What's weirder is how the sub-letters are reversed in order. My guess is it's some sort of ill-conceived 'efficiency' keyboard, trying to be the dvorak of onehanded typing. I bet it costs a bomb too.

Edit: Oh Jesus.

>Revolutionary Design

>Fast one hand typing using your existing touch typing skills

>Ultra compact

>Increase productivity, lets you keep your hand on the mouse, stylus, pen or joystick at all times

All for $575.00. Fucking bargain.

u/acepiloto · 68 pointsr/funny

I thought this looked pretty cool, until I saw the $575 price tag.

PCB: DZ60RGB Ansi Hot Swappable

Plate: Aluminium

Stabilizers: Cherry Stabilizers

Switches: Gateron Aliaz Silent Switches 60g

Case: 5° Frosted Acrylic 60% (Went with Frosted instead of Transparent because they were out of stock and because I heard from people that the frosted version diffuses light better) (It's also the case that has the angles on the corners instead of the one that looks like a complete rectangular box)

Keycaps: White Pudding

Proof he's legit. It's the Matias Half Keyboard

u/cupcake1713 · 32 pointsr/buildapc

Yes to all. I really like this keyboard (use it for work) and I'm a big fan of simpler mice. Ideally I would have two or three monitors, but you don't necessarily need to factor that into the budget.

Thanks so much for your help!!

u/buge · 30 pointsr/pics
u/NorrisOBE · 23 pointsr/ChapoTrapHouse

So I've checked their mechanical keyboards and their own mechanical keyboards cost more than the best budget mechanical keyboard right now

You also have this beauty costing less than Amazonbasics.

Like, come on Bezos. You could've made the first $20 RGB Mechanical Keyboard ever produced.

u/Xethos · 21 pointsr/pics

I switched to a blank keyboard years ago, helped increase my WPM and also keeps idiots off of my computer.

u/KoloHickory · 18 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Usually in the cheap range (<$40), it is hard to find browns. They pretty much all come with blues.

Other boards i like if you are in the market

Magicforce 68 Outemu browns

Redragon K552 Outemu blues

Cheapest, no.

http://www.amazon.com/Topre-Type-Heaven-104-key-Keyboard/dp/B00DGJALYW/ref=pd_sim_sbs_pc_1

I think there were some others too. The Type Heaven is made by the oem I believe so the switches should feel just as good if not better. Not a TKL however.

u/shadowstar2417 · 11 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

That same keyboard is $50 on Amazon, or you can get an even cheaper MechanicalEagle one that's also hot-swappable (though I'm pretty sure these ones only work with Outemu switches)

Just buy the keyboard on Amazon, unless you're fine waiting several months just to save $10. Don't ever use Massdrop to get anything that can be bought somewhere else, especially keyboards. I only recommend Massdrop for keycap sets that you can't get elsewhere. That listed MSRP is absolute bullshit.

u/Caruso08 · 10 pointsr/buildapcsales

Ive never tried that one, but its got blue switches which I have used before they are more clicky and stiffer than the browns in the one that I linked before.

This Z-88 keyboard is the one im using now and I love it to death, its waterproof/resistant and has RGB lighting. It also has replaceable switches so if any of them break or you want to switch to a different style of switch you can easily with out having to solder to the board.

https://www.amazon.com/E-Element-Programable-Water-Proof-Mechanical-Anti-Ghost/dp/B01FXBZXFC/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1503380671&sr=1-2&keywords=z88+rgb+mechanical+keyboard

Its 20 bucks more than the 30 dollar ones we have been linking but it honestly is worth it in my opinion

u/dreiter · 10 pointsr/hardware

Note, it's also available without backlighting on Amazon for $35.

u/mindzipper · 10 pointsr/aww

I'm going to warn you right now, you are going to need to do some of these:

  • Get very cheap keyboards because you will replace them a lot.
  • Keep a backup keyboard new, in the wrapper (there's nothing more frustrating then losing a keyboard and not having a backup)
  • OR, and this is what I do, buy the only keyboard i can find with an on/off switch, combined with a rubber cover over the keyboard to keep cat hairs out. the keyboard I use is about 60 bucks. a Logitech k800. it has an on/off switch on the top right.

the reason to do this, is if you don't the cat will start mashing on keys, typing shit to other people in chat, as well as open numerous programs you didn't even know existed, and lots of other fun stuff. Including laying on it when you aren't there, and opening so many additional chrome windows it kills the entire o/s

the rubber skin allows me to replace the keyboard at a MUCH lower rate. you'll be surprised how short a keyboard life is when it's jam packed with cat fuzz. and believe me, once they start doing it, it's hard to stop it. they do it to get your attention.

and believe me, i'm not kidding about any of this: Imgur

anyway, it's worth every penny and every second of aggravation

    EDIT: Your Weapons:

    Logitech K800: https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Illuminated-Keyboard-K800/dp/B003VAGXWK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1466177267&sr=8-1&keywords=k800

Very very nice keyboard, two years ago they were $110.00. i love the feel and low profile, but the light up keys is the best

    Rubber cover: https://www.amazon.com/Keyboard-Logitech-K800-Liquids-Contaminants/dp/B005RZ8104/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1466177320&sr=8-1&keywords=k800+cover

Surprisingly easy to get used to.. hated it the first week but got used to it and I can type as fast as i can without.

it's very thin and fits perfectly. however, use the shitty adhesive that is on the rubber, but i go over it with duct tape because the adhesive will wear out and the rubber will get distorted a little.

It gets old after awhile, so i always keep a backup keyboard, and a backup rubber cover.
u/Neralo · 10 pointsr/Android

So I actually do use a tablet for school that I take notes on and actually have written a few of my reports on as well. Honestly, any tablet would be fine (I'm using a Sony Tablet S. not the Xperia Tablet S, just the Tablet S). What matters is the apps and accessories you use with it.

Apps

I study business, so I don't really need to do a lot of writing. Instead, i type most of my notes out on Evernote. When I do need to write stuff, then I'll use Lecture Notes, though there is a free alternative, but I can't remember its name right now.

Accessories

Unless you choose a tablet that comes with a keyboard (Like some of Asus's offerings, you'll want a portable keyboard. There are some case/keyboard hybrids for certain devices like the one for the Nexus 7 I linked. If not, I highly recommend (and use myself) the Logitech Tablet Keyboard for Android. As for stylus, I use the Adonit Jot Pro cos it helps me write in my cursive scrawl better than most other stylii. Of course if the tablet comes with a stylus, use that.

You mentioned getting a Note 8. I personally feel that might be a little small, and I prefer a larger tablet, maybe 9.5" to 10", just cause its closer to paper size, so it'll be easier to write on. So i'd suggest a Nexus 10, or possibly a Sony Xperia Z, and also the Galaxy Note 10.1.

u/Topre · 10 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Here is the non-mobile link. EliteKeyboards' is the seller so that means Elitekeyboards.com may have it soon on their site.

For those wondering about the difference between Realforce/HHKB/Leopold and Type Heaven, the difference is in the keycaps. The keycaps on the Type Heaven are ABS compared to PBT on other Topre keyboard. All Topre keyboards use ABS spacebars though. The Type Heaven is also made in China, just like the Leopold FC660C.

What kind of maniac doesnt have a deluxe footpedal macro suite for all their possible pathetic keyboard presses?

u/ragflan · 8 pointsr/Android

I'm surprised the Logitech Bluetooth Keyboard for Android was not mentioned. I got this for $55 dollars in Australia for the Galaxy Tab 7.7 but it works with any tablet that has bluetooth so it should work with N7 no problems. Plus, the keyboard comes with a case which doubles as a dock for tablets. This keyboard also has Android-specific function keys. In my personal experience (note: my experience), Logitech keyboards feel better to type on but, in saying that, I have not used the 3 keyboards mentioned in this article.

EDIT: For those interested, it's $49 on Amazon and you can check the reviews.

u/buzzkill_aldrin · 8 pointsr/ipad

>I type a few essays for school every blue moon, but that's about it.

Do not underestimate the convenience of having two windows open at the same time. Yes, you can switch between Safari and Pages/Word/whatever with a swipe, but it gets old quick.

Also: you're going to want a real keyboard to type an essay. You do not want to do it with the onscreen keyboard. Period. If you're not doing a lot of typing all over the place (library, notes in class, etc), then I guess that means you don't have to get a tiny keyboard, which is good news for typing comfort.

I'd suggest either the Universal Mobile Keyboard from Microsoft (no joke) or the K480 by Logitech. Both of them are nice to type on while still small enough to fit in most bags.

those Look Really Gaudy IMO

but for a better Budget setup that looks nicer too i would instead recommend the:

the Logitech GPro/102/203.
for your mouse it is a smaller mouse but fantastic build quality and a superior Senor definitly the best budget mouse you can get right now

for the keyboard either something like the MechanicalEagle Z-77 for TKL or the VicTsing Mechanical keyboard for Numpad users. these are cheaper Chinese board using Outemu Switches instead of Cherry making them more budget friendly but still certainly a lot better than the Rubber dome keyboard in the coolermaster bundle

edit: fixed the missing sentence

u/ISpyStrangers · 7 pointsr/MurderedByWords

A steal at $575, too.

u/s32 · 7 pointsr/BuyItForLife

Damn, people actually prefer these things ಠ_ಠ

I can help you all day with a high quality mechanical keyboard which would be definitely recommended, but the only flat keyboard I can even think of is that apple one. I have no idea how you can prefer to use a flat keyboard if you are on the computer for any extended period of time. If you come around and would be okay with a normal keyboard, I'd recommend a tenkeyless keyboard, which are more ergonomic IMO. Check out the OC keyboard FAQ

I recommend a Filco Majestouch with cherry MX browns to anybody looking for a great BIFL keyboard.

u/doggify · 7 pointsr/Vive

Bass pedal input is implemented through a USB foot switch. Something like this. They are essentially one-key keyboards. Mine, for example, maps to B.

If you have one, you just hit it in the main menu then the game will recognize it. The notes will then appear as orange lines on the HUD, like Rock Band.

u/Steveenn · 7 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

HHKB - 60%, 45g uniform, available in black & white with printed or non-printed PBT caps. Also available silenced for quite a bit more money, white version only.

FC660C - 60%ish, 45g uniform, available in black w/ grey printed caps or white with white/grey printed PBT caps.

Novatouch - TKL, 45g uniform, black w/ black printed ABS caps. Cherry MX compatible stems for customizability.

Type Heaven - 100%, 45g uniform, black w/ black printed ABS caps.

Realforce/Ducky Collab - 100%, 30g uniform, 45g uniform, silenced, black w/ white printed PBT caps.

Realforce - TKL or 100%, Variable, 45g uniform, 55g uniform, black w/ black printed caps or white with white/grey printed PBT caps. Also available silenced for quite a bit more money.

Realforce Hi-Pro - 100%, 45g uniform, black w/ grey high profile PBT caps. More expensive.

Realforce 10th Anniversary - TKL, Variable, 45g uniform, 55g uniform, black w/ grey/blue printed PBT caps. Also available silenced for quite a bit more money. Is quite a bit more rare as it was a limited release, cost is pretty much double a standard Realforce TKL.

µTron - Split Ergo, not sure what switches assuming 45g uniform, white w/ white printed caps.

Vintage Boards - Pretty much any layout, weight and color scheme previously stated.

u/mwardle · 6 pointsr/battlestations

You could always get one of these and have it tucked away on the side of your desk. Seems like a nice way to keep the comfort of a 60% or TKL without sacrificing functionality.

u/chudapati09 · 6 pointsr/gadgets

You can't go wrong with Microsoft or Logitech. I myself have a Logitech K800, I love this thing. Then for a mouse I have a Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse, another amazing product. Both look sleek and sexy, function well, and haven't had any problems. Though it is over your budget, I would really recommend it.

u/amadnesstothemethod · 6 pointsr/battlestations

I decided it was time to get my home office in order. The desk needed to be big enough to accommodate my day-job laptop as well as my laptop that I use for my photography business. It also had to be small enough to fit in my master bedroom.

Inspired by the minimalist setup by /u/hazzid (https://www.reddit.com/r/battlestations/comments/4iyjjw/new_house_new_setup_let_me_know_what_you_think_my/), I got to work.

I love my Filco Tenkeyless. Great keyboard.

u/rejctchoir · 6 pointsr/Nexus7

I ended up getting the Logitech Bluetooth Android keyboard. Here is the amazon link with reviews. I picked it up for $35 refurbished off of ebay. It's much bigger than the actual tablet, but it's something that I'll only break out if I want to do some serious typing, otherwise it'll stay in my bag. So I'm okay with it. Here is a pic of that keyboard with a small android tab. The other alternative is a much smaller BT keyboard. I would recommend this one based on price and also generally favorable Amazon reviews. It will be better proportional to the Nexus, and will involve some compromise because it is small.

Repost, imgur ate the first image album.

I just finished a second crash cart for my SO, and this time I kept track of the parts I used during assembly. So as a gift to the VR subreddits I tend to follow here's some assembly photos and a full parts list should you want to build your own.

Parts list:

(1x) HF / USG Rolling Toolcart $99 with coupon - https://www.harborfreight.com/26-in-4-drawer-580-lb-capacity-glossy-black-roller-cart-61634.html

(1x) Best Buy - 9' VR Cable Extension - https://www.bestbuy.com/site/insignia-9-vr-extension-cable-black/5706844.p?skuId=5706844
Additional parts required:

(2x) 1/4 x 20 x 3/4 button cap hex screws - https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Inch-20x3-Socket-Button-Screws/dp/B015A3ABL4/
1 x 1 cable tie mounts for dressing the wiring inside the toolchest - https://www.amazon.com/Darller-Adhesive-Cable-Mounts-Holders/dp/B071WW8P83/

4" cable ties, black - https://www.amazon.com/C2G-Cables-43036-4-Inch-Cable/dp/B0002GX1XA/

And lots of blue loctite for all the fasteners during assembly.

Optional but makes life easy:

I use a K800 and M510. Logitech is the only way to go.

u/vanillaworkaccount · 5 pointsr/Nexus7

I can't speak for this keyboard but I have this logitech keyboard and it works pretty well, though the battery doesn't last long when I leave it on without use for an extended period of time. I bought a separate bluetooth mouse to go with it. Mainly I use it to use my home PC while I am at work. I highly recommend the Splashtop HD remote desktop app it is well worth the price for how good the picture is as well as the music, movie, and gaming streaming support.

u/bikehandle · 5 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

You had the optical version selected which limits your switch use a ton. You're probably looking for this -

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JVMBMNK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_hnElDbRTDRBCW

And i would recommend pcb mounts on any hotswap that supports it like the gk61. It keeps them much more secure

u/BlackMoth27 · 4 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

removing switches from even a cheap working keyboard is a waste of time. it makes more sense to just buy a gmmk tkl that will make it so you only have to insert your desoldered switches into it. i think the effort alone of having to desolder another keyboard would make it worth it to just spend 20 dollars more in the first place.

if you are going to buy a cheap keyboard keep in mind that even cheap switches aren't bad feeling.

considering the keyboard you link will take like 2/3 of a month to arrive likely without spending money on shipping.

