Con: Size - it's a bit beefy (larger than an Xbox One or PS4 controller)
  • Con: Piano finish - don't toss these into a backpack without covering it

If you're super lucky, and near a Walmart (in the US), most stores have these on clearance for $12. If you can't find one, it's worth every penny. These controllers are discontinued and will be only going up in price. Search your zipcode here

Note: The Switch Pro is just as glorious and actually feels better in your hand. It's a bit smaller too and will work with any Xbox One / PS4 controller case. Unfortunately, at $70, I just can't recommend the controller unless it pulls double-duty with the RetroPie and Nintendo Switch.

Edit: After further testing with the Switch Pro, there's a few bugs involving the left stick. It works fine upon first pairing, anytime after ... not so great.
u/GossamerSolid · 11 pointsr/Rockband

$300 USD for a used ION kit? I'd just get an Alesis Nitro Kit instead.

You'll want the MPA if you do go that route as well as a small MIDI to MIDI cable.

u/fireofaerys · 11 pointsr/gaming

Oh boy. There's a large list of games I believe a worth completing or otherwise sinking hours in to.

Shooters

Borderlands: GOTY - I enjoyed this more than 2, but I also feel like it's more grindy than BL2

Borderlands 2

Red Orchestra 2: Rising Storm - Gather a few friends and RO2: Rising Storm is a blast. It tries hard to pretend it's realistic, but don't take it too seriously. It's a WW2 shooter, but damn it if it isn't satisfying.

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series - I linked CoP as it's the newest game, but also the best in my opinion. It's an open world, apocalyptic shooter with RPG elements. This game needs the Misery mod to go along with it. It's free and adds a legendary amount of content and replayability. In particular, fans of roguelikes and games like Dark Souls would probably like this game.

Spec Ops: The Line - No game in 2012 touched this game's story. I won't spoil much, but the action and gunplay is enough to keep you involved with the story line. If you're a fan of plots, you need to play this.

Saint's Row 2 - Arguably the best SR game, the amount of pure content and hilarious combat isn't to be missed.

Red Faction: Guerilla - This is $1.99 right now on Steam, so there's no excuse to not play this. Open world, everything is destructible and fun to blow up. I've put 120 hours in to this. There are a couple mods out there that make it even more fun, but this is the best Red Faction game to date.

Just Cause 2 - While the singleplayer is moddable and not to be missed, the recent JC2 Multiplayer mod is absolute madness. It's Red Faction: Guerilla on a hefty amount of crack.

Hitman - While Absolution is regarded as the low point by some, it's still a fun game. Killing people has never been more fun. Definitely worth a look.

Far Cry 3 - This game is nuts. Do not skip this.

PAYDAY 2 - The first game was awesome, the second one is just generous. While I often argue they were lazy with the first one, the second one is absolutely FILLED with things to spend your (ingame) money on. It's a very large game with a generous helping of content that is even further expanded upon if you play with friends.

Sleeping Dogs - For some reason, this game demands your attention. There is not a crazy, Skyrim-level amount of stuff to do, but for some odd reason it grabs and keeps your attention for hours on end. Definitely a fun open world game, the story isn't bad either.

RPGs/Strategy

LEGO Lord of the Rings - LEGO games are great, but I found LotR to be particularly satisfying. Easy to drop in and play with friends, as well.

The Guild 2 - If you've ever wanted to own your own bakery, start a family, run an Assassin organization,
or become mayor of a city then this game is for you. Multiplayer adds an extra level of fun.

Crusader Kings 2 While the DLC is a bit pricey, there is a lot to choose from. If you enjoy history, or alternative history, you will definitely enjoy this. Establish your own kingdom or conquer a current one, with a large focus on continuing your family line.

Fallout - I found Fallout 3 to be more enjoyable than New Vegas, but there isn't a bad Fallout game and you can't go wrong.

Deus Ex: HR - While it wasn't everyone's cup of tea, the visuals and RPG elements make this game a winner in my book.

XCOM: EU/EW - XCOM: EW is one of the better strategy games to come out as of late, and it's expansion -- Enemy Within -- only makes it better.

KOTOR 2 - If you can tolerate older games, you shouldn't miss out on KOTOR 2. While KOTOR 1 is awesome, 2 just blew me away when it first came out. Even if you don't like Star Wars or know anything about it, the feeling of becoming a Jedi is so awesome. And there is hours and hours and HOURS of content, the mods alone have the potential to add upwards to 100 hours of replayability.

The Elder Scrolls - Even if you've played Skyrim or Oblivion, try out some you've never played or perhaps revisit older games like Morrowind. If you have never touched an ES game, now's the time.

Anno 2070 - I'm not so sure this is worth $30, but if you wait for a sale you have a pretty sweet strategy game. It's different, but in a good way. I can only recommend you try it to see if you like it.

Action/Other

Assassin's Creed - You would find quickly that AC is one of the most time-consuming, visually-stunning, heart-racing franchises of it's time. While it had it's low points, it could very well be my favorite franchise of all time. If you aren't interested in all of the games, AC4: Black Flag is a fresh start. You don't need prior knowledge of the other games to play it. But not playing the entire series would be unfortunate.

Binary Domain - This is a very underrated game with a very awesome story. Worth a look. It's on sale right now!

Game Dev Tycoon - Not an entirely original idea, but perhaps the most well executed. With a growing list of mods and a new multiplayer mod that adds a lot to the experience, it can easily take up hours of your life.

Hotline Miami - This game is like... I don't know. It's awesome. It's bloody murder wrapped in to an LSD-tripping pig mask. Just play it, you won't be disappointed.

The Wolf Among Us - If you enjoy story-packed games with a wild amount of replayability, you can't go wrong with Telltale. The Wolf Among Us is their most recent new endeavor and even if you haven't read the comics, it's an amazing, heartfelt story. 10/10 would wolf again.

POSTAL 2 - If there was ever a game to channel your inner psychopath, it's this.

Brutal Legend - I went in to this game not knowing what to expect, having no prior knowledge of it. It has a surprising amount of content and more to unlock. Awesome soundtrack and great voice acting and a pretty large open world make this a great experience.

Metal Gear Solid - This is up there with AC. I absolutely love Metal Gear Solid. You can pick up MGS4 for cheap, also.

Sims 3 - This game can be very stupid fun, or very serious fun. It depends on how you want to play it. Which is fun to me.

EDIT: Fixed some stuff, added some games

u/thisisnotdan · 11 pointsr/patientgamers

Still waiting for Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn and Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii to come down in price. One of these days...

As for games I've actually waited a long time to play, the winner there is probably either Half Life 1 (played it for the first time this year) or maybe some old Atari games (played on one of those battery-powered hook-to-TV consoles maybe 7 years ago).

Interesting, and yet, Amazon.ca is selling them as a retailer. However, all the Amazon.com entries I found were indeed from other merchants.

You could get MGS Collection and Uncharted 3 for about the price of BF3 Premium.

A quick Amazon search reveals:

UC3 is $33 new, $25 used:

so I say go with that!

You can either play them chronologically in the order in which the games were released (I recommend this), or play them chronologically in the order in which the story occurs. Either is fine but definitely do not skip the original Metal Gear Solid.

My recommendation is to buy either:

  • Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection for PS2, which contains MGS1, MGS2, and MGS3, then buy MGS4 for the PS3, or

  • The original PS1 Metal Gear Solid + Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection for PS3 which contains MGS2, MGS3, and MGS:PW, then buy MGS4 for the PS3.

I don't know about you, but I find it difficult to start from newer games going into older games because you get "spoiled" by the updated combat mechanics of the newer games, which could make playing the older games more tedious. If you play the older ones first, you'll appreciate the better combat mechanics of the newer games. Having said that, I think that Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes for Gamecube isn't as clunky as the original since it's a remake. TBQH with you, though, it's probably not as bad as you might think.

There are a few options right now - The Mayflash adapter lets you connect a GCN controller to a Wii remote and have it spoof a Classic Controller. Additionally, the PDP Wired Fight Pad and HORI Battle Pad are Classic Controllers, but modeled after the classic Gamecube controller shape.

There's always the chance that Nintendo will make the GCN adapter work for things other than SSB for Wii U, but I'm not sure I'd hold my breath. Honestly if they just made it work in Wii mode it'd be amazing.

Also, Siren Blood Curse Episodes 1-12 only go on sale once a year during the Halloween sale. This is the lowest price it's ever been.

Castlevania SOTN is a PS1 classic that's playable on PS3, PSP, and Vita, but you might want to go with the Dracula X Chronicles for PSP/Vita as it's only $2 more and comes with original Rondo of Blood, its remake, and SOTN. Only the remake is playable at first; you'll need to unlock the others.

u/CheesecakeMilitia · 6 pointsr/Rockband

Any ekit with a midi-out port on the brain will work with the Midi Pro Adapter. The hitch is that many of the more inexpensive ekits have "midi-via-usb" ports that require a program running on a computer to convert the ekit's output to an input the Midi Pro Adapter can accept. If your midi-out port looks like this, you're good.

Once you have an ekit plugged into the MPA, it's as simple as setting the corresponding midi notes for a Rock Band config.

Also, if you're on Xbox One, you need the ridiculously expensive out-of-print legacy wired controller adapter to play with RB4. PS4 doesn't have this issue and can use the PS3 MPA just fine.

u/BaddDadd2010 · 6 pointsr/Rockband

> will it recognise the difference between toms snare and kick?

Yes.

Your best bet is to get the Roll Limitless Adapter, an adapter made by a Rock Bad player who posts here. That's a little cheaper than the Official MIDI Pro Adapter, works better, and works whether your E-kit has standard MIDI or USB MIDI.

The nintendo ones will probably be back in stock by the end of this month I'd say, hopefully with some amount to back up the demand. Last time they were available they were sold out almost instantly!

I will tell you this much: the jump from 3ds to wiiu is MUCH larger than the jump from WiiU Pro controller to GC controller, speaking from personal experience. Just getting an actual controller with actual joysticks (no offense, circle pad) will make a world of difference for you in terms of character control and responsiveness. I've seen a lot of people on this sub comment saying they felt like they got worse at the game when they got to the wiiu version; I think that's because control with the 3ds can be a little forgiving in comparison, which in the end just takes away a bit of the precision that you'll really need (and that, in my opinion, you can only really accomplish with the GC controller).

