Mace carrier here! May have saved me from an assault when two guys started approaching me right next to my college. I recommend Sabre. I got this one here: Pepper Spray,15gr Quik Release https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000UVTDLG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_wFGkzbQZ5ZCET

It has a 10 foot range and UV marking dyes. It's used by many police forces.

Don't know if you are serious about getting some but hey, some info is always good (:

Don't forget to call your local police immediately to tell them if you ever used it or threatened to use it. I was only threatening with mine and it was enough to scare them away after a lengthy yelling match. The cops said I did the right thing and patrolled the area a bit more for the next few days.

Stay safe!

The Pro version is also on sale.

Just to head off some comments that will definitely probably happen judging from all the times this was posted before:

The sports don't fit everyone well, they're very head shape dependent. If they don't seal properly they won't work as well.

They don't work at indoor ranges as well as the pros or many other over-the-ear hearing protection because they're only 22 NRR, and again, they may not fit everyone well. (I feel like everyone should at least consider doubling up with inserts and earmuffs for most shooting anyway, in which case your insert is what matters more as far as protection goes, but live however you want).

Turning up the background noise amplification will let you hear conversation pretty well even with foam inserts in.

People really like noisefighter ear pad replacements despite them costing more than the actual earmuffs. That may not be the best link or price, I just linked the first one I found.

PRO version of the very popular Howard Leight Impact Sport.

These have NR of 30 instead of 22 (SPORT) but also are much wider which can impede usage with rifles/shotguns or any that requires cheek-weld. Commentors online recommend doubling up with foamies and lifting/sliding the earmuff side you are resting your check on to complete the cheek-weld.

Remember. Every 3dB increase is a DOUBLING OF POWER, and every 6dB a doubling of sound pressure level.

Stereo directional sound (Walkers are stereo mic'd but omni-directional so no directional queues) with thick pads and a 3.5mm audio input jack.

CamelCamelCamel shows that this is the lowest price over the last 365 days and this price just changed on Aug 29 to $43.00

Shipped and fullfilled by Amazon.

Also check out the Amazon Warehouse options. I bought one that was marked Used but description noted it is new in original packaging with some cosmetic damage to outer packaging. That box is going in the trash anyway.

Outside of the legal options, may I also suggest you purchase some pepper spray from Amazon for your personal protection? Obviously don't use it unless attacked, but I think it's a good idea for everyone to carry this on their person. You are allowed to carry it. My wife has this on her at all times.

You can buy pepper spray on amazon. Just saying in case you want a way to defend yourself.

u/delish3 · 16 pointsr/AskTrollX

Pepper spray! I’ve had one on my keys for about a year and even though I’ve luckily never had to use it, I always feel safer knowing I have it.

You can get one like this off amazon for pretty cheap.

I have one from a company called BlingSting, which is a bit more pricey, but I just wanted something cute if it’s gonna be on my keychain (Which is not a great priority, I know). They also have these alarm devices and escape hammers which could be good options for you too!

I hope you find something that works for you!

If the threat model is persistent intruder, then you might have an issue even with a safe that's not secured to the location.

If the thread model is "kids/guests", then any sort of lock box is going to be just fine.

As you say, a quick-access safe in discrete concealment might meet the best of both worlds. A GunVault Micro at 8.5" x 11" x 2.5" is going to need a pretty big "book" to conceal. The "Nano" line is only 8.2" x 6" x 1.8", a bit easier.

Also, there's plenty of in-plain-sight furniture (shelving, tables, &c.) along those lines.

u/flymo_stall · 11 pointsr/gundeals
u/Skripka · 11 pointsr/violinist

I wouldn't be...But that is me and my ears. Take care of your own. When you start banking hours of focused practice a day I certainly would. It especially helps as ears get "tired" after a while. There's also the development of tone to consider-the only way to know how your tone is, is to hear it. Either direct or on a tape. Hard day of practice/rehearsal-I keep plugs in, but that is me and the hours I have to keep for the job.

Today in modern life we're surrounded by loud noises and just get completely desnsitized to it. Back in Bach's day, the loudest thing anyone would experience in their day to day existence (short of a war) was a pipe organ. Today, no one thinks much of a pipe organ in loudness. Kids go to rock/pop/country shows where I've pulled out a calibrated professional sound pressure level gauge and clocked those acts at 100+dB sustained backstage, 50ft behind the speaker arrays, for 3 hours. In the house, the sound level is hot enough to damage plaster on the walls....meanwhile the kids are having their hearing actively destroyed and don't notice/care.

Car engines, motorcycles, vacuum cleaners, lawn mowers....the list goes on and on. Whenever I need to mow the lawn of vacuum clean--I have a ballistic -30dB certified headset for it--because those damn things are loud, even the "quiet" ones.

u/zxj4k3xz · 10 pointsr/airsoft

If you're in the US, you've got Evike, AirsoftGI, Amped Airsoft, and Airsoft Atlanta. There's probably more, but those are my go-tos.

For guns, I'd recommend CYMA VFC-clone AKs (CM040s, 045s, and 048s), G&G Combat Machines, or Classic Army Skirmish line. It really depends on your budget though. If you can go higher, I'd suggest doing so.

All I'd suggest to start with are a battery/charger, and some extra mags. If you don't like iron sights, get a red dot like a field sport with a riser. A foregrip, like one from PTS might be nice as well. A sling might be nice as well. I'm a big fan of my LBX Sling. I'd definitly recommend trying your gun before buying anything.

u/Publix_Deli · 10 pointsr/gundeals

I'm the same way. As a fellow budget optic enthusiast, I feel compelled to tell you that the Field Sport micro red dot is, by far, the best budget optic I've ever used. The dot is crisp and bright, with no noticeable parallax past 25 yards. There are youtube videos of people beating the shit out of them, submerging them in water, freezing them, and putting them in a toaster oven with melted cheese, all without failure or POI shift. It's honestly so good I can't justify spending the money on any more expensive red dots except for a real Aimpoint T1, and only because of the T1's incredible battery life.

First things first, see if there are any fields nearby that have rentals. Go out and play with a rental before dropping $500, last thing you'd want to is spend that much money on a loadout only to find you don't like playing airsoft.

Now that being said, $500 is actually a very reasonable starting budget. I'm already going to assume that you have a good pair of boots, if you don't then you def are going to want to add that as something to purchase. So I have a basic loadout, it's going to be 3 different stores because airsoft retailers are an awful place to buy lipo batteries. A lot of these items I've either owned or know people personally who do.

So let's start off with the basics.

  • The G&G CM16 SRXL - It's a step up from their basic Combat Machine lineup, but still sub $250. It has a basic MOSFET from the factory that can be programmed to shoot either full auto or 3 round burst when set to auto. One negative about the MOSFET is I've heard reports of it burning out on 11.1v lipos, so stick to 7.4v ones for now. It is going to shoot just below 400, which makes it perfect for field play. It is a keymod rail, but the one downside is it's "airsoft spec" keymod so keep that in mind when buying keymod accessories. Overall it's a great gun for the price and very much a good starting gun.

  • ALTERNATIVE ICS PAR MK3 - This gun is on sale right now, down from $340 to $214, so if you can get it while it's this cheap then it's a steal. ICS guns are tanks and they are very easy to work on down the line due to their split gearbox design. My first gun was an ICS CXP-16 and it is still running for the dude who bought it from me to this very day. You may need to drop a new spring in, but again due to the split gearbox that's super easy.

  • G&P High RPS midcaps - Great mags for a great price. The will handle damn near any ammo and any rounds per second you can throw at it. They are a bit tight in some guns, you might have to give your mag a bit of a love tap to get it to lock in, but at the same time that means there is very little mag wobble. 5 mags is more than enough for your basic open play. If you're wanting to go to longer events down the road, you can just buy another set of 5 and you're golden.

  • G&P CompM4 Replica - I use this red dot on my shorter M4. It's got a great build quality, comes with a kill flash to keep your scope protected, and takes AA batteries. That last bit about taking AA batteries is my favorite part, I am awful about forgetting to turn off my red dot and it's nice to know that it takes a very common battery.

  • LBX Lock and Load Chest Rig in Project Honor - The LBX Lock and Load chest rig is one of the most underrated chest rigs on the market. It can hold damn near anything you'd need for a day of playing. It's very easy to take off and put on thanks to the large zipper up front. It has plenty of padding in all the right places to keep you comfortable throughout the day. It's overall just a great value. The Project Honor camo one being only $25 is an absolute steal, I personally picked one of these up when I saw that price and it's well worth it. It may not be the prettiest camo out there, but you can't even come close to that quality in the $25 price range.

  • Krytac .25g BBs 4000 count - Great BBs, never had any issues with them feeding. It's one of the 4 brands of BBs I will use in my rifles.

  • 6mmProShop 500 round speedloader - A nice, basic speedloader. Better than the smaller pistol mag sized ones since you don't have to fill it up after every freaking magazine. I had one of these for a while, only reason I don't still use it is because someone stole it at an open play. A step up would be the Odin Sidewinder but that puts your budget over $500.

All of this with the Free3Day coupon code puts you at $410.

Now we get to protection gear (and a charger)

  • Pyramex I-Force Dual Pane Goggles - Great pair of budget priced goggles. I personally use these on longer games or days when I just don't feel like running my larger goggles. For anyone that doubts the quality of these Valken rebrandes them for their Zulu goggles and charges almost twice as much.

  • OneTigris mesh lower facemask - Better than the full mesh ones because the cloth on the sides conforms to your face better. There is still plenty of padding on the cloth sides to protect your face and it gives you a better cheek weld on the rifle. Only complaint I have is they do tend to get a little hot if it is very hot outside, but that's the tradeoff for protection.

  • Tenergy lipo charger - Nice, basic lipo charger. You'll need this for the batteries I'm linking later. I use this charger personally, haven't had any issues with it yet.

If you have Amazon Prime, that put's this portion to a total of $53. Overall we're at $463.

Now for the batteries. I always suggest HobbyKing for purchasing lipos, they have by far the best prices on lipos. These 1200 mAh 2s nunchuck lipos should work great for your gun. Lipos are going to give you a better trigger response than NiMH batteries. I'd order two of these, which are about $13 total. Shipping will cost you about $9.

    Overall total: $485

>Are the 250+ dollar ones worth it to a casual shooter?

I am not a casual shooter and they aren't even worth it to me.

Howard Leight Impact Pro is what I use most of the time.

If I'm at an indoor range then I'll double up using In Ear Plugs under my muffs.

The Howard Leights can make cheek welds a bit weird, generally, this doesn't affect me much but if I'm doing some bench shooting and I need to hold a great weld for a long time then I'll just use my in earplugs and forgo any muffs.

99% of the time though I use the muffs.

Also, if your muffs don't have gel cups - get some. They make a HUGE difference and are 500% worth the $30-50 you'll spend. Currently I'm using Noisefighter's Sightlines - these have a shelf cut for glasses. Very happy with them.

No experience with this particular optic, but there is a thread on arfcom for a similar model from Field sport, which sells on Amazon for ~$20. I'm thinking that one is going to be my go-to range toy/.22/loaner scope.

You probably want to go with something that displays in grains, otherwise you'll need to convert all of measurements from grams/oz. I use this one and it is ok.

You're gonna mess up.

You'll probably also want some way to store / carry the rounds you've made.

I'd also recommend a case gauge. I don't remember which one I bought, lyman maybe? ABCs of reloading too, if you haven't read that yet.

Holosun, Vortex, and Sig make fantastic budget red dots. Holosun is my personal favorite. Beware of cheaper red dots from NC Star, Sightmark, and TruGlo. They’re all Chinese garbage that will break after a few rounds with a rifle. They are only good for airsoft. You might think you’re saving money with a cheap red dot, but one it breaks you’ll have to spend another $100 for a good dot that actually works. DO NOT BUY THIS RED DOT. https://imgur.com/gallery/Jb7fl2Q it’s very popular in video games but it sucks IRL.

Here are some good budget red dots.

This is the OEM model that only comes with the high mount. It does not come with the low mount or the slick box. You can get that one on Amazon for a couple bucks more.

u/Disposable-01 · 7 pointsr/gundeals

If you prefer black Amazon has the Sig Sauer Romeo 5 for $99.99. Pick Amazon.com as the seller (shows as temporarily out of stock but you can order it). If you are eligible for the Amex points offer you can save 20% and get it for $80.

Also: "Includes a M1913 Picatinny low mount riser and a co-witness 1.41in riser mount "

Reposted as the Amazon offer was flagged as an affiliate link. You can find it with a little search engine work, though.

EDIT: Okay, not 15 minutes after I posted it Amazon jumped the price to $125. $100 after the points discount, so not quite as exciting. All I can say is keep an eye on it if you are interested. I've seen it fluctuate a few times before I posted.

Okay, here's my recommended loadout for you: (using your $1k budget)

Gun: Tokyo Marui Recoil Shock M4 SOCOM $460 Test firing video of gun

And yes, despite all the Tokyo Marui stigma that all their electric guns are cheap plastic, the new ones (since 2009) are made of metal.

Mags x3-5 $75-$125

Battery and Charger

Most Tokyo Marui guns hold their values really well, and they perform well too. Most guns, when you open the box, they instantly lose 1/3 of their value from you just touching it. But Tokyo Marui guns have a reputation of being reliable and pretty rare outside of Japan, so they hold their values much better, usually at 80% of original, or sometimes if you find the right buyer it'll hold 100% of their value. Not to mention they perform very good and have superb accuracy right out of the box. The Socom M4 also has a unique bolt lock (like the Systema PTW) and a simulated recoil function that provides feedback when you shoot it. Downside to this gun is that you need to buy special magazines for the gun to feed, or buy an adapter. So if you somehow don't like Airsoft, then you can resell this gun for basically MSRP.

Shirt: Voodoo Tactical Combat shirt $30 Best combat shirt, very breathable, has zippers to vent armpits as well.

Plate Carrier: Shellback Tactical Banshee plate carrier $130 Pretty much a real steel plate carrier, one of the best you can buy, and is not that bulky for better mobility.

Dump pouch: Any dump pouch will do, $15

Mag pouches: I use a condor one $20 (because I'm cheap) but I've tried a HSGI Taco pouch $30 each and they're pretty good... But pretty expensive

Eye Protection: If you play outdoors and want goggles, I can't really give you a recommendation here, but I play indoors and I use a full facemask the dye i4. It fits really well to your face, is low profile, and never fogs.

I would use the remaining money on gun equipment to make to make it more "OPERATORZ"

G&P red dot sight Eotech 551 clone $60

Magpul PTS Handguards $20

Magpul MOE vertical Grip $20 will only work with the MOE hand guards above

So for reference, I have a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40 and it's been a fine scope. I've also used someone else's Nikon P-223 scope and it was good too, so you probably wouldn't go far wrong with either of the ones you linked. But, adjustable parallax is something I probably wouldn't get a scope without anymore, especially for .22 where the range can vary from across the room distance to 100+ yards. The key words to look for in the scope specs are "adjustable parallax", "adjustable objective" (AO, when the parallax adjustment is done by twisting a ring around the objective lens at the front), or "side-focus" (when the parallax adjustment is on a turret on the side of the scope).