Are you really getting downvoted for this? You're right. Running an HDMI to your room, which for some is nowhere nearby, and would need to be like 100 feet long is an inconvenience alone ($80). On top of that, you need to buy a wireless keyboard and mouse, both of which are expensive and have limited range that may not even reach if your room or a place to play is far away ($70, and $80 for gaming ones). THEN, you are expected to have a monitor in your room, and if you don't, then you need to buy one, and a decent one suddenly makes this not so convenient or cheap (For one of equal size that has HDMI input, $190). That is about $420 (/r/im14andthisisfunny), which is more expensive, and even if you find cheaper parts (I just looked for well reviewed, popular ones, which are usually a good value), setting it up is a heck of a lot more effort. If you want to move the set up, good luck. While with the Shield, you can just pick it up and go. Also, like you said, it runs Android too, which has emulators for games, and tons of other apps not available for PC.

EDIT: Also, inb4 /r/HailCorporate. Maybe, juuuuust maybe, I don't work for a company, and I just don't like to see this guy downvoted for bringing up a valid point.

Also, I think I saved Roman from the injustice earlier when he brought up a valid point. From -2 to 8! I feel proud even though I probably had nothing to do with it.

Surprise Surprise. I'm literally typing on it right now. Google is a wonderful thing.

But seriously its a fantastic keyboard.

Edit: I actually owned the keyboard you linked for the original nexus 7. Its great if you want a key board and a case all in one, but the keyboard is pretty cramped. Personally I would go with the Logitech and a separate case for when your not typing with it. I suggest the moko slim fit case.

u/MessyJesse · 4 pointsr/Nexus7

This. I bought this keyboard a few weeks ago and it works flawlessly. It even is designed for Android so it has a Home, Settings, Back, and Search button on the bottom. IT comes with a case so it fits in a backpack or book bag no problem!

Here it is: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Tablet-Keyboard-Android-920-003390/dp/B0054L8N7M

u/ptowner7711 · 4 pointsr/Nexus7

I'm in nursing school and have found the N7 to be very useful in class. Its been handy in looking things up and taking notes. I'm not a huge note-taker, but hammering out some key points is easy. I ordered this keyboard: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-920-003390-Tablet-Keyboard-Android/dp/B0054L8N7M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1348768936&sr=8-1&keywords=logitech+android+keyboard

I imagine note-taking and general use will be even easier with a keyboard. Have not yet used a stylus but I hear it works well. I guess it just boils down to whether you're a pen and paper kind of guy or prefer an electronic interface.

u/t-had · 4 pointsr/Competitiveoverwatch

u/TooEarlyForMe · 4 pointsr/thinkpad

There isn't a "converter" to use a thinkpad's (as in, a laptop's) keyboard via USB. What you see in the image you posted is a dedicated product. There are a few different ones, but you can find them by just Googling "thinkpad usb keyboard". Like this one.

u/Integralds · 4 pointsr/neoliberal

Alright, I know exactly what laptop I want and I know that it will never exist and it makes me sad.

Start with this Lenovo compact keyboard. Look at it. Notice that there's no trackpad.

Now put a laptop screen over it in the usual clamshell style.

The result is a laptop that is 305mm by 165mm. It's an x270 with the front 50mm chopped off. It would be the perfect ultraportable.

However, because it would inevitably have a 21:9 aspect ratio and lack a trackpad, nobody would buy it so nobody will ever produce it.

And don't you dare look at me and say it can't be done, because Sony basically with their VAIO P back in 2009. But there's no market for it today so we'll never get it again.

When it comes to mice, I have always loved Logitech (Every Razor I've ever owned broke). My mouse of preference is the Logitech G600

Fully customizable button binds and macro capabilities; also that third mouse button for the ring finger, lovely!

As for Keyboard, I am not picky. Just a silent type Logitech K800.

I know Wireless isn't really fantastic when it comes to gaming, but I play with it wired when gaming and wireless when just browsing.

u/MoJoSto · 3 pointsr/oddlysatisfying

I've used a K800 for a couple years which is about a low as profiles come, but the switches are so damn fragile that i've snapped several clips and the bastards are pricey to replace. its tough to find anything akin to a low profile on mechanicals, but the feels outweigh the profile :)

I have this case and though it's not what you're looking for, it kind of discourages me from recommending any sort of travel keyboard that fits the dimensions of the N7. It's just too cramped at the size, you may be better off with something more like this though I know it's not the style you're looking for, I would definitely suggest getting something a bit wider than the N7 itself. I dunno, maybe some people are able to make it work at that size but I wasn't able to make it very practical and I tried pretty hard practicing on it to get it to feel more natural.

u/tinlo · 3 pointsr/Nexus7

I don't know about designated keyboards, a case with a slim keyboard built in would be nice, but I might just get this Logitech Bluetooth keyboard and a slip cover for the tablet.

You can always get one of these micro-USB adapters and plug any regular USB device into it.

u/chrbir1 · 3 pointsr/pens

I have serious hand problems from classical bass, so I know your pain.

The best ergonomic solution for me is an ergonomic keyboard microsoft sculpt. But beyond that, I use the Lamy Safari m with smooth Levanger Colbalt Blue ink (the triangle grip and the writing experience is an absolute DREAM when it comes to a smooth writing experience), A Uniball Vision elite (the grip is great for low tension), and a Pilot Precive V5 for my main spread. I've been digging the Sharpie pen, but my hand problems have also been getting better.

The main thing is begining to train your elbow or wrist to be an anchor on the table. I try to think of my writing as a relaxed but straight and firm crane hovering over the page.

You're going to need some good pens for this to work though.

Smaller mm sizes can still be smooth to write with.

The uniball signo dx .38 is fine but very smooth, for example.

A good, fine, flexible japanese nib will also be thin but smooth like the pilot metropolitan.

u/crhalpin · 3 pointsr/macsysadmin

I use a Microsoft Sculpt with Karabiner Elements to remap the modifiers back to Apple's "standard" positions. I find Xah Lee's keyboard blog to be a great source for keyboard info. I'd suggest checking out his Best Ergonomic Keyboards 2018 list.

u/nexusxis · 3 pointsr/macsetups

Fellow econ grad student here. I used to use a mechanical keyboard until I developed some moderate RSI in my wrists and forearms. I strongly suggest the Microsoft Sculpt keyboard over a mechanical keyboard for ergonomic reasons. If you aren't in the dissertation phase already, be prepared to spend a lot of time typing.

u/corner_case · 3 pointsr/DIY

It's the Microsoft Sculpt.

http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Ergonomic-Keyboard-Business-5KV-00001/dp/B00CYX26BC

I wanted an ergoboard with short key throw, which this has. A bonus is the separate number pad allows your mouse to be closer. My only complaint is that there is a function switch rather than a function key, so switching between the F keys and their other uses is not as fast, but I got over it.

u/futureisathreat · 3 pointsr/gadgets

Done a bit of research on Ergonomic mice and keyboards lately and I have to say that I'm very happy with what I went with.

If you're willing to go through a little bit of a learning curve, a ball mouse is a great way to go (though not for everyone and not for gaming). The one I have for now is the Kensington Orbit ($23). Though I'll probably upgrade to one of their wireless versions in the near future since I enjoy it so much.

And the keyboard (less of a learning curve) that I went with and am in love with (also not for gaming) is the Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Keyboard ($59).

Heck, and while I'm at it I'll suggest a great (so far) cheap ass computer chair($80) I've been using as well.

u/Bergrin · 3 pointsr/malelifestyle

If you're going to be spending a significant portion of your work day at your desk, you gotta make that thing functional, not just aesthetically pleasing.

Like /u/DeBuurman said, dual monitors are great. But don't stop there, have them placed at the right height so you don't get neck strain. Get an ergonomic keyboard, your wrists will thank you, also a wrist pad if needed. I use this one. Backup hard drive so you can backup your computer every single day. And of course a good chair. Don't make your future you hate present you for giving him a back ache. Also, have all your electronics run off a single usb hub hidden under the desk so that your laptop only has two cords running from it (power and usb).

Other than that, I like to bring out as much of myself into my office as the standards of decorum will allow. I have some artwork made by friends, presents given to me by clients (especially my big ass abalone shell!), some boat parts from the sailboat I used to live on, and a bunch of other stuff which I think is fun to have around (like my 4' tall elephant head wood carving).

u/beyondjakez · 3 pointsr/Workspaces

It did not come with the mouse, but I bought the Anker Ergonomic wireless mouse which has paired well for it, and a great trial for the price.

u/yiajiipamu · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

This is at the very edge of your budget but it is a topre keyboard that most people have no problems with. If you want a topre and have $150 then this is a good buy.
http://www.amazon.com/Topre-Type-Heaven-104-key-Keyboard/dp/B00DGJALYW

u/Metaldrake · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

With other Topre boards, you have the options of a Leopold FC660C(a compromise between TKL and 60%), Realforce 87U(considered one of the best quality Topre boards with a solid case as well as very good stock PBT keycaps), HHKB(the 60% of Topre, bit of an unusual layout that some people swear by), Topre Type Heaven (which is basically a budget full sized topre board)

The Novatouch is probably your best choice if you want to customise keycaps, considering other Topre boards have very limited keycap options unless you do some modding. If you don't care for keycap customisation, I would recommend you get a Realforce, their quality is undeniably amazing.

Amazon has the Tecware Phantom RGB 87 key model for $45.99. I've had mine for about six months and love it. It has non-clicky mechanical keys (Otemu Brown) and has a nice weight to it. If I had it to do over again I've probably get the model with the 10-key though.

Here's both models:

For a budget mouse, get the Nixeus Revel, Ninox Venator, G403, or Rival 110. If he's playing FPS games, light mice are probably going to be the better option than something like a G502, or any Corsair mouse.

As for a keyboard, Tecware should accommodate most switch preferences.

For cans, my recommendation is the Corsair HS50, or Cloud Stinger.

u/rpiguy9907 · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

You are looking for a unicorn. The only choices in that category that I am aware of the Tecware Phantom 87 and the Drevo Tyrfing 87 (they are usually around $45-$55 here in the US). it's about twice as much but the [[logitech K830]]

a very subtle addition also makes this stand out. on the top left corner (above the esc key but not on the front surface...the 'top' surface) is a button for the left mouse click. at first i didn't see myself using it, but if you hold the keyboard in both hands like you might a controller, you can use your thumb on the trackpad and the 'shoulder' button mouse click with the other. it's a very comfortable way to use it.

my only gripe about it is that the Fn keys are red which doesn't contrast well at all with the black keys and they're also not backlit like the rest of the key. but considering that i really don't use them i consider that negligible.

The E-Element Z88 104 is probably one of the cheapest full RGB mechanical keyboards around.

The Anne Pro is a smaller keyboard but contains much of the functionality of a large keyboard and it's wireless if you want it to be (you can use it wired if you'd like) AND it's on sale on Banggood with coupon code ANNEPRO. Just pick up a cheap Jelly Comb numpad off Amazon afterwards.

Here's a good resource on some entry level mechanical keyboards.

u/pedantic_jackass · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

The full-size GMMK is a nice RGB board with hot-swappable switches. Comes in under $100 with a 15% discount code.

The MechanicalEagle Z-88 is another full-size RGB that has nice build quality. It also has hot-swappable switches, however you're limited to Outemu ICE, Invyr Panda and BSUN switches. The RGB lighting also isn't as good as the GMMK, but it's only about half the price.

The official google tablets would get it for sure. Multi windows work best on samsung tablets.

if you use cynogen mod for marshmallow, there is a functioning multi window feature if you edit build.prop

Alternatively why not type laptop in amazon and filter by the one shipping in your country? You can manually install dual boot android, or android running in windows if you really need the android function.

Whether a chromebook gets android app support should not be your main deciding factor because not all apps will work. If you really need android, you can go the tablet route. In the end, you need to know what your needs are.

For me, I used a samsung tablet+ logitech k480 keyboard it is very convenient to take down notes in android as I can quickly screenshot and crop powerpoint slides and paste inside notes. This is how neat it turns out I do have a toshiba chromebook 2 but I cant do up notes as fast as on an android tablet. handwriting is useful too

The iPad pro allows you to connect to an external display, has a higher resolution and is more responsive, but if you want to use a tablet as an EFB, then you really don't need those things. An iPad Pro is perfect for anyone that needs a laptop replacement or a dedicated creative content device, but an EFB shouldn't need too much power.
If you need to do any typing you can use the on screen keyboard or one of these 2 keyboards. And If you're okay with Android, the Samsung tab A and S5E would serve similar functions (assuming software compatibility and company policy doesn't restrict device brands) while being a little cheaper $200 and $400 respectively (depending on where you get them) as well as the S5e supporting external monitors and Dex mode (which essentially turns your tablet into a laptop in terms of software looks).

TLDR: It depends on your company and monetary restrictions, but I'd go for the iPad Air for something so straightforward

The best bluetooth keyboard with integrated touchpad I've used is the Logitech K830. It rates as a 'just ok' typing experience - they're not fantastic keys with just the right travel with a good click - but they're fine for casual typing.

For portability, I've got a Lindon-Tech Foldable. No dedicated left/right-click buttons (so you've gotta one-finger or two-finger tap). The fold throws off the keyboard layout a wee bit. The typing experience is kinda meh. But, its very compact and great for when I'm away from home.

Thanks to the other people who replied to this thread, I found out that the game does, in fact, have a slider to adjust the scaling! I glossed over the settings because I assumed that all sliders were related to audio. However, Classic mode is still impossible to play, due to everything else remaining small and the zoom being disabled.

As for the lapboard, I'm actually using something that I'd purchased for my laptop a while back: a "laptop lap desk with pillow cushion", by Cooler Master (that particular model seems to be discontinued, though, and this is the one currently available - same size, different color).

It's not ideal. I can barely fit my Logitech wireless keyboard (K830) and mousepad (by Evoluent) on top of it. But I did some research last year, when I built my PC (I had been primarily a console gamer for the last decade), and all "true" lapboard options had terrible reviews. What seemed to be the better one - the Lapdog, by Corsair - is wired, which kinda defeats the purpose

So, I decided to wait and use what I already had as a temporary solution. Now, I'm considering getting this... thing, also by Corsair. The lapboard is available separately, but since it's made for that specific Corsair keyboard (the K63), it's not worth it if you already have your own device that you enjoy. The mousepad is integrated, so you also have to take that into consideration.

Paul (from Paul's Hardware YouTube channel) has a good video showing that product (and a few others). He starts using the setup at the 16:40 mark.

Wireless, backlit, built in touchpad, USB charging.

u/phylogenik · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

personally I use a Logitech K830 for that very reason, after using a K400 for ages. Scrambling around when you want to check something in a dark room was too inconvenient. Plus it charges via microusb and feels sexier lol

They get down to $50ish on sale with decent regularity, so still a fair bit pricier than the K400. There are some refurbs and like news going on amazon in the mid $40s w/ no tax atm though if anyone here's interested but doesn't want to wait (and wants to save a few $)

u/mrteapoon · 2 pointsr/techsupport

You could either use a 3rd party program like Key Tweak or you can use the Logitech SetPoint software.