So I would say get Sm4sh for wiiu and pick up one of those controllers if you can, though I know they're a little bit pricey. It's hard to say when you'll have the opportunity to get the wiiu adapter, and this controller will be useful for other wiiu games outside of sm4sh (it's also my favorite controller for Mario Kart, for what that's worth) in the meantime, if that makes you feel any better. I've actually gotten very used to the pro controller and it works great as a substitute for the gamecube controller. let me know if you have questions about it!

Got mine about a month ago, really good. I used to run a Saturn pad through a Mayflash adapter and x360ce. Even though the purported lag through Mayflash is low, I IMMEDIATELY noticed a difference in input accuracy. It actually blew my mind because for the first month of SFV, I thought I just sucked in my input execution and had difficulty landing some combos. Turns out it was just adapter lag.

This seems like a ridiculous cash grab to kickstart. If anyone else produces something similar (very easy) and publishes the model (also easy) then your pricepoint has to compete with very cheap printing services. Even if you are integrating a usb-C dock with passthrough you are looking at a parts cost of 20-ish if you have a good relationship with your supplier, 30 for the GCC dock if you are going OEM plus plastic costs, and labor costs to refine each print. Your design will offer power passthrough, but that will make people paranoid, as well. I am not saying this is a terrible idea, but I did the same thing a few months back in just a few hours - I actually considered an integrated USB-C to A dock with power passthrough, but even from alibaba I couldn't get a quote I was happy with. I didn't try for long - USB C to single A dongles are about a buck and work fine. This keeps the final costs waaaaaay down.

I am not saying you shouldn't do this - but with the hori multiport play stand (and hori is well trusted in the smash scene) already out you are going to have to target essentially that price point, which I think will be very difficult if you intend to print and retail these yourself, or with a small staff, to turn any reasonable profit.

My advice would be to look at a high quality snap-together design you can have injection molded. this will hugely increase your costs - 20-50K for molds depending on who and where you go with, but an actual dock+GCC adapter with passthrough charging would be a significantly more useful venture than "it's like the hori thing with the GCC stuck to the bottom" which I think will be very difficult to pull off successfully unless you somehow manage to beat a 70 dollar price point.

Assassin's Creed is a great game series, but it's pretty violent - you play an assassin, after all. If you want to give it a shot, start with AC2 - it's a much better game than AC1.

Given that you liked Phoenix Wright (oh I do love Feenie.. there need to be more games in that series like yesterday), you could give Ghost Trick a shot. It's got a very similar sort of "feel" to it, though it's a bit more puzzle-y and less investigate-y, if that makes sense. It's by the same folks who did PW, for what that's worth, and I highly enjoyed it. I found the puzzle concepts really neat, too.

And given that you like mystery novels, I recommend 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors. Lots of drama, puzzles, decisions, and many different endings. Also lots of reading - it feels more like a book than PW did, to me. I haven't finished this one myself, but it sounds like it might be something you would enjoy. I liked it well enough, it was just more serious that what I was looking for at the time, and I haven't gone back to it yet.

Note, I'm assuming you have a DS of some fashion, since you said you'd played PW; both Ghost Trick and 999 are DS games.

Hope you find something that you enjoy, and happy gaming!

u/AdamManHello · 5 pointsr/Xenoblade_Chronicles

There aren't any substantive difference in terms of game play or content. The 3DS version adds a few silly features like figure collecting and streetpass functions (which just provides tokens for the figure collecting thing), but I don't honestly think anyone used those features a lot. They're entirely separate from the game, and sort of just tacked on at the end.

The main differences are in terms of graphics, but I honestly didn't mind the 3DS version at all. I really like it. I sort of prefer the 3DS graphics in a way because of my expectations of the two mediums (handheld vs. home console). I have no problem playing a handheld game with graphics like Xenoblade 3D, because the game itself is impressive for a 3DS game in terms of world size and content. However, on a home console, Xenoblade graphics feel outdated by now, and I've found that Wii games have this weird "cloudy" look on modern HDTVs. It might look better connected to a CRT TV, or maybe if you used component cables, but I don't have either option, so I'm stuck with the cloudiness of Wii games.

Then there's price and availability. You can get typically get Xenoblade 3D anywhere from $30 - $35, and it'll almost always be available. For the Wii version, right now, your best bet is the International versions they're selling on Amazon if you're in the US. The region seems odd, but it's compatible with NA consoles. Once these run out, you'll be stuck looking on eBay for copies that are sold easily for $60 - $70+ until NoA gets Xenoblade Chronicles on the eShop, as it's currently available in EU and JP.

If I were you, I would look into using the fight pad. It reports itself to the Wii as a classic controller pro and so should be compatible with all games that work with the classic controller pro, but it is shaped like a GameCube controller.

I've never used one because I have a white Wii that accepts actual GameCube controllers. However, this is what I would look into if I were in your situation. It is an officially licensed product, so it should be of pretty good quality I would think.

If you require a Gamecube controller soon, and do not already have an adapter, I highly recommend the HORI HORI Battle Pad Turbo. It includes a turbo function, ZL and ZR buttons, as well has a Home button and -/+ buttons. The triggers are different from the regular one, but they are still great. It feels the exact same to hold as a regular GCC. They instead hook up to a Wiimote, and are wireless through that. I almost never tell people to buy third party controllers, but for this scenario, I think they are very amazing for only $25.

Welcome to the wonderful world of retro gaming in 2018.
Hopefully you have a setting for it like mentioned, if not, your tv just doesn't like that resolution. Solution is different tv, modded console, or upscaler. They do make cheap ones, but they are usually not great and you get what you pay for. If you find a Tv that still supports Svideo that's the best cheap option for n64. i've actually had good experience with [this] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LE3EAIK/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) cable.
Also remember that a lot of the cheap composite to hdmi "upscalers" don't actually upscale at all. They just convert the composite line to hdmi, and still send the same signal. So you get the same problem. Also some HDMI inputs just don't like 240 or even 480i at all. I ran into this thinking a cheap $10 SD to HDMI adapter would solve a similar problem for my genesis. Nope, not a true upscaler.

All WiiU games and any Virtual Console games that are in the WiiU's eShop can be default be played 100% with the gamepad. If you want to play old Wii games you will most likely (99% of games) need a Wiimote and nunchuck. Based on personal preferences you can then opt for a Pro Controller to use with certain games if you want. For example, I played Hyrule Warriors exclusively with the Pro Controller even though I didn't have to, just 'cause.

u/PanicOnFunkotron · 3 pointsr/wiiu

I've got one of these coming with my copy. It plugs into the wii remote like a classic controller. Actually works as one on other games, too, which beats the compatibility of the adapter. Plus, if I wind up at a friend's house who doesn't have an adapter, I can still play on a GC controller.

u/Reynard_Austin · 3 pointsr/patientgamers

Dualshock 3 (With better DS3) is a good choice.

XBox One and XBox 360 Wired controllers work through USB with appropriate drivers straight from Microsoft.

This adapter with a Wii Classic Pro controller works well too (although Wii classics have gotten expensive.) Also works with this GC controller replica (and this one too.) Both of those are from reputable companies (Hori and PDP respectively.) There is a lot of demand for this stuff since Smash came out, so if this is your choice, I'd wait until after the holidays.

The XBox or DS3 controllers are better for modern games, but I absolutely stand by the Classic/Gamecube controllers for classic games and emulation.

Simple just either get a USB C adapter like [this one for ex.] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LXAUUTG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) (Doesn't have to be specifically this obv, any USB C adapter should be fine).

You could also use this USB Hub charging stand from Hori.

Both solutions will work for any USB devices that can be used on the Switch including the GC adapter.

For those who are having trouble getting a system, another option is Amazon France. They go in stock several times per week (you can check with NowInStock) and it adds up to around $120 in total.
Ignore the "cannot ship to Canada" message, I can confirm that they do indeed ship to Canada.

right now you can get a 160GB PS3 on Amazon for $250 with a $50 credit. If you count the $50 credit as a cash equivalent, you are effectively paying $200. there are undoubtedly better deals on Black Friday (Walmart for sure), but this is available now, and does not involve fighting crowds (or paying sales tax, in most states).

u/k3rn3 · 3 pointsr/startrek

$250 for a new 160 GB one. That's probably cheaper than some blu-ray players anyway.

u/sirjimithy · 3 pointsr/Rockband

You'd just need the PS3 Rock Band MIDI Pro Adapter. I'd also recommend the Nitro kit, btw. I use that one myself. If you wind up getting it and have any questions on using it with RB, let me know!

u/moneyman12q · 3 pointsr/Games

im pretty sure you could use this to plug in a real fender through midi

u/Easy_fan · 3 pointsr/Rockband
u/mystakin · 3 pointsr/Rockband

If your kit has midi out, you're playing on PS4, and you have this thing you should be all set as far as I know.

If you're on XBOX, you can still do midi out into an old Guitar Hero kit but you won't get access to Pro drums.

u/EvilTrovis · 3 pointsr/Rockband

MIDI output refers to the electronic drum kit's ability to output signals via a MIDI cable. It's a standard in the music industry and really has nothing to do with video game consoles, but you'll need it for this scenario.

The connection looks like this:

http://cdn-data.motu.com/site/images/ultralite-mk3/midi-connections_01.gif

Ideally, any e-kit you choose would have that connection (technically there are workarounds, but if you're buying an e-kit anyway, just buy one that supports it). While most modern e-kits offer this form of output, some kits only offer it via a USB cable (which is not what you want).

Now, since video game consoles don't use MIDI connections for anything, that's where the RB3 MIDI Pro Adapter comes into play. Since you're on PS4, you'd need the adapter for PS3, which is here:

https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Rock-Band-MIDI-PRO-Adapter/dp/B0042B3EOM/

In addition to that adapter, you'd need a standard MIDI to MIDI cable, which can usually be purchased for a few bucks. The end result would be your e-kit -> MIDI cable -> RB3 MIDI Pro Adapter -> connected to the PS4.

Going back to you mentioning drum brains, that refers to the module that essentially ties an e-kit together. It's the computer (if you will) that processes all of the signals and sounds, and all of the pads and cymbals of your e-kit connect to it. Every e-kit will have a brain; generally, the more you pay for an e-kit, the nicer the module is and the more features it offers.

With the exception of the ION Drum Rocker (which was a specialized, stripped-down e-kit for use with Rock Band), no e-kits will natively support Rock Band, which is why you need the RB3 MIDI Pro Adapter.