If you want to stick with Nikon, it looks like they're making an inexpensive adjustable parallax scope now. The tech specs on that site say it adjusts down to 50 yards, but the mark on the adjustment ring in the picture says 10, and Amazon also says 10 yards minimum, which is good for .22.

On the lower end of the budget, I also have a number of inexpensive Leapers/UTG/Centerpoint scopes (3-9x40, 3-9x35, 1.5-4x32, and a couple others) and have actually been really impressed with them for the money. Their main market seems to be air rifles, which many people take less seriously, but air rifle scopes have to be very rugged, and typically can adjust their parallax to much closer than scopes meant for rifles. And the prices are pretty damn good for the features. This UTG 3-9x32 has almost 2000 reviews and still 4.5 stars on Amazon, is very compact, comes with a sunshade, caps, and QD scope rings (I just got a set of UTG QD rings for another scope and they seem OK so far, .22 isn't very demanding), adjusts down to 3 yards, and is under $80. Amazing what they're doing in China these days. There are a number of similar models from other brands with various features and zoom ranges, probably all made in the same factory in China. I'm not sure if any of them are notably better quality than any others, I mostly stick with UTG for my cheap scopes because I have experience with them now.

One I saw just now is this Bushnell 2-7x32, and looks like it might be a good alternative.

On the higher end of the budget scale, Vortex has a 4-12x50 and a 4-12x40 that are adjustable. That's also more magnification though.

NRR of 22 is very low, IMHO.

For slightly more, here are NRR 30's:
Howard Leight R-01902 Impact Pro Electronic Shooting Earmuffs https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007BGSI5U/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_tVLJub19BQAXD

My go to is the Peltor Ultimate 10 - a $16 NRR 30 non-electronic muff. On the electronic side, I've been using Pro Ears with an NRR of 30 but I think I'm going to pick up the HL's above.

Maybe it is just my experience, but with 22's I have had to wear foams underneath.
Foams are cheap and easy to find at >NRR 30, so that is what I set as my baseline for muffs. I won't sacrifice my long term hearing (or what's left of it, what?) for convenience. I love Peltor, I just wish they would step up to 30 on the electronic side.

You might consider a tackle box of some kind.

For example, this one is pretty sizeable (16.5 x 12 x 16 inches ; 6 pounds), and has a ton of compartments.

I don't know how well it would work with large quantities of rings, but it can certainly hold a sizeable variety of rings.

Dear OP, since it seems you are honestly curious for discussion, I will provide a thorough and honest breakdown as to why Jim's presentation on gun control can be considered, at best, low-blow hyperbole and satire that is not constructive in the discussion of gun control in the USA.

0:00~1:30 - Jim states government mandates on guns have worked in Australia and acknowledges some general cultural differences in the US. Jim dismisses high profile shootings that have happened in Australia post mandate (granted it is not nearly as bad as what happens in the USA)

Pt.1, 1:30-5:00 - Jim states the only argument for having a gun is that one likes guns, that they increase risk of domestic tragedy, and are not a viable solution for home protection. In examining the possible (and very unique) benefits of having a gun, it's more than just simply "I like guns" (and I promise I will elaborate on that later). In regards to suicide, the USA is not a statistical leader; countries with stricter controls such as France, Japan and S.Korea have higher suicide rates. In regards to responsible storage, there are solutions that lock guns away from curious children while allowing quick access should they be required.

Pt.1, 5:00~6:45 - Jim mocks the suggestion that armed staff at schools could reduce the damage from school shooters, describing staff as lacking qualification or incentive. Some school districts have regular police officers to be security at schools, often carrying their duty weapons while fulfilling their regular duties.

Pt.1, 6:45~7:15 Jim reels it all back saying not everyone agrees with him, but this is just a stand-up routine, so don't get all wound up. Well, thanks Jim! It's not like gun control supporters are going to take you seriously and share this link on social media to make their case, compelling me to write a serious response to your admittedly not so serious comedy routine. But you do take this seriously, as the ratings for this video are disabled, and you delete any comments containing thoughtful and honest disagreement.

Pt.1, 7:15-7:45 Jim addresses those who disagree with him, saying they're upset because he has "good points." No you don't, you dishonest hyperbolic gaslighter. If good comedy is about making light about the hard truths of life, please do better with your facts next time.

Pt.2, 0:00~2:15 - Jim is right that the first amendment protects him as he criticizes other amendments, and that they are not sacred as they are amendments, after all. So, here's what it takes to change the constitution, specifically in regards to repealing the 2nd as other amendments have in the past. Easy!

Pt.2, 2:15~3:00 - Slavery strawman. Slavery is antithetical to the ideals of human rights and freedom. Firearms have unique qualities in promoting freedom (again, will get into that, I promise).

Pt.2, 3:00~4:00 - Jim says it's the negligent 1% that screws up what responsible people should be allowed to do. Generally, that is the case. Gun control in the USA, for the most part, has been expanding for the past 100 years, most of it failing due generally to a lack of enforcement.

Pt.2, 4:00~5:00 - Unfunny and unproductive sidestep into Descartes foundational philosophy; moving on.

Pt.2, 5:00~6:15 - Jim says guns are too easy to buy (and that they can be delivered, which is mostly false). Jim jokes at the idea of a black market, saying crazy people won't have as much access to them. This may be true, but like with the prohibition, this incentivizes organized crime. And with enough guns to arm every human in the USA, manufacturing capabilities such as machining and 3D printing, all of which has a better shelf life than moonshine, a black market is a very real possibility.
Muzzle loaded guns can be shipped through the mail

Pt.2, 6:15~7:50 Jim makes fun of the idea that a militia can resist a government force that is technologically superior. Funny enough, this is used as an argument for why either a) the power of the federal government be limited (legally and militaristically) or b) that militias should be allowed to own more than just rifles. Vietnam and Iraq prove that guerrilla militias can exhaust the US military. If the government does become tyrannical, they would need to break significant red tape to deploy the full capabilities of the US military on the homeland (see the Posse Comitatus Act, restricting such deployment). Militias would likely be lead by veterans to fight against what remains of the US military that can be deployed and has not defected over unconstitutional orders. A tyrannical government that would break through this red tape would effectively become delegitimized, fragmenting the US into civil war. As terrifying as this sounds, the 2nd Amendment helps ensure that an emerging dictatorship cannot easily exploit the resources and people of the union. The better armed a populous, the more expensive and exhausting it will be to keep them under the boot.

And before I go, I'd like to cash in on some identity politics because it often seems to be all the rage with those who support gun control. I'm a 2nd Gen immigrant to the USA, and my parents were refugees escaping a tyrannical regime. Their generation had to take up arms to buy time to escape. Those who were not so lucky were imprisoned, forced into labor and worked to death, buried in mass graves. I find it tragically ironic that gun control advocates are quite often the same people who would call Trump the 2nd Hitler, because if that is the case, then get ready to be the 2nd Warsaw Ghetto uprising. I understand there's a preference to more peaceful measures in making a more perfect union, and we should keep it that way. But if limited only to free expression and protest, change might not happen at all. Just ask the thousands of students who participated in the 1989 Tienanmen square protests. Oh wait, you can't.

If you made it this far, thanks for taking the time. If not, hey, I'll save this the next time someone shares this unproductive rambling from Jim as if it carried sound wisdom. **edit: formatting

Something like this?. It's easily hidden, It has a cable that can be used to keep the safe from being stolen, and it's quickly opened.

Edit: Also consider sticking these on your windows. They're cheaper than a full security system and will give you needed time if you are asleep and something is opened.

u/triplehelix013 · 7 pointsr/homedefense

Alarm systems and Ring doorbells are reactive rather than proactive. They help the bad guys get caught after they break into your home and steal your stuff or injure/kill the occupants.

You want to be proactive. My 2 main focuses would be the following:

  1. Make it difficult for someone to get into your apartment.
  2. Give yourself the means to protect yourself if your apartment is breached.

Things to think about for Main focus 1 (security):

As far as making it difficult for someone to get into your apartment, having the appearance of a hard target will help. Beware of dog signs are supposedly effective for homes, I don't know how they work for apartments. May be worth researching.

How secure is your door? How deep do the screws go into the door frame on the bolt? If it is less than 3 inches replace them. Consider a door jam, I don't have one of these yet but have heard great things about their effectiveness of resisting doors getting kicked in. Obviously won't help while you are out but is great for when you are inside.

How secure/reachable are your windows? Is it feasible that someone could get to your window with or without a ladder? Secure your windows as best you can. I am a fan of security screens for windows but on an apartment I doubt you are going to want to install those.

Do you have a balcony? How secure is the door/slider? If it is a door consider a door jam like for the front door. If it is a slider then make sure you have a security bar. Glass is a weakpoint, I like security screens as for windows, but if not an option security film may be.

Things to think about for Main focus 2 (defense):

I saw in a previous comment you are not comfortable having a gun in your house. I would suggest you get comfortable with it. A firearm is the most effect tool to use in self defense because it is a distance tool. It can be used to stop a threat before they get within range to do lethal damage. Also it is not uncommon for armed robbers to be equipped with stolen firearms themselves and you will be left at their mercy praying they are just thieves and not murderers. If you do decide to get a firearm to protect yourself and your home get some training. A good instructor will make you comfortable with firearm safety and help you develop good practices early to be safe and effective with a firearm. I realize you might not want to consider this option and it is your right to choose whatever you feel comfortable with but I wanted to mention it anyway.

Non-firearm defense tools you could utilize is flashlights, pepper spray, blunt objects (as lethal as firearms but not as effective for self defense), sharp objects (also as lethal and less effective), stun guns (can be effective against weak willed opponents).

Personally I always have a 800 Lumen flashlight, knife, and pepper spray on my body. In my home and car I also keep a 1000 lumen flashlight and large fixed blade knives. Although I would hope to never be in such a fight for my life that I have exhausted all my firearms and have to use them.

I would highly recommend you get a bright flashlight you are comfortable carrying with you and pepper spray. A bright flashlight can be blinding in low light, if you have to deploy it shine it in their eyes and use that opportunity to see what is in their hands. Pepper spray is not very effective against determined attackers but may be enough to buy you some time to escape.

You may also want to look into a stun gun to use when walking the dog to deploy if the pepper spray fails to stop your assailant. I have two flashlight/stungun combos for walking the dog.

You only get one life, when it comes time to act or die; act with everything you got and the tools you have available to yourself at that time. Hopefully you will never have to deploy those defense tools but keeping them handy could be the difference between a long life and one that ends that afternoon.

    Good luck and stay safe

Here's a few I snagged from my recently ordered list.

Secure USB Drive - For storing scans of important documents.

Mylar Blankets - Ridiculously thin. Good to keep in the car or every day carry bag for a variety of situations.

Camp Suds - Or alternately hand sanitizer. Both useful to stay healthy in Flu season or another outbreak that spreads via contact.

Emergency Whistle - Small enough to keep on a keychain. Loud enough to get attention when it's needed.

Mylar Bags + Oxygen Absorbers - If you're prepping, putting a hundred pounds or so of white rice in 5 gallon buckets is a great way to get started on a long term food supply without breaking the bank. Put it in these and it will stay fresher longer.

Water BOB - Great little device for if/when you know the water supply may be at risk. It's a cheap way to be able to store 100 gallons in preparation for an emergency.

Pepper Spray - The security product you can take most places.

Starter First Aid Kit - Gotta get that going some how. This one has a hard shell which is nice for tossing it in a pack. You'll have to fill it out with what you're likely to need.

Mainstay 2400 Calorie Bars - They stay good through some pretty extreme highs and lows which makes them ideal for tossing in a car. They last about 5 years or so and don't require any water to make them. They're very handy as they're a purchase and forget about them item (for a few years anyway) that lets you have some immediate food for however long you have them stocked for.

Life Straw - A personal filter for waterborne bacteria. Most water purification methods have some significant cost to them, but this one is a great inexpensive item to get started with.

There's a ton of little things on Amazon that are kind of cool to have on hand, but I'd recommend snagging whatever is most likely to help you in whatever your situation is likely to be. If you live in a wildfire prone area... the usb drive would be a wise start. Earthquakes? The emergency whistle. Bad neighborhood, pepper spray. You get the idea. Good luck!

Not foam core, but if you clear coat the minis, I don't see how the minimal amount of movement in the tacklebox is gonna cause any problems. This solution holds all released minis and more when some of the slots are doubled up. I considered foam core, but with all the minis it seems to be a large waste of space.

On the left is my first long gun, a Ruger American Rimfire model 8301. It has a Simmons 3-9x32 scope on an Evolution Scope Base. It currently has no other mods. I've considered dropping in the Timoney trigger, but I feel like this firearm is AOK in the current configuration. This was the second time I have fired the RAR with the scope on it. The first time was about a week ago where I shot it off of bags to get it zeroed in. Today, I shot standing/unsupported. That was a challenge. I loaded 5 rounds at a time. I learned that doing an upper body workout a few hours before going to the range can make a light firearm feel really heavy. I think I'm going to try using the higher comb cheek riser to see if I can get a more consistent cheek weld without having to contort my neck so much. My focus this range visit was shooting with both eyes open, and getting as consistent groups as I could. I fired 50 rounds of CCI Blazer. Now it makes sense to me why people shoot prone, use a monopod, or a bipod. Shooting off hand made me realize how much I move when firing. It was a great training experience that will carry over to how I shoot my other firearms.

On the right is my most recent long gun (I picked it up yesterday), a bone stock Ruger PC Carbine model 19101 (non-treaded barrel with 10 round magazine version). This was my first range visit with the PC Carbine. I was extremely excited to get some range time with this one. Prior to this, I had only fired: .22LR, 12 gauge, and .223 from long guns. The .223 was when I took a rifle course at Sig Sauer Academy (loaner MCX).

First Impressions of the PC Carbine

To me, it had all the fun of shooting a 10/22 with a bigger boom.

I was skeptical about trying to use ghost ring sights. I have horrible eye sight, and could not get a sight picture with Tech Sights on a 10/22 to save my life. However, these were really easy to use. I'm going to wait a while before trying it with a red dot sight.

Recoil was fine. It is a 9mm, so it was not bad by any stretch.

Trigger feels pretty good to me as far as break and pressure. If an aftermarket company releases a metal trigger (the actual trigger component), I'd strongly consider adding that.

The only thing that felt a bit odd was the magazine release. I'm going to add the Taccom one.

The surprising thing to me was that it would fit in a cheapie bag that I picked up for my shotgun. So, I'm not planning on picking up a specific bag for this firearm anytime soon.

I'm on the fence about magazines for this thing. Pmags for Glocks are pretty cost efficient compared to the cost of the Ruger SR9 mags. So, I have some research to do.