Feel free to comment or shoot me a PM if you need more help. :)

Edit: If you still have the option of returning the k400, and you don't mind spending a little more, the K830 is a great option. The backlit keys are a godsend, and the keyboard layout is much less blasphemous.

u/LORD_STABULON · 2 pointsr/intelnuc

If you want wireless because you're using a non-desk setup (i.e. some sort of living room/couch scenario) then I'd recommend a combination keyboard/trackpad. Sure, you can buy a wireless mouse to go along with a wireless keyboard, but unless you're trying to play a shooter game from the couch without a gamepad, one device is better than two.

I use a Logitech K830 and it's really great. I also own the cheaper K400 for another setup and the K830 is infinitely better. Even though I also have a nice wired mechanical keyboard for when I'm using the NUC as a desktop PC, I'll occasionally find myself using this keyboard along with a regular mouse, just for the sake of convenience.

u/hotpocketdeath · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I have this NUC: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SD9IS1S?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

And I have it in this case: http://www.performance-pcs.com/akasa-plato-fanless-case-with-serial-port-for-intel-nuc.html

The CPU has an HD6000 GPU which has partial h.265 hardware support. So playback of h.265 is practically effortless. The fanless case is amazing and keeps the whole thing nice and cool while being absolutely silent (thanks to SSD as well). The case also maintains the built in IR port so it lets me use my Logitech remote. Though it helps to use EventGhost to translate IR commands to direct Kodi commands.

Even during full playback, the whole thing draws less than 20watts.

Edit: oh, and if anyone wants to do the same, I suggest getting these as well. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UTTBN3A?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s01
That way you can attach external antennas if you want to use the NUC's wifi.

I also use this keyboard http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZOPVSKW?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00 which uses the built in Bluetooth of the NUC. So the only things actually plugged into the NUC is the power cable and HDMI cable.

Logitech K380 is what I use. It’s great. This one from Logitech. It’s multi-device Bluetooth, has pretty good travel especially compared to MacBooks, and it’s VERY quiet too. It’s quite a handy compact keyboard!

Also, I’ve had it for close to 9 months and still haven’t replaced the batteries I first put in. Auto sleep-mode works well!

Before I ended up going with the Logitech K380 and the JETech case cover, I was looking at the Dingrich backlit keyboard case. Not sure if that helps or not, but 80 reviews at 4.5 stars ain't so bad to me!

I have this logitech keyboard that I like very much. It's only 30 dollars, and actually feels really nice (to me, very similar to the apple keyboards). I paired it with a belkin case, and I'm super happy. I didn't want to always have the keyboard attached to the ipad, and I'm fine with carrying two separate parts when I need to type. I also got one of those styluses with the clear plastic tips, and I've found that it's a great way to take notes and edit PDF's.

Edit: I should also note that the keyboard can connect to up to 3 separate devices at a time.

You probably won't get original Cherry MX switches and RGB for this price, so here 2 boards with what r/mk deems decent clones. Both of these are branded E-Element, they come with clicky blues and are compatible with pretty much all custom keycap sets made for Cherry MX:

  1. If you don't care for the color orange you can get the absolute cheapest RGB keyboard available now as far as I know, the E-Element Z-88 with Outemu clone blue switches (louder than their Cherry MX counterparts) which is on amazon for $52. Every key on it can be set to any of these 7 colors: Red, Yellow, Lime Green, Light Blue, Dark Blue, and Magenta, but that's it. No true RGB.

  2. If you want true RGB and like "floating keys" (visible switches from underneath the keycaps), the E-Element RGB keyboard with Outemu clone switches would probably be right for you.

You can get it in black for $66 from amazon,

or in silver for $80 from mechanicalkeyboards.com.

Massdrop seems to have a weird version of it with ALPS stems on the switches, which means that only ALPS keysets will be compatible with it.

Here are some gorgeous photos of it with a set of custom keycaps, also some discussion about the switches in the comments.

Probably a MagicForce 68 (sold under Qisan on Amazon) or one of the DREVO brand keyboards (your choice of which one takes your fancy). Both brands have models in both black and white and ship with Prime shipping off of Amazon.
The MagicForce 68 is probably the most popular recommendation for an entry level MK.

There's plenty of good mechs for less than the price of the k55. The E-Element z88 is full size with all the RGB you could want, and a few switch types (also comes in a more compact layout if you want that). If you want cherry switches for whatever reason there's this Gigabyte Board with kinda crummy keycaps but 2 switch options and I've personally been using it for a few months and I like it fine. Point being that there are plenty of mechanical keyboards for less than the $50 dollar price point and those are just the ones I've used (or used their equivalent) so I'm using those for examples.

u/NexuGX · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

I'd pass on it honestly, the description is sketchy since their describing what sounds like blues yet what their selling is a red switch, it uses the new style outemu red switches that have a boxed design that's supposed to keep dust out of the switch, honestly I have never had that problem though... outemu switches are not the best though, well their blues are amazing but all of their other switches are on the "meh" side, if you want a better switch experience you should go for something that has Gateron Switches, since Gateron has by far the smoothest linear switches (Assuming your looking for linear switches as you say in the op)

Also the board you linked seems to require software to drive the leds and other features, that is generally annoying since there's another thing that needs to be constantly opened in the background and if the app breaks or something and the devs don't want to update it your board is as good as dead and your down to a basic keyboard.

Honestly you would have more options if you where willing to go TKL, like the Drevo Calibur 71 or the Magicforce 68, best I could find you for basic backlit full size boards are as follows :

  1. Magicforce 108 (Fullsize 108 key, Gateron Red, White Backlighting, Media Controls) - https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Backlight-Magicforce-Qisan/dp/B01HGI7YN4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1492312737&sr=8-3&keywords=magicforce+108

  2. Plugable Mechanical Keyboard (Fullsize 104 key, Outemu Blue, White Backlighting) - https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Mechanical-Enthusiasts-Backlighting-Double-shot/dp/B01MA6O13L/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492313246&sr=8-1&keywords=plugable+mechanical+keyboard

  3. E-Element Z88 (Fullsize 104 key, Outemu Blue, Swappable Switches, RGB Backlighting) - https://www.amazon.com/E-Element-Water-Proof-Mechanical-Keyboard-Anti-Ghost/dp/B01FXBZXFC/ref=sr_1_21?ie=UTF8&qid=1492313383&sr=8-21&keywords=mechanical+keyboard+rgb

Basically the last one was my "if all else fails" since you can swap them easily without having to solder.

Edit: All of the above are $50+, your probably not going to find a higher quality fullsize board with RGB for less than that, if your still constricted to your budget you should consider buying a second hand mechanical keyboard.

You will be going complete basic, with no LED's, Outemu blues (clicky MX clones, generally regarded as Louder than OG Cherry Blues) but tank-like build. You definitely get more than what you pay for in this case IMO.

Hello everyone,

I'm looking to buy my first mechanical keyboard. I don't want to spend a lot of money, and Im a TLK kinda guy. I'm looking at the Redragon K552-RGB KUMARA RGB LED (I'm aware that its over $300 Canadian - I'm going to the US next week and plan on getting it while there delivered to an Amazon box). I know there's a budget intro guide to mechanical keyboards - its where I found this one.. link to guide for interested parties

Does anyone have any other suggestions? I know I could go RGB-less and get it for WAYYY cheaper but... rainbows...

I also looked at the Mechanical Eagle Z-77 but its just fixed color LEDs - but the plain no led one is REALLY cheap...

Thoughts?

u/Gracien · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

This one has great reviews and is recommended by r/MechanicalKeyboards for affordable mechanical keyboards.

u/Publius190 · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Just decided to buy a mech keyboard for gaming and went for this cheapo on Amazon (not really looking to spend a lot.)

I really like the feel of the keys, but they are very loud. Can anyone recommend a way to reduce the noise without changing the action of the keystrokes too much?

u/SwammerDo · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

I have personally used this one for awhile and it's a decent board for the price. Its quite heavy and doesn't bend or creak at all and has a lot of metal in it. The Outemu blue switches it has are just as good as MX Blues IMO but they are noticeably louder. The case while sturdy, the keyboard kind of "rings" as you type on it because of the metal case.

Don't buy it for that "hot swapping" capability though because it won't work with any other switches except the included ones. But by itself it's a good keyboard.

u/rich1051414 · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

I suggest the EagleTec Z-77. Not only is it aluminum body, it has replaceable switches which does not require soldering. IMO, it is the best first mechanical keyboard you can buy, and the best part, it only costs 27 bucks.

u/GideonD · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

Take a look at THIS. It only comes in a Blue Gaote / Outemu switch, but for the money this thing has been awesome for me. Built like a tank and one of the heaviest boards I own. There is a lot of aluminum in this board. And oddly I find I like the feel and sound of these switches far more than the Cherry Blue. Edit: As for mice take a look at THIS one. A friend of mine has been using it for several months with zero issues. It has very good response. My only complaint is it's a bit light weight for me, but I do prefer a heavier mouse.

u/officer21 · 2 pointsr/buildmeapc

Also look into browns. Feel just like blues, but don't have the noise. There are a few options for either type of switch for around $25 to $35 on amazon, all of which are pretty good.

104 key, blue switches, RGB: $30

87 key/tkl, blue switches, blue backlight: $28

78 key, brown switches, white backlight: $26

61 key/60%, blue switches, wireless (with option to wire if you want), backlight depends on color: $40 -this one has some questionable key layouts though, arrow keys take priority over other keys. You could work around this with autohotkey I bet

u/trnelson · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

This really should be posted in the sticky, but I'll attempt to answer anyway (since I had already read your question).

You will probably want Brown switches. Not a lot of full keyboards available under $100, but there are a few. If you can get to a local store (Microcenter, Fry's) that sells mechs, I recommend trying them out, but you'll probably want Browns. Maybe Reds, but likely browns. Browns are fairly quiet, and adding o-rings really makes them quiet.

If you want a cheaper entry point, and since you're a numbers guy, you could go with something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Filco-Majestouch-TenKeyPad-Tactile-Numberpad/dp/B000MGBPNI/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1398179938&sr=8-16

I have a full Filco Majestouch Ninja with Brown (tactile) switches and it's phenomenal. The build quality is just incredible, and that link I posted would give you a good idea of the feel before going for a full keyboard. Also, if you decide you like it, you could purchase a tenkeyless board afterwards and get the best of both worlds. I considered going that route but I just like having the tenkeys on my board, and I'm not picky.

Hope that helps. But do repost in the sticky and see what others can offer. Ripster isn't being mean; we really do just see a lot of these questions lately (and we're always happy to help). :)

Good luck!

u/deltadeep · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

It looks like the answer is yes: Filco Majestouch, TenKeyPad, Tactile Action Numberpad FKB22MB - looks like this has mx brown switches. not bad -- tempted to pick one up myself!

u/RebZot · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

As much as I want you to realise that you don't need your number pad(actually you might actually need it) I will attempt to help you with your purchase.

Max Keyboard Nighthawk X7 this is a keyboard that meets all of your requirements plus it has really good build quality. In addition you will also get a nice wrist rest pad. A nighthawk with browns was my first board, and I still use the wrist pad that came with it. Also note that you select it to be blue backlit in the options.

Also just so you know, you can get a mechanical number pad eventually if you ever want to move to a TKL or 60% board.

Hope this helps.

u/Savij · 2 pointsr/battlestations

I just buy a separate peripheral like: 10-keypad. I also have a full keyboard if I really need to, but I like the smaller keyboards for the shortcut keys and especially gaming since my mousepad is gigantic.

u/TrptJim · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

I use a Filco numpad with MX Browns, placed to the right of my mousepad. It's a much better arrangement ergonomically for me.

u/a_nice_function · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

The Filco FKB22MB taken straight from the /r/mks wiki :)

u/SwissArmyDruid · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

For some reason, nobody wants to make a completely bog-standard mechanical keypad. It's absolutely infuriating. Any keypad you buy is going to make you decide.

There's a Filco keypad. But unlike a normal 108-key board's keypad, it has a double-aught. (This apparantly seems to be a thing in Japan, to reduce the number of zeroes one has to enter when dealing with currency.)

There's also the Adesso. But if you note, they give you an Escape key in the main cluster, which shoves all the keys over by one, while adding an entirely superfluous Print Screen button.

So I'm going with this option. Custom PCB.

u/the_weather_man_ · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Hey dude.

Thanks for the awesome write up. Over the last week I've been mulling over getting into my first board. I too was super overwhelmed by all the information and the learning curve. I was intimidated by the really cool custom boards but knew I was nowhere near that level yet. Just yesterday I finally pulled the trigger on these two Items Filco Majestouch Numpad and Cooler Master MasterKeys S. Im pretty excited to see where things go. I'll eventually get some keycaps.

I do a lot of number entry at work and wanted to have a left side number pad, hence the two items. I saw this board online DSI LEFT HANDED USB KEYBOARD but was a little turned off by MX-Red only and then it being a board from 2012. I'm not sure how quality has changed the last 6 years and I wanted to go with MX-Browns for my first board. Maybe a little foolish to buy two items, but I was afraid of how hard it may be to switch from red to brown.

I think I'll eventually get into a full custom board where I can have a more compact layout but still have a Tenkey on the left side. We'll see how that goes. I'm hesitant to get a bunch of tools that would be needed to make a board. Hopefully more left side tenkey options will come out some day.

Anyway, tldr: just got my first board, looking forward to the adventure. Thanks for the info and the kind welcome to the community.

u/akelis · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Just how small do you want to go? You could do something like Jack's Planck or Atomic keyboards. Or you could get just a number pad, if you wanna go miniscule.

u/mrselkies · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Off the top of my head, a keyboard that comes with blanks stock is the Das Keyboard 4 Ultimate as well as Das Model S Ultimate.

I've owned a Model S Ultimate, it was a great keyboard. Case is a glossy finish, though, so it gets shiny and it's a fingerprint magnet. Stock keycaps are also kind of thin ABS meaning they'll show signs of wear somewhat quickly.

That's what I use. I didn't even realize there were different quality keyboards until I got it. Using regular keyboards just feel funny now.

I'm not sure how much you plan to type in the future, but if you are taking up programming or some profession, try getting a mechanical keyboard with blank keycaps like this.

  1. You wont be able to poke type if you tried. It forces you to type with ten fingers without looking at your keyboard. It's scary at first, but you'll learn very quickly. Think rosetta stone, but for keyboards.

  2. Mechanical keyboards are amazing to type on. They provide constant pressure/resistance when typing, and are used by most professionals.

I have had this Logitech keyboard for over a year now, and it hasn't done me wrong. Love the lighting, and it is motion sensitive so you can wave your hand over it to light up, and it doesn't drain the rechargeable batteries by being lit all the time. Battery life is excellent too.

u/CareerRejection · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

What is your budget then? Does it have to be a TKL? Or will a smaller variant work as well? Example is the leopold fc660m here. The TKL variant fc7850r is a bit more expensive but it's along the same lines (just out of stock ATM). You can check out filco as well here just I feel that the Leopold's are better IMHO.

u/MaNiFeX · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Was my first, loved it. Very professional looking.