If you want to be able to simulate playing with the hi-hat open and closed, be sure to buy an e-kit that will allow you to modify the MIDI triggers for such a scenario. You'd need one that allows you to map the MIDI trigger for the hi-hat when the pedal is up to match whatever you're using as the blue cymbal, and at the same time it needs to allow you to have a different MIDI trigger when the pedal is down to match the yellow cymbal. Furthermore, you'd need to have the pedal itself not act as a bass pedal, or it would break your combo every time.

u/lukesters2 · 3 pointsr/playstation

I'd get this: Metal Gear Solid HD Collection by Konami http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0050SX97I/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_aZB0tb1B5HZ77

u/bananaslughippie · 3 pointsr/GameDeals

Or if they have a 360/PS3, they could get the HD Collection.

u/xxdofxx · 3 pointsr/patientgamers

Just to clear up any confusion (because when I went to buy these games 6 months ago I got it messed and up wasted $10.) The Legacy Collection includes The HD Collection, MGS IV, and a PSN code for MGS1 (note this ISN'T the Twin Snakes version, which is Gamecube exclusive and is much better in almost every way. So much so, that IMO you should just watch a long play on youtube instead of playing the original PS1 version.)

So if you DON'T have MGSIV and want to play/experience the whole series, absolutely get the more complete Legacy Collection. Only buy the stand alone HD Collection if you already have a copy of MGSIV and are going to watch Twin Snakes (MGS1)on youtube (which I recommend either way.)

u/midnight_rebirth · 3 pointsr/Games

  1. The whole story relation thing is kind of blurry right now, since Los Angeles exists in X's story, but Chronicles didn't take place on Earth. If you want to learn the story, check out Chuggaaconroy's ongoing Let's Play. It'll explain the whole story.

2)X is a sequel, as far as we know. There are certain things that are directly related, and some that are completely unrelated.

  2. Chronicles is great, but I would wait for it to be released on N3DS. Wii version goes for ~$100 on Amazon.

4)I'd wager there'll be no amiibo support. Have fun!

If you're looking for more western-style games, you might like the Mario and Luigi titles. They're riddled with amusing dialog and highly-interactive combat. (It's turn-based, but you can press buttons to dodge or counter-attack when the enemy is attacking.) A lot of people seemed to like Bowser's Inside Story best, although I liked Partner's in Time better. Partner's in Time forces you to use all four face buttons during combat whereas Bowser's Inside Story only uses two face buttons (plus the touch screen and mic for some battles); I think some people may have preferred Bowser's Inside Story for its simpler controls whereas I preferred Partners in Time for the exact opposite reason. That being said, both games are pretty beginner-friendly.

If you're looking for something "BioWare-esque," Devil Survivor might be the closest to what you're looking for. It has a plot with branching story paths, and the decisions you make can impact the flow of the story in very meaningful ways. (There are certain player characters that can permanently die depending on what actions you take.) It's not nearly as nuanced as something from BioWare, but there are still potential endings, and the decisions you make throughout the entire game have a bearing on which ending you can take. The only character that you can fully spec is the main character, but you have complete control over the skills for all of your human units, and a limited amount of control over the stats/skills for your monster units. n.b.: A remake of Devil Survivor is coming out later this year for 3DS, so if you were planning on buying it, you might want to hold off until this summer when the remake comes out. That being said, if you're not sure you want to pay full price and find the original Devil Survivor on sale for $15 or something, you might want to pick it up.

Several comments regarding The World Ends With You: It looks like the game is $16.50 on Amazon if you can't find it locally. I tried playing TWEWY several times and quit before getting more than an hour in simply because of how much I hated the main character. Neku's unbearable nature is intentional. It's difficult to explain why without giving up too much of the plot, but the game gets a lot better, and once I gave it a chance, it managed to hit its stride much faster than I had expected. The game doesn't really start to get fun until you get a nice selection of pins to choose from and have more freedom to explore different areas, but fortunately this all happens within the first hour of gameplay. Also, be aware that some of the pins are terrible and not fun at all to use. The idea is that out of the hundreds of pins that the game offers you, you find maybe a dozen or so that you actually like and play most of the game with those pins. (There are also several pins that are basically clones/upgraded versions of previous pins, which you'll discover when you try them out.) Try everything once to see if you like it, and if not, just move onto the next thing.

Dat is a nice canvas. I mean a really nice Canvas. 6 yards?! You could literally paint allll the the things!

Both of these are on my randoms list:

  • My current high priority item is the fitbit flex! I had been given a Force without the charger which was cool for a few days until it died and they no longer sell them anymore. I had really been wanting one for a while. Give me that little extra motivation to be more active.

  • Also on my random list is the PS Move Controller which also goes along with the more active bit. I figure if I am going to play games then I want to be active while doing so. Some games require the second controller, such as this one.

From my Doctor Who list is this badass FOB watch. Why do I want it? Because it is a badass FOB watch lol.

Excellent contes... question to ask! Thanks for doing so!

You can buy a new PS Move controller from Amazon for USD 29.99.

Throw in the original PS3 Eye camera for USD 6.49.

u/Dixonian89 · 2 pointsr/PSVR

Do it! I'd buy the moves separately though to save $40 vs the Move combo pack.

u/LukeLC · 2 pointsr/playstation

Playstation Camera, two Move controllers, and games that support them. The last bit is where you'll run into issues, as really there aren't any. PSVR will use them, Dreams will use them, and LittleBigPlanet 3 has limited uses for them, but other than that I honestly can't think of anything.

EDIT: And in case you're wondering, you do NOT need this.

OH GAMES! I can't decide just one so these two are pretty grool:

  • 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors For DS. It looks so cool. It is the precursor game to the other one, but I read it wasn't 100% necessary to play beforehand. Still looks awesome though!
  • Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward For 3DS! This game got great reviews and just seems so fucking cool. I have been on the hunt for more games like this, but sadly, a lot of them are only sold in/for Japan.

My favorite game is Touch Detective. I love all of them. I cant wait for the next one! Whenever it actually gets released here that is :( New or used is fine with me! Thanks so much for this contest :) It's an awesome idea!

Hah, I just made a post that was vaguely similar... I'd actually say check it out and see if there are any you haven't played but that sound interesting to you. I'd be really happy to elaborate on the appeal of any of the games on that list that I enjoyed.

The first one I'd say you should give a try is Bow Street Runner, though, which is a surprisingly good flash detective game with a nice historical element to it. The puzzles aren't that difficult but are enjoyable enough, the acting is actually reasonably good, you get to be a detective in Georgian England, and it's just fun.

I'd also say Ghost Trick should be something that you would definitely enjoy. It's basically your brief - a high focus on story and character development, solving puzzles & intrigue, and a bit of a pressure element (difficulty). You can't go wrong here. I loved the shit out of it, and I think you will too. Since you mentioned having a DS, try this!

Also, if you have an Android phone, Layton Brothers: Mystery Room is definitely a must try. It's a series of Locked Room Murders that you have to solve, and it resembles the AA games much more than it does the Layton games in terms of how it goes. The characters are all pretty fun as well, and I really enjoyed this and would strongly recommend it as well.

Edit: I also totally forgot to mention - 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors. It's a puzzle/visual novel kind of thing, and I found it very engaging. The plot is definitely sort of a brain twister kind of thing in the 'what even is going on' sense, but everything is explained in a pretty satisfactory way at the end. Definitely consider this one. It's basically Room Escape: The Game, but it does that very well.

u/unjustifiably_angry · 2 pointsr/nintendo

Then get this

And never save during an "escape" sequence, only during "story" sequences. There's a bug and it might corrupt your save data.

I would love to get the DS for my mom. When I was a little kid, she would play Pokemon with me all the time and I'd love to play the games with her again. I'd give her my old DS, but sadly mine broke and I had to replace it with a 3DS. I bought a copy of each Pokemon game when I had a job so I don't need any of those. Admittedly selfish of me, I'd like this game for myself.

Edit: I somehow managed to forget that Radler is rad

u/Variability · 2 pointsr/patientgamers

IMO you should try and avoid a Super Slim model. It's still possible for you to buy a brand new Slim model PS3. The old Fat ones are just that, old, so reliability is an issue and considering that income is slower for you (assumption) I'd avoid it.

The Super Slim cannot stand on it's side, and it looks pretty awful. I do own one but because I got a deal at Gamestop for trade-ins and my old Slim model I gave to my brother when he left for Uni. The Slim has a great build quality, sleek disc loading tray and is quiet and long lasting; I've had the 320GB since release (3 years?) and it's running smoothly. However, the Super Slim model is noticeably louder.

Now, for size. 160GB models are still in stock at some retailers (Futureshop (CAN)/ Best Buy has had sales for $150), and usually they're on sale since this is an older model that they're pushing out for the new Super Slim model. If you need more hard drive space you can buy another and install it yourself (google for help regarding this matter).

As for games, FAQ has some listed but search game review websites for your preference. Anyone here will just list the typical games that everyone pushes.

Oh, and get PS+ (I'm sure a BNIB PS3 you buy will be bundled with at least 30 days).

u/SG-17 · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

Every so often Sony will release a system bundle that includes a PS3 with a new game, like the upcoming ACIII bundle.

Amazon will also occasionally have sales, like right now with the systems.

u/NeoHumpty · 2 pointsr/truegaming

Since we are talking game systems, lets compare this to this. Or this to this. Oh. You want to discuss the cost of flash? What about just buying one of these? At least that comes out to be about $1 for every extra GB. Nintendo knows a thing or two about making cartridges, I don't see how they can justify the markup for what is basically a circuit board. I'm not hating on them, and like I said, I didn't realize that the cheaper one doesn't include NintendoLand. So, that was my fault. But the above example with the PS3 includes a game and 160GB more than the one that is only $50 less. I'm just not that impressed.

u/Captain_Midnight · 2 pointsr/buildapc

This is $335 before rebates, as low as I could get it while meeting your request.

u/Sketti_Snake · 2 pointsr/metalgearsolid

Yes. There are a few other games like Portable Ops, and Metal Gear 1 and 2 (Not Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2, Metal Gear 1 and 2, the ones for the MSX2 console). But it's not 100% vital you play those and besides they aren't made for the PS3 or PS4. And you'll need a PS2 to play

Getting the Metal Gear Solid HD collection for PS3 gets you everything except MGS4.

u/jordanlund · 2 pointsr/vita

I think it depends on if you played the 2 remastered games or not and if you have a PS3 or 360 or not.