Eventually, I'll throw a picture of my three Rugers up on here.

Not pictured is my Ruger 10/22 Sporter model 1102. I have made some tweaks to it. So far, it has the Ruger BX Trigger, Volquartsen auto-bolt release, extractor, and then I just got in the Surestrike firing pin and bolt handle. It has the same scope that I put on the American Rimfire but on a Monstrum rail. I still need to zero in the scope for this one.

u/rben69 · 6 pointsr/gundeals

I have a 10/22 paired with this cheap Simmons scope. I am very happy with the setup. It's clearly not a top of the line scope but after dialing it in it holds well and has served its purpose pretty well for me. Should be good enough for the kids.

>Have you ever taken a self-defense class?

This is great advice. Especially if you're at college, you can likely take self-defense classes for free or for a very low charge.

Since it sounds like both you and your roommate are on the small side, I highly recommend you take something like Brazilian jiu jitsu, which teaches you how to defend yourself without having to be particularly fast, strong, or big.

You can probably look up martial arts courses on your campus web-site. Don't feel intimidated. I've gone to a few different martial arts courses and they're extremely safe.

It's sexist, but because you're a girl, you'll probably be treated with greater "care." That does NOT mean YOU won't learn what you need to defend yourself: feel free to go "all out" when practicing with the men in the course. I understood why sometimes I'd hit the mat hardest when squaring off with the few women there.

>would you consider carrying mace?

Mace is likely to be available at a sporting goods stores. You can also purchase it online from Amazon. If you've signed up for the free Amazon Prime service for students, then you can have it in your hands in two days for no extra charge.

This is the pepper spray I got for my girlfriend. Right now it's less than $8 and comes with a keychain. You can shop around on the site and find something you like.

Good luck.

And ditch the OEM scale that comes with the kit, go for this or this. A digital scale makes weighing your charges much easier and quicker.

Notice how they're exactly the same thing as the Hornady or Frankford Arsenal, except for fall less $$. Everything nowadays comes out of the same factories in the East, and resellers just slap their label on and charge whatever they think their targets are willing to pay. '

Rifle stuff:

  • Get a bundle of regular chamber flags, like [these]. There's no reason to spend that much on a chamber flag.
  • I'm a big fan of Holosun Red Dots, especially the motion activated circle dot (EoTech style reticle) models like the HS503GU. The smaller dot definitely helps with longer range-small target shots.
  • If you're going to stick with the TRS-25 (I've competed with one myself), go for the tall riser rather than the medium. Many competitors are moving to 2.04" optic mounts for a more upright head position, the one you linked works out to be 1.54". [Link]
  • The fancy charging handle is somewhere between nice-to-have and pointless. It all depends on whether your local clubs stage guns hot/cold, and whether you have to drop the mag and clear the chamber before dumping the gun. The 4 clubs I shoot at all have different rules for this.
  • I would skip the MS4 sling and the QD end plate. Single point is good in very specific circumstances, which don't exist in 3gun. Save the cash, and get an MS1. Note that you will rarely need or use a sling in 3gun. 2gun/combat type matches generally require one however.
  • Don't buy a BAD lever. Consider the PDQ bolt catch, or another option if you need to manipulate the bolt catch from the right side of the rifle. See here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4cwMNIogZ4
  • If you don't already have a bore snake and a cleaning rod, I would pick up both. Bore snake for simple bore maintenance, and cleaning rod to pound out a squib. If you shoot enough, you will eventually get a squib.
  • You will want to buy a handful of mags. Stick with PMAGs, there's no real reason to get anything else.

    Pistol stuff:

  • That holster may not work well with that belt. I would get an ALS version with mid or low ride mount. Or get a purpose made friction only holster. I use a 6930ALS mid ride-light bearing with a G19.
  • I have the same pistol mag caddys. No complaints from me, but if you really want to be competitive from the start, you may want something that allows adjustment for better indexing. Someone else will be able to recommend them for you.

    Shotgun:

  • Opening up the loading port will help, without a doubt.
  • That shell caddy is really nice. I personally use Taccom caddies due to their price.
  • Skip the fancy chamber flag
  • Might be worth looking into Taccom's match saver [link]. No opinion one way or another. Note that match saver's tend to be consumable items, as dumping the shotgun after using the match saver will sometimes break it.

    Transport Equipment:

  • You will get really annoyed carrying around your gear, ammo, snacks, and water. There's a reason that carts and wagons are so prevalent. I personally use a $40 collapsible wagon from Walmart, because I can't fit anything bigger in my car.

I've taken my kids to monster trucks twice now. Hearing protection isn't a luxury at one of those, it's a must. They easily reach 110dB. I've worked around loud noises most of my life, from live PA, to ships engine rooms, to automotive, and a fair few days at race tracks. I have a fair amount of personal experience with hearing loss, please wear hearing protection when you go to those shows. They will cause measureable loss if you don't.

If you get decent hearing protection you can still carry on a conversation with them in and they won't make you sweat or uncomfortable.

These are cheap, comfortable, reusable, and decent sound quality for the money. Conversation level sounds a little muddy compared to a $250 set of custom made plugs with concert filters, but that's a very high bar.

Why won't they work with the QX7? My QX7 takes a balance lead.... so no, it won't use the barrel connector, but that shouldn't matter.

As far as the charger goes, I'm not sure what that has off hand. For the longest time I've used this:
https://smile.amazon.com/Tenergy-Balance-Charger-Airsoft-Connector/dp/B004FGWY54/ref=sr_1_4

It charges just via the balance plug. Very slow, but never ran into an issue with it charging anything up to 4s.

As mentioned above though, charging at least LiPos can be dangerous. Most people bunker them or just make sure to watch them while they're charging. Joshua Bardwell had a good video about chargers that helped me understand more about charge rates and such.

I have the Impact Pro (https://www.amazon.com/Howard-Leight-Amplification-Electronic-R-01902/dp/B007BGSI5U) and it's very good in terms of NRR (30 dB NRR, good for use in an indoor range). The electronic mic/speakers are useful for talking with other people. I haven't tried the aux cord input on them, though, so if you plan on playing music through them I don't have any experience with that.

The biggest negative of the Impact Pro is the size. They are very large. I also find them pretty uncomfortable with glasses after about 30-45 min, but that's all headphones for me. The Razors are going to be a lot slimmer but with less NRR, of course.

One tray per faction, and can fit all my small ships, dials, cardboard ship tokens, plus both YT's, a Decimator and Shuttle, a Hound's Tooth, two Firesprays, and three Jumpmasters in three of the four trays (organized by faction). Maneuver templates, bases and pegs, bombs, and other non-faction stuff goes in the fourth.

Ghost goes in the top bin, of course. Nothing even remotely reasonable holds that business.

If I only need to take one squadron with me, like for a tournament, I can pack it all in a "Stanley Fatmax FMST14820 FatMax Deep Pro Organizer".

Edit: oh, repainted. Yeah, my suggestion has them rattling around a touch in the tournament box. I'm thinking simple bubble wrap bags, combined with generous dullcoat as a last painting step, for once I finish some repaints.

This is what I use for my nightstand pistol Amazon - GunVault

Works great, can open it in the dark and no finicky fingerprint scanner (Though they have one with that option). Goes great in a drawer.

This would work good under the bed or on a closet shelf.

As far as what to use for a rifle... something like This under the bed or behind the headboard maybe?

Is he a Vietnam veteran by chance? I knew an older guy who did something very similar to this, had undiagnosed PTSD from Vietnam and was convinved that one day charlie would be back to finish the job, hence a bolt action in the attic. Anyways, something like this is good for night stand or drawer use because it's quick and small enough to conceal such a place. Obviously someone could just walk away with the safe so you'd have to bolt/screw it to the stand to keep it secured.

Personally I have never dealt with this experience. However, I think there are a couple things you can do. I always try to not run in the same place two days in a row, not because of paranoia but mainly because it's nice to not run the same way everyday. The other thing I'd suggest is maybe getting pepper spray. I know neither of these options will necessarily help you forget the things you experienced but maybe they'll put your mind at ease a little while running knowing that you are a little safer.

That would be a great gift. You should get a scale that is specifically aimed at reloaders - that is, one that is set up to weigh in grains. It only needs to be precise to 0.1 grains. Anything "lab grade" is overkill for reloading.

You can choose to go with a balance beam scale like these:

RCBS

Hornady

There are also digital scales that are cheaper and easier to use, but less durable and lack the character of a balance beam scale:

Frankford Arsenal

Both are great edc knives. Chill is small but tough (not tiny though) perfect if you work in an office.
Skyline is a great overall. My work edc.

Buy 2 of either one, if you manage to break one you have a backup while the factory fixes the other.

How about the Kershaw Chill? It's thin, light and cheap, and I generally prefer it in every way to the Skyline.

u/legendofthesamurai · 4 pointsr/lockpicking

Plano boxes are wonderful. I currently have 31 smaller locks in one of these (mortise + KIK cylinders and smaller padlocks), and 33 larger locks in one of these (full-size padlocks and cam locks). The storage density is very high, and the boxes have held up quite well and are cheap to replace if they break. I have another deep plano box that holds most of my tools and equipment, and one drawer to hold overflow/oversize items.

As for labeling locks, I generally only label things that are part of a series. For instance, I have seven American Lock 5200s that I use for practice, and each one has a small piece of masking tape on the top of the lock with a number written on it. The associated keys are all on a ring, and each one has a piece of tape on the bow with the matching number. During practice I won't look at the number, so I don't know which lock I'm working on if I grab it at random.

For special locks (borrowed, challenge locks, etc.) I'll use metal-rim paper tags to note important information, but I currently have very few locks that meet this criteria and don't use them often.

u/cohare1019 · 4 pointsr/toddlers

So I specifically got new toys so they would be new and novel for the flight. New books, especially touch & feels books which my daughter loves, plus a couple all-time favorite books. For snacks, i found online the best idea that worked wonders - use a flat fishing tackle box - the kind that you can add dividers to ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E3C3NU/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ). Fill with all sorts of snacks, new and old favorites, and its the toddler sampler platter. Worked great and fit easily in my backpack. I just new if I packed a couple of her fave snacks, that would be the day she decided she didn't want them.

We also made sure to arrive at the airport early and left hubby with our stuff at the gate and her and I basically did laps up and down the terminal to burn as much energy as possible. And if you are flying an airline with first come first serve seating (like Southwest) try to sit by a family with a child of similar age. We sat directing in front of a family with a little girl about the same age as ours and after they both woke up from their naps, they entertained each other playing peek a boo around the seats.

Avoid Battlefoam. They're overpriced and the owner is a dick.

Check out KR Multicase. They're affordable, customizable, make X-Wing trays, and have both EU and NA friendly shipping.

Alternately, the Plano 1374 is a popular option, with a vast amount of space for not a lot of cash.

u/icepyrox · 4 pointsr/XWingTMG

Right now it looks like everything should fit into the core set boxes.

As for future: the Plano 1374 is so popular that the top reviews on Amazon are all about X-wing.

In a similar vein, I use the 732 which has 3 3700 trays (like the 1374 which has 4), but then 2 3600 trays (which are a little smaller, and I use for tokens and misc stuff).

I also have this version of the plano 5321 for tournaments. They also make a double sided version which I have also used before realizing it's a bit much (because I already had the 732). I still pack it for weekend vacations or hangar bay tournaments when I want to carry multiple lists, but not all my stuff.

You'll be fine with a decent rimfire scope. If you get serious about it you can invest later. I have two rimfire scopes, both around $40: a Simmons .22 Mag Fixed Power 4x32mm and a Simmons .22 Mag Variable POwer 3-9x32mm. They work fine for plinking with .22 and a friend of mine uses his for small game hunting.

More expensive scopes will work for .22, and are definitely nicer, but part of the expense is making them robust enough to withstand the recoil of much more powerful centerfire rounds.

u/SalishSailor · 4 pointsr/canadaguns

I have the Henry base model. It doesn't have all the fashion of the more expensive ones, but it's an excellent shooter and looks good. I prefer the sights on it to the annoying buckhorn ones on the frontier & golden boy. Might be worth saving the money and buying it (H001).

I also recently got a Marlin 795, w/ 25 round promags and a simmons 3-9x rimfire scope. Gun was about $200 new, mags were about $25, and the scope was around $60. It's the most pragmatic of all my 22s, ridiculously accurate, and if I was hunting small game with a 22 it would be the one (out of a handful of 22s I own) that I'd take. It's rugged, inexpensive, large mags, semi-auto in case you need a second shot, and shoots ridiculously well. I was threading the same bullet hole at 50 yards (bench shooting of course).

u/orntar · 4 pointsr/1022

I picked this up a few weeks ago.

Works real well. Seems like a good scope to me. I also got a nicer weaver rail and weaver scope rings to mount it.

u/Zefirus · 4 pointsr/1022

I can vouch for the Simmons .22 Mag scope (also available on Amazon). For the 30 bucks that you pay for it, it's an amazing little scope.

u/Hovsky · 4 pointsr/guns

I bought this scope for my .22 and fully expected the rings to suck. I overtightened one and completely separated the thingamajigger that the screw pushes against from the ring itself.

Basically what half-decent rings should I buy to mount it securely on my Savage 64?

u/BrainSturgeon · 4 pointsr/guns

About halfway through the afternoon my crosshairs suddenly shifted. I have a Simmons Truplex 3-9x32 scope on a Ruger 10/22. This is the first time I've ever shot this rifle or used this scope. The recoil on the 10/22 is practically non-existent so I don't see how this could happen.

How is this even possible?

u/DiscombobulatedDunce · 4 pointsr/guns

It should be a 3/8" dovetail on the top so anything that has a 3/8" dovetail mount will work with it. I use a simmons 3-9x32mm on my 795 that works pretty well.

or buy one of these

u/farkdog · 4 pointsr/reloading

What kind of ammo are you looking to reload? Straight-wall ammo, like most pistol calibers, is slightly easier to reload.

You can get into reloading for about $300-$500.

Here is what you will need:

  1. A reloading manual. This is a book of known good "recipes" for making cartridges for different kinds of powder and bullets. $19.99.
  2. A way to deprime spent brass (remove used primers).
  3. A set of dies. These resize the brass to correct dimensions, seat the bullet, and crimp the cartridge.
  4. Bullets.
  5. Brass.
  6. Primers.
  7. Powder.
  8. A scale for measuring powder $29.57.
  9. A bullet puller. This allows you to rework screwed-up cartridges $12.99.
  10. A press of some kind to run your cartridges through your dies.

Before you get started, I highly recommend you read the book, "The ABC's of Reloading":

    http://www.amazon.com/The-ABCs-Of-Reloading-Definitive/dp/0896896099/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1381839707&sr=8-2&keywords=abc%27s+of+reloading

You can check it out at a library if you want to save money. This book covers all kinds of reloading from pistol to rifle to shotgun cartridges.