I will throw the CoolerMaster QuickFire Stealth w/ browns for a non-clicky TKL. Also, if you want to spend a little more for a nice MX blue TKL, check out the Filco or a Ducky TKL. The Ducky has white backlit, but that can be turned off.

u/tenkeylesss · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

TL;DR I have 3 questions:

  1. How can two keyboards with the same MX Brown switches, like the Das Keyboard Model S and the Filco Majestouch-2, have such a different tactile feel?
  2. Is there a compact tenkeyless keyboard with the same tactile feel as the Das Keyboard Model S?
  3. Are there switches with even more bump than MX Brown?

    Background story:

I'm a programmer, so I type all day, but a noisy keyboard will get me lynched by my co-workers.

A few years ago I bought a Das Keyboard Model S Professional Cherry MX Brown Mechanical Keyboard, and was instantly hooked on the tactile bump. My only complaint was its width, making it hard to pair-program and keep books etc on my desk.

Since I never use the numpad, the next obvious step was to get a more compact tenkeyless. So I bought the universally acclaimed Filco Majestouch-2, Tenkeyless with MX Brown switches. To my surprised disappointment, the tactile bump just wasn't as good as the Das Keyboard.

Hence I'm looking for a compact tenkeyless with the same bump as the Das Keyboard.

Does it have to be from Amazon? What options have you looked at already?

Pretty sure the Filco Majestouch 2 Doesn't have any form of onboard memory. I don't see why it would, anyway.

Filco has nice boards, if amazon doesn't have the black friday sales look up "filco majestouch" at some of your retailers or a shop that has them but also does the sales.

u/dantat · 2 pointsr/keyboards

in terms of brand reputation, filco is highly recommended by many keyboard enthusiasts. the TKL version and the one with TK both are cherry mx browns, excellent build quality, but also a bit pricey. The Filcos also come in a style where the the key lettering is printed on the front of the keys instead of the top (TK/TKL).

Another brand that has solid build quality is leopold. simple design, build quality that rivals the filco, mx browns and a removable USB cable.

another popular brand on reddit and in general are the das keyboards. Also not backlit, but like the filco, the build quality's great, though some people don't care for the glossy finish (looks great, but attracts fingerprints like crazy).

if backlighting is important to you, the razer blackwidow has features more suited towards gamers (macro keys, backlighting, earphone/mic jacks, usb port) though the build quality would be arguably better on the first 3.

Something I'm looking into at the moment to fill the time is typist transcribing. basically listening to audio and typing it up.

Here's some websites to help:

https://takenotetyping.com/careers/

https://www.peopleperhour.com/site/register?rfrd=354611.1

https://www.uktranscription.com/3/

Protip: better be fast at typing, also you'll need some pedals .

People complain that they don't get paid much per hour but a combination of the above and in some cases you'll earn around £15 per hour.

The only difficulty is either bad audio files (quiet talkers, people talking over each other) or not getting enough work when you're available. I've heard that my second two links are better companies to work for than Takenote.

Hope it helps my dude.

u/GGGenom · 2 pointsr/electricians

Ohhhhhh... Well, that's slightly less insane, but hell of a lot trickier. If you're trying to use a momentary contact switch as a computer input, the shape of the plug is the least of your challenges. You could always buy a working solution, but that's not as much fun.

u/casfacto · 2 pointsr/Corsair

> I bind my discord/VOIP program mute mic/headphones

I used a foot pedal for my push to talk. This one I think, on Amazon. However, I've got a set of rudder pedals coming, which take both my feet. You sir have solved my problem.

Now all I need to do is get Ol' Left Pinky trained up!

u/g9k · 2 pointsr/wow

Here's a pretty cheap option: https://www.amazon.com/USB-Foot-Switch-Keyboard-Pedal/dp/B008MU0TBU

I've been pondering a bit about how you could make a fully functional setup using only your right hand and your feet...

If you had 3 foot pedals, you could bind two of them for strafe, scroll wheel to jump, and use the standard both mouse buttons for forward. That way you would only lack backpedalling, but a lot of ppl unbind that anyways...

For spells you would use the sidebuttons on the naga and the last pedal as a modifier, to have a total of 24 hotkeys.

This setup would probably require a bit of practise for the right hand, and a way to make sure the pedals don't slip around on the floor :)

Edit: Kinda unrelated to wow, but check out this right handed keyboard from Maltron: http://www.maltron.com/component/content/article/11.html :D

u/Docteh · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

USB foot switch? I was going to link some random parts for putting one together, but I did a google search and of course they exist as a product.

u/tsoliman · 2 pointsr/RetroPie

It's too bad it needs a (windows-only) driver. I wanted a regular HID usb keyboard pedal for that cheap. No driver needed.

EDIT: this one seems to need windows to program it but then it is a regular HID keyboard in Linux/whatever.

u/mysticreddit · 2 pointsr/diablo3

Sorry to hear about your pain. Going to make a mental note about the Tiger Balm as my wrists are just starting to show symptoms.

Oooh, Foot Triggers! Now that's a interesting idea -- I would have never thought of that! Thanks for the idea and lateral thinking! I see you can even get a cheap one for $10.

u/secretlydifferent · 2 pointsr/gaming

If you don't mind my asking, how much of your left arm do you have? If your wrist is still there, then maybe you could look into giving these guys a shout. If you could find a way to operate a mouse -or a trackball- with your left arm (I suspect that would be a challenge depending on your dominant side) you'd be able to dedicate your right hand to buttons on the numpad.

If you're not able to operate a mouse/trackball with your left arm, you mentioned you used your left arm for just the spacebar. Maybe you could wire up a bunch of these to a board and map them to abilities/ults.

Most options for you would involve some DIY work, but the one that would require the least taking apart and building of gadgets, and would probably give you the best performance would be the following:

Operate a trackball with your left arm, and use foot pedals mapped to right and left click (which you might have an easier time using your left and right foot for, respectively), while using a keyboard/numpad with your right hand.

I realize that to move your left arm over a trackball for long periods of time you'd need some serious forearm strength. Maybe you could look into a super simple prosthesis if you don't have one, just to provide you with more surface area to run across the ball.

If I had more technical skills/ resources I would look into building something for you as it's a project I'd be very interested in, but at the moment I'm not capable of doing so.

I hope these ideas might help you out a bit. I expect that learning to operate a trackball will be very difficult, but if you build the muscle memory I suspect you'd be almost entirely unimpeded while using the above setup. Let me know if this helps at all. I wish you the best of luck.

u/Hastati · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I had the same situation as your bro but the mouse hand which is the worse one to break imo. Look into the total war series.

Also look at this $8 usbfoot pedal. He can use his foot to press a button which can be set to any key. Once he is back to CSGO he can use it as the push to talk button. Great $10 additional to your pc.

Also a mmo mouse with 12 keys that his right thumb can press. He can keybind it to any key. I have razer naga and the additional buttons are great for all games including fps.

u/scouto · 2 pointsr/EliteDangerous

I know that's how they are used in planes but for elite I'd have them for forwards / backwards ;)

I’ve heard good things about these Massdrop x Sennheiser (basically a cosmetic overhaul of the HD650s) headphones. They’re 199.99 USD if you can’t see the price.

For gaming I personally use a Blue Yeti desktop mic, with one of these as my push to talk button:

My speakers are Klipsch powered monitors (R-15PM) connected to a Polk subwoofer.

I don’t really like wearing headphones unless I have to, as I find them to make my ears warm after a while and become uncomfortable. When I do have to wear a headset because I’m unable to blast my audio for whatever reason, late at night for example, I use a Sennheiser PC gaming headset (PC373D), its served me well for a long time with light use.

Yeah, I can agree that typing is a throttle on taking what's in my head and putting it in text. It does become a pain when writing documentation.

I recently bought the Microsoft Sculpt keyboard, it's been good thus far. Once I'm more proficent at touch-typing, I might go deep and get a Kinesis Advantage2, since my wrists are already messed up I should take the utmost care with them.

u/PenPenGuin · 2 pointsr/keyboards

Yep, old school Microsoft Natural Keyboard. That generation came in three flavors - The Natural Keyboard, the Natural Keyboard Pro, and the Natural Keyboard Elite. The only difference between the models was that the one you've got is like the base model. The Pro added a row of media keys above the function keys as well as a passive two-port USB hub in the back. The Elite model had no media keys and squashed the mid-block of keys to a two-column, three-row, configuration in order to save an inch or two of space.

The current iteration of this keyboard is the Microsoft Surface Ergonomic Keyboard. You can still find the Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Keyboard and Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 pretty easily. The newer / flatter keyboards have gone to a chiclet / scissor switch / laptop style key, while the 4000 and older are the more classic stem-based rubber domes.

u/vaguelyeastward · 2 pointsr/ftm

Congrats! At least 90% of my job involves typing, so I got a split keyboard for my first few weeks back at work. It took about 3 months to be able to fully rotate my palm flat. It also took almost 3 months for my split-thickness graft site on my leg to heal, but most people I've heard don't have nearly as much trouble with it.

My advice is that if something seems "off" then tell your team ASAP. I've had infections at 2 stages that would've been so much worse if I hadn't pushed to see my surgeon. You know your body best - you don't want to be so paranoid you stress yourself out, but it's good to be careful.

Edit: here's the keyboard I got.

u/Zacharuni · 2 pointsr/IWantToLearn

Like this. I type for 10+ hours a day and using a tiny mechanical keyboard was causing horrible wrist pain, I bought one of these and never looked back. There's more expensive options to get those sweet mechanical keys back, one day.

u/RIP_CORD · 2 pointsr/RSI

No worries! I've been dealing with this for 2 years now, I have not been evaluated recently so I'm not sure where I stand with healing, but my pain is minimal (2/10 most days, 5/10 after a day that I do not stretch). The thing to keep in mind with all of this is that RSI is unique to each person, depending on their situation and their body. Two people can be under the exact same strain and one be perfectly fine while the other develops RSI. So the main thing you need to do is evaluate everything you do with your hands, find the things that cause strain then find a way to minimize that activity or change it so that you are no longer under strain. This could be anything from ergonomic hardware, to reducing the number of times you hit ctrl+s, to less time on your phone or less time holding a book; everyone is different. It is unique to you and you will need to invest time in reducing strain.

For stretching https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdD7CgN5FGg I do 60 seconds per stretch. I've adapted them over time to target the muscles that hurt the most for me. Take time and find stretches that target the muscles that ache. Be gentle but persistent. Keep in mind that often an ache in your wrist can be from a tight muscle further up in your forearm.

For massage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwySYtmtQxg Again I have adapted this. The guy in this video is somewhat aggressive, and I don't use lube either. The method of using one forearm to massage the other (top to bottom, all sides) works great for me. Find the muscles that ache and spend extra time massaging them, gently but firmly. Don't be rough, but don't shy away from the sore areas.

It is very important to take breaks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiRC80FJbHU Constant strain is never good. If you're typing for long periods, take a break.

My mouse https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Advanced-Wireless-Trackball-Windows/dp/B0753P1GTS

Edit: keep in mind, this is not a one-day solution, this will take days to weeks and will be an ongoing battle. Be diligent!

u/MeweldeMoore · 2 pointsr/slashdiablo

I use a combination of different ergonomic mice, I switch between this joystick style mouse and an Evoluent VerticalMouse on my right hand, and at work I use a left-handed vertical mouse. For keyboards I use the Microsoft Sculpt at work and a corsair K65 with cherry mx red mechanical buttons at home. I also wear copper compression gloves which helps ease the pain after.

The thing I wish I had done earlier was just to address it all a lot sooner. It's easier to prevent than to treat. You could probably invest $200 and prevent long term pain. Also try using your weak hand for mousing at work so the load is split evenly. It takes time but you do eventually get good at it.

u/thebrassthief · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

I kinda know what you mean about Browns. I tried them at a store and they just don't sit right with me, but I think (for me) it's more because they felt kinda...lame? I started using Blues on a Das and then tried Blacks for a white and tactiles just felt like an uncomfortable middle ground. That's all opinion though, and why recommending switches can be hard.

I have a little spiel about Topre I like to throw out every time someone asks about them...
>Topre switches don't really compare to a Cherry MX switch. Some people will say they're like Cherry MX Browns or Blues but that kind of comparison doesn't really do it justice. It's really a unique switch. If you're using a tactile Cherry switch, all of them have their tactile point around the middle of the key press. Topre have them at the top of the key press and once you pass that point it's smooth as silk all the way to the bottom. It's also a fairly quiet switch. Cherry MX switches tend to me fairly loud if you're bottoming them out and with the way they're designed you're not really suppose to. Topre switches bottom out with a soft "thock" noise, and they can be a little difficult to NOT bottom out. Unlike a rubber dome or even Cherry MX board, bottoming out a Topre switch is fairly soft if you're typing "properly" (not jamming on the keys very hard). They even make a Type S "silent" switch which makes bottoming out Topre's even quieter.

If that sounds appealing then you might actually like Topre. Originally I didn't think you would because you weren't too keen on Browns. On the HHKB...I dunno if I would go that big immediately. I like my HHKB, but I do think people revere the thing a little too much. The Type Heaven is a pretty easy way to see if you're actually going to like the switch or not, and if you don't then you're not stuck with pricey board. Topre is only going to get cheaper to try in the future, but the Type Heaven is easily the best way to try it out right now. I dunno who you were trying to buy it from, but Elite Keyboards sells it through Amazon. Probably the easiest way to buy it.

Black keycaps are a love/hate thing. I have blanks on my HHKB but I have lettering on my 104UB-DK, mostly because I doubt I could find replacement caps anyway. And they're expensive, being PBT and all.

I dunno either. I love my fullsize keyboards. There was a survey recently that had more people sing fullsize than TKL anyway so I guess it's just loud advocates. I do keep my keyboard and mouse on the same desk though.

If you wanna try Topre, I would jump on the Type Heaven over the HHKB. If you wanna try Greens, I would check out the WASD. If all else fails, you might just have to go with the Unicomp.

u/EMCoupling · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

$200? It's on Amazon for $164. I would suggest selling for at most $150, since you don't have that extra security of buying it directly from the retailer.

You can get the cheapest Topre, the Type Heaven, for right about $150 on Amazon. It would be full-size though. They don't make a cheap TKL here. The nearest is Novatouch and you already got one.

Hello, guys. New to the mechanical keyboard scene and looking help with deciding on which I should get first among the four that interest me the most!

  1. Topre Heaven

  2. Topre Realforce

  3. Das Keyboard

  4. Unicomp Model M

This keyboard will be mainly used in an office setting so it would help if the keyboard I get won't be too loud.

I'm leaning a lot more on the Topre Heaven keyboard but I've done some research and it looks like PBT keycaps make a lot of difference that the Heaven doesn't have but the Realforce does.