If you have a PS3 or 360 then get the HD collection for that instead, because it's $40 but includes all three games.

http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Gear-Solid-Collection-Playstation-3/dp/B0050SX97I

For whatever reason (space?) the Vita version only has 2 games instead of 3.

u/mxwlln · 2 pointsr/PS4

As stated before, your best bet if you don't have a PS3 is to check if the HD collection is available for PS Now, and if you're willing to pay the price and if your connection is good, you're set.

There are two collections available for the PS3, though.

  • HD Collection: Includes Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, MGS2 HD, MGS3 HD, MGS Peace Walker HD
  • Legacy Collection: Includes all the above + MGS4 + download code for MGS1 and MGS VR Missions if you buy it new + some artwork that I don't care for but a lot of people do so you might like it.

For anyone else reading who had a similar question, my choice would be Legacy Collection since it's $43 on Amazon right now. I personally don't care for MGS4 or the Ashley Wood artbook that's included but for everything that you get, it's a good deal.

I've played thru RDR many times and it looks also amazing on the X like a remaster, John Marston was main lead character in RDR, RDR2 is the prequel to RDR. After you play RDR2 I would totally recommend playing RDR1 to follow the story.

RDR1&2 have amazing characters that you'll love along with the story and the amount of content in each will last you a long time, to me it's worth double the price tag. RDR1 I'm pretty sure you cn buy the GOTY edition on sale right now for a steal at $15 on Amazon

Do yourself a huge favor and dont miss out on either of these games!!!

Buy it right now. 360, PS3. Also, the Undead Nightmare expansion is also fantastic. It is one of my favorite DLCs of all time. It is up there with Old World Blues (F:NV) and The Ballad of Gay Tony (GTAIV)

If you think this is bad, check out the used price of Xenoblade: Chronicles.

u/Kherza · 2 pointsr/Xenoblade_Chronicles

If you're looking for a fairly priced copy to use in the US, then check out Amazon. They actually have the international version in stock almost all the time. The sticker on the cover says UAE, Malaysia, etc but it apparently works for NA consoles. In case you don't trust my comment, feel free to do some Google research you'll find many people (including in the Amazon comments themselves) testifying that it works for NA consoles.

u/Battletick · 2 pointsr/Xenoblade_Chronicles

Don't count on finding it much cheaper, it used to cost a lot more actually. The cheapest I ever saw it was between 45-50 dollars. It's actually 55 dollars new on amazon, of course this is for the reprint. (but that only matters if you're a picky collector)

If you really don't care about having a physical copy, it's on the Wii U eshop for 19.99 I believe.

> I mean nintendo seems to be the only one that knows how to make a console.

Eh? Didn't they have an initial update out of the box? Bricked some consoles iirc (pbkac) and it contained many of the online functions - internet connection (couldn't access the internet without it), NNID, eshop etc that took about 90-120 minutes. Not what you want from your new console that "works out of the box". Few noteworthy games in 2013 (I definitely remember TB going on about his Wii U collecting dust because he had nothing to play) which included cancelled multiplats like Metro, BF and Crysis. Then you get to the hardware - $335 for the 32GB version and $300 for the 8GB. The 360's 20GB release almost 9 years ago sucked then, yet Nintendo's only giving out 32GB max? What is this shit? Ffs phones have more than that. 512MB memory in 2005 wasn't that good then, 2GB was not good in 2012. 1GB of memory (DDR3 1600!) available for the devs. This isn't 2006, that is not good enough. Then you have the GPU which is worse than 2007 cards.

If that's "knowing how to make a console" then fuck me, they should give up now.

1 -- The Wii U Bundle

2 -- Because I love Nintendo and I skipped getting a regular Wii. I enjoy playing it at my parents' when I'm there. Also, Zelda. And Mariokart. And Smash Bros.

3 -- Probably... there are many games I have in my backlog to play, so I'd survive without it.

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds is actually a song I'm not as fond of as everyone else seems to be. Dunno why.

  1. A wii u.

  2. I bought one the week they were released, and had a ton of fun with it. It was great for parties, and there were a ton of games coming out I was looking forward to. However, one night I left my apartment for a couple hours and came back to find that it, along with all of my other electronics, had gotten stolen. I haven't been able to afford replacing it, so that's why it's wound up on my wishlist.

  3. Oh, yeah, of course. It's definitely a luxury item, and my life will go on without it. It's just hard having something you saved up your money for being taken from you suddenly.

I am a streamer who is looking to improve my set-up over this summer. One of the things I am looking to do is separate the audio from my game system to a USB mixer I am looking to pick-up. My big tradeoff would be that no longer I'd have separate tracks on OBS Studio (where it records the audio) but with easily being able to adjust audio live better through a mixer I think it's worth it.

-
So my set-up would be Game System HDMI Out -> Capture Card HDMI-In -> Capture Card HDMI-Out -> HDMI Splitter -> HDMI Audio Converter Extractor -> USB Audio Mixer.

Essentially after the audio converter, I'd plug this in (RCA Cables) into here (L and R Tape In on the board.) Sorry if I'm not technical enough...still learning a lot. Is this correct and would it work well?

How would I be able to send the sound out to a venue's sound system and then be able to control what they can hear on it while maintaining the stream on my computer captures a different sound?

For example: When an actual match is being played I do NOT want the commentators being heard on the live PA system as it would disrupt the competitors...so at that point I'd want the sound going to the venue system to be turned off...but once the game ends I'd want them to speak to the venue about any deals showing on screen, in general getting the crowd hype, etc. How would that be possible?

Thanks for any help you can give!

I haven't used any handheld pi. I guess there are some good alternatives though.

NDS with charger. $25 - $40 (I would get the DSi) (DSlite bumpers and things tend to wearout)

A flash cart for NDS. $15 - $20 (DSTT I hear is best) (Acekard2i is great) (R4 is hard to tell the model) (DSTWO flashcart drains battery life, is overpriced, but has built in cpu and emulators for gba snes and genesis) All are compatible with 3ds, NDS, DSi.

MicroSD. $10. Samsung EVO 32gb on amazon is a good deal

The DS has a lot of great games, snes and genesis emulators work okay but not the best. GBA emulation only works with dstwo or ez-flash.

Total $50 - $70.

PSVITA w/ charger $110 - $150. Never used one, cfw is available for firmware up to 3.68. The firmware 3.69 is not hackable.

Vita Memory Card + microsd $20. Since the proprietary memory card are so expensive.

PSVITA & TV are cfw compatible up to 3.67 - 3.68, however there may be some homebrew incompatibility on these firmwares. 3.69 is not compatible yet. CFW can load PSP homebrew as well as play PS1.

Total $130 - $170

Wii U complete console $140. Used - Very good

SD card. $15 Sandisk 64gb Extreme SDXC

DS Virtual Console Game $10 From E-shop, needed to play DS on Console/Gamepad screens.

Emulates Nintendo up to DS, has an abandoned PSX emulator from the wii. Portable and Console for TV.

Total $165

The consoles and handhelds fluctuate in price. PSvita TV was low as $40 at one time, they are a bit inflated right now but collectors items will hold value. Finding one second hand or used for half-price is probable a used PSP is easy to find for $40 but not online.

RPI $25 - $40 RPI3b+ is what I have connected to my TV. The RPI2 is similar to RPI0 and emulates PSX but not all, as per the RPI3B+. There are many SBCs, I think the OdroidC2 and Tinkerboard and NanoPI M4 are all interesting but I have not used them.

Case + Heatsink and fan $25 - $30 There are other cases Argon One, SuperPI Retroflag, many others, some bundles heatsink and fan are necessary for the rpi3b+. The retroflag controllers are not preferred.

Power Supply $15 or official raspberry pi power supply.

MicroSD $10

Controllers $15 - $35 There are a lot of options here, recycle your PS3 or XBOX360 controller, Buy a corded Ibuffalo Snes, 8bitdo SF30, logitech, retro-bit/retrolink n64. I think only the RPI3B+ and RPI Zero W have bluetooth, else an adapter is needed.

Total $75 - $130

Probably either this PS3 Bundle, this 3DS XL preferably with Monster Hunter Ultimate and Etrian Odyssey IV. Or this Wii U.

u/jatatcdc · 2 pointsr/truezelda

Sounds like the relevant titles for you are:

  • Zelda U (when it comes)
  • Twilight Princess HD (when it comes)
  • Wind Waker HD
  • Hyrule Warriors
  • and possibly Sm4sh

If you don't have a Wii, that means you'd now be able to play Skyward Sword as well, and the non-HD version of Twilight Princess.

It's as low as $222 on Amazon for a used (in "good" condition) Wii U console. If that sounds worth it to you go right ahead.

Personally I'm going to hold out and see what they announce in regards to the NX. If they're launching a new console that will also support Zelda U and the HD remakes, then no way am I splurging money on a dead console. Though, from what was said back in March, it sounds like the NX, the 3DS, and the Wii U will coexist.

A PS3 bundle. I just clicked the GTA bundle because it's my brother's favorite game.

The reason I want this item is that I love video games but I have not owned a console since I got a Gameboy color for Christmas as a child. It would also be something awesome to do with my brother.

If I never got this item, I would be sad, but I'm sure I would eventually buy myself a video game console, but it wouldn't be for another fiveish years, once I have enough money for something like that.

Having true stereo sound will really help you a lot. You will be able to hear where people are coming from before they are even on your radar. It also has a good mic. Right now you just hear stereo from in front of you and it is hard for your ears to distinguish right from left.

Using you mic and doing call outs is going to be distracting at first. But you will get a hold of it and you will start to make a big difference with your call outs. The names of the place on the map show up in the bottom left of your screen good luck.

u/Cecilgene · 2 pointsr/xboxone

If you want a decent no frills headset, I recommend the Turtle Beach XO One. It comes with the headset adapter and they sound really nice. There are separate volume controls for party chat and for game sound.

If you already have a nice pair of headphones and don't plan on chatting with anyone, a less expensive option is to just go pick up the Xbox One Headset Adapter and use any headphones or earbuds you want.

It is an interesting accessory but I since I use my headphones a lot when using my Xbox console it wouldn't be enough. I need the 3.5 mm jack to use with my gamepad and this doesn't seem to have one.