If you are going to reload any kind of necked cartridge, like most rifle cartridges and some pistol cartridges, these cases stretch in length when firing due to the force being applied to the neck along the axis of the cartridge. As such they have to be trimmed back to proper length prior to reloading. This requires a case trimmer. You will generally not need a case trimmer for straight-walled cartridges.

    Reloading basically follows these steps:

  11. Deprime the brass.
  12. Resize external dimensions of brass.
  13. Bell case mouth to accept new bullet.
  14. Press in new primer.
  15. Charge cartridge with powder.
  16. Seat bullet.
  17. Crimp cartridge mouth.

There is a lot of debate as to whether single-stage, multi-stage, or progressive presses are best for new people.

A single-stage press has, as you would expect, a single stage. You have to swap out your dies as you move from each operation of reloading. The advantage here is cost and the fact that you can focus exclusively on each step of the process. Disadvantage is speed.

A multi-stage press has, as you would expect, multiple stages. This press holds all of your dies in one die plate, but you must manually change over from one die to the next. You still focus on each step of the process. Speed is a little faster as you do not have to re-set your dies every time you want to switch to a different die in the process.

A progressive press holds all your dies but automatically moves the cartridge from one station to the next with each stroke of the handle. The progressive press' advantage is speed. The disadvantage is that the user must keep an eye on multiple things happening simultaneously, most importantly the powder charging step.

I started off with a Lee Pro 1000, and it is still all I use. It is a bit twitchy in that you have to keep thumping the primer container to make sure the primer feed ramp stays full of primers or else it will start to mis-feed them. Also when the brass feed tubes start to run dry cartridges have a tendency to bounce off of the deck and scoot forward a bit getting caught under the die plate on the up-stroke, jamming the press. You have to push them back out of the way.

You will probably want to clean your brass before reloading it. It is not absolutely essential that you do so, but it requires a lot more force to ram dirty brass through your dies than clean brass. Also dirty brass can scratch up your dies, which then in turn pass those scratches on to your ammo. To clean your brass, you will want a tumbler and seperator.

If you are not using carbide dies you will need case lubricant and you will have to lubricate your brass before you run it through your dies. If you do not do this you will get brass stuck in your dies and you may have to send it to the factory to have it removed.

Note that I used Amazon links for the above but obviously shop around. Also I referenced mostly Lee items but likewise shop around. Lee is usually the cheapest but can be "twitchy" compared to more expensive models.

Do not randomly buy reloading components (powder, bullets, primer) and then try and find a recipe. It's much easier to find out what kind of powder is available to you locally and then find a recipe that uses that powder and buy bullets to match it. If you randomly buy whatever powder and bullets you can find you may have difficulty finding an existing recipe for that combination and will have to find something "close", which as a newbie I don't recommend. It's much easier to work with a known recipe for a specific powder and bullet and primer.

Always start with the lowest recommended charge and work up from there if you find it necessary. If you are building precision ammunition for optimal accuracy you will "work up a load" to find exactly how much powder for any given bullet gives the best accuracy for any given firearm. If you are just building plinking ammunition then use the lowest listed charge that reliably cycles the action of your firearm.

The most critical part of reloading is the powder charging step. If you build ammunition with too much powder in it it can explode and destroy the firearm and injure or even kill you. If you put too little or no powder in it you can make a "squib" where the primer will push the bullet out of the cartridge into the barrel, creating an obstruction, and if you fire the gun again it can explode, again with the risk of destroying the gun and injuring the shooter. It is important to eyeball every cartridge to make sure it is charged properly. And do spot-checks every 10th round or so with your scale to confirm the load.

You need to invest in something. Hell, even earbuds are better than nothing. Don't take your hearing from granted. Even 5 shots a day on unprotected ears will cause damage. You won't feel it at first, hell you might not even notice it for a couple years, but its there. It's happening. Maybe you lose the high and low pitches, maybe not.

Also, I think the 'irresponsible gun owner' comes from a really high standard of safety from most people. Ear and eye protection has an extremely high priority.

Edit: I know a lot of people don't like the GIANT EAR MUFFS that every single range ever hands to you, and I don't know what your preferences are, but you could look into something like this. I don't know anything about those ones in particular so you would get better recommendations in /r/guns or some other related subreddit.

If anyone gives you shit for wearing ear plugs they are either a teenager or else they won't be able to hear anything you say back to them.

I'm in my 30s and years of band practice, going to shows, shooting guns and a few years in a factory really fucked my hearing, mostly because when I was a teenager I never wore them.

Go to a sporting goods store or section and get some range plugs; they'll protect your hearing but won't block out as much clarity as regular foam plugs will

This is my setup. Setup/Teardown of each play session isn't troublesome anymore.

-2 Counter Trays. I can store most of the enemy standees and some of the random tokens like treasure chests and traps.

-Plano 23620-01. This is where I store all of the tokens like XP, Damage, Conditions, etc. This is also where the rest of the big enemy standees go (except the huge dragon). I can also fit random tokens like Doors, Bookshelves/Coffins, etc.

-Smead Expanding File. This is where I organize all the tile/map pieces. Everything fits comfortably except the "T" pieces.

-Avery Binder and BCW Pocket Pages. This binder acts like the Item Shop and can easily be opened to show available items. I even covered locked items with construction paper to be "unlocked" when Prosperity reaches a certain level.

-Ultra Pro Deck Boxes. I store everyone's Class cards here. The bottom compartment holds the Class/HP/XP tokens, Items purchased, and Attack Modifier Deck.

-Construction Paper. As a solution to organize/retrieve the needed enemy Stats Cards and Enemy Ability Decks, I created a sleeve out of construction paper for the Stat Card, leaving enough room to fit the respective Ability Deck as well. I sleeve most of the cards, so I put all 8 ability cards into a "City/Event sleeve", then throw it into the Stat Card sleeve I just made. Hope that made sense.

I use a Plano 3620 box for Castles of Burgundy which works really nicely. I have the mixed tiles in their own compartments and draw from them randomly without looking at what I'm drawing. It's faster & less fiddly than having a bunch of bags.

Here's a photo. I think since this was taken I spread things out even more to fill all the compartments, so there's more space to mix things up and get your fingers in.

I bought http://www.amazon.com/Plano-1374-4-By-System-Tackle/dp/B000E3FKTO but it didn't help much with the map tiles. My first play session I was very frustrated at how long it took me to build the map with the map tiles just thrown in the box.

My solution was to organize the map tiles in numerical order and put them in groups of 10 in ziploc bags. That way when I'm building the maps, I can just follow the number guide at the bottom and pull out the pieces in order then build.

I've got this scope, Simmons .22Mag - It holds zero pretty damn well even after a couple hundred rounds, and I don't treat it nice either... and still cheap.

u/JMTaco · 3 pointsr/1022

It’s actually a cheap Simmons from Amazon. It surprisingly nice and clear! It feels pretty sturdy as well. It’s an awesome scope for the price!

u/WillPukeForFood · 3 pointsr/videos

I think this is a better solution. Mount it under your bed. If the boogeyman comes in the night, reach down, key in the code with your fingertips, and the door springs open, releasing Mr. Sig and Mr. Sauer to go to work.

u/Lampwick · 3 pointsr/IAmA

As a locksmith who'd dealt with numerous fingerprint reading systems, including those cheap Chinese ones on gun safes, I highly recommend something else. Service calls on devices with bad fingerprint readers outnumber service calls on similar devices with mechanical locks by 5 to 1, easy. I'd recommend something like a Gunvault electronic pushbutton, or a mechanical lock box based on the 5-button Simplex lock like this one. For a long gun safe, biometric is OK so long as there's a keypad override.

Basically, I wouldn't trust my life to one of those hinkey fingerprint readers.

This is what my wife and I both have. We really like them. We bought ours at Cabela's but they're cheaper in Amazon.

u/MilkChugg · 3 pointsr/SeattleWA

Get it if you feel that your life is worth protecting. You don't need to be paranoid, but it's always good to be prepared. If you're in a situation where you feel that your safety or your life is in danger, use it - it is effective. If that time comes, and I hope it doesn't, you are solely responsible for the outcome of that situation and I'm assuming you want it to work out in your favor. The police won't be there to protect you and people on the street will likely not intervene.

This is the one that I bought for myself and my wife. I'd also recommend getting the practice spray to try it out a few times and feel confident using it.

And disregard the people talking about how safe Seattle is and mocking others for being prepared. Your safety and your preparedness is more important than what they think.

u/eventhough · 3 pointsr/AskReddit

I bought my girlfriend pepper spray from Big 5. This model:

http://www.amazon.com/SABRE-Compact-Pepper-Spray-Pink/dp/B001CZ9MRY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1279312717&sr=8-1

Yes, it's pink. She carries it in her hand whenever she is in a scary area of the city (SF). Thankfully she has never had to use it. Before I bought it I watched some YouTube videos to make sure it actually works. Apparently military and police training programs use it for "OC Training". Check it out:

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type=&search_query=oc%20training&aq=f

Pepper spray is scary stuff. It works.

So this review on Amazon is what my buying guide will consist of. My apologies for formatting, I am on mobile.

-----
I'm new to reloading, but I shoot a lot so instead of doing what every beginner should and buy a single stage press I saved up a little and got the AP press due to the fact I knew I would use it a lot. But after it came I quickly realized it was far more technical than I expected. I found out there were a lot of parts I still needed and a lot more money that still needed to be spent. I was fine with it bet I knew I would have to save up for a little bit to get it all. But after about 100 hours of reloading YouTube videos and four months I was able to actually start reloading. Wishing I had a guide right off the bat to tell me what I need and why I ended up making one for any other new beginner. So here it is.

Disclaimer: Do not follow my advice blindly, do your research on each piece of equipment. The prices I have stated are not set in stone, they were what I spent. I would advise you to shop around to get the best deals

What you still need:

--Hornady Lock N Load Auto-Progressive Reloading Press
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000PD01NS/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
$462.64
Notes: Does not have to be this press

--Hornady Lock N Load Ap & Projector Shell Plate
http://www.hornady.com/store/Choose-Shell-Plate-by-Number/
$41.33
Notes: Each shell plate is for a different caliber, when you buy make sure you get the correct plate for the caliber you are reloading. Here is the guide http://www.hornady.com/assets/files/shell_holder.pdf

--Hornady Shell Holder
http://www.hornady.com/store/Choose-Shell-Holder-by-Number/
$5.00
Notes: Each shell holder is for a different caliber, when you buy make sure you get the correct holder for the caliber you are reloading. Although RCBS makes a similar looking holder, it will NOT fit in the Hornady setup. Here is the guide http://www.hornady.com/assets/files/shell_holder.pdf

--Reloading Dies
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000PD6PO2/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
$43.89
Notes: All reloading dies from all companies are universal to each other's presses. So you don't have to stick to Hornadys dies (I do because I like them)

--Digital Scale
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002BDOHNA/ref=oh_details_o08_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
$29.14
Notes: Digital scales are a little more expensive bet worth it for the time you save

--Digital Caliper
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002JFMIO/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
$10.60
Notes: Digital calipers are convenient for speed but if money is tight you can go traditional

--Hornady One Shot Gun Cleaner & Dry Lube
http://www.amazon.com/Hornady-Shot-Cleaner-DynaGlide-Aerosol/dp/B000LC9YM2/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1375560230&sr=1-1&keywords=hornady+gun+cleaner

$13.44
Notes: This or any case lube is an absolute need or your rounds will get stuck in the die. This one is cool because you don't have to wipe it off after you deprime and resize so if you have an AP bench like mine you can just keep going.

--Case Trimmer
http://www.amazon.com/Hornady-50140-Camlock-Case-Trimmer/dp/B000PD6QJ6/ref=sr_1_7?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1375561942&sr=1-7&keywords=case+trimmer
$88.99
Notes: This will trim the case down to size. Needed because after firing the case expands

--Cartridge Reloading Guide
http://www.amazon.com/Hornady-Edition-Handbook-Cartridge-Reloading/dp/B00A95QWGM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1375563579&sr=8-2&keywords=Reloading+guide
$39.80
Notes: Tells you the specifics of each round. There is a different manual for each projectile. So if you use Hornady bullets you will use their guide, RCBS you you'd use theirs, etc.
----------------------------------------------------
What you need to clean the brass:

--Case Tumbler
http://www.amazon.com/Hornady-Case-Tumbler-110-Volt/dp/B000PD1XE4/ref=sr_1_17?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1375559938&sr=1-17&keywords=media+tumbler
$83.58
Used to remove the carbon from the rounds. I advise not to deprime before use because the media will get stuck in the primer hole.

--Tumbling Media
http://www.amazon.com/Frankford-Arsenal-287178-Brass-Cleaning/dp/B001GX8DS6/ref=sr_1_4?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1375561385&sr=1-4&keywords=tumbling+media

yes. i also got mine from amazon.

the parts that need improvement are discussed in the customer reviews near the bottom of the page. powder dispenser and scale are the items i remember getting lukewarm reviews. those parts are cheap to upgrade. so no worry.

you need dies for the caliber that you are reloading.

for some reason i have 2 sets of .223 dies. i know i purchased one, i'm not sure if the other came with the kit.

i purchased a 2" bench top cut off saw [$32]

a jig to cut my cases [$13] 300blk

a case length guage [$10] 300blk

ammo loading tray [$7]

dies [$39] for each caliber

digital caliper [$16]

frankford scale [$32]

frankford bullet puller [$16]

tumber kit [$75]

i spent a good month or so on /r/reloading before i actually purchased anything.

i asked questions and made a shopping list.

those guys are very helpful

research what you actually need for the caliber / bullet grain you want to reload before you buy anything.

double and triple check what powder you need as well. it could save your life.

i kinda over did it with supplies

haven't opened half the boxes yet.

Hi. I agree with all the other posts about looking into monitoring for evidence to stop the stalker using the police.

The only thing I'd add is that everyone seems to have overlooked your personal safety here. Hopefully one of these will be near you.

And I'd also look into to carrying something for your personal safety. Something like this would give you a good bang for your buck.

The Kershaw Chill is a pretty decent cheap knife. I got mine for $16 on sale and it's only $20 on amazon right now.

u/xbuzzbyx · 3 pointsr/knives

I was thinking something similar.
1 Ontario 8848 RAT
2 Kershaw Chill (A bit slimmer, lighter, and sleeker than the Clash)
3 CRKT Drifter G10

I just bought the Chill, and I love it! At 1.9 oz, it's half the weight of the Clash. The locking system is nice and smooth. I loosened the tension a little so I don't need to flick my wrist, just a quick trigger pull on the tab. So far, nothing I can complain about.

u/patheticguy12 · 3 pointsr/ar15

I found your charging handle for almost $10 cheaper. You could cut the cost of the charging handle significantly by getting a one-handed one. I used the exact same lower build kit for my first AR. The lower build kit does not come with any tools. You're going to need some tools, such as a Castle Nut Wrench and a punch set

This is kind of optional, but you're going to need a spacer if you want to use iron sights (or else the iron sights will be blocked by the red dot sight. The spacer also helps a great deal is making it more comfortable, so your head isn't awkwardly tilted, obviously this will depend on your eye height.