The realforce I linked is the style that captured my eyes the most but I couldn't find more info on this specific type.

The Das keyboard is also a strong competitor since I've always wanted one and at a lower price point, it is very tempting. Aesthetics wise, I do think that the topre realforce one looks much sexier.

The Model M I believe would be the noisiest one in this bunch. If anyone has any feedback on this that would be great.

And that's it! Any help would be appreciated!

I agree! I wouldn’t be able to type on it with that position either. I see two options. One is a portable keyboard and the other is a portable display. A keyboard such as this comes to mind:

Lenovo ThinkPad Compact USB Keyboard with TrackPoint - US English https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F3U4TQS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_NRuvDbX5FH1VM

Or a portable monitor:

The idea being that maybe you can keep the laptop on a flat table to type but use the extra monitor set at a higher position such as on your laptop stand. Plus you would have dual monitors.

u/GSlayerBrian · 2 pointsr/thinkpad
u/briatx · 2 pointsr/Trackballs

You might consider a trackpoint or trackpad.

The trackpoint in particular requires very little movement from the fingers.

u/thekeffa · 2 pointsr/Trackballs

Just to give you a heads up, consider a pointing stick. Also known as a nipple mouse, it looks like a little rubber nipple you put a finger on. It requires barely any movement (And I mean absolutely tiny amounts of movement, most people would not even be able to tell your finger or thumb was moving) and is quite accurate.

Thinkpads are famous for having one in the middle of their keyboards. Indeed, Lenovo do standalone keyboards with them for desktop PC's as well. Here is an Amazon UK link to one, it is what appears to be a tiny red button in the middle of the keyboard.

There are also medical devices that you can get that work in the exact same way, but probably a lot pricier.

Don't get ducky. It's over priced because pro fortnite players use it. I recommend the ap2 because it's like 90 bucks on Amazon and it has great RGB, nice software, high quality build, and comes in kailh switches which, IMO are cheaper, better Cherry's. Ap2 is real nice. If you want to delve deeper into the neverending abyss of mechanical keebs then go on to kbdfans fans(after doing some switch research) and get a tada 68. They come in like 50 different switches.

You could buy this and then some switches and keycaps. All you have to do is pop in the switches. It's plug and play.

I use Gaterons for rhythm games, which is far more intensive use than will ever be encountered normally. Reliability isn't an issue. I would honestly recommend buying a GK61 in white from here and adding switches and the caps you were already planning on buying. The hotswap functionality gives you more flexibility with switches, and you don't pay for caps you won't use.

u/KingKai7989 · 2 pointsr/keyboards

Ok heres my recommendation, I dont know of any keyboard that come with royal switches, so I would buy this keyboard for about $50 then you have to find royal heavy switches, I was going to recommend novel keys but it looks like they are out of royal switches, I have also seen them on KBDfans but they have been having counterfeiting issues lately so buy at your own risk, I have also seen them on alliexpress but they may be as reliable as KBDfans. If you are able to find the switches it should be under your $100 budget.

Both have metal plates with plastic cases. Most mechanical keyboards do unless you go custom. I would say that the quality is about the same.

I am assuming you are going with blue switches? Most blue knockoff switches feel about the same. They are likely Outemu Blue switches, but it can be some obscure blue switches. Whatever it may be, they won't feel that different from Outemu Blues, which feel pretty decent for a knockoff switch in my opinion. If you get Gateron, consider yourself lucky since they are smoother than any other switch brands.

The RK61 is not hotswappable if I recall correctly.

If you want hot swappability, you should look into the GK61/iGK61. They are not that much more expensive than the ones you listed and they offer hot swappability, USB-C, and RGB backlighting.

If your looking for a budget friendly keyboard that has keyboard switches with a tactile bump and little sound I’d go with the phantom keyboard in the Outemu brown switches option. My friend has this keyboard and he says it has a solid feel and customizable rgb lighting that can be changed with key commands. Not only that but it is TKL so you save desk space when compared to a full sized keyboard.

Not gonna say you won't find them, but all these cheap ET boards have blue switches from Outemu or SwitchMaster.

Most affordable board I've seen is the MagicForce/Qisan TKL with Gateron browns (looks like it's not currently on Amazon), which you want over Cherry MX browns. There's also the TecWare Phantom TKL (RGB) which comes with Outemu browns.

Hello, I am trying to find a good TKL keyboard with hot-swappable switches (for Chery MX style). I've found things like the Logitech g pro x keyboard. But, I don't care for the HIGH price tag. I also have looked at some different cheap boards on amazon like E-Element Z-77( https://www.amazon.com/HUO-JI-Mechanical-Multicolor-Anti-Ghosting/dp/B01EMI35H0/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=hot%2Bswappable%2Bkeyboard%2Bcherry&qid=1574713952&sr=8-8&th=1 ) and the Tecware Phantom 87 ( https://www.amazon.com/Tecware-Phantom-Mechanical-Keyboard-Outemu/dp/B079HTZQYV/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=hot%2Bswappable%2Bkeyboard%2Bcherry&qid=1574716807&sr=8-1&th=1 ) but, the E-Element Z-77 looks ugly and the Tecware Phantom 87 does not work with Mx style switches. I have also seen other boards that look like they might work but they have none customizable RGB Barff look to them.

Does anyone know of a good TKL board that has hot-swappable switches, a good backlight, and is under $60? Or am I asking for something that does not exist?

u/NyZility · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I’ve been using the Tecware Phantom for 4 months now . It’s ten keyless , has an option of outemu reds , blues or browns ( reds have a nice feel and are quiet so that’s what I went with ) and for it’s price it’s really good quality and sturdy with nice stock key caps . Here’s the link where I bought it . Only $46. Also has one of the best softwares I have seen for a cheap keyboard . Has many different modes and per key lighting so every key can be changed https://www.amazon.com/Tecware-Phantom-Mechanical-Keyboard-Outemu/dp/B079HTZQYV/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?keywords=tecware+phantom&qid=1573458410&sprefix=tecwa&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFYS01QSUZKTEgyQlAmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTAxOTQ0MzcyMjJQNkxDRURZU1MwJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA2MjY1MTNXU01NQzVHWjlaSTkmd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

Just get him a new keyboard. You can't go wrong with Brown, brown is all around. Or buy all three, and return what you don't want.

get him an MX Red (linear) keyboard for gaming, and a MX Brown(tactile) or Blue(clickly) for work/typing

Outemo makes copies of Cherry MX Keys, and they are cheap and great.

TECWARE Brown (Tactile, in between linear and clicky, has a little bump) perfect inbetween gaming and work, best all around (unfortunately they are out of the 10 Key version, still works good)

TECWARE RED (Linear, for gaming, no click)

TECWARE BLUE (Full clicky, for work, typing, not for gaming [even though they say gaming])

I can vouch for the AUKEY KM-G9 and the Tecware Phantom. The KM-G9 is a very basic keyboard and also very loud due to the Outemu blues, but it feels great to type on. The Phantom has programmable RGB lights and a variety of switches. I have one with browns and couldn't be happier.

u/Yetanothaone · 1 pointr/osugame

The gk61 you linked is JUST pcb, without a case. Gateron reds are louder than silvers. Gateron clears are also a really good option, because they're incredibly lightweight and still linear. Also quiet.

Edit: Get this. Its a gk61 with a case. So you should be able to just plop in your switches. This is a link to a bunch of cheap gateron switches. Get the 61 pack, it's exactly how many you need for your keyboard. In case you're wondering why I keep recommending gaterons, it's because they're just as good at least. For a long while cherry was the best, and the cherry clones were just bad. Nowadays the cherry clones (gateron, kalih and all the others) are equal to or better than cherry. Also gaterons are more smooth than cherry in my experience.

Keycaps are easy. Basically every single keycap set will fit with cherry stem switches. So you don't have to worry about that. All you need is layout, which you can verify with your eyes. With 60%s you'll often have extra keycaps laying about afterwards, but it isn't a big deal. This is that a finishes gk61 should look like, layout wise. Try and get doubleshot pbt keycaps. ABS keycaps are bad and you don't want printed legends because they fade overtime. This goal also isn't hard or expensive.

u/ericrosenfield · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Note that that GK61 is hot swappable only with other Gateron optical switches not with most switches. Gateron optical switches aren't bad though. If you want the one with regular hot swap, it's here: https://www.amazon.ca/Independent-Mechanical-Keyboard-Plastic-Aluminum/dp/B07JVMBMNK/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=gk61&qid=1565056621&s=gateway&sr=8-4 but it looks like you have to buy the switches and caps separately for that one.

Also I have a GK61 and the software is terrible and the stabilizers are rattly. But for the price, it's still not bad at all (and you can get new stabs for pretty cheap). The GMMK, Anne Pro 2, Ducky One 2 Mini etc are all better boards, but they're much more expensive (especially in Canada for some reason).

u/Chromatic-Mastodon · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Oh definitely.

This is the exact kit I got. It’s hotswappable, so if you went with this, all you would need to buy are some switches to pop in and keycaps.

The plastic case straight out of the box is really loud and hollow sounding, but some shelf liner from Home Depot or Lowe’s can cut that way down.

u/Pr0gressiv · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Hey guys I originally wanted to get a ducky one 2 mini but found the GH60 GK61 just now and now want to know where I should buy the switches and keycaps. I think i want red switches but I would love to get some custom keycaps are there any good sites/artist/products I can get?

And do you know any cheap 60% custom keyboard case that has "feet" so I can elevate the keyboard as I wish?

u/D2MoonUnit · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Do you mean this keyboard?

It looks like it uses optical switches, based on the manufacturer comments back in May.

Another option might be the GMMK, which takes any MX switch (non-optical) or the GK61, which is the same price as the one you mentioned.

u/lxkhn · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Looks like the GK64 but with the standard 60% layout seems fine to me, you can also order it through amazon https://www.amazon.com/Independent-Mechanical-Keyboard-Plastic-Aluminum/dp/B07JVMBMNK

u/Ripkon · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Yes the GK61 is a great board for the price and its hotswappable (no soldering). Takes about 10 min to change the switches if you upgrade or dont like you current switches. RBG is great on it also, but the software isnt the best. https://www.amazon.com/Independent-Mechanical-Keyboard-Plastic-Aluminum/dp/B07JVMBMNK?ref_=bl_dp_s_web_17919265011

The cheapest thing I could find was this: https://www.amazon.com/HK-Gaming-Mechanical-Illuminated-Programmable/dp/B07PT9NRRY/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=hotswap+keyboard&qid=1571696397&sr=8-3

However, even that keyboard is over your budget, and it only accepts optical switches which severely limits your switch choice.

If you're willing to go up $54, you can look at this: https://www.amazon.com/Independent-Mechanical-Keyboard-Plastic-Aluminum/dp/B07JVMBMNK/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=hotswap+keyboard&qid=1571696445&sr=8-2

That one isn't limited to optical switches, but doesn't come with any, so you have to find your own.

I don't have much experience with the GK brand pcbs, but from what I've heard the are decent, but the software is hot garbage. So stay away from those if you want to be able to program the board.

You're unfortunately going to have to increase your budget if you want something hotswappable that has decent software. My recommendation for a cheap hotswap board on amazon is the gmmk https://www.amazon.com/Glorious-Modular-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard/dp/B01D8YNJH0/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=gmmk&qid=1571696625&sr=8-1

GH60 GK61 RGB Hot Swap... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JVMBMNK?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

u/batter-up · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

GH60 (GK61) vs GMMK Compact, just buying the base. What are the main differences, besides software? Looking for a hot-swappable base and to program/hotkey the bottom right buttons as arrows, and I believe I've found the full switch-compat version of the GK61 here, rather than the optical version that seems to be every other listing.

Looks like the GK61 is USB-C, and supports 3 or 5-pin switches, and has a light board. But, FN cannot be moved (bad for arrows).

While the GMMK is Mirco-USB and only supports 3-pin, or 5-pin if you remove the legs, and a dark board with a metallic trim. The FN key can be swapped with Caps Lock, which should allow me to freely map the arrows to the bottom right 4 keys. I've heard the FN layer can't be adjusted, but I don't think I mind that too much.

---

They're roughly the same price, but I don't really see much else different - is it basically going to be if I value better arrow-key usage/mapping (GMMK) vs wider aftermarket compatibility with USB-C, and slightly wider switch support (GK61)?. I'm leaning towards GMMK for the functionality.

u/vaultwanderer94 · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

There's the GK61, no underglow, but it does have in switch rgb. Also, the GMMK 60% is the same, in switch but no underglow. I personally don't know of any that have both, in switch and underglow rgb, and hot swap. Those both have the standard layout that you're looking for, though, keep in mind, the GMMK is not compatible with other cases, but the GK61 is.

Edit: Whatever you end up getting, also get some dielectric grease, and follow Nathan Kim's stabilizer lubing guide, you'll thank me when you type on it rattle free haha.

HyperX doesn't make white pudding keycaps, they make black pudding keycaps and translucent white shine through keycaps but not white keycaps with translucent sides.

I'm almost certain that you are referring to the following hyperx keycaps:

The harmony smart keyboard or the mini controller? The smart keyboard is like a standard keyboard with a built in touchpad on the right side. And the mini controller is like a game pad size keyboard. I dont have the harmony hub at all, so would I be able to still use it?
The big thing for me is being able to switch easily from device to device, with either a switch or a button. Also, a smaller form factor would be nice.
The Logitech Multi-Device keyboards are nice because they have that device switching capabilities. Its the K480 and K780 bluetooth keyboards.

u/soawesomejohn · 1 pointr/AndroidQuestions

The note4 is expensive, but very feature packed and worth it for many people (like me).

The screen is rather awesome, so if you take a bluetooth keyboard with you (folding), you should be able to type away.

Using the stylus is like writing with a pen, but it is short/lightweight, so if you end up doing more than a new quick notes, you'll want something a bit larger like what Bamboo makes.

u/intr0spectivity · 1 pointr/ipad

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Maybe if you don't mind the iPad leaning further back because it's a few 0.something mm thinner.

Don't get a keyboard case. Get a dedicated slim keyboard that can pack away with a smart cover. You can get them combined for around $50 on Amazon if you search. All the first party accessories bet on the idea that people will spend a lot more than they should because the Apple brand is connected with the ideas of premium and high-end devices.

I would recommend [Anker's T320 slim keyboard] (http://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Ultra-Slim-Aluminum-Keyboard-Windows/dp/B00BKW2410) with any of the slim cover cases on Amazon.

You'll pay more for more features. An example would be the Logitech K480 keyboard that allows you to connect with three devices simultaneously (phone, iPad and laptop).

I like that it has the slot to prop up the tablet, and you can use it with 2 other Bluetooth devices. I have a Nexus6, and it's cool to use this keyboard with the phone as well as with my tablet.

I've had this little rechargeable keyboard for several months with no issue: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VRCKK1Y/ But it's main draw for me is that it's portable and folds up. Folding is probably a drawback if you don't actually want that feature.