There's a S-Video input right on the back of that monitor. One side plugs directly into your console, the other into the monitor itself - super simple:

PS1/PS2/PS3 (official Sony brand and excellent quality, FYI)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000N5JS5A/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

SNES:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LE3EAIK/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

For NES, you'll also want to get a pack of these BNC to RCA connectors to use a regular RCA Composite cable off your NES: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005B4O4GG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I should add that I forgot to mention that Sega Genesis needs to be modded for S-Video - if your friend can help you mod the monitor for RGB it'll be a breeze for him (it's soldering like 5 single wires and a couple resistors - pretty darn easy). ---OR at that point, if you are actually modding the monitor for RGB, you'll probably forget about the S-Video and just use a regular SCART RGB cable or whatnot.

Also, if it makes your choice easier, S-Video really is excellent quality. You really have to see both side-by-side to notice any difference compared to RGB (especially if you're still new to all this - it's really just the finer smaller differences you can notice between the two connection types).

This

It's a Classic Controller (Plugs into the nunchuck slot of the WiiMote)

Edit: I'm using two of them myself and it's not bad. Can't compare to a WiiUPRo controller or a GC controller right now. Of note: I always used a Wavebird for Melee/Brawl. (Yeah, super-casual I know.)

You're getting the classic confused with the GameCube controller here. GameCube Controllers with the adapter can only be used for Smash. Classic Controllers (also 3rd party ones like PDP Fight Pad) plug into the bottom of wii remotes (in place of the nunchuck) and can be used with most Wii and Wii U games.

  1. All the most hyped games accept 4 players including NSMBU, Smash Bros 4, Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World and all those party games. All very kid and parent friendly, some a little bit more difficult than other.

  2. The base console only comes with a gamepad, controllers are a big price changer (for me at least). I suggest buying the Wii Remote Plus controllers as most of the games use them. Alternatively there is the Pro Controller, it's very praised, with a huge battery life and basically it's a gamepad without the screen.

  3. It's not as unpopular as expected, it depends mostly on the country, there's a huge fan base and at least I see a great future for it. You can check some of the Black Friday deals on this sub. Also Nintendo is getting it extremely right with it's exclusives, MK8 and Smash are awesome and for some "mature" games Bayonneta 2 have been very acclaimed. Next generation console is pretty far as they have just begin to launch all the main games for it.

edit: Oh and for the ps4 and xbone games that aren't available for the Wii U, Ubisoft is avoiding it and said that Watch Dogs may be the last one, you can only have a cinematic experience in Assassins Creed Unity with other consoles. We also won't have Call of Duty any more.No minecraft and something that I actually miss is the last FIFA we had is 13. So a bunch of games are available for ps4 and xbone but not for the Wii U, I would go even further and say most of these consoles games aren't on the Wii U. But hey almost all of the best games of the Wii U are exclusives too.
u/sgspace321 · 2 pointsr/nintendo

Typically no. Especially for larger tournies, wireless controllers pose as a logistical issue. You may be able to get away with one at a local with below 50 attendees, but once you go larger than that, you'll have a hard time finding TOs that'll allow them.

I believe the Wii Family Edition isn't compatible with GCN controllers. For a Wii that has GCN compatibility the Wii would have ports on the top of the console (along with 2 memory card slots) you just have to open up the top. The best I can suggest you to do is to get another Wii Remote on a site like eBay (around the 10 dollar price range for an official one) and a PDP Fight Pad or a Hori Battle Pad (which are basically Classic Controllers that are like Nintendo GameCube controllers, you plug them up to the Wii Remote like the Nun-Chuck or a regular Wii Classic Controller.)

plus a Joy-Con charging grip or one of those little Joy-Con charging stands.

u/snakecorp · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Do you know how USB charging stands like the Hori Multiport USB Playstand with no video output would affect the Switch? Is it safe to use?

It has an extra USB port (compared to the Nintendo dock) so I wonder when 4 devices are plugged in, would that would draw too much power? Or would it go through the stand and not the Switch itself? Maybe I should've paid more attention in my Intro to Circuits course...

Hey guys so with smash coming out it got me thinking about a portable setup. I have one of the hori playstands and love it and was thinking of getting a usb c to usb a adapter to plug a gamecube adapter into it in tabletop. Then I found a new hori playstand that has 2 usb ports and a charging passthrough.

I don't want to spend more on a new playstand and i like the height that i get from the one i have and started to search for a dongle that does the same thing. I found this that essentially does the same thing (usb a ports and a charging passthrough) and was wondering if it would work and not damage the switch. Understanding that switches have bricked in the past from using third party products through the usb c port would this be safe to use.

TL;DR I want to play smash in handheld and want to know if this dongle (no hdmi) would damage my switch

u/TechSupportFTW · 2 pointsr/SwitchHacks

Found an answer to my own question. This product is 100% what I need. I can break it open and redesign the stand so that it cradles the hard drive.

It's totally worth it for a tabletop mode. I mostly play Switch on tabletop mode.

HORI playstand

u/PathAdder · 2 pointsr/smashbros

This Hori dock has a usb-c port for charging and 4 USB ports. So if you really wanted to, you could charge your switch in tabletop mode while playing 8-player smash with two adapters plugged in (along with 8 gc controllers), and you wouldn’t even have to sacrifice rumble.

u/0cci · 2 pointsr/smashbros

HORI USB Switch stand

This does not have the GCC-Adapter integrated, but it costs like half of the PG adapter. You can also charge your Switch through it and it has 4 USB ports. The only downside is, that you can't plug this stand directly into a tv, as it has no HDMI output. Most people have a GCC adapter anyway, so this one is a really good option and I already use one. Hope this helps.

I'm assuming you are looking at the one for $193.92 here
I would suggest paying a little bit more and getting a $200 'refurbished' unit direct from Nintendo.
The console comes in better condition (most of these are probably new units that Nintendo took back from retailers when the Wii U went off the shelves), with all necessary cords and cables, and also includes a one year warranty from Nintendo.
In my opinion, Nintendo's refurbished consoles are the best way to buy a Wii U right now because you know exactly what you're getting and you get a great warranty package with it. If you would rather order from Amazon, the only way you can find more about what you're buying is if you contact the seller or actually order it. Amazon has a pretty good return policy so if you are missing something, I'm sure you could just send it back.

u/Boreras · 1 pointr/wiiu

All these stories have the same source: they are completely based on the Amazon UK numbers. Hence they all have the same problem in the price drop. Only one article mentions it

> And for the people who are saying it was because of the price drop and not the Xbox One reveal, that’s not necessarily the case. There have been multiple price drops in the UK and sales never spiked on Amazon like this. So it can’t be just because of the price drop. If anything, it’s a nice combination of both.

But it hasn't happened on the American Wii U set. Or the Canadian, German, French, Japanese Amazon, etc.

(I've now done more research than all those sites combined, which is pretty pathetic.)

I don't think it includes the headset. If that's the case, that's a hell of a deal. Over $210 (MSRP) worth of extras and a PS3 for only $299.

I actually want to buy a PS3 to play GTA V. I find a lot of great deals (like this one), but if you add the import fees, I'd end up paying more than if I would just buy the PS3 from my friend and pre-ordering GTA V separately.

Best bet would be to by a new one honestly. You can get the GTAV bundle for less than $300 so you get a game with it. Also the ps3 has a 500gb HDD which is great if you decide to buy PS+. There is also an Uncharted 3 bundle that has a 250gb hdd and a year of PS+ for $250 on amazon and im sure other places as well. Basically paying $170 for the ps3, $30 for the GOTY of Uncharted 3, and $50 for the PS+ subscription which will pay for itself in the games and discounts you can get. Here's the link for the bundles that let you choose which one you want.

This is not a sale, but it's still a fantastic bang for the buck. If your son is mature enough and into the series, I would highly recommend the Grand Theft Auto V 500 GB PS3 bundle: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00DBKSN8M/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?qid=1377746159&sr=8-3&pi=SL75
After applying the value of GTA 5 and the 30 day PlayStation Plus membership, you are getting the console for around $200. In comparison Sony has recently released a 12 GB version going for $200 as well. For the same price you will have access to a significantly larger storage capacity. One of the greatest values to be found on the PS3 is PlayStation Plus, featuring tons of fantastic discounts for members and up to 64 free digital games per year! If your son continues down that road, he will definitely need the extra space.

P.S. sorry for the poor formatting, I am using my phone

u/watsoned · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

The disc drive/optical drive or whatever has gone out. It was reading games, but not BluRay movies (idk, it didn't make sense) but now it's not reading anything. Just making some horrible clanking/grinding noise when I put a disc in and then sitting there doing nothing. I don't have the technical aptitude to be able to tackle it myself, and best I can tell it'd cost about $170 to send it off to Sony to get fixed since it's out of warranty (I bough it second-hand). So I decided I'll just save up $130 additional and buy this combo pack, either with AC3 or GTA V. It'd be a major upgrade as far as the hard drive goes, which is a plus since I've been using my PS3 a lot for movies lately.

This one? I don't see anywhere where it says wireless, and the image looks like it is wired?

u/Kyhan · 1 pointr/xboxone

I have this. I managed to get it for a good discount.

The sound quality is fantastic, and it comes with its own adapter. The headset itself is detachable and mostly universal (I often use it with both my computer and smartphone), and while plugged into the controller provides mic-monitoring with almost no delay—you can hear yourself as though you had no headset on.

Also, since the adapter is detachable from the headset, if the headset itself breaks (or you want to upgrade at a later date) you can just buy any new universal headset (such as this, for example) and the adapter should work.

The headset is comfortable for extended periods (within reason—I've had some ear pain after a full day of gaming). I only wish it were over-ear, rather than on-ear. For gaming headsets under $100, I think this is a major contender, and highly recommend it.

[Edit]
Almost forgot: if you just need a pair of headphones, you can detach the mic (it plugs into the left ear with a 3.5mm jack), and they work as a really good pair. My only complaint is that the cable is pretty short in this instance, so don't expect to plug it into your computer and walk away. I'm personally used to a 6-foot wire on my re-wired sennheisers, so unless you're spoiled like me, it shouldn't be a problem.

u/Bag0fSwag · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

Really wish they had the gun metal available instead of the red, but this is a pretty good deal.

Anyone know if these are worth getting over my current Turtle Beach XOnes?

u/eutral · 1 pointr/CruciblePlaybook

I use this $55 one

Comes with the adapter for the 3.5mm jack. Adapter has an easy way to adjust game vs voice audio, as well as easily mute. If you ever upgrade, at least you'll still have the adapter.