Don't get discouraged if this seems confusing, if all else fails, watch an ar15 building tutorial and everything will be much clearer. Here's another tutorial. Good luck.

I worked on a solo car and this is brilliant. Clips to the passenger seatbelt so it doesnt fly around when you brake/accellerate.
Huge enough to fit all you need. Approrpiate number of pockets and pouches without being too over-the-top.

Came with a nice little divider for documents ect.

Has lasted me... ohhh... 6+ years now.

Alternately, heaps of medics used these Mil Tec Backpacks as both personal kitbags and as ALS kits, and highly reccomended. Heaps of space for stuff and not too bulky. Plus the nondescript backpack style means you can carry it around without screaming “copper”

Check out UTG scopes. They make great (for airsoft)(I have one of their red dot sights and it's really high quality) products that are designed for real steal weapons. So while they might be a budget brand for real firearms they are great for airsoft because there is no recoil or anything that would cause your sight to lose it's zero.

I know the one I linked is more expensive than the one you posted about but they have some that are less expensive than the one I linked.

I use the MSA Sordin supreme pro-X with gel-cups, but they're a bit pricey. https://www.amazon.com/MSA-Sordin-Supreme-Pro-Electronic/dp/B00QV33ZRK

Others swear by something like these: https://www.amazon.com/Honeywell-Amplification-Electronic-Earmuff-R-01902/dp/B007BGSI5U

Peltor got some as well: https://www.amazon.com/3M-Peltor-Tactical-Sport-Earmuff/dp/B000Q04MRG

I like the Sordin because A) They're comfortable, B) the profile makes them not be too much in the way for a proper cheekweld, and C) I think they have pretty damn good sound compared to the Peltor that I tried (it's easier to distinguish sound direction I think).

u/StuLax18 · 3 pointsr/bodybuilding

Yeah I've never had issues. Apparently they are set to only magnify voices and stuff, not gunshots, and you can adjust the volume. I think mine sometimes don't seal perfectly over my sunglasses or shooting glasses though.

Relative to other things gun related they are cheap. These are the really popular ones https://www.amazon.com/Howard-Leight-Amplification-Electronic-R-01526/dp/B001T7QJ9O/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=ear+protection&qid=1562612210&s=gateway&sr=8-4

I got these, and in hindsight I might want something lower profile like the ones above. Sometimes rifle shooting it messes with your cheek weld. I think the main difference is they block more sound: https://www.amazon.com/Howard-Leight-Amplification-Electronic-R-01902/dp/B007BGSI5U/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=howard+leight&qid=1562612324&s=gateway&sr=8-4

u/ctsims · 3 pointsr/MAguns

Howard Leight makes two electronic muffs, the one linked by /u/farglesmirt and another, larger pair.

The bigger ones are 30NRR and the smaller more portable ones are 22NRR, which is a big difference on their own (10db = 2X power in the sound wave). If you are shooting indoors you should definitely always double up hearing protection anyway (33NRR plugs are cheap and plentiful), and I think with doubled up hearing pro, the NRR of the weaker layer is less relevant. Just in case you wanted an option with more protection, or you might want to wear the muffs on their own if you are outside or something similar, figured I'd mention it.

u/FoosYou · 3 pointsr/gundeals

DPMS Oracle for $399 (after rebate) blows this away in terms of quality and value. Throw on a $30 TRS-25 Red Dot and you're good to go.

u/eskimoexplosion · 3 pointsr/guns

If you're planning on spending more than $150 just save your money and save up for a premium optic like an Aimpoint, EOTech, Leupold, or Trijicon. If you're looking in the 100-150 range, Holosun makes a great solar/battery powered red dot that holds zero well and has a 30-50k hour battery life(when it's actually in battery mode). If you're looking for a more traditional optic, Bushnell and Nikon have good 1-4x optics. If you're looking for more magnification a Leupold
is within your reach. Vortex has strong offerings in both red dots and traditional optics if you're willing to spend a just bit more. If you're looking in the 50-150 range I'd look into a TRS-25 or Primary Arms for a red dot. For a traditional scope i'd stick with a fixed power optic like this Bushnell, you're going to be hard pressed to find a decent magnified optic with good glass in this price range, fixed power scopes are simpler in construction and offer at least better durability but i'd consider sticking to a non magnified optic under the $100 range. If you're trying to spend even less than $50 there is apparently a very well made $20 Fieldsport which is worth a search on youtube. I wouldn't consider anything magnified under $50 but this is a good range for a cool carry handle with elevation adjustment and retro look. Shooting irons can be more fun than using optics sometimes.

u/canadafolyfedawg · 3 pointsr/gundeals

For the look, i say go for it. Remember to pick up a small red dot and its good to go. It feels kind of cheap, but looks pretty good.

I reccomend this red dot, its the best bang for the buck for 22 clones that you dont plan on beating to death.

This is a nice quality inexpensive mess kit (no spork)

This is a really nice quality flashlight!

Here is a good quality pocket knife.

When I bought my Kershaw Chill it was around $15. I carry it more than my expensive stuff.

I've suggested the Kershaw Chill earlier, but now second that Buck 110 LT.

Such an awesome recommendation!

The Bushnell TRS-25 with this riser. Works great, real steel quality too. For BB protection get this, you'll need to glue it on or shim it with teflon tape so it doesn fall off

u/gooknezz · 2 pointsr/guns

To expand on what /u/Lost_Thought said, the link you included has the standard mount that will result with a very close mount, like this or this.

If you want it mounted to better co-witness with your iron sights, you will need a rise mount that will end up looking like this.

The medium riser will co-witness with your irons. The high riser will give you a lower 1/3 co-witness.

These are the only two items (sight and one riser) you would likely need to purchase.

u/AllArmsLLC · 2 pointsr/ar15

A TRS-25 with a UTG High riser will give you lower 1/3 co-witness.

u/MisterNoisy · 2 pointsr/guns

If you're in the continental US, I've got a spare TRS-25 laying around that you can have. You'll want to add a riser, but UTG makes a solid cheap one:

Lower 1/3 cowitness

u/WFPPtheSound · 2 pointsr/guns

If you do get the bushnell red dot definately get this with it UTG Riser

It will allow you to co witness with the irons. It's cheap and works just fine for the 22 (doesn't need to be bomb proof)

u/V0RT3XXX · 2 pointsr/ar15

I just use surefire ear plugs. I've tried multiple ear muffs but they just have too many issues for me:

  • Can't get a proper seal since I'm wearing glasses with thick frame
  • Incredibly uncomfortable to wear because of glasses. Some muff have really strong band and create a lot of pressure against the glasses frame against my face
  • Can't get a proper cheek weld since the muff would be riding on the stock. The stock would either push the muff out of the way or I can't put my head down close enough
u/AFlockofTurtles · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

These have been good for me and work when going to a the range too.

SureFire EP4 Sonic Defenders Plus filtered Earplugs, triple flanged design, reusable, Black, Medium https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004DH65RI/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_BNo4wbP924AVW

u/notheretomakefrainds · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

Not to hijack your guys convo, but I highly recommend a pair of these . Nice having something that's reusable (a pair last me about 5 months +/- depending on how much I ride) and they work great with a Sena to still let you hear your music while cancelling out wind and other non-essential outside noise

Others swear by disposables. The best option is really custom molded plugs to your ears, but I don't trust myself not eventually losing them enough to take that route

Whatever you go with, watch a quick video on how to properly insert ear plugs. It is astonishing how many people don't know how to put them in right!!

u/IceCreamFeeling2 · 2 pointsr/guns

Find something that's heavy at the end, heavier than your rifle, and shoulder it a bunch of times just like you would your rifle. Do this for a few weeks and you'll increase your strength.

As to hearing protection, I recommend doubling up with equipment like this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001T7QJ9O/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004DH65RI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You'll still be able to hear perfectly without doing damage to your ears.

u/Wooden_Starbuck · 2 pointsr/woodworking

Let's see. I'm young, and attempting to care more about PPE in the shop (with varying success) so I'll do my best. I've got three systems I use somewhat regularly. An old pair of Stihl chainsaw muffs, some SureFire Ear Defenders, and one finger in my ear with the other pressed into my shoulder. I like and hate both of the products for a plethora of reasons, so here goes.

Stihl-
Effective when worn with limited protection. Put on some glasses and a respirator, and the noise very easily starts to get through some gaps. They're durable as all get out. The pads have held up well, there's no cracks, and these things haven't had an easy life. They're alright, but they're bulky and temperamental, resulting in me largely choosing glasses or a face shield over the discomfort of the muffs.

SureFire-
They're fantastic at blocking sound, wonderfully comfortable, and don't interfere with other protective gear. I've used them for shooting, sanding, driving nails in a confined space, and other things, with no complaints in terms of noise. Here's the thing. They're pretty easy to lose, and freaking nasty. There's probably a good way to clean them, but I don't know it. One use, and they certainly don't look appealing. Better pray you don't drop them, because then you're dealing with shoving sawdust or dirt right up your ear, in you don't spend a few minutes trying to clean them, first.

One thing I will say, and this was said well by Alec Steele, a blacksmith over on the youtube, is to Stop It With The Colors! I don't care if they're blue, green, pink, yellow, red, white, or any other color for that matter. They won't be that color for long. They'll start looking dirty, and as minor as it may be, sometimes it's hard to put on a dirty set of PPE. Granted, it's mostly a problem if it's a loaner or lesson set of ear protectors, but still. Also, no white foam on the inside. Sweat and dirt make that stuff super unappealing.

u/CrossShot · 2 pointsr/guns

Electronic ear buds? Not really, but these are on my wishlist

u/cypherpunks · 2 pointsr/AskElectronics

Charging multiple Li-ion cells is complicated; you need to balance the cells as you charge them.

But there are plenty of chargers out there, particularly by model car racers, for the job. You just need to hook up the endpoints and the balancing leads.

Most hobby Lithium polymer (Lipo) chargers will, if you dig into the specifications, also charge Lithium-ion cells (which want a slightly lower charge oltage, 4.1 vs. 4.2 V). For example, this $20 charger will charge Li-ion.

u/Mcfly56 · 2 pointsr/airsoft

With the battery and charger you have on there they don't match. you can't use a nimh charger on a lipo you'll blow it up.

If you're going to use a lipo battery I use this charger

https://www.amazon.com/Tenergy-Cells-Li-PO-Balance-Charger/dp/B004FGWY54/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1510907253&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=airsoft+lipo+charger&psc=1

also with that battery it will only work if your gun is front wired (the plug for the battery is in your handguard) if its rear wired it wont work because you need the battery in the buffer tube.

as far as the gun sack you can pick up a hard rifle case at walmart for under 25$ and it will keep your rifle safe and you can lock it with padlocks if you'd like

I also really wouldn't recommend a paintball mask either cause they usually fog unless you get a really nice one like a dye i4/i5. they are also almost impossible to aim down sights with. I use arena flak jaks as I just pop out the vents and they never fog and you can get cheap replacement lens on ebay

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Arena-Flakjak-Tactical-Eye-Protective-Goggles-Tan-Airsoft-Paintball-Tactical-New/253221912379?epid=1001535811&hash=item3af533bf3b:g:sNEAAOSwCmNZxI2I

others recommend the pyramix goggles as they are lower profile but I just find it easy for them to move off my eyes by just moving facial muscles

https://www.amazon.com/Pyramex-I-Force-Sporty-Anti-Fog-Goggle/dp/B006WPSDXS/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1510907577&sr=1-1-spell&keywords=pyramix+i+force

with those if you want lower face protection most people recommend the one tigris as it makes it easy to aim down your sights

https://www.amazon.com/OneTigris-Comfortable-Adjustable-Protective-Available/dp/B01MTS1611/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1510907635&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=one+tigris+mesh+mask&psc=1

bamf mags I've heard many different things on them so i guess it just depends on your gun if they fit they will be good if not kwa k120s, g&p skullfrog, and pts epm are all good mid caps and those go in order from least to most expensive

u/M52engi · 2 pointsr/airsoft

This one is pretty good if you're just looking for a bare-bones charger, but it lacks a discharger feature which is useful for LiPOs:

https://www.amazon.com/Tenergy-Balance-Charger-Airsoft-Connector/dp/B004FGWY54/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=lipo+balance+charger&qid=1567128039&s=gateway&sr=8-6

For a little more you can get this one with the discharge feature, but I have never owned this one:

https://www.amazon.com/Haisito-Battery-Balance-Charger-Discharger/dp/B07QRQT3LC/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=lipo+balance+charger&qid=1567128147&s=gateway&sr=8-4

u/Eisenstein · 2 pointsr/AskElectronics

I agree with /u/1Davide here entirely. Do not blow off warnings about messing with unprotected Li-Ion cells.

I have seen them ignite nearby materials merely by having the terminals shorted by a split second contact with a screwdriver blade. If they end up igniting themselves (not hard to do btw), good luck putting out that fire with anything but a wheelbarrow full of sand.

Stick to protected, pre-built packs and chargers from non-shady distributors unless you know what you are doing (or care to learn the hard way).

If you are looking for a cheap but reliable charger for DIYing your own pack, though, I'd recommend this one:

u/Ruschnav · 2 pointsr/airsoft

The basic bitch one

Hasn't failed me in the 2 years I've owned it and X amount of charges.

u/Pathian · 2 pointsr/electronic_cigarette

You're not really going to find a simple balance charger that will do 2 packs simultaneously.

Balance charging 1 pack at high current is a power hungry operation that requires a microcontroller, so invariably pretty much any charger that will do 2 packs at once is going to be fairly intensive and expensive.

When people buy lipo boxes from me, I generally recommend one of these.

http://www.amazon.com/Tenergy-Balance-Airsoft-Battery-Charger/dp/B004FGWY54/

As long as the keep the slider switch on "LiPo", they're fairly impossible to screw up, and they're cheap. So you can buy two if you need to.

u/Rgnxsupreme · 2 pointsr/airsoft

Okay awesome. I just bought the Classic Army Skirmish EC-2 and it has a Deans / Small Tamiya connector.

A couple more things:

So does the 2S and 3S mean a larger battery with longer life? And will that fit in my stock?

What is a good and affordable balance charger that you would recommend? I'm just starting out so trying to ball on a budget. I'm an amazon guy so looking at this one

u/MattyB-02 · 2 pointsr/airsoft

Pick up 2 of the batteries ( if you have amazon prime it will be cheaper than evike). This should be more than enough to get you through a game day.

Theres enough of the wire sticking out that I can bring the charger, to the battery.

u/DoYouLikeMyName27 · 2 pointsr/airsoft

Well, you could get a 7.4 or 9.6 butterfly. Both would have about the same battery life, the 9.6 would have like 100 more MaH. But, as I'm sure other people will mention, the 7.4 will be cheaper if you order from the hobby king US warehouse. The only thing I noticed about that particular website is they ship their batteries with odd connectors sometimes. This one seems alright though. For a charger, I like to stick to very basic ones. I have this one and it works fine.