Then I have this thing which does take AAA batteries, but it's not mini: tps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MUTWLW4/
I really like it, though. Can simultaneously pair with my phone, MiBox, and tablet just by rotating the little switch. But not really remote-sized if that's what you're going for.

OP here, alternatively, I have figured out two different, pretty retarded, janky solution but are very easy and should work.

------

Extra Retarded Solution #1:

  1. Buy TWO of these

    https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Illuminated-Living-Room-Keyboard-Touchpad/dp/B00ZOPVSKW/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=wireless+keyboard+touchpad&qid=1555561503&s=gateway&sr=8-4

  2. Heavily duct tape them at the bottom and in between, maybe even hot glue them in between as well

  3. Then connect both of them to the computer and then use the left keyboard's touchpad + mute/volume keys with the left hand and the keys on the right hand.

    -----

    Somewhat Less Retarded Solution #2:

Alternatively, if I can just find a good touchpad + wireless volume + wireless mute button, I can duct tape them + maybe hotglue them onto the left of my existing keyboard.

    ------

However, I'm still interested in your thoughts on the original post as well, which would produce the smallest final object compared to these two new solutions

Can't speak highly enough of Logitech K380

https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-K380-Multi-Device-Bluetooth-Keyboard/dp/B0148NPH9I

You might need to add Bluetooth dongle to the pi2 I can't remember. But I use this kb for as much as I can now (for my desktop and tablet too). It's compact, great to type on, and you can pair it with three devices and then switch easily at touch of a button.

u/Tired8281 · 1 pointr/kodi

I just got me one of these. It's Bluetooth, so no dongles required. It connects to up to three devices at once, so I have it connected to my regular desktop at home, as well as my Shield TV for Kodi, and even my laptop if I need it in a pinch. I can switch between devices at a single touch, and the switching is really fast and easy. The keyboard itself is really tiny, so I don't need a lot of space for it, and it's comfy to type on. When I bought it, it was on for $25, which is cheaper than even the shitty bluetooth keyboards on Amazon...it's at $30 now, not as good a deal but still OK. No touch tho.

u/luckharris · 1 pointr/buildapc

Trying to figure out a cheap/elegant solution to share monitor, mouse, and keyboard between my Macbook Pro and Desktop PC. Torn between finding an inexpensive KVM (any recommendations greatly appreciated), and a Bluetooth solution since my monitor has two HDMI ports. For Bluetooth solution, I was looking at the Logitech K380, and hunting for a cheaper mouse than the Logitech Triathlon as a multi-device mouse. But if anybody can recommend either an inexpensive KVM or an inexpensive multi-device bluetooth mouse I'd appreciate it. Somebody recommended Synergy, and while it seems awesome, I need to share a display.

P.S. Sorry for redundant questions; figured I might as well see what the best solution is.

Hey man, so I have macOs mojave 10.14.6 up and running on my NUC8i7BEH (Bios 74). Installed on a 1TB Samsung 860 EVO SSD.

So I was pondering on the following 2 options:

- get BT/Wifi up and running as you described above so I can use my Apple Magic Mouse 2 & Magic Keyboard 2 wireless and all the macOs whistle and bells.

OR

- redo the full installation on my original 1TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus m.2 SSD which is blazing fast compared to the 860EVO (the difference is like 500mb/s vs 3000mb/s....). When I go for this I could supplement with BT dongle to use my apple keyboard and mouse wirelessly (does it work with 3rd party BT dongles?) or a nice keyboard like the logitech K380 and a BT mouse.

If I would go for the 2nd option, I'm off course still without Wi-Fi and I'm wondering what macOs features I will not be able to use?

They are Kailh and you will read mixed reports of quality differences between the two. Alternatively you can also try Outemu Blues and have RGB at $10 cheaper. Do they have to be nice keyboards? You can cheap ones like this. You can probably get them for even cheaper if you buy them in bulk directly from China on Alibaba, can probably even get them to custom brand it for you. They have swappable switches.

Your keyboards are going to get abused. If a button stops working, you can just easily swap the switch. If it dies altogether, it's cheap to replace.

Does not ship internationally. Alternatives?

Looking to buy my first ever mechanical keyboard. I want it to not break after just a few months (this one had replaceable switches), and have a relatively simple design. RGB is a plus

u/ManImCool1 · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I just got this new Z-88 E-Elements RGB waterproof keyboard, to replace my 2015ish E-Elements RGB (not waterproof, that's how it finally died). I plugged it into my Windows 10 desktop and I only got the windows noise indicating something was just plugged in, and that's it. Keyboard not responsive, no lights. I went into device manager, under "Gaming KB" I updated manually by selecting the USB Input Device. That made all the lights start working, but still no keys are working. Tried USB 2.0 and 3.0. When I update and manually select USB Input Device, it adds several more Unknown Devices. If I try and update and manually select for those as well, it just adds more Unknown Devices. I do NOT see "BodeVibe Vibration Data Processing System," nor "ND-Tech USB Adapter" per other fix-it threads I've found. Plugging it into my laptop, also Win 10, and it works instantly, no driver updates necessary. Help!

I bought this keyboard earlier this week and was wondering what do I need to know about modifying switches before I start. I love the clicking of the blue switches, but for the sake of my household I was thinking about switching a couple to red.

To my understanding (with this keyboard), I should just be able to pull out the blue switches I want to swap and replace them with reds without any soldering needed. Would I also be able to use blue and red switches concurrently?

You could try the Tomoko or Mechanical Eagle Z-77 off of amazon. Have a quick search on this subreddit for reviews to see if they are any good. From what I read they seem like decent quality considering the price anyways, but have a read for yourself to see if it's what you want. I have no experience personally with either so I can't really comment, except for the price being so low obviously.

This and this are both very decent affordable keyboards. If you want to spend up to 80 quid I'm sure you'll have no problem doing it but if you want to save some cash you can invest in a much cheaper board.

Its quite hard to explain, but the more you get into mech keyboards the more you'll understand that the community doesn't really have any specific love of Keyboard Brands. A bit like with building computers you don't think of them as 'Acer' or 'Dell' but as all the individual parts that make them up.

When I look at a keyboard I'm not looking at the brand on the front but what the switches are or what controller is being used.

FYI both these keyboards use Outemu or Kailh switches :)

u/inluvwithaghost · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

What would be a good, bare-bones keyboard to buy for everyday/moderate gaming use? I truthfully don't really care about using knockoff switches or rgb lighting- i just want something that isn't made out of paper and sounds quiet when i type. I'm in online skype and discord calls a lot and both my Cherry MX blue and Outemu blue switches are literally unbearable for my friends to listen to since I'm a heavy/fast typer, Here's generally what I'm looking for:

  • tenkeyless (or full size, generally whichever is cheapest)
  • generic american/ANSI layout
  • no RGB lighting (for sake of price)
  • switches that don't sound like firecrackers every time i type (probably cherry mx red or a knock-off version, i've heard mx browns are cool)
  • preferably black, but i really don't mind either way
  • literally the lowest budget you can manage, at least under 100 USD cause poor :(

this is the keyboard I'm currently using, so you can get a pretty good idea of what I'm looking for. i'm super desperate for something that sounds quiet- I've tried switching back to a membrane/rubber dome keyboard and typing on it feels horrible.

That hurts to hear D:

True. I mean she has a makeup obsession, but in her defense, she's the manager of a large chain makeup store lol. Maybe one day she will understand :P

I will! I'm planning on doing the holtite mod, Frosty Flake mod, wrapping the plate in red carbon fiber wrap, aftermarket caps, and possibly an aftermarket cable for it as well. Maybe further down the line, I'll get an aluminum case for it too, but that's super expensive compared to the mods I already have planned for it.

Sooo last night this keyboard had a pricing error and came out to $9 after the promo code applied to it. I ordered 3 of them just because they were cheap. Assuming they ship out, I really want to get some MX Clears and stick that on one of the boards to hold me over until I can mod my Quickfire Stealth (this has hotswap compatibility built into the board already). Really hoping that it goes through, but I will know by the end of the day today since I was eligible for free 1 day shipping.

u/CptHands · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Amazon usually has some pretty cheap mechanicals. They are usually some bizarre brand from Korea or Thailand, but almost always have positive reviews.

Here is one.

u/coolsheep769 · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Coworker convinced me to switch, but for the time being I'm quite poor (eventually I plan to get nice custom keycaps and such). I'm feeling a tenkeyless 60% because I don't like having buttons I don't use. Here are a few of the budget keyboards I've been looking at:

Velocifire compact tiny itty bitty mini thing for $30: I'd prefer reds/blacks to browns, but the noise still shouldn't be too bad from this.

E-Element Z-88 for $45: The RGB looks a little ugly, but maybe it's just the pictures. Excited about the reds, but ideally I'd like it cheaper (I know this is already dirt cheap, but maybe cheaper is possible?). Also, would definitely replace the caps.

Tecware Phantom for $45: I can't tell for sure whether this comes with outemu reds or blues, but if reds, yay. This also seems to be easier than usual to customize later.

I'm not sure what brands are and are not trustworthy in the mechanical world, or if there's anything about any of these that I overlooked.

u/BigPekkingDuck · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Looking for a new keyboard my budget is around $100. I do not know much about keyboards other than what I read in the wiki. Currently I have my eyes on three keyboards that are pretty cheap and look pretty decent. If you have a much better alternative that blows everything else away for its price point let me know. However please explain why the keyboard is better than the ones listed for its price increase/decrease as I want to take it as a learning experience for future purchases & get the best bang for my buck. Somethings I am looking for in this keyboard is that it is a

-Mechanical Keyboard

-Wired

-Has separate function keys

-Durable / Can survive a few years of button smashing in world of warcraft

-Heard something about red & brown buttons being more satisfying for gaming so lets go with that

Extras (not that important)

I do not really care for lights on my keyboard as I would probably turn them off anyways, I like white keyboards but can live without it being white, and I like it when each key is raised and I can see underneath.

Hi! I'm looking to buy my first mechanical keyboard and have been doing a lot of research on this sub. I think I'd like a 75% with cherry brown switches and PBT keys. I love the look of the Vortex Race 3 but I don't really like the keys to the right of enter (I use Mac which doesn't make use of those). I love how the Velocfire TKL78 doesn't have those keys, but I'm not into the whole look of black keyboards or backlit keyboards. Any suggestions for a classic tan kb that's smaller but still has function keys for volume control/media playback?

Could care less about the gamer vibe or the lights. The board just felt really nice in terms of spacing and key "depth"? Idk if that's the right word. On my current board the keys feel too tall, and the three rows i.e. the qwerty asdf and zxcv seem too far apart (like vertically), each row is higher than the next by too much not sure the actual term for that.

u/acasto · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I just grabbed them off Amazon (here) on impulse to try them out as I was getting tired of the Deck font. They seem quite decent for $30. The default LED brightness on the Hassium is a bit much and shines through the white keys pretty bad, but I just modified my default LED script to tone things down a bit.

u/Squidz44 · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

What keycaps can I get for E-Element Z-88 RGB Compact 81 Keys to be perfect fit? I want looks like this or this or this. I'm worried about the right shift key...

u/Urano_Metria · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I just bought a CTRL last weekend, but I hate the color of the keys that it came with. There are seemingly endless options for ultra-high quality keycap sets that would work well, but none that are backlit.

I really want some keycaps that take full advantage of the CTRL's RGB. More Specifically, I'm looking for some white keycaps. That probably makes it even harder. I bought these to try them out, and the quality was so bad I seriously debated if it would be worth the satisfaction of crushing them with a hammer rather than returning for a refund.

The feel of the keys is fine, and they are nice and thick. Problem is, over 20% of the keys have rough molding marks on the lower edges and bottom. Every key larger than 1x1 has very minor warping, with the space bar particularly horrible. Just unacceptable quality to be using, especially on a $200 board.

I don't think what I am looking for is particularly or unreasonably outlandish. Just white, backlit keycaps that aren't made out of pure Chinesium or cheap, thin ABS. No cringe-inducing gam3r font. I would prefer if the number row was horizontal to allow for the backlighting to be even. Under $100 for the set. That's it.

---
I know GMMK has some, but I don't really have any idea on the quality. They're ABS, but I don't really know how thick. From the pictures, they give off the vibe of stock OEM keycaps that you would instantly replace anyway.

---

I've seen the Vortex PBT+POM 104 key set recommended in the past, but it's out of stock on MK.com and Amazon. I don't really like that the number row is vertical either, since the numbers won't be illuminated as much as the symbols would be.

---

I know Vortex has a newer 126 key set, but I don't think it matters. People have said it's lower quality than the older PBT+POM set, and it's OOS every anyway as far as I can tell.

---

I have seen the Capturer Backlit Doubleshot PBT Keycap Set recommended on this subreddit a few times. It seems to have good reviews. Although I wouldn't be excited about waiting three weeks to see what mystery Chinese keycaps show up, I will if the quality is actually there.

---

This 109 key set from Amazon seller "Happy Balls" appears to be the same keycap set as the Capturer on AliExpress, which makes me concerned about both sets. The light bleed through the caps looks outright poisonous from the reviewer submitted images, and while the seller promises to replace any keycaps that arrive damaged or defective, the keycaps get pretty mixed reviews. The seller also has an 80% rating, and from experience anything under 98% means the seller basically gives you the middle finger and blows you off.

---

The most promising set I have found are the IKBC PBT Backlit Doubleshot 108 key set on Amazon. They get rave reviews on Amazon, domestic shipping, and they look pretty good illuminated from the user review images. The price seems to good to be true though, so I am a bit skeptical. I would love to know if anyone has any experience with this set.

---

Overall I can say it's more than a little disappointing. With today's ubiquity of RGB mechanical keyboards, SMD LEDs on PCBs, and backlight compatible switches, I would think we would have some higher end options for backlit keys by now. I would more than appreciate a little help finding a good set.

Hi all, I want to purchase a mechanical keyboard soon but I'm not sure which to pick. Info:

Usage: Exclusively programming, research, and typing (no gaming)
Switch preference: Cherry MX Blue
Style: Full (but open to tenkeyless/75%)
Budget: $75 - 150
Layout: QWERTY, standard key placement (no malformed return key)
OS: Ubuntu/Fedora/Debian
Brand preference: None
Country: USA

I bought a mechanical key switch tester on Amazon with 6 keys and decided I like blue (and green - which seem more rare) switches. I don't care about the amount of noise produced. I have read about issues with certain mechanical keyboards on Linux (like several Corsair models), so I'm trying to stay clear of those. I'm considering several which are linked below.

I'm really impressed by the reviews (and the price) of the Pictek 104 ($60, 4.9 out of 5), but the switches are not Cherry - they are made by Gaote. I'm also concerned that this is called a 'gaming' keyboard (despite having blue switches??) given my needs.

The Das Model S ($140) looks like a great keyboard and I've heard good things about this brand, however, many of the reviews for other Das keyboards were really not great. I'm willing to pay $150 for a solid keyboard, but in my mind, a keyboard for that price should be perfect. A lower price is obviously better, but at the same time, I don't want to pay $60 for a keyboard and then have to upgrade 6 months later. The HAVIT ($82) is a somewhat of a compromise between the Pictek and the Das.