I've plugged the the headset into my computer and it works great. People always think I have a fancy mic setup.

The mic also detaches so you can use them as normal headphones.

u/SigmaTheDJ · 1 pointr/xboxone

There's the MS stereo headset for £30: -

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Official-Xbox-One-Stereo-Headset/dp/B00I41H6DQ/

I own one of those and for the money I think it's really good. It comes with the headset adapter that plugs into the bottom of your controller.

I've heard good things about this one, for the money, but I have no experience of using it: -

That one's a bit more expensive, but it comes with Turtle Beach's version of the headset adapter which has all of the features of the MS headset adapter as well as mic monitoring and adjustable bass boost.

Well first off, get yourself at least some S-video cables straight away. Some of them have some quality issues, I've had no significant interference problems with this one.

https://www.amazon.com/Gam3Gear-Nintendo-Gamecube-Video-Cable-Super/dp/B00LE3EAIK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1519447659&sr=8-1&keywords=nintendo+s-video&dpID=511QkWlFQdL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

It's not the best, but it is dirt cheap and it doesn't have a normal composite line to bleed over into your s-video feed.

I don't know this set in particular, but it looks like a pretty decent pick up as far as free consumer sets go. According to my google, it has component, so if you really want to get cheeky, you can pick up an rgb to component converter and set up a snes or genesis with component.

Nothing cheaper than the Carby for 480p, best option for a lower price is a svideo cable which will give you 480i.

This assumes you have a TV with svideo input...

u/OdinRage02 · 1 pointr/retrogaming

Here is the switcher that I use. My tv has s video input so it works great because I can use systems that output s video or composite with this one. Here is an s video cable that would work for both your SNES and your N64. Here is a composite cable that would work with your model 1 Sega Genesis, and Here would be am example of composite cables that would work with you NES.

As for the surge protector, here is the one I use and I really like it because it can hold a lot of the big power bricks that these older consoles like to use. Anyway hope that helped point you in the right direction. Of course it is a little bit of an investment, but overall I bet you will be much happier with a set up like this. I know personally I could never go back to constantly physically switching consoles out when I want to play them, this makes it so much easier to enjoy all my consoles with minimal effort. Good luck on your set up!

If it's still no good, then that's really disappointing.

u/hothraka · 1 pointr/wiiu

http://www.amazon.com/PDP-Wired-Fight-Pad-nintendo-u/dp/B00LSBNSJA

It's not really meant to be a recreation of the gamecube controller, it's moreso just the same shape and button layout. The sticks are more like the classic controller's. I haven't personally used one of these, but I think they look pretty nice. One of the common complaints about the gamecube controller is that the c-stick is so different from the main analogue stick, and this fixes that.

A remade verion of the game will never happen on the Wii U.. but there is an option for you ;)

  • On your Wii U go to into Wii mode.

  • Visit the Shopping Channel

  • Search Virtual Console games filtered on N64 games

  • Find Majora's Mask (it's there, I know for 100% sure)

  • Buy it (need credit card or you need to buy a $/€10 eShop card (or equal value depending on your location) which will count as 1000 points in the Wii Shopping Channel, unfortunately you can't tranfer money from the eShop to Shopping Channel)

  • Now you can play MM on your Wii U in Wii mode :)

Please note though: Because this is a Wii VC title you can only play with controllers made for the regular Wii, so you'll need a Wii Classic (Pro = black one) controller like this to be able to play the game.

These controllers can be plugged into the Wii mote.

Recently Nintendo also released GameCube controllers that can be connected to the Wii-mote. They are officially licenced products so they will work :)

u/LegatoSkyheart · 1 pointr/wii

Also Know that Owning a Wii U means you have access to those Wii games as well and the Wii U comes with an HDMI Cable so it's much more useful then a Wii since most new TVs don't have a Composite out or even a Component out.

Also Know that to play any of these games on either Wii or Wii U (which ever one you get) you're gonna need a Wiimote + one of these:

The PDP Fight Pad

The Classic Controller

I know you might be inclined to purchase one of these knock-offs but I would highly recommend investing in a Nintendo Pro Controller. First of all it will be covered under Nintendo warranty, and you can always send it in if it needs to be fixed. And the authentic Pro Controller has an 80 hour battery life when fully charged. They're "by Nintendo", which means Nintendo is the manufacturer. The controllers I'm seeing are either sold by Amazon or a third party vendor. This, for instance, is sold by a third party vendor, but it's an official Pro controller.

u/lilsoccakid74 · 1 pointr/wiiu
u/Icystorm9 · 1 pointr/wiiu

Yeah, there is a Wii Pro Controller that works. But you plug it into the Wii Remote for it to work. After that it's a normal controller. It's very similar to a PS2 controller but it doesn't have clicky sticks. It comes in 3 colors, so it's up to you which one to pick. If you want a white one, buy it here. If you want a black one, buy it here. If you want a golden one, buy it here. There is always the Wii U Pro Controller which comes in both white and black, but that only works on Wii U games and not Wii games.

u/activestorm · 1 pointr/gaming

Are you asking if there are any other controller options? If so, they make something called a pro controller (Amazon Link). If you're looking for an alternative gamepad, I don't think they make any.

u/Jedi_Pacman · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Hello. I have this controller that is also from HORI and the turbo button basically very quickly presses a button over and over again when you just hold it.

For example, I turn on turbo and hold the A button on the controller and the controller registers the A button over and over again. So I guess if there was a part in a game where I had to mash A to get out of something I could just turn on turbo and hold the A button and let it mash the button for me. I personally never use the turbo feature. Basically auto rapid fire.

It's called turbo because it registers the pressed button at "turbo" speeds, I guess.

It wasn't in the original trailer because the controller you have linked is from HORI, and they make third party accessories. All the accessories leaked today are from HORI and not from Nintendo, so of course this controller wouldn't be in the trailer. The controller in the trailer was an official controller from Nintendo where this one that you have linked is a third party one made by HORI.

u/Volerikan · 1 pointr/casualnintendo

You’re talking about these ones? Those are developed by Nintendo.

Then there are some Nintendo licensed third party controllers. Which look a lot like a GC controller.

u/poopnuts · 1 pointr/wiiu

As pigcheddars said, the Wii U Gamecube controller is only usable in Smash but you can use the Hori Battle Pad as a Wii Pro Controller.

u/Jakesta7 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Yeah, that was exactly the controller I was thinking about. I got the Luigi one for the Wii U. The A button just felt so clicky and cheap, which entirely ruined it for me. But this controller intrigues me since it's wireless and has all the buttons a pro controller has.

u/RakuenPrime · 1 pointr/wiiu

Keep in mind some alternatives exist. For example, the HORI Battle Pad plugs into a Wiimote and is similar to the GC controller. It can give you a GC feel without an adapter, with less wires strewn everywhere, and with a nice character-based paint job.

It's Gamecube controller-shaped Wii classic controller that plugs into Wii remotes. Great substitute for the gamecube adapter for Smash. I'm loving them so far.

This, coupled with a Wiimote, which is Bluetooth and is possible to use on a pc, would be your best solution. Hori is known for quality third-party peripherals.

u/deceptaconsoundwave · 1 pointr/StreetFighter

Same here. I use this because I heard about the d-pads and FC3 rotating after awhile.

The shoulder buttons can be very very sensitive which can work against you depending on who you are.

The d-pads and the buttons are initially very very stiff. I took to the controller like a duck to water honestly. Combos are a little easier, sometimes I find that I'm getting ahead of the inputs though.

u/Supahfree · 1 pointr/BattleForTheGrid

Any controller you're comfortable with will work. Especially a console controller. I almost exclusively play fighting games. When i was using a pad it was similar to this.

https://www.amazon.com/PS4-PS3-compatible-Fighting-commander-14210711/dp/B017QORK8W/ref=sr_1_30?keywords=wired+fightpad&qid=1569534238&s=gateway&sr=8-30

Personally i use an arcade stick but that's just cause it's how i learned to play fighting games.

u/minimalisto · 1 pointr/StreetFighter

Unfortunately the fighting commander 4 is the older version.

The 4 and 3 toggle on the front lets you switch from PS4 to PS3 modes, but there is no PC mode.

This is the newer one with 4/3/PC switch.

The fighting commander 4 you ordered is still good though, and Capcom has plans to support the game with X-input eventually.

In the meantime, I hear x360ce works really well.

u/BerenKaneda · 1 pointr/StreetFighter

It has the same price in all European Amazons, but here you have:

But its a reseller and also from Japan, so in the end it doesnt matter where you buy it.

u/jessewaste · 1 pointr/StreetFighter

There's a new version out too, I've had it for like a week and it's pretty good. I'm kinda new to street fighter and played with a xbox360 controller before, this certainly feels better.

u/amanohyo · 1 pointr/StreetFighter

No stick is fine, especially for SFV, since it is very forgiving. I'm a Gief/Guile main that started on SNES/arcades, and use a pad because the 360 motions are easier for me. I've used a Hori Fighting Commander for two years now and it's held up well. It feels a little cheap (especially the shoulder buttons), but the d-pad is smooth and responsive and 360s/720s are a piece of cake. Assuming you are on PC, I think this one should work:

https://www.amazon.com/PS4-PS3-compatible-Fighting-commander-14210711/dp/B017QORK8W/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=hori+fighting+commander&qid=1570026106&sr=8-3

Maybe once every couple years, they go on sale for $19.99 at Amazon, but anything under $40 is a good price. If you've ever used a SNES or Japanese Saturn pad, it's a good choice that will be easy to get used to.

u/MNSTRMKK · 1 pointr/StreetFighter

I'm looking for a fightpad for the PS4. The Dualshock 4 is great, but I think six face buttons would really improve my game, as I sometimes find using the bumpers and the triggers a bit confusing.

It seems that there are two options:

Hori Fighting Commander

Mad Catz Fightpad Pro

The Hori has gotten great reviews and it looks amazing (my first SF experiences were on the Sega Genesis, so I love the design), but I've heard that the d-pad breaks after a short period of time. I also would have to import it from Japan, which isn't that convenient.

The Mad Catz, on the other hand, has gotten very negative reviews, but the one I'm interested in is the new improved version. The revised fightpad seems to be well received, but there's not much information about it. And many people online seem to say that everything Mad Catz does, besides the sticks, is garbage.