Edit: I dun goofed. Don't get the battery I linked. It's too big for a crane stock.

I bought this black MOLLE assault pack in my junior year of undergrad. It's similar to the kind modern infantry/paramilitary use, and just as tough. I've found it to be an excellent bag for a fraction of the price of regular backpacks, and have used it for years without any signs of wear. Here's a few features I like about it:

  • Only around $33
  • Very tough, as previously mentioned
  • Can be expanded as much as 36 L, or compressed down to the size of a school pack. I used this for school, as luggage, and as hiking gear. Pretty versatile
  • 2 large compartments, with a mesh subcompartment and a waterproof enclosure in the rear one
  • lots of miscellanous pockets in the smaller compartments, for pens and other minutiae

Some people don't care much for the military-ish look, but I don't mind it since the black color subdues that vibe. It also has that modular MOLLE function (adding on other MOLLE gear onto the meshwork) if you need that sort of thing.

UTG Bugbuster is popular. Comes with rings which is something you don't get when you get into scopes approaching $200. Everything is custom and pricey up there.

It's 3-9x power, illuminated mil-dot reticle, adjustable parralax, 1/4MOA turrets that are zero resettable and lockable. Hell of a deal for the money. I've got one on my takedown and I love it.

As before, the Scorpion EVO3A1's a truly epic gun; you should definitely read the website ASG put together for it which explains what's so special about it. I put together a quick list for a friend who was thinking about getting one a while back; here's what was on it:

Status | Product | Cost | Comment
---|---|----|----
Mandatory | ASG CZ Scorpion EVO3A1 | $400 | Perfectly suited for both CQB and field play, this is one of the best AEGs in the world at present.
Optional | ASG Speed Trigger | $30 | Some don't like the plastic trigger supplied with the gun. This CNC-machined-from-billet alternative is tougher and has a shorter pull.
Optional | ASG Steel Spring Guide | $20 | The gun now comes with a steel spring-guide as standard,
Optional | ASG Mainspring (M90/M120) | $15 | ASG offer two strengths of spring for the EVO3A1. One (likely M120, equating to ~400FPS) will be supplied with the gun; you may want to buy the other (M95, equating to ~330FPS) so you're able to play at most common site limits. The spring can be changed in a few seconds with just an Allen key. The EVO3A1 is also compatible with regular AEG springs as long as they are not shorter than the factory ones (this can cause premature engagement).
Mandatory | ASG 75rd Midcap Magazine (x3) | $60 | Three plus the one supplied with the gun for a combat load of four. If you want, you can pick up another three for a total of seven.
Mandatory | Turnigy Nano-Tech 11.1V (3S) 25~50C LiPo Battery (x3) | TBA | The gun has a built-in FCU with MOSFETs, and is designed (and should be) to run on 11.1V LiPo batteries. Although ASG make a slightly larger battery they're more than twice the price and have an inferior Coulomb rating. You'll only need two batteries for a day's play, but for $11 each you may as well pick up a spare.
Mandatory | Turnigy E3 Compact 2S/3S LiPo Balance Charger | $13 | This is a simple balance charger. It won't do clever things like charge to storage voltage, or fast-charge, or discharge, and it will only charge 2S/3S LiPos - but it is very cheap and simple to operate.
Mandatory | Turnigy DLUX LiPo Balancer/Tester | $12 | This balances the individual cells of the battery (preventing one from dropping below the 3.0V minimum) and will tell you the remaining capacity of the entire battery and the voltages of the individual cells (likewise).
| Total: | $553 |

I also included a short list of accessories for how I would personally accessorise the gun - this isn't necessarily the best way to do it and your choices are very much up to you:

Status | Product | Cost | Comment
---|---|----|----
Optional | Xcortech X3300W Advanced BB Control System | $125 | A truly amazing system that incorporates round counter, tracer and chronograph functionality. It will tell you how many rounds are left in the magazine, which is especially useful with the Scorpion's relatively low-capacity mid-caps. Watch it in action here.
Optional | ASG 18-14mm Thread Adapter | $17 | Required to fit most airsoft suppressors (including the X3300W) to the EVO3A1.
Optional | Bushnell TRS-25 | $75 | The best budget red-dot scope on the market and very well-suited to the compact EVO3A1. The TRS-25 Hi-Rise ($90) comes with a tall mount (there are better-looking options available) which will allow you to get a good sight picture even with a poor cheek weld owing to lower-face protection, and will also allow you to mount the X3300W's command/display unit on the top rail without obscuring the sight picture.
Optional | Element M300AA | $40 | A clone of the SureFire M300 Mini Scout Light, modified to use AA (rather than CR123A) batteries.
Optional | Element Tape Switch | $20 | A clone of the SureFire SR-07 rail-mounted tape switch - lets you put the switch where your thumb is, on the other side of the gun to the flashlight.
Optional | MagPul Rail Light Mount (Right) | $30 | Mounts the flashlight up and out of your way, and fits in with the XTMs. Minus the crappy optic, substituting the crap flashlight for the M300AA, and plus the X3300W and rail panels it would look a bit like this.
Optional | MagPul XTM Enhanced Rail Panels | $8 | Protects the rails and makes the gun more comfortable to hold.
Optional | MagPul XTM Hand Stop Kit | $20 | Protects the rails and makes the gun more comfortable to hold.
Optional | ASG Scorpion EVO3A1 Soft Carry Case | $40 | Usually neglected by airsofters, and usually to their cost, this is suitable for travel and storage.

You'd need to add 4x AAA batteries (for the tracer/chronograph unit), 3x AA batteries (for the command/display unit and for the flashlight), polycarbonate lens protectors for the flashlight and the RDS, and you'd be done.

For $200 I recommend this one:

for $20 I recommend this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Y3SZEJC/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I own both, and so far both have been reliable, you'd think the $20 one would be a POS but it is surprisingly well built. And if you aim it at a mirror in dim light the red dot in the scope is almost impossible to see... meanwhile, the Votex one is very obvious, almost like you're pointing a laser towards someone, so for stealth the cheaper one is better. But for build quality and toughness I am guessing the Votex is superior.

Holosun micro red dots are very lightweight and have battery lives approaching aim points. Almost all are sub-$200 and some models have solar panels that will work in daylight even without a battery. My brother has been using one on an AR for two or three years with no issues.

  1. First off, Get one of these to hold your spare parts and tools
    http://www.amazon.com/Plano-23600-01-Stowaway-Adjustable-Dividers/dp/B000E39T50/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1408405176&sr=8-3&keywords=plano+storage+box

  2. Get a set of Hex Screwdrivers. Just search amazon or your preferred online or local hobby shop.

  3. RPM A-Arms. Those were the first things I broke on my Slash 4x4. They're about $10 for a set of 2 and you'll want to upgrade them all eventually.

  4. If you're off-roading, get extra spur gears because a rock will eventually get in there and chew it up.

  5. Miscellaneous set of hex screws and extra body clips.

    As for a charger and Lipo battery;
I have a Duratrax Onyx charger. Not sure of the exact model. There are better more expensive ones, but this one gets the job done.

I just ordered batteries from here http://spcracingbatteries.com/
Only ran them once, but I've heard plenty of good things about them.

I'm sure some others will chime in and give you some advice. Good luck and have fun with your new rc car!

I use a whole lot of plastic organizers kinda like this of varying sizes for small parts.

Larger quantities of parts sit around in the shipping material they came in, and tools live in 3 or 4 toolboxes.

Works quite well for me and is mostly compact.

u/innoxenxe · 2 pointsr/DnD

Links to materials:

  • Plano 2-3700: amazon ~$9.08
  • Feldherr FS010B: amazon (5pcs) ~$15.99, amazon (10pcs) ~$16.99

    About the container:

Using a fishing stowaway tackle box and some foam, it's really easy to make a neat little container to hold all your TTRPG stuff. You can stack more or less layers of foam inside divisions to make it easier to reach (the potions have 3 layers) or to make more room for bigger things (the d20s only have 1 layer). Half-divisions hold standard 1-inch base miniatures perfectly (the fairy lady is a metal mini printed off Hero Forge).

The tackle box used is one of the larger sizes Plano has to offer, but if you don't have as much stuff to stash, the Plano Prolatch 3600 or the Plano Prolatch 3500 are smaller options that also work great. These sizes are better for players who want a case like this or DMs with nothing else but a couple dice sets and some minis.

Keep in mind that there will be a lot of foam left over. The 2-3700 only required two or three sheets of foam to triple-stack the entire container, and I got myself a 10-pack. If you need to get rid of the extra foam, getting a couple 3500's for your players is a nice gift, considering they only run about $4 each. I got a four-pack of the 2-3700's since most of my players also DM, so hopefully that uses up the rest of the 10-pack of foam.

u/fazalmajid · 2 pointsr/homelab

For small parts I use these, which are inexpensive and very practical thanks to the movable dividers. I use them for everything form small tools to my daughter's Lego.
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E39T50/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The Akro-Mills box is pretty good, and I haven't found better for a reasonable price. You could also use stackable plastic shoeboxes (Sterlite et al) or stackable bins like these:
https://akro-mils.com/Products/Types/Plastic-Storage-Containers/AkroBins

For cables, the best option is to simply bag them in heat-sealable poly bags. That stops them from tangling together, and you can toss them in a plastic bin (Rubbermaid roughneck or equivalent).

u/m00dawg · 2 pointsr/boardgames

I found a shallow one off of Amazon. Also found the black plastic tray I've heard mentioned, but the shipping on that thing is non-trivial to make it worthwhile. Looks just about perfect for the ship upgrades though.

I'm thinking one of those plastic boxes might be good enough for now. Surely it'd be better than throwing a bunch of these tiles in plastic bags.

u/InFearn0 · 2 pointsr/dndnext

This is similar to what I use for my miniatures

I have two that I use most of the time. I have a lot of the injected plastic D&D minis from WotC, so they are durable enough to just toss in there.

For eldritch I recommend [this plano box] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E3C3NU/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) for housing everything but the cards. After that, you can make a foam core card tray with dividers. It makes the game much faster to set up, with a lot less clutter.

Plano 1374 4-By Rack System 3700 Size Tackle Box for carrying around most of my stuff - teams, maps, rules, tokens, components, etc...

For my extra, bulk minis I put them in gallon sized ziplock bags, roll them up, and store them in your basic clear, plastic storage container.

u/Lyianx · 2 pointsr/XWingTMG

I use Plano 3700 and 3600 series plastic trays and line the bottoms that i put models in with cotton. (3700's are for permanent storage and, 3600 is for transporting what im playing that day). I should take new shots of the 3700 lol. Ones i have are from way back in 1st ed).

I've also seen people use Stanley tool storage containers (this photo, they use the plastic molds from the package, cut them down to fit to keep them from moving).

The safest (and most expensive) would probably be custom cut foam trays from battle foam.

u/20four12 · 2 pointsr/XWingTMG

The Plano 1364 trays are not deep enough to fit the ships on bases even if you lay them down, but the Plano 1374 tackle box most definitely is capable of doing that for almost all of the small ships.

It's the one I use. Plano 1374

u/synthetix808 · 2 pointsr/XWingTMG

If you plan to collect most/every ship from all 3 factions and multiples of each, one of the more popular choices is Plano 1374. Its versatile, you'll grow into it, and fairly inexpensive for what it offers.
I just recently retired one and now that I'm at 111 standard play ships (+ the 5 epics in their own case), I'm using this https://imgur.com/a/lNyjw

u/Lord_Seacow · 2 pointsr/XWingTMG

Alternatively, this box is only $20 and has more than enough storage for almost any number of ships. The top will store anything that isn't a Tantive or Raider. Probably not as big as the one linked, but it is less than half the price.

I was thinking of the 1374 which is much more similarly priced. My bad.

u/Tasrine · 2 pointsr/XWingTMG

apologies for the shitty-length link, but this tackle-box works rather perfectly to hold most of a current collection. I highly recomend it.

It will of course, not hold the Raider, Tantive, etc, but any of the large ships fit just fine

u/maflickner · 2 pointsr/guns

Onto the discription! What this is is my grandfather's Winchester Model 290, which retailed for the very expensive price of $75 new in the 70's. I had shown an interest in firearms for years now, so on my 18th birthday my dad dug this out of the attic and said, "You get it working and we'll go shooting." Luckily there was a gun cleaning kit with it, also from the 1970s. I cleaned out the gun, and put 350 rounds of .22 through it with 2 minor feeding hiccups.

The range trip confirmed the barely adjustable plastic sights were indeed crap, as I had ascertained on the internet, and I ordered the cheap .22 scope with dovetail mounts for the gun. I don't expect it to be winning any accuracy awards and is going to be used as a plinker, so I didn't need a high budget, ultra clear scope. I ended up just going for the Simmons .22 mag It works. Nothing fancy.

I really just like how the rifle looks with a scope. It seems very natural and rounds out the look. I'll most likely go to zero it in the next few days.

Well that we can’t disagree on.

A safe will cost you $85 on Amazon (I use this one and recommend it) and it is your responsibility, the owner, to purchase one. If anybody carries a gun because “you never know”, so I’ll encourage y’all to buy one of these, cause you never know when you might bump into a place where people may ban it, even for political matters.

Truth is politics will always play a role, so if we, gun owners do our shit correctly, I wanna see anybody pointing fingers at our guns.

u/Gun_Defender · 2 pointsr/canadaguns

>so i just want to be able to not have to spend absorbent legal fees defending myself.

For sure, the best solution would be to change the storage requirement laws, like how the storage requirements in Washington DC were recently struck down by our supreme court because they prevented people from legally storing guns accessible for self defense.

I'm just talking about your options for now, without any change to the laws.

>unlock your safe

Is there a requirement of what type of safe? Can you use the rapid unlock handgun safes, like this?

>(mag must not be in the gun during storage)

Do they inspect your storage periodically, and do you have warning of when such inspections will occur? I can't see how that could possibly be enforced in the US with our right against unreasonable searches. If you have a warning of when the inspections will occur you could make sure you were complying with the storage requirement just for the inspections, and if you have to use the gun in necessary self defense just lie and say it was unloaded.

>of course both of those options take time which as you know is very precious in a home invasion

Indeed, which is precisely why I'm suggesting you should break the law and be prepared to lie about it because they will be unable to prove you broke the law. We have a strong spirit of civil disobedience in the USA, and we consider an unconstitutional law to not be a binding law at all, we often simply ignore laws we don't agree with and are prepared to defend ourselves in the court of law from the consequences later if necessary.