I'm willing to give up the numpad and go tenkeyless if others have strong recommendations here.

I would love a das keyboard. It is such a shame the blackwidow is the only cheap mechanical keyboard you can easily get in the UK. The das ultimate is my dream keyboard but just for a comparison here is the cost:

Amazon.com: $129 ~ £79
Amazon.co.uk: £117 ~ $192

I plan on saving up but hopefully mechanicals will become more demanded in the UK, offering more options to get Filco's and the das for less than £100.

u/-_-_-__--__-- · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I'm completely new to mechanical keyboards and looking to get my first one.

I really don't know which kind of switch I want, but I've heard that Cherry MX Blues are the best for noobs. I'm sort of worried about the sound though, maybe I will end up with the browns.

Here are a few keyboards I've been looking at:

  • Rosewill RK9000 - looks like the best value in terms of price, but right now I can only get it with blues.
  • Unicomp SpaceSaver M - Mac buckling spring keyboard. A buckling spring keyboard looks good, but I don't know about the sound level or the build quality of this model.
  • CM Storm QuickFire Rapid - I think the TKL layout might take some getting used to but I can manage... overall it looks pretty good.
  • Das Keyboard Ultimate If I were to spend my money on looks this is what I would get. I would get this (Browns, silent model) but $150 is a lot compared to the other ones on this list.
  • Matias Tactile Pro - Another mac-y keyboard.
  • And if I am really spending money I would get something from WASD probably.

Since I use a Mac, I would rather have something with normal keycaps so I can switch Windows and Alt (and get this if the windows keys have that stupid circular recess on them).

Any ideas on what to get? Is the Das Keyboard worth the money (it seems like the only one I can get with browns)? Should I get something else entirely?
u/ozebb · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

This is my keyboard of choice. You don't have to go blank, but I highly recommend a mechanical keyboard. So clicky. So good.

u/Vaysym · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Are you for or against the compact Logitech G Pro? I was also looking at the Das Keyboard Model S

u/nudemanonbike · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Hmm,

The first keyboard I bought and the one I use the most is the Das Keyboard Model S Ultimate with Cherry MX Blues.. I use it daily, but I don't think it's my favorite anymore because I had to RMA it due to its USB controller failing and melting the board slightly. Other than that I love its blue switches and the fact that it made me learn how to touch type. It also cemented my love of blues because I love the clack noise. I've used browns and reds a bit and while I like them, the noise makes me happy inside.

If I were to buy something more in line with my tastes today, I'd probably go for a tenkeyless (aka no numpad, the TKL I was talking about in my first comment) board because my desk space is cramped compared to when I bought the das, and it makes me type at an askew angle that I'm sure isn't good for my spine or whatever. I'd also skip out on a backlit board, because I like to game in total darkness and don't like stuff glowing to distract me.

So, my favorite board would be something like a WASD 88 key with blues that I customize to be some color I like, and then a numpad off to the side so that I can still have one (I use it too much) without ruining my posture.

I have a project board, and old IBM Model F XT that a friend found in an old computer storage room that I plan on getting working on a modern PC and sprucing up by cleaning and painting it some obnoxious color. It won't be my favorite board to type on, I bet, but I'd love to pull it out for its sheer oddity.

u/ID-10T-ERROR · 1 pointr/AskReddit

I can use one of these and type near 200 wpm.

If you want to spend a bit more over your $100 budget, the Das Keyboard Model S Ultimate ($117) is a really good option. They're one of (if not the) best mechanical keyboard brands. Very reliable and they look pretty nice. If you want to spend a bit less, the CM Storm Quickfire Pro ($95 after rebate) is a great option. I'm actually typing this from a Quickfire Pro right now - had it for a few months and I love it.

Basic rundown of most readily available key switches from what I understand:

  • Blues and browns have feedback (audible click and bump in the blues and a tactile bump in the browns).

  • Blues are most likely the "button clicking" keyboards you're referring to. Blues are generally regarded as best for typing, but they can be okay for gaming too if you don't mind the noise.

  • Browns are what I use now, they provide the bump without the noise. They strike a good balance between gaming performance and typing performance.

  • Blacks and reds are both linear, no special tactile feedback. Both black and red switches have a smooth feel. The keys just press straight down and come back up, no bump or click in between. Blacks and reds are also the "best" gaming switches.

  • Only difference between blacks and reds are that blacks are a bit harder to press down. Well, not hard to press, just takes a bit more force. Blacks are good if you prefer a stiffer feel, compared to the lighter/mushier feel of the reds.

I'm not sure if you can buy it anymore, but it appears there's a USB version of it here: http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Enhanced-Black-Keyboard-SK-8115/dp/B00496FELQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1457031155&sr=1-2

It's definitely quiet enough to use in an open plan office, as that's where I am now.

The keyboard I use at home, which is even quieter, is this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VAGXWK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

It's fine, but I like the more traditional key feel of the first two - I like keys that have longer action compared to the modern chiclet-style keyboards, and the raised keys of the first two allow me to use the heel of my left hand to hit the ctrl-key. Since the third keyboard has flatter keys, I can't use the heel technique on Ctrl as easily.

I map alt to meta, so I can use the heel and my left thumb for all the emacs operations without taking my fingers off the home row positions.

I am looking at buying a new board, but I want to make sure that I am getting a good deal, but also getting quality. Usually when I buy a mechanical keyboard I just bought from the "gaming" brands, but I wanted to go with a different approach this time.

Here are the 2 keyboards I have been looking at getting:

u/CompLab-in-Basement · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards
u/ratsroloc · 1 pointr/keyboards

Honestly given the range of your budget it might be a better idea to save up a bit more for a Filco Majestouch TKL or a Leopold FC750R. Both boards seem to be really well received on this sub in terms of build quality, they aren't that much more than $100, and they come in a variety of switch types.

But if you're just looking for something as cheap as possible to replace your current board you might want to look into something like this. You could also look on /r/mechmarket to try to find a used Quickfire TK to replace the one you have.

u/contact_lens_linux · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife
  • ergodox if you liked the kinesis and want to build your own (not domed; it's a fun project and massdrop often sells kits)
  • hhkb
  • filco tkl this one still gives you arrow keys
  • cm storm cheapest of the bunch but a pretty solid keyboard

Others to check out are pokers and the other stuff elitekeyboards.com sells. With the exception of the hhkb, you'll need to decide on what sort of switches you want (Brown, Blue, etc.). My favorites are browns which give you pretty solid feedback without the click. Blues are very slightly stiffer and give you an audible click. You might consider ordering a sampler pack from somewhere that gives you 4 or 5 switches to try out.

/r/MechanicalKeyboards is a great place to look at as others pointed out

I mean, it really depends on your budget and what you like. I've personally never bought into the "gaming peripheral" fad - but some people swear by them so it's whatever you prefer. I use a Filco TKL and the thing is amazing for both gaming and just general typing without any of the unnecessary stuff. The only thing you may want that this keyboard (and similar models) don't have is backlighting which that is a feature I can completely understand. There are minimalist mechanical keyboards that do have backlighting though like the Vortex Race. There's a newer model out now I believe, but they're also solid keyboards. While the price might seem high, these are the type of keyboards that will easily last you 10 or 20 years if you take care of them so they do pay for themselves.

I don't see it specifically saying that it has bluetooth built in, which is unusual... So you might look to see if it actually does first. I see that it has a OTG cable, so any USB keyboard is fine. Bluetooth should show up in settings under Wireless & Networks. If you can turn it on it's probably there.

However if it does have bluetooth I own the Logitech Bluetooth Android keyboard and it's been a great little keyboard. The case turns to a stand for your tablet. The keys have decent throw for as thin as it is.

u/JDburn08 · 1 pointr/digitalnomad

I’ve got a Logitech tablet keyboard for android 3.0+ (no round keys!) that works a treat with both my iphone and my computer. Only criteria it doesn’t meet is that it’s not rechargeable but it doesn’t matter to me, since I a) I already carry AAA batteries for my dictaphone and b) it’s slightly more compact than average size is a perfect fit for my slightly more compact than average hands - read: it’s the only keyboard I’ve ever owned where I can reach the whole alphabet without needing to stretch.

I don’t have a recommendation for a stand, though; I just pile stuff up.

I won't be using it for taking notes, rather I will use it for typing graduate school assignments while on the bus/subway/train here in Korea. Yes, I think it is slightly ridiculous, but compared to a) writing things out on paper and typing them out later or b) trying to type something more than two sentences long on a touchscreen I think it is the smartest way to go.

This should do as the squashball in australia
as for the DIY clutch, it was a USB Pedal

the USB pedal looks a bit crappy, but it actually does the job, really well! you can also do some DIY of yourself to connect it to the DFGT pedal set and make it sideways so it matches position of the other pedals. Or maybe buy a metal pedal face, and then some type of stand/holder, attach that to the usb pedal, and stick on some plastic/metal base and add the metal pedal on top and that will make an actual pedal! but with short travel. You don't need RAM to run one or two applications. Honestly, a laptop with specs from 1998 would probably be fine. Or better, since it would keep you from having too many distractions open.

I got this recently and I really like it. https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Ergonomic-Keyboard-Business-5KV-00001/dp/B00CYX26BC

I went to an OT recently, and she approved this keyboard. Also, get a mouse that supports your hand not angling up from your wrist (I love my new rollerball mouse). Definitely go see an OT and learn more about how to mitigate the CTS. I'm a candidate for surgery, but I'm hoping a new office setup, and the steroid shots I had in my wrists, do the trick well enough so I can avoid surgery. Also, shots in your wrists may sound horrible, but they were honestly easier than the flu shot I'd had earlier that day. Just be prepared for a couple of Useless Hands days, because it takes a couple of days for the body to adjust (it'll feel like the CTS gets worse for 2-3 days, and then it will start disappearing). But, the effects of the shots are supposed to last up to 2-3 months. It's been 4-5 weeks since mine and I'm only vaguely aware of my wrists if I type a lot.

Also, working with Dragon helps. It's a bit of a slow ramp up, but when your hands are bad, all the "select [phrase]" and correction efforts are worth all the wacky mistakes it can make.

u/CondiMesmer · 1 pointr/thinkpad

Not really, reddit is just a circlejerk. The keyboards themselves are great, but after typing on the switches for so long, they get just get obnoxious. The switches are what I have a problem with. I'm really over the loud clicking, and I'm already on brown switches with o-rings and it's still incredibly loud.

The clickiness and tactileness factor really has worn off to me at this point and I could care less about it, I just want quiet and comfortable keys. I'm now looking towards something like the Microsoft Sculpt Keyboard for my next keyboard, but as you know, mechanical keyboards just never die.

u/treefrog221 · 1 pointr/keyboards

Have you tried the Microsoft Sculpt ($60 - I feel I've seen it for a bit cheaper than this) ? It is very similar, but wireless with a split space bar and very shallow keys that are easy to press. My big issue with it was it seemed to flex a bit when I typed, especially when I pressed buttons high on the keyboard. However, I type fairly hard sometimes. They are often on display at large electronics stores, so you should try it before you consider it.

I also found this and this.

I would also recommend you look at r/ErgoMechKeyboards/.

If you have money to burn, I would consider looking into two-piece split keyboards like the Kinesis Feestyle2. I feel like those might allow a more natural wrist position.

Yeah, I had an mx cherry keyboard, but my girlfriend couldn't stand the constant clicking... I've grown to really like the microsoft sculpt though.

u/notshawnvaughn · 1 pointr/editors

I used to get horrible carpal tunnel. Trackballs still forced my wrist flat, didn't change the situation. Next I tried using a wacom, and I was still too lazy. The carpal tunnel just didn't leave.

Finally, I purchased a vertical ergonomic mouse. I cannot praise it enough. It's been two years now, where I've been editing more than I have in my career, and I haven't had pain in my hands/wrist/forearm.

I have the wired and wireless version of this Anker Mouse.

For $14, even if it doesn't work, it won't drain the bank. It takes about a week to get used it. You'll keep knocking the mouse over as you go for your short keys, but it doesn't take long to adapt.

Also, try to experiment with different arm positions. I'm right handed, but when I work my mouse is closer to my left hand, between me and the keyboard. I rest my elbow on my desk, and place my arm almost parallel to my body/keyboard. Push your keyboard as far back as you can so you can rest your left elbow on the desk, too. Here's a very detailed and accurate bird's eye view of my editing setup.

Basically, I try to avoid resting on my forearms. If my elbows hang off my desk, the weight of my arm will leverage my forearms/wrists/hands. Inevitably, I'll lift my forearms off my desk and place that pressure directly on my wrists. Anytime you bend your wrist upwards, that'll cause joint pain.

I would also suggest an ergonomic keyboard. I've been using this one, and I love it. Some people don't like chicklet keys, though.

Ergonomic keyboards will definitely take time to get used to, but they are, by far, the most comfortable way to type. Shortkeys are steep learning curve there, though.

I also love standing desks, but as a freelancer I don't typically have that option. The same is true with chairs. To compensate, I try to keep my shoulders back and back straight, but it's a constant struggle.

u/shoeninja · 1 pointr/vim

I used these for years but they're noisy and the keys travel a bit too far for my taste. Recently moved to the newer version and am super happy with it.

u/Trazac · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I'm partial to Microsoft's Ergonomic Keyboards and their latest one uses chiclet keys.

u/Cokadoge · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Yeah, the keyboards are marked up to all hell. At that price point I can just buy an $80 Cherry MX-Board 3.0 W/ Reds and then an extra bit into other peripherals. I think a Topre keyboard should be ~$100+ for a decent sized one. This was the $140 keyboard I was talking about too

u/TehPanduh · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Maybe. The cheapest Topre keyboard is the Topre Type Heaven. I'm seeing them on Amazon for $150.

Is there an ideal keyboard you are envisioning in your heard?

u/dragoth13 · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I'm looking for a keyboard to replace my beloved Zippy WK-730 that I'm using at work. It's going on three years old now and starting to feel a little mushy.

I like the size of it; it doesn't take up too much space on my desk. I use a slim wrist rest with it, so I'm not married to the depth of it (although I really like how thin it is, aesthetically, I guess it's actually a hindrance to function).

After doing some cursory research, it would appear I have two choices in the mechanical keyboard space: Cherry MX Clear/Brown or Topre switches.

I'm pretty much looking at the CM Storm TK with Cherry Brown switches or the Topre Type Heaven.

I like my Zippy, other than the mushiness, and I use a wired Apple board at home. Should I even be considering these two mechboards or should I be barking up a different tree?

Has anyone here moved from a nice scissor like the Zippy or Apple slim keyboards to a mechanical and absolutely loved it? Conversely, has anyone made the jump and regretted it?

u/greatcaffeine · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Depending on how flashy of a board you're looking for, the Topre Type Heaven is only $150. Still expensive, but it's a full size board with some of the more expensive switches you can buy.

u/RavenCorbie · 1 pointr/skyrimmods

Well, I'm also a writer, so I'm definitely a keyboard enthusiast, but I wanted one that would be equally good for writing and gaming. I think I veered more towards writing.