So, any opinions / experiences on either of these?

>Main advantage against the first party thing is that you still get all your USB ports. And for me personally that you can pull out the brain of the box and use it as a dongle for your laptop/phone.

If people are just concerned about tabletop mode while charging and USB ports, there's a solution for that as well. Current pricing $28, and folds really slim. I LOVE it, but for me the jumpgate is a different solution entirely (we want another dock and also something to run Samsung dex). I'm sure I'll find other uses for the core drive as well.

Nope. It is a key part of the dock that it starts outputting via HDMI. Seems like what you want is a stand, like Hori's PlayStand, or if you want something the system can just sit on and be charging without extra effort of plugging in a cable Nintendo's charging stand or HORI's fancier one with more USB port.

u/Mesad1996 · 1 pointr/SwitchHacks

A bit late to answer but there is a USB hub made by HORI and is officially licensed by Nintendo. You can get it here. I own one myself but have only tested it by using controllers with it and it worked fine and charged my switch at full speed. Check it out if you want.

Both the pro controller have their strength as weaknesses, so it really depends on what you value more

GameCube controller:
Pros:

  • Comfortable to hold
  • Really well built
  • Near universally used for tournaments
  • No lag because it's wired
  • Don't have to worry about battery life
  • Analog shoulder buttons
  • Notches for the C stick and Analog stick so your directional inputs will be more precise

    Cons:
  • Only one trigger button
  • No Home, Capture, or second pause button
  • Requires an adapter to use
  • Can't use in handheld mode unless you get a portable dock
  • No motion control/HD rumble/Amiibo comparability
  • Lack of buttons and features makes it hard to use for other games
  • There will likely be supply shortages when the new Smash Ultimate GameCube controllers come out

    Misc/Personal Preference:
  • Analog triggers
  • Different button layout

    Pro controller:
    Pros:
  • Very comfortable to hold
  • Really well built
  • Has an extra trigger button
  • Has a home button, capture button, and a second pause button
  • Has motion controls, NFC/Amiibo capabilities, HD rumble
  • You can use it in handheld mode without having to buy additional accessories
  • Fully compatible with other switch games
  • Convenience (you're not always going to have access to a GameCube controller, but you're always going to have access to something with a similar button layout to the Pro controller)

    Cons:
  • Digital triggers
  • Lag (you can also use it wired but that can actually make the controller more laggy than playing it wirelessly)
  • Battery life
  • No notches

    Misc/Personal Preference
  • Digital Triggers
  • Traditional diamond shaped button layout

Like I said, both controllers feel amazing to use and are comfortable in your hands, so it all comes down to your own preference.

A lot of the GameCube controller's problems (like needing a wired connection and the lack of buttons) can be solved by buying third party controllers. I know PowerA has a wireless GameCube controller with all the extra buttons and features coming out soon. It is important to note that third party GameCube controllers have a history of bring poorly made and breaking after a few weeks. Hori also has a portable stand for the Switch with a bunch of usb docks that you could use (I don't know how to put links into text because I don't really use Reddit that much so I'll link it below). I would be careful if you're going to use it because third party docks can brick your Switch.

    Hori Switch Dock:
HORI Nintendo Switch Multiport USB Playstand - Nintendo Switch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A827XHM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_nXcXBbF1P2CAY

tl;dr GameCube controllers are great if you want to get really competitive with Smash but have a lot of issues regarding flexibility, while Pro controllers are great for adaptability but lag could become a problem.

Edit: Some formatting stuff and moved the different trigger types under a new miscellaneous category

This raving lunatic was dying in my arms. Wait, why is he putting his glasses on my fa....

Where once nothing stood, a blond teenager manifested, his left hand spread over his sick, smiling face, and in his right hand gripped a still smoking gun.

I stammered, "Who the hell ar--"

"You weren't supposed to put the glasses on", the boy sighed, cutting me off, sounding as if I'm nothing more than an inconvenience as his left hand drooped from his face, revealing a bored expression. The gun shifted away from the homeless man to me as I took off.

Boom

Ripping through the newly formed crowd I heard that gunshot tear through the air and burrow itself into my back. damn, I thought to myself as warmth overtook my body, and as my vision faded a hand gripped my hair and jerked my face towards theirs.

The boy was kneeling in front of me, the sick smile back on his face. "Well, I'm sorry you died, but you get to play the reapers' game, lucky you", the words tauntingly dripped from his mouth, my senses finally fading away.

For anyone who doesn't know, the reapers' game is a reference to The World Ends With You, a fantastic little known gem from the DS. It's highly recommended.

I tried so hard to ignore Diablo III, but when I saw a playthrough of the monk in the open beta, I blacked out a few minutes into it. When I came to, I found myself on this page. Unfortunately I don't have enough money at the moment to buy it when it comes out, but I'll definitely be looking forward to playing it when I do.

I understand what you mean about Skyrim though, I've sunk about 30 hours into the game and can't bring myself to play the damn thing anymore (though admittedly, that's probably more gameplay than I could get out of a lot of games these days). There's just too much content and not enough substance in some of these open world games, and for some reason all the decent linear RPGs have been floating over to the mobile market like you said. Just look at some of the JRPGs the DS has to offer, like The World Ends With You (more commonly known as: "The Best Thing Square Enix Has Done In Years") and Radiant Historia (both of which could probably be emulated if you so desired). So yeah, buying a PSP or DS might not be a bad deal.

On an unrelated note, can I ask you a quick question? I haven't played any Zelda games since ALTTP and have been looking to get back into the series for a while now, but can't really decide which one I should jump into. So, between Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, and Wind Waker, which would you recommend the most?

This is definitely an underutilized mechanic, which is a shame. There are only two other games that spring to mind that use drawing as a means of combat and/or world interaction. In case you're interested, these are:

The Void: An extremely abstract game, but strangely alluring (both in gameplay and world design) to me.

The World Ends With You: You may have already heard about this one. It's way more approachable than The Void, and if you like eclectic J-Pop/Pop music, it's super fun to fight to the music.

I love this! I might actually steal this idea when I start packing up.

I have several interests but I'll have to say that I've kind of had a kick recently learning about mysterious disappearances. For example, Ambrose Small Canadian Millionaire entered his office and mysteriously vanishes. It was a very popular case at the time and even Sir Arthur Conan Doyle expressed interest in the case but decided not to peruse it.

Another one that I find really interesting is the mysterious case of Nicholas Barclay who, at the age of 13, never makes it home from the basketball court. What makes this whole thing interesting is that Frederic Bourdin, a French con-artist, successfully impersonated the lost boy in spite of looking nothing like him (he had brown eyes where as Nicholas had blue) and speaking in a heavy French accent. There is a fantastic documentary about the whole ordeal called 'The Impersonator' on netflix. Frederic admitted to authorities of not being Nicholas after five months and told authorities that Nicholas' mother had confessed to him that she knew that he was not Nicholas because she had helped dispose of his body. Definitely suspicious but Frederic is a con-man so it's hard to know if what he said was true. We'll probably never know what became of Nicholas.

I think this represents me the best because I love challenges, mysteries, and weird kidnapping cases.

Wouldn't it be much more effective to spend the money on malaria nets or something instead? Let's just assume that a PlayStation 3 costs $250, a malaria net costs $5, and 1 in every 400 malaria nets saves a life. Then with a $2,000 donation, you could either buy eight PS3s, or save one life.

It's not fucking false. You're telling me that every single person in the 90s had one? That's idiotic. 200 us dollars back then is the same as 350 now. Right now, you can get the most expensive console for $250 which leaves $100 for 3 games, easy. It's not like $150 is a trivial amount of money for a kid's toy even today.

Pick one and use that instead of a pc, just kidding, but seriously listen servers are awful for any kind of pvp game especially fps games, I have no problem with matchmaking on dedis like csgo, but fuck me if I have to play cod again on listen servers. (Oh and I know you said dedis+ matchmaking, but separating an already small userbase is never a good idea)

I'm curious though, why do you want matchmaking? It can't be the party system because that works on dedis as well, it can't be that it's easier because it's not, you can easily find a server with whatever gamemode you want if you don't care about the connection which you obviously don't since you want to play on listen servers. Afraid of getting kicked by admins? True, that is a problem, but that can easily get fixed by actually using the favorites feature that every good server browser have.

u/el_fuego91 · 1 pointr/AskReddit

Well I got mine from a friend so I didn't pay much, but I've seen some on CL for for around 200 to 230. If you feel more comfortable with Amazon, their warehouse is selling some for $231 like-new. Most likely the box was dented, but no damage done to anything inside. I've bought a ton of stuff from Amazon Warehouse and everything was always in great condition. On the off chance it isn't, returns are easy.

u/ChrisF79 · 1 pointr/PS3

Amazon has the base system for $249 with free shipping. I'm in a 6% sales tax state so for me, that would save $15 versus buying it locally at Wal Mart or somewhere like that.

u/DGPantherX · 1 pointr/Rockband

IIRC, you can always find a cheap MIDI kit and use the RB3 MIDI Pro Adapter. I managed to find a kit all too similar to the ION Drum Rocker for only $50! And although it didn't have a bass pedal, I managed to create my own using a cymbal pad as well as the structure used to hold up the Guitar Hero drum kit absolutely free. If the kit doesn't work at first, you can make it work for sure using Bome's MIDI Translator too.

u/aGooseChase · 1 pointr/Rockband
u/Pandos636 · 1 pointr/Rockband

I'm not on RB4 yet, so someone correct me if my info is outdated. That drum should work just fine. The connector you need is the Rockband MIDI Pro-Adapter found Here for X-box and Here for Playstation. It's pretty much impossible to find the adapter other than online. In addition you will need to purchase a short MIDI to MIDI cable as seen here (these are pretty easy to find at any music store, but you'll pay the usual 400% markup). Total cost is somewhere around $25-$45 to get you up and running.

u/sofawall · 1 pointr/Music

Any midi kit will work. I got one preowned for about 400 CAD, new is obviously much more expensive. Honestly, I got it for practicing drums quietly (or at least more quietly than acoustic), it working with Rock Band was a bonus. PS3 and PS4 both work using the PS3 Pro Midi adapter.

Llama is a pain in the ass, but I've always been a glutton for punishment in rhythm games. Again, I'm "that guy" who prefers playing for challenge and mechanical proficiency over simply songs that are good to listen to. Songs that are good and fun are definitely my most played, though, with Rush and Iron Maiden being easily my most played artists on Rock Band.