Skip knife. You bring a knife to a gun fight and you are dead. Only use knife as utility, not defense. Knifes are extremely useful in emergency situations like a car crash cutting seat belts and using the window smasher if it has one. Tons of good knives from China via Aliexpress, Gearbest, Banggood (check r/knives)

Carry an OC Spray. Use that if threat is unarmed and run in defense. I have the Sabre OC spray $10 on Amazon ( Quick Release Keyring ORMD https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000UVTDLG/ )

I used to carry this around but agree with /u/Valkes about it being impractical. You never know how you're going to react scared in a situation (hands shaking, freezing up) or if you can/have time to react. The one time I thought I might need to use my pepper spray on someone, I'm glad I didn't because it felt like it took hella long to dig out of my purse and open/have ready.

Probably not a huge concern to some people, but pepper spray/mace is also illegal to carry around in some places.

I recently (because someone got attacked walking the same route I walk home alone from work most nights) switched over to this. It hangs off of the strap of my purse and all I'd have to do is yank it off the key chain for a loud alarm to sound. Personally, I feel better having that on hand than pepper spray I might not even be able to use or could get hurt using.

u/sukithefox · 2 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

My husband maintains that karate is very effective. There are various styles. Researching them for yourself would be most beneficial. I studied Tae Kwon Do and some shotokan, which is good for my body type because I have horrid upper body tone, though i have tried bulking up before, BUT I also have very strong legs. TKD is a lot of kicks, though some is for show. I think the main thing I liked about my husband's school was that they taught what to do when you lose the upper hand and have to grapple, as well as what to do when you have your feet under you. I can't for the life of me remember the style he learned, but the school was Hsin Lu Dao... I'm fairly certain it was shotokan and go ju. He says the grappling was more jiu jitsu... multiple schools tend to cover multiple bases. It isn't exactly comfortable at first, but it does eventually become ingrained as reflexes. Husband says shotokan schools are becoming more and more tournament centered, so it's probably worth shopping around for an academy.

The keychains I picked up at an armory the last time my dad went in for ammo. Mine is black, but it looks like this one

It fits decently in your hand. And it burns like a bitch, because I have had some on my hands and rubbed my face on accident before. I wouldn't recommend that particular experience. The main thing is to make sure that you don't put your finger over the spray when you push. Haven't used, have practiced. I don't think it'd be good for more than a couple of bursts, though the packaging says something like 20.

I would also honestly maybe consiedr tlking to the police officer about your hraassment from these guys. Tell thehead of the church or the main pastor just so he is AWARE of the history between you and these kids so later when something goes wrong, tehy cant try to blame it on you

I have this pepper spray I carry if I'm worried I'll be somewhere with loose dogs or sketchy people. I've never had to use it, but it's super light and straps onto your hand so you really don't notice it much.

u/Belo42 · 2 pointsr/xxfitness

I've found myself in this exact same predicament. You have to be aware of the situation you're in and how vulnerable you are when you're out by yourself. I use to run, at night, alone, in an area where a women was abducted some years prior. Trust me I kept my music low, my eyes open, and mace in hand. The risk is there but that's no reason to live your life in fear. Bad things happen all the time, weather we're ready for them or not.

I would recommend a self defense class, some spray, and reevaluating your options.

I really don't see how you can ask $35 for a $22 knife that's not new? In fact they're both $22. Canadian taxes must be insane!!! For the small price you paid you might want to hold on to them to beet them up. I love my chill it's stupid light maybe just throw it in a packback? Always nice to have a few abuser knives....

u/ElectricLamp · 2 pointsr/knives

They're both in 8cr13mov and people really underestimate them for it. It's actually a very easily maintained steel but watch out for the Clash and its bead blasted finish; it'll rust on you easily. The Freefall is stonewashed so you won't have that problem.

Honestly I'd probably prefer a [kershaw chill](http://www.amazon.ca/Kershaw-3410-Chill-Pocket-Knife/dp/B002IVHQ5Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1398139713&sr=8-1&keywords=kershaw+chill] in that range for its blade geometry. It's mostly flat ground and it will make for noticeably better slicing capability. (even though it is also bead blasted)

Otherwise it'd be good to pony up ten more bucks and get a Rat II

Kershaw Chill, a gentleman's folder.

u/YouMadeMeDumber · 2 pointsr/knives

There are some aesthetically pleasing knives here, but I would encourage you to look into some things with a bit more functionality. While any of these may appear to function well, a properly made knife will treat you much better in the long run.

This Kershaw is inexpensive, has good steel characteristics and is well assembled. I encourage you to get one or possibly something recommended in the knife buying guide and compare to some of the knives in your collection.

I use a combination of these for my Zombicide seasons 1-3. I own one of everything made for the game (each retail and promo item) and got it to fit in two of the LP cases and I believe ten of the Plano cases.

I plan to do the same for Black Plague, but I need to come up with something for the extra large "boss monster" figures.

two of these were great for me for organizing everything in the core game + twin shadows + wave 1 ally/villain pack figures all into the core game box. All the figures went in 1 plano box, all tokens and small cards fit in the 2nd plano box. larger cards I divided into labeled baggies that fit them. Most map tiles also fit into ziploc bags which I labeled and divided by map tile number, 0-10, 11-19, 20-29 and 30-39. Only the AT-STs, round/threat dial, and the very largest map tiles are put into the box unorganized (if I hypothetically had larger ziploc bags then I could have all map tiles organized and stored), though they're pretty snug in there surrounded by everything else.

After I got Return to Hoth I added all I could to my first two plano boxes but still had to use a 3rd small plano box to fit additional figures. I keep this box and hoth specific map tiles in the hoth box.

If I remember, /u/ProdigyLightshow is a huge fan of kases so he would give some good insight. My friends who use them like them, click responsiveness is particularly good for conjuring and color changing easily so it might be directed towards a style. And for the lights shape, I switched from eDot to micromax recently (long story, but I don't usually use eDots :P) and it still felt weird and bulky. So it might just be an adjustment thing. If not, grab some micromax as well. All cases are pretty cheap anyways.

With your storing problem, you might want to invest in a box such as a fishing box or small storage box with separate containers. This is the one I have: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E39T50/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Essentially, it'll help keep your collection organized as well as helping store lights so they don't get pressed on or anything. I've also heard keeping gloves in hard shell eye glass cases work well too.

I just started beading and am focusing on Pokemon, so here's a long winded write up. Like a lot of other people here, I started with presorted packs like this one, which have about about 250 of each color in them. Amazon has three packs like that and I bought one of each to get a big variety of sorted colors. This does not give you enough of each color to sustain you for that long, but they are a good starting point and you'll quickly get the feel for what colors you need the most. You'll want 1000 bead packs of any color you're going to use more than a tiny bit of. The 250 in those sorted packs won't last long.

For Pokemon, I've found the most important colors to keep a big stock of are Black, Dark Grey, Grey, and White. Black is used to outline all of them, the Dark Grey is used for a lot of the details within the sprite, and a lot of Pokemon have White bits which the Grey shades well. There's a lot of Pokemon so I'm using a very big variety of colors beyond those. Their sprites are always shaded, too, so you really need a mix of lighter and darker colors. If you're using Light Blue on a Pokemon's body, you'll probably need Dark Blue to shade it, and so on.

I bought a lot on Amazon at first too, but now that I'm getting more into it I've placed a couple big orders to Bakers'KidsCraftsBooks&More on Ebay. It's a little cheaper for 1000 bead packs than Amazon if you're ordering several, and they carry Hama and Nabbi too. This chart is really helpful for figuring out what Hama and Nabbi colors are sufficiently unique from Perler to make them worth purchasing. The downside is that it's a little slower than Amazon, since you have to wait for a combined invoice before you can pay and get them shipped, but it's the cheapest way I've found to get 1000 bead packs of all bead brands.

The square interlocking 29x29 peg boards that other people have mentioned are big enough to fit most Pokemon and smaller sprites on, and you can always link them up for more room. They come with ironing paper and you can also use parchment paper.

I bought these tweezers too. I don't think they're necessary, but they're easier to use than regular tweezers if I have to remove beads that have already been placed. I usually just use my fingers when initially placing beads.

I like these tackle boxes for storage. They have adjustable compartment sizes, so you can make big compartments to dump your 1000 bead packs into. They close very securely and the compartments are flush with the lid, so beads don't mix if you turn it upside down. The only downside is I have seven of them and already have almost filled them up, haha.

Quick edit: All the Pokemon I've made have been based on the small sprites you see in the party, so that's what my color suggestions are geared to.

Fits everything small except the triple hex tiles and the dragon, with some room to spare if you want to separate a few things I left together like the status tokens.

If you pack the box well, all the map tiles stack up to about the same thickness as one plano box, so 3 boxes plus the tiles makes a level stack two boxes wide, and two of these is pretty much the exact footprint of the game box. My game closes about 2" taller than a fully closed box.

Plano tackle boxes and the associated trays are pretty much the de-facto standard. Some people spring for foam, but almost everyone I know uses a plano tackle box.

I have this box: https://www.amazon.com/Plano-1374-Rack-System-Tackle/dp/B000E3FKTO/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1473565059&sr=1-1&keywords=plano+1374

The mods stay on the desk, I never know which one I feel like grabbing that day. The juice stays in one of these lock boxes in the closet. I usually have a few juices scattered about my desk and in my desk drawer as well. I've been thinking about a tackle box like this though, I have far too much crap as the photos are only what I have in circulation, I have 3 of the master boxes.

u/Tervlon · 1 pointr/XWingTMG

I know you said no tackle boxes, but with a collection that size I don't think you'll be able to find anything that can accommodate all of it at once. If I were you I'd get a big Plano case with multiple racks for each faction and arrange the individual rack cases with some of each ship so that you don't have to take everything all the time. You could have a case of tokens in each stack so that everything is playable if you just take the Imperial case to play or whatnot. You just have too much!

I use one of these at the moment, maybe getting 2 or 3 of them would work out for you?
http://www.amazon.com/Plano-1374-4-By-System-Tackle/dp/B000E3FKTO/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1417716160&sr=8-7&keywords=plano+stowaway+3700

Impossible. But you have quite a bit.

u/Kriterian · 1 pointr/XWingTMG

One more thing is to get a good storage system with room to grow. Yes you can find some cheap containers to hold a few ships and tokens, but once your collection grows you'll be lugging around 5 or 6 containers.

Plano tackle boxes aren't too expensive and hold everything with room for more. I started out big with the 1374 and still have room after getting all the ships with duplicates.

This will more than fit your collection. You can fit both large ships ( tantive and transport) up top and a full fleet in each tray.

u/Aanar · 1 pointr/XWingTMG

I have a Plano 3700 4by rack

I use 1 tray for rebel, 1 for imperial, 1 for scum, and the 4th for the dice, asteroids, damage deck, movement templates, range ruler, etc. and there's enough room to bring the ships for 1 list. Then I just load it up with the list I want to fly and I can just take the 1 tray with me.

u/CornflakeJustice · 1 pointr/Warhammer

Storage - This is also useful for transporting bits boxes or models and the top is great for tanks or modelling supplies. I would suggest going to your local outdoor shop and buying there so you can get the size you want. I ordered from Amazon without thinking to check the size and now I have an adorable little tackle box. It's great for bits, but not so excellent for army transportation.

Brushes -
I generally use the smallest I can find of the filbert, spotter, and angle shader. I also have a deer foot, but that was because the lady at the art shop was too good at her job.

GW Paints - The new line is pretty excellent as a new painter. I haven't dealt with Vallejo but I know my LGS sells them and a couple people use them. I hear they're much better with airbrush.

Plastic Cement

And whatever superglue you like.

And of course you'll need sprue clippers, an exacto, a toothbrush, and files, but it doesn't really matter which of those you get.

u/Maizrim · 1 pointr/AttackWing

I have this Plano case from Amazon and it still has room up top for a few more ships - it has at least one of every ship inside the four trays, which are behind that door on the front.

I use the top compartment for two short card boxes and to store my Tactical Cube, templates, Fina Prime (she's a big one) and Resources.

The only issue is the current price of $45 - I got it about 8 months ago when it was $35, so I'd add it to your cart and keep an eye on the price if you're interested.

EDIT: I also keep my dice and extra shield/disable tokens in the compartment up top near the handle, which comes in handy when I need to grab some during a game.

You don't know much at all about gun safes, do you? Hell no I'm not leaving my gun around where my kids can get it. But, you're right. I do need to access it very quickly.

Here's what any respecting home protector will use. You see, I (AND ONLY I) can access it almost as quickly as if it were just lying around. But, you see. Only I can access it.

It's clear you don't like guns, but I urge you to go take a handgun safety class. You'll really get a lot out of it, and it might demystify some aspects of gun safety for you. Gun safety is not only practiced when guns are in the room or in the hand. Gun safety matters from the time you buy the gun to the time you get rid of it. I'm not even suggesting buying one, nor am I trying to convert you. You just seem really misinformed.

u/man_made_explosion · 1 pointr/WA_guns
  1. I mean, maybe this doesn't carry weight with you, but I would say this is the clearest violation of your 2nd and 14th amendment rights and is a mirror image of poll taxes (see the 14th amendment and Harper v. Virginia State Board of Education) and/or current arguments about Voter ID laws (for reference, a state ID in Indiana, which requires gov't issued ID to vote, costs $13). Notably, debates about voter ID laws are ongoing, but many of the arguments against requiring ID are the same that I would make here: they constitute a burden to exercising your rights, particularly in a way that disparately impacts disenfranchised people.

To combine 4 and 5 for a second, thinking about someone who has minimal extra budget and is looking to buy a handgun for themselves. Let's say they can only afford a Hi-Point C9. With an MSRP of $150, that is something that someone who has a limited income might be able to afford. Lets say, plus a box of 50 rounds of ammo for $20 so they can practice shooting? thats $170 to protect themselves and/or their family. Now, lets be clear, this is far from what I would recommend to someone who can afford to spend more money, but $170 is a fair amount of money to some people. Now lets say they have to pay the $25 fee, so we are up to $195. And they need to buy a quick access safe because they have kids around the house but need to actually be able to access the firearm in case of an emergency. So that's another $85. We are now at 280, instead of $175; nearly a 50% jump in cost for someone who is already scraping by. and that's assuming they are just buying a pistol. If they want to buy a rifle, which by every measure other than concealability is a better tool to defend yourself with (and which you would prefer in a home defense scenario), your cost would look more like this:
    Rifle Cabinet, non-quick access - $125
HiPoint Carbine, again, hipoint not recommended, but the cheapest is MSRP of $315
Admin fee, aka tax - $25
Training Course, lets assume this concealed carry primer is comparable in scope/cost to what would be required by law? - $40
    Box of ammo - $20
That nets us out to $520; $190 more than would be otherwise necessitated.

Anyway, hopefully this was helpful. I want to say, I get that this comes from a perspective of someone who is staunchly pro-gun, but I would like to highlight that at least part of my journey of becoming pro-gun was because as I learned the technical, functional, and legal frameworks around firearms, I realized that much (90%) of the legislation being pushed would do little to impact gun violence, and actually importantly, suicide (raising awareness for mental health issues is one of the things I do when it comes to charity work).