I have a Topre Type Heaven. I also use Dvorak, which works phenomenally well with Skyrim.

With some mystical unknown special magic, within the game, hotkeys still use QWERTY, but when I need to type my name or write in the Take Notes journal or rename things with Jaxonz Renamer, it automatically switches back to Dvorak!

u/Schaudenfraud · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Yeah, I had a Type-Heaven board for a while, and this feels kinda like that, but without all the annoying squeaking and creaking that Type-Heaven did.

The board I'm asking about has a 5-pin DIN connector, though. I don't think I'm going to put the money or effort into acquiring a connector for it.

u/LLJKCicero · 1 pointr/cscareerquestions

> I do like Logitech's wired scissor key keyboard with the backlight, but I doubt that thing would survive a year with my typing.

This is the one I was talking about. Have you actually used it? I'm typing on it right now, feels robust enough to me, although I admit that I'm not a particularly heavy (aggressive?) typist.

The other type of fancy keyboard you can get besides mechanical ones are ones with electrostatic capacitive switches, e.g.: http://www.amazon.com/Topre-Type-Heaven-104-key-Keyboard/dp/B00DGJALYW/

u/ColHannibal · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Linear switches are super mediocre and unpleasant to type on, I highly recommend a Topre board.

I did find this board on Amazon, I was thinking about picking it up and then at least if I dont like it Amazon has a hassle free return policy. Are Type Heaven and Realforce the only companies that use that switch?

I've tried out the:
Topre Heaven - I was hoping for much better. The keyboard feels ancient and very heavy compared to other keyboards. Keys feel very stiff and the texture on the keycaps is weird and grainy. Didn't like it all, maybe personal preference but did not type as fluid as the Das keyboard or even Logitech 810.

"However, it wasn't for me. Here's why. I'm used to a Cherry MX Red board, lubricated and o-ringed. My typing (yes, typing on Reds) has adapted to it, and I can type for what seems to be forever without feeling any pain. I wanted to try a Topre board though from reading all the good things about them, so I bought the Type Heaven. I found I had to exert too much effort to type on the Type Heaven. Switching back and forth, I concluded that the slightly smoother feeling and the tactility weren't worth the money for me. But just because I found it too heavy doesn't mean you will. Actually some people on Geekhack found it too light."

and so on...

Eh, I'm using a glorious ThinkPad laptop keyboard and can't understand high-profile keyboards in general. If I'm ever going to get a desktop, my keyboard of choice would probably be this.

u/fishbaitx · 1 pointr/talesfromtechsupport

u/CuttlefishQuincunx · 1 pointr/thinkpad

I don't know about overpriced, but they are definitely more expensive than other brands of similar quality, like Dell. Lenovo is awesome, but I consider them to be somewhat of a luxury item, because you are definitely paying very high a premium for comfort. I believe Thinkpads are definitely worth it, but only if you do a lot of typing and need something portable and aren't on a strict budget. If you dig the Trackpoint and don't mind using and external keyboard, you can always get a Dell and use with Lenovo's external keyboard with Trackpoint, available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-ThinkPad-Compact-Keyboard-TrackPoint/dp/B00F3U4TQS/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1535836363&sr=1-2&keywords=thinkpad+keyboard+with+trackpoint.

I have both a Dell 6530 Latitude and a Lenovo X1 Carbon. I use a Dell XPS at work. The business class Dells are a better value by far, with much better specs for the price and greater durability, since they have magnesium cases rather than plastic/carbon fiber like Lenovos. However, I really like the Lenovo keyboard and aesthetics - both visual and tactile. The experience of typing on a Thinkpad is awesome. Dell keyboards are very nice but get very hot to the touch in the area where you rest your palms if using for an extended period. Some of the Dell models have a trackpoint, but it isn't really usable, compared to the Lenovo trackpoint, which is really comfortable to use and accurate enough to completely replace your mouse and/or touchpad. I almost always use an external keyboard with Dell laptops.

I would recommend going to the refurbished/scratch and dent section of the Dell website and checking out returns. I got my 6530 Latitude for half off (less than $1000) with incredible specs six years ago when I was a student, and it is still going strong. I would not bother with Acer, or any other cheaper brands, because as a student you are really not going to want something that you may need to replace in the next few years. (I did have an Acer before the Dell - it completely fell apart on my way to class one day after a duct tape repair failed. The thing just fell apart bit by bit over the course of a year, flaking off chunks of plastic, keys, etc - terrible build quality.) By the way, my six-year old Latitude smoked the new Carbon X-1 when I benchmarked them. Another point to consider is the screen, which is lackluster on all Lenovo laptops, (except the really high end Yoga models with OLED screens) whereas the screens on business class Dells are generally great. One drawback to the the more affordable Dell business machines is that they are heavy and make a statement - whether you want them to or not. They are aggressively large and unfashionable. I didn't care about that, but I did note that it looked out of place in the sea of sleek Macbooks that almost everyone else was using. If you care about that, and have a bit more room in your budget, the XPS is a very nice machine, and you can sometimes find them in scratch and dent section as well. My refurbished Latitude had no discernible scratches or dents of any kind, and I still consider it one of the best, if not the best, purchases I've ever made.

In short, I wouldn't really recommend a new or refurbished Lenovo laptop for a student, especially if that is your main machine.

I've been looking at low-profile compact keyboard options recently, and to my surprise it's proving trickier than expected, so I'm asking for suggestions

Criteria are as following:

  • Low-profile and generally thin
  • Doesn't necessarily have to be mechanical but is to be used for a lot of typing
  • Function key row
  • US-style layout (wide LShift, Horizontal Enter key)
  • Normal-sized arrow keys (not Apple-style half-height)
  • Either normal TKL or 84-key - needs Home, End, Delete keys
  • Can have or not have backlight^((so long as it's not always-on and shining like a thousand suns))
  • Can be wired or wireless
  • <=$150; shipping from US

Am currently using a Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop keyboard. The keys feel really nice, and the layout is good, but so far the mid-keyboard gap isn't quite clicking with me (I've pressed Y with my left hand for at least 10 years now, and here it's on the right side) and their other keyboards with same type of keys are all full-sized.

I have a Logitech K380 lying around, and it's alright (no high standards, mostly used with mobile devices), but not a fan of squished arrow keys.

    Current considerations:

  • Sharkoon Purewriter TKL
  • HAVIT HV-KB390L
  • Thinkpad Compact Keyboard

Update: Settled on HAVIT. Sharkoon seems OK too but only ships from Germany (?) and is a little thicker; Thinkpad is generally highly regarded but the layout is a bit oddish (Fn is left-most key) and my life can do without the perspectives of cleaning any more laptop-esque (inset) keyboards.

This large ass post, what did I learn?

  • But before that, I wanted to go back in my life, and explore why I am the way I am. 11 weeks ago I wrote this topic to explore just that.

  • I had read a Psychology book 2 years ago (since I always wanted to learn it), called "Psychology in plain English". I learned enough Psychology there basically, everything I ever wanted to know. Proceeded not to look at anything psychology related for 2 whole years to today.

  • I decided, to finally accept my closeted gaming experiences and merge it in this post with my real life experiences. I thought, what the fuck, why not do a scientific study while I'm at it? So I basically diagnosed my own issues like a shrink would, at least I think I did, found out where all my problems were, found out that I'm a sociopath, found out lots of things.

  • So I decided to write a theory on everything I learned. Because why the fuck not? There's been no studies like this or anyone like me remotely in terms of similar experiences, so I figured i'd do something pseudo-science-y and make up my own theories about thinking. Like I read these self-help books like "7 habits of highly effective people" or "Choose yourself!", but I wanted to write my own but really, all they do is use ancedotes for everything. I haven't read a self-help book that was entirely an autobiography that also happened to be a bestseller on amazon.

  • So I made my theory up.

    ------------------

TL;DR short sweet version of theory

  • I went and explored how Newton invented physics back in the day, I went and explored the birth of science and history from cavemen times, the birth of linguistics, what twitter hashtags and evernote hashtags were related to that. And how my merging of two identities - my gaming pseudonym daphoenix, and my real life self, and the effects of it (no self-studies have been done here). I ended up writing a whole theory behind just that. I called it "Physical memory tag" or PMT for short, which essentially is how you associate objects in real life with your 5 senses. I called the other thing, your random inner voice thought process, as "Virtual Memory Tag" or VMT for short

  • To prove my theory, I took extreme examples in history, such as serial rapist, terrorists, feral humans, animal behavior, darwinism, social LBGT issues today, suicide bridge examples and testimonies, psychological studies, some studies on similar studies that align to mine from merging a gaming identity to real-self, how hypnosis works, explored how I got smarter over time despite being stupid as shit in 2nd grade, and then analyzed how my idea rates changed over time, with writing this post. Analyzed some of my dreams while I was at it. Basically, that's how I validated my theory-ish to some degree

  • Here's the results of all of that. http://imgur.com/hYvZCnv (there's more though). Its not easily understandable since I used lots of jargon. Basically, what I did was I think? reinvent psychology in my own terminology. Possibly. I think I may have made some psychological discoveries along the way. Dunno. Need to peer-review it though. I might publish a dissertation on this for fun though, granted I've never taken a neuroscience or psychology course, so I really don't know how right or wrong I am. Plus I'd need to do a statistical P<0.05 value correlation with a large enough sampling to prove my theories. Its not something I really care too much about, I mostly wrote my theories so I can understand myself better, and apply it towards learning. Which I do, mostly by having 5 reddit accounts in this thing I called MIND STATES. More on that later, it'd take awhile to explain

    --------------------

    TL:DR of post

  • Yap, so that's the story of my life. Sorry for the overkill statement, I hadn't condensed it into readable form yet and decided to do it with this post

    > I use the surface pro and it really is probably the best for ON. But I've also used a Samsung tablet with S pen that worked pretty well. It just had syncing issues constantly. So I broke it in a rage and saved up and got a surface.

  • Forgot to answer your question, But yeah the reason syncing happens is because on Samsung Tablet, its an app version, not a full version (Surface is a full version app). Syncing happens usually when you connect to wifi, at least that's how I remembered it worked. If you had a onenote App (say on your tablet), and a computer open at the same time, and wrote notes on both, syncing is really slow. I manually sync my work PC to my home PC

  • But, not everyone can afford a $300 to $2100 dollar machine, plus its risky carrying that around in your backpack. Might get stolen. Which is why in class, I'd still take notes via paper and pen. OR better yet, you could do this http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Bluetooth-Multi-Device-Smartphones-920-006342/dp/B00MUTWLW4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00 + your smartphone. I've taken notes this way its actually pretty effective, cost $30, your still typing too but just using simple note formats. Don't even need a tablet. If you need to draw a diagram, use pen+paper, reference it in the notes, scan it later into there (1. just take your phone, 2. take a picture, 3. email yourself, 4. go home on PC see email, 5. +SHAREX screenshot, go to note, put link, your done). You can even filter your emails out you send to yourself. Its extremely fast and effective, and it backs it all up on your PC at the same time AND by email, plus you get great notes, don't have to carry a heavy expensive laptop around, and its very LEAN in nature (just carry a bluetooth keyboard that's all! and maybe a backup 3000 mAH battery to charge your phone). All together, those 5 steps take awhile to load up, but it takes less than 30 seconds overall to do the entire process, even less if your doing multiple photos / scanned docs

  • ^ At least, that's what experience tells me is the fastest overall and most useful reliable way of taking notes are. You could use a tablet too, like a cheap $99 one here too

    ---------~~

After school - Work -Haven't really succeeded in my work projects partially because I got lazy as hell by writing this post for 3 months instead, because this was a once-in-a-lifetime-breakthrough-thought process that wasn't going to happen again. Also, partly in the fact that no one really wants to invest in anything, so I decided I'd invest purely in myself instead. So I wrote this long post. I feel like I would've had some really deep regrets though if I didn't write this 600,000 -800,000 word post, its why growing up I felt "Deja-Vu" a lot, I just really wish I took better notes

Iwish I changed majors and took an extra 3 years of schooling. It made me really sad. I clung to my old ways for the first

I kind of regretted never starting a youtube channel, so in Guild Wars 2 (another really big MMO game), I decided

Actually honestly I never gave a flying fuck about my GPA, it just so happens that I could regurgitate information really well but not apply it. I did a lot of research in school (3 years) and learned that I really hate research. I simply cannot sit in one place spending like a hundred hours doing one sample preparation, it bores me shitless, because I could've done XYZ in those timeframes

Junior -> Senior year university, I had 3 internships accept me (I only really applied to 10, writing applications took forever and I got lazy), I took one with the Nuclear Regulatory commission(NRC), but

I felt like I didn't have any guidance my entire life and just picked a major that seemed to interest me, but I grew to really hate it senior year university.

I had a lot of social stigma issues in senior year university

I didn't pick the major I really wanted,

Mark of the Ninja
This is number two on my "I Want This Now" list. The visuals and play style look absolutely beautiful, and you have the option to stealth it out or kill your way through, but you still can't be reckless. 2-D platforming with added functionality to really make it a better looking ninja game than most on the market.

Psychonauts
There are days where I watch the trailer and think, "I really need to play this game." Then there are other days where my thoughts are, "Why the hell would I play Psychonauts, like, ever?!" It's a struggle, and I think it's because the visual style and overall tone remind me a lot of American McGee's Alice, and the personal struggles I was going through when that game was a big part of my life.

Speaking of American McGee's Alice, here's the sequel! Something about the play style being changed to a more fleshed out platformer makes this installment seem more appealing. The style and tone are still dark and grim, but maybe because the actual graphics are better and more well-rounded, the theme doesn't set me back to my own personal dark days.

I'm not aware of anything that has a mechanical keyboard and touchpad built together (assuming that is what you want). I have seen membrane keyboards like that, for example the Logitech K400 or K830. There is also the Tex Yoda II, which is a mechanical keyboard but it has one of those rubber mouse nipples instead of a touchpad.

Edit: Another option is to get a fully programmable keyboard then program a layer with mouse controls.

Logitech K800. I love mine. The reviews on amazon complaining about build quality are just stupid. Those people probably spill mountain dew all over the boards and then use them to beat their 10 house cats.

I'm not 100% sure on this, so watch it and make your own conclusions, but if you watch the video carefully, right around 25 seconds when the camera comes down, you can see his left leg lifting in time with the keyboard tapping. Now it may just be coincidence, but he could be using a USB foot pedal to launch the calculator. Not saying it's definitely happening, but it's a possibility.

Something like this:

Ordered BOSE QC25 , 24MP88HV LG Monitor and Logitech BT Keybooard for a total price of Rs.25496.

Did I spend too much this season?

Edit : Also planning to buy a Google Home from FK which is selling at 7k

I didn't think it was as pricey as it seems to be, but maybe other brands exist. They actually make one handed keyboards, however.

Uhm, no.

And the RealForce and HH Keyboards are far more expensive, despite having having 17 topre keys less.