I've also been fooling around with a PC game by the name of Phase Shift lately. The aforementioned Midi Adapter and my PS3 GH guitar worked out of the box with it, and Custom Creators Collective has a ton of good customs for Rock Band, plus a tool for converting from RB format to Phase Shift format. I've been having a ton of fun with Domino the Destitute by Coheed and Cambria, for an example of an easier song that I enjoy playing..

u/hwill_hweeton · 1 pointr/Rockband

Thanks, your reply is super helpful.

So would you say that the gameplay on ps4 is actually worse due to the roll limit (Seems many users have issues with other bugs as well)?

>there's also a user-made adapter that doesn't suffer from the roll limit. Another $50 if you end up needing it.

I assume you are talking about this. Would that be a replacement for the adapter I would need anyway? Meaning I should buy that even if I go with a ps3, to give me the option to roll limitless on a ps4 in the future.

u/protopersona · 1 pointr/Rockband

If you have this Rock Band Pro adaptor and an E-kit that outputs this kind of midi port then yes, you're good to go. The problem is simply many newer E-kits have moved on in favor of USB connections for output which will not work on the PS4 version of Rock Band 4.

u/Da_Lion · 1 pointr/Rockband

Since the DM6 only has a USB port, you'd have to connect it first to a computer. Then use a usb to midi converter to go from your computer to the midi pro adapter: http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Rock-Band-MIDI-PRO-3/dp/B0042B3EOM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1454095898&sr=8-1&keywords=ps3+midi+pro+adapter Then plug the pro adapter into the PS4.

Not sure what the software you need for the computer. Some sort of basic midi conversion thing, I guess.

u/GeoffPortnoy · 1 pointr/3DS

If you have no other method of playing it, go for it. If you have a 360 or PS3, it'd be better to go for the HD Collection, which is probably the best overall (and only $24 on amazon right now!)

u/urbanplowboy · 1 pointr/PS3

Here are my favorites:

  • Metal Gear Solid 4 (I'd recommend playing all the MGS games before playing 4, though. The first one is available in the PS Store, and the others are available in the HD collection.
  • Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas (If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with Fallout 3)
  • Uncharted 2 (All of them are great, but this one is the best, imo)
  • The Last of Us (obligatory)
  • GTA 5 (GTA4 is good too, but 5 blows it away)
  • Bioshock (All of them. Some people don't like 2, but I enjoyed it)

And I'm really enjoying Spec Ops: The Line right now.
u/Shockum · 1 pointr/gaming

The revamped graphics make things sharper and cutscenes just look great, one could say "movie-esque". Here's an old comparison video. I didn't notice that much difference in MGS, like I did in MGS2.

Gameplay was still the same from before.

Just to be clear, the collection I'm referring to is the Legacy not the HD Collection.

If anything, I'd recommend the Legacy pack. Sure, it's the HD Collection (for the most part). But, it adds in MGS4, MGS, MGS VR Missions. At $50, it's a steal.

u/insomniatica · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Welcome back!

Here's my list of suggestions, why, and links to where to get them. A few are only available on computer, but you'll see which ones:

  • Thomas Was Alone (Meta. A cute puzzle game about AIs, and their relationship to the game and developers. It's simple in graphics and big on heart. = computer - itunes - android
  • The Stanley Parable (another meta game. About the players role in games itself and their relationship to the developers. This is a MUST HAVE for anyone who is really into games. It's fantastic, hilarious and oddly artsy) = computer -
  • Telltale's "The Walking Dead" seasons 1 & 2. (These are some of the best games I've played. Point and Click adventure games that everyone loves, even those who don't like point and click games. They are extremely emotional and heart-pounding. I recommend it highly, especially if you want a game that you can watch him play, or vice versa, and really get a fantastic story. Storyline continues based on your decisions in the previous game) = SEASON ONE: computer - PS3 - XBOX360 - PSVITA - iPhone/iPad (first episode free, others are in-game purchases, same with all the mobile games) - Android === SEASON 2: computer - PS3 - XBOX360 - iPhone/iPad - Android
  • To The Moon (sweet looking 16 bit game that is more of an interactive story. It routinely makes people cry because it's so darned sweet. Love is a central theme.) = computer
  • Borderlands 2 and/or Borderlands the PreSequel (both fun and funny FPS games that you can run coop if you like) = BORDERLANDS 2: computer - XBOX360 - PS3 === BORDERLANDS PRESEQUEL: computer - XBOX360 - PS3
  • Portal (fun and funny puzzle game - but he MAY have already played this if the Half-Life 2 he got was the full "The Orange Box")
  • Portal 2 (also fun and funny, but with a coop mode as well) = computer - XBOX360 - PS3
  • Fallout 3 and/or Fallout: New Vegas (Post apocolypic games that are fun and often funny. They are open world RPGs with FPS playing style, although you can switch to 3rd person. Fallout 3 is more epic, grand and is more metropolitan, and Fallout New Vegas is more like a spaghetti western, intimate, and has better writing/storyline in my opinion) = FALLOUT 3: computer - XBOX360 - PS3 == FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS: computer - XBOX360 - PS3
  • Mass Effect 1, 2, & 3 (RPG/FPS set the future, in space, where the storyline continues, using your decisions from the previous games) = computer - XBOX360 - PS3
  • Red Dead Redemption (an open world RPG/FPS that takes pages from both spaghetti westerns and film noir. If you get this, be sure to get the add on called "Undead Nightmare", where you fight Zombies and meet mythical creatures. The base game is more artsy, and Undead Nightmare is just a squat load of fun.) The links that follow have both thenormal game, and Undead Nightmare in one. = XBOX360 - PS3

  • A different idea is to actually get him a wireless controller for his phone! If he has an Andriod, I would suggest the Power A Moga Hero Power It's portable, holds the phone, and I just am in love with mine. And because I have an Andriod, I can download ROMs to play older games like Zelda: Ocarina of Time, etc etc. But the controller works with SO many games! If he has an iPhone or iPad, or if you want another option for Android, I would go with the iPega. I don't have one, but it has the highest reviews.

As for if you should give 1 or 2 gifts, I think 2 might be a lot of fun! But it might depend on what the "1st place" person has on their list and what you want to give them! I'd say make the decision based off of what you want to give the main winner! =)

    ===========

EDIT - 3DS Games to consider:

  • Fire Emblem: Awakening - it's one of the best RPGs out for the 3DS. It's immersive and epic. Top reviews across the board.
  • Animal Crossing: New Leaf because everyone loves it so much and it's just adorable.
  • Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney because anything Phoenix Wright related is flipping amazing and totally fun.
  • Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance A great option if he's played other Kingdom Hearts games.
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. Especially if he's into Zelda, I agree with others that this is a nice option. Top-down action that returns to Zelda's roots.

edit 2: P.S: I'm new. I'll be making an intro post hopefully tonight! So hopefully it's alright that I posted here first. I was just excited, as I'm a gamer and love helping people with what to play next. In any event... HI!!

I managed to snag mine early, but another thing I looked into was the PDP Wii U version of the Gamecube controller. To clarify, it's a Wii U Controller done in the style of a Gamecube controller that wires into a WiiMote much like a classic controller for the Wii. I don't know how it performs and would like to think its a good replacement, and if I manage to get a test run on it and am satisfied might look into getting one as a 3rd Wii U Controller.

While neither look optimal, and I'm getting neither, each version has their strengths and weaknesses.

In the HORI one, the turbo switch and button is an immediate turn off. Any controller with turbo is usually third-party trash and it makes less good players, better through manipulation and I don't like that. The overall build seems like it's a cheaper plastic that the standard ones.

In the PDP one, it is super glossy which looks strange. The C-stick is replaced with a second analog stick, which may be an improvement in some cases, so I don't know how I feel about that. The D-pad looks pretty terrible as well. It is a licensed third party manufacturer on these so, I don't know if that is good or bad.

Personally, I'm getting the Smash Bros WiiU bundle with a GC controller and 4 port adapter and I can use my GC controllers I still have or a Wavebird.

If you want a GC controller spoof for the classic controller like the HORI and PDP essentially are, you can get a Mayflash adapter and just plug any old GC controller into it. I have one and it works really well. Wouldn't recommend it for frame perfect reaction games like Smash, just like I wouldn't recommend a Wavebird either, but it works well.

But just for shits and grins, lets calculate the cost of using my current HTPC. It has a 350 watt power supply. So I'm using 350 watts if I max it out.

350 watts is 8.4 kilowatts a day. Price per a kilowatt in my area is 12 cents. So it costs me roughly a $1 a day to run if I'm tweaking the tits off this thing. Which I'm not. But I digress.

Some quick googling tells me the raspberry pi uses .2 amps at 12.5 volts

This works out to 2.5 watts, 60 watts a day, or roughly 2 kilowatts a month.

I would take about 35 days and a few hours to pay for a raspberryPi, at my electric usage.

But wait, you said gaming PC didn't you? Thats RIGHT! I can game with this thing, and you can't with a raspberryPi.

PC games are on par with PS3 games, right? Most titles are transferred over nowadays.

How much wattage do one of those use?

Looks like some use as much as 380 (MORE than my HTPC), and the lowest (the super slim) uses 180 watts max.

350 (my PC) - 180 (super slim PS3) = +170 delta in wattage.

Looks like a new one is going for $275

At 170 watt/hour difference in usage (at a cost of $00.0204 per hour), I would have to game for 561 days to make up the difference in cost between my free PC that was destined for the parts bin and a PS3 Super Slim.

And thats just using nice big round numbers. Its not using a full 350 watts. Its a 65 watt CPU + another 100ish for the 2 harddrives and the video card. It might ramp to a full 200-250 if I'm actually playing a game.

At the moment the GTA5 500GB bundle starts at $360 (on Amazon). I'd say $269 is a price drop. 12GB systems go for $199 without a game (at Walmart). For $20 more and the price of a game you get much more storage.

So yeah, you could technically just go ahead and spend $199 on a 12GB system... but you'd eventually want to upgrade the HDD.

Worth mentioning there are more designs, such as a Pikachu one, a Lugi one, Link, Metal Mario, DK, Yoshi, Peach, Wario, and Samus. There might more designs, but that's all I found.
Regarding quality, they are officially licensed by Nintendo, so they should be good.