Happy to answer any further questions and/or continue the discussion; sorry again for the slow response-- as you can tell, lots to cover here :)

The one thing I would recommend, is no matter that you only want it for your car, still take it to the range and practice with it. Every gun needs to be broken in, and using something untested for self defense is hit and miss at best, and life threatening at worst. So please, go to the range and put 250-500 rounds through it at least, to make sure that your sight picture is correct with that particular pistol.

Since you're planning on keeping it in your car, check out the GunVault Micro:
http://www.gunvault.com/microvault.nxg

That way someone can't just smash a window and get it

http://www.amazon.com/Gunvault-Microvault-Pistol-Gun-Safe/dp/B000TG9RCC

They're about $75-$90 so shop around, and I would recommend springing for the biometric model eventually, just to keep everything secure.

Hey, just a word of encouragement; you got this.

You're allowed to change your mind. You're allowed to say "no" and not explain yourself. You're allowed to call the cops on them, or to mace them if they won't leave you alone. My N's are actually a main reason why I carry mace; Nrage is not to be underestimated. You do not owe anyone an explanation. You only owe yourself to do what makes you happy as a person. You can do absolutely whatever you want, you are not beholden to them.

Knives are not a good self defense tool. I train in combat sports and we train in knife fighting and all i can say is EVERYONE in a knife fight gets seriously hurt.

Pepper spray is my self defense tool of choice. Can be used without being in arms reach of an assailant. If u want something by the bed, u can get a roll of industrial velcro from the hardware store and pepper spray and attach a pepper spray to the side of ur bed frame or bed side table.

U can get vibration alarms for the windows to sound the alarm if a window is broken. And/or window alarms meant for opened windows. A good heavy duty lock for the door.

u/frostfromfire · 1 pointr/WTF

If you don't feel like getting your girlfriend a small bottle of pepper spray like this you can make pepper spray at home. Take a cup of water and mix it with a few tablespoons of ground chili pepper, then pour it into a small spray bottle. It won't have the force coming out that a manufactured bottle of mace would have, but it will do the job if sprayed directly into someone's eyes.

u/haleylong10 · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

The most life changing, or saving, item is this pepper spray. I'm in college and often feel unsafe while walking home sometimes even alone. I think this product could potentially save me. Thank you for the contest :)

u/sighsorry · 1 pointr/AskReddit

I've come into this late and don't know if anyone's suggested these things yet, but just in case they haven't been I'll go ahead.

I'm glad to hear you've called the police and that they'll be patrolling your area more. In the meantime, you can buy a door brace to ensure your door stays shut while you're home, and pepper spray to keep by your bed. I would also recommend purchasing a pepper spray to keep on your key ring so that you have something on your when you are walking to and from your car.

You could also buy a taser gun, but I have no personal experience with them and could not vouch for them personally like I can for a door jam and pepper spray.

I'm sorry you're going through this. It's really scary to not feel safe, especially in your home, which should be a source of comfort for you. Take steps to make yourself feel better protected, and continue to call the police if anything else occurs. Do NOT hesitate to call them. I hope this situation gets taken care of quickly for you.

u/A_Plinkers_Damn · 1 pointr/reloading

For what it's worth, my Lee 50th Anniversary kit has been fantastic for me. I will admit that I almost instantly swapped out the included measure for the Pro Auto Disk and the beam scale for an electronic. I also invested in a universal decapper.

How are you planning on case cleaning? Ultrasonic, vibratory, wet tumbling (like the cool kids do)...?

u/lord_terrene · 1 pointr/TheBestPony

Not micrograms, but I'll use milligrams. If you took 1000mg (1g) in a day, you'd be feeling pretty sick and it could kill those who have a sensitivity. Another unit that I just invented now is the RB (Red Bull), this would be 12.5 RBs. I'd call that an overdose.

In order to caffeinate 5 gallons of root beer, I use about 6g (6000mg, or 75 RBs), and this amount might fill a teaspoon. I don't know what a pinch would be, but I'd consider that bad if it approached 1/6th of a teaspoon.

For individual drinks, you'll need a precision scale like this. Also you'll look like a drug dealer. Have fun!

u/bbartokk · 1 pointr/reloading

Unless you have a really good kitchen scale I wouldnt go with it. I've had good luck with this Frankford Arsenal scale.

u/uid_0 · 1 pointr/reloading

I have this very same press and I have loaded thousands of rounds of .45 ACP on it. 10/10 would buy it again.

However, do yourself a favor and dump the scale and the auto-disk measure and pick up a micrometer powder measure and a digital scale. Your reloading will be much faster and less frustrating.

u/HumidNut · 1 pointr/reloading

I like the Lyman manual for the sheer number of bullet styles and, in general quality of information. That's what I typically suggest a "new" reloader. Other than that, I suggest the manual for the bullet mfg that you see yourself shooting a bunch of. If you shoot speer, get the speer, hornady, get the hornady, etc.

As for a digital scale, they go from super cheap to sky's the limit. I got a Gempro250 some three years ago, prior to that, used a PACT. Both are good, but that damn Gempro is $50 more on Amazon than when I got mine (I paid $143 on April 23, 2015, hey forgot to have a birthday for it...). Brownells has the Gempro250 for $130ish, but with the code MDX that knocks $10 off the scale and free shipping to boot. The calibers you list don't seem to strike me as the precision type, so a $130 scale might be a bit excessive.

I've heard decent things about the Frankfort Arsenal Scale, seen a bunch of people use them, but I cannot personally vouch for the product. I have used a bunch of the Caldwell/Frankfort Arsenal/Battenfield products and have found all of them of good quality and value.

u/PeterPriesth00d · 1 pointr/reloading

It's probably not very accurate, but more accurate than guesstimating with a dipper

u/random157294683 · 1 pointr/reloading

Your kit should have a .5cc dipper, right?

Accurate #7 will be 7.7gr
Alliant Unique will be 4.6gr
Alliant Power Pistol will be 5.6gr

These charge weights should be in the ballpark for both 115gr and 124gr jacketed bullets. Unique is my favorite. Extremely versatile powder.

For a first pass, I would recommend a 115gr Hornady bullet (any of them) and that 4.6gr of Unique.

Having said that, you have already invested enough money that you should just buy a scale. This scale is better than nothing and is only $17.

If that's still too rich for your blood, you can get the Lee Dipper kit for $11 and have a lot more options.

u/Etatheta · 1 pointr/reloading

u/SaltoVovka · 1 pointr/reloading

The expander sizing die has a primer punch pin that punches the spent primer out of the primer pocket.

I'm not sure how accurate those powder scoops are (I've never used one), but I do use this electronic scale and it works fine. You should probably get some calipers to measure case length and overall length.

Edit: sizing die not expander die has the primer punch.

u/sammysausage · 1 pointr/guns

Depends on what you want to spend:

Press

Scale

Thrower

Dies

You can use scoops instead of a thrower and a scale, but I'd go with the scale and thrower. Dies are dies, but there are cheaper as well as more expensive presses and throwers. Primers and powder aren't too expensive, but a little hard to find these days...

u/j8048188 · 1 pointr/funny

I ordered a scale kind of like that one This one, if you care and all I get is gun-related suggestions. Not that I mind :)

u/nootay · 1 pointr/reloading

This bad boy. 35 hits, 10 foot range (some will have longer ranges), small enough to carry in a back pocket or small purse pocket. I carry mine in my back pocket whenever I go walking. I'm more worried about loose dogs though (also a good reason to carry it). I personally prefer the one with the key ring.

Collapsable batons are also possible, but they're bulky, can be hard to handle in a fight, and can get lost in a purse. The most important thing to understand is that your weapon can always be used against you. Batons are wicked numbers, because they have physics on their side. The collapsible component adds even more energy than a regular baton/stick, because of the velocity factor in the same way a police door buster often has moving components (sometimes inside itself)

The one, real goal in a confrontation is escape, not escalation. That's why I like the spray. It's long range (6 ft is enough time for an attacker run up to someone and stab them), non-lethal, and surprising. If you or her use it, it WILL get in your eyes through blowback. However, you personally will be expecting it and your attacker will not. When they are writhing in the ground in pain, she will be writhing too, but also escaping as fast as she can.

Tip: Don't attach your spray to your keys. You don't want your keys to get lost in a fight OR become police evidence. Keys can also be used as a weapon, but that's really a last resort.

Save yourself the legal hassle and the inevitable media shitstorm if the person happens to be a "photo negative" of you. I would say pepper spray would probably be about as wise as it comes. Completely incapacitates a person in the moment it's needed, but causes no longterm affects or death.

If the person is high, that might make it more of a health problem, idk but I'd still say its the best option.

I wear it on my left wrist to easily access it with my right hand. I like that it’s on display, I feel that it gives the perception that I am going to fight back. If I get into a situation that I feel uneasy about, simply switch the entire unit to your dominate hand to be on alert. The strap makes it harder to drop, which is really useful as a fairly clumsy person.

I also just want to say my heart really goes out to you. That’s a terrifying experience and I really wish you to best. We can be as prepared as possible and sometimes the universe just works against us.

Pepper spray has a usage distance of 10ft or more and cost $5-10. That is much better than having to be close enough to an attacker to use a taser.

A quick google says you can have a taser if you are over 18 in Indiana, so I assume you can use them for self-defense.

I think they are a great value for the comparatively low price point. They come very sharp, don't have frills, and they just work.

A couple months ago I hit gold in my search to reacquire a knife I lost as a kid. My Buck Whittaker 437T fetish was finally acted upon, and I found two on Ebay. Well, I was searching for something else, and I found another one! This one is black. So, now I have three - blue, black, and green. So I am going to start at my local indoor range, which only has 25 yard rifle lanes. In the future if this red dot doesn't do it for me I will go for something in the $200 range.

For cheapness you can get a Fieldsport Micro Dot from amazon for $20 and a UTG Riser Mount. I do not recommend using these sights without a riser.

If you want to spend some actual cash on a really good optic I recommend either a primary arms T1 and riser or a [Holosun] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NC1G0KI/ref=dp_cerb_2). Dutch uses a Primary Arms but IMO the holosun is probably the best budget real steel optic on the market.

Since you're new to airsoft I suggest getting a cheaper red dot at first. This red dot is pretty good, only 20 bucks and has great reviews. For the height you should get a rail riser, like this.

Edit: also any normal red dot should fit on your rail system

The Smith & Wesson M&P9 is the best overall pistol currently available in my opinion. It had zero gun-caused malfunctions in a 2010 ATF test. And yet it's still very reasonably priced at around $450. This website will help you shop for them online (if you order it online, you'll need to find a local FFL dealer for them to deliver it to and pay a transfer fee). Any Federal HST cartridge should perform well in it. Since that ammo is hard to find, this website will help you find it in stock online (and yes, ordering ammo over the internet and getting it shipped directly to your home is perfectly legal). Here's my favorite inside the waistband holster. And here's my favorite outside the waistband holster. I recommend buying this hearing protection and this hearing protection (yes, you should wear both at the same time. And yes, you'll still be able to hear everything perfectly fine if you put the volume on maximum). Here's the safety glasses that I recommend. And here's the lubrication that I recommend.

Open carry is legal in Virginia. You don't need a permit. You do need a permit to carry concealed.

Love these!! work great! reusable, can still talk to others, can still hear ducks, you are able to tell where the sound is coming from (electronic ones dont let you detect directions of sounds), and they don't hit your gun when you mount it. I carry several when i go out.

u/jayemo · 1 pointr/ar15

Read "protection" and instantly thought of this.

Take a look at Sure Fire EP4. I keep a pair in all of my range bags. While they likely won't offer the level of reduction as over-ears, they are awesome for rifle shooting as they will not obstruct your cheek weld. Only problem I've had is that they only last about 3 months (I shoot 2-3 times a weeks) until they get too limp (lol) to go inside of your ear firmly.

Edit, EP5 is money too and has a bit more reduction.

A pre-installed mosfet/etu is the best you're gonna get for trigger response at a lower price. All the aftermarket drop-in mosfet/etu system are quite expensive relative to the price of that g&g r8-l.

I'm guessing the battery that it comes with is the 9.6v nimh? a 7.4v lipo will be far better for trigger response (at least as far as you can get with a small budget). Lipo batteries can be had for ~$10 each on hobbyking, and a basic smart charger will only cost you between $15-30, depending on what features you want.

The "scope" that it comes with is just a cheap red dot sight. You can find plenty of affordable and reliable red dot sights on Amazon or ali-express (example).

The bundle might be convenient, but it's definitely not the best route you should take.

u/DaXLR · 1 pointr/Nerf

Problem with looking up ''are Lipo safe'' online, you'll get dozens of horror stories, but of course, no mention of the tens of thousands of times LiPos were completely fine.

You can get balance chargers for pretty damn cheap. I've used this one for my airsoft LiPos for years without any issues. However investing in a higher quality universal one might benefit you in the long run, especially if you're scared of LiPos. (You shouldn't be. Careful, yes. Scared, no).

Lipo bags are overpriced and useless. Lots of people here say to charge it in an ammo can, it works, but even simpler is in a stainless steel pot with the lid propped open. Unless you make them fail, LiPos don't ''explode''; they catch fire more or less violently depending on the fault. All you need is something that's not flammable and non-airtight to charge it in.

As for taking care of them. Don't run them too hot, don't puncture or bend them and most important; never short a LiPo battery. That's it. I'd add don't overcharge, but if you're using a LiPo charger, that shouldn't happen anyway.

Also, the whole thing about balance charging; normal battery cells can be charged 'through' eachother, meaning that you can charge them all at once to the nominal voltage (say, a 9.6V NiMh battery) and they're going to be fine. Lithium cells needs to be charged independently to their nominal voltage (3.7V for LiPo cells) to make sure one cell is not overcharged and develops a fault, that's what 'balance-charging' means.
That's why LiPos batteries have a small, extra connector. This connector let's you monitor the voltage in each cell and that's what balance chargers use. The only thing you need to worry about is to make sure the charger you pick has the proper way of interfacing with the batteries you buy. If you buy a 2 cell (7.4V) or 3 cell (11.1V) just make sure to pick a charger that can balance that number of cells and has the proper connector (It's usually pretty obvious in the description). Unless it's a single cell, you will always have different ports for charging and discharging LiPos.

Check out the Krytac forum for technical discussions on Krytac products.

I've got my FDE Krytac LVOA-C on the way, but I did order two batteries from Hobby King:

2000mah 2S 15~25C LiPo (7.4V)

2000mah 3S 15~25C LiPo (11.1v)

Researching on the Krytac forum, if you have a US-market Krytac AEG, you should be fine using a 11.1v. However, if you are in Europe, you may have better results with the 7.4v. My friend received his US-market LVOA-C last week and the 11.1v worked great.

I'd also recommend this Tenergy charger: http://amzn.com/B004FGWY54
I've got a more involved LiPo fast charger, but the Tenergy is a simple balance charger that'll do the job just fine. Also, don't forget to get a Kevlar lipo bag for safety!

u/riddle3master · 1 pointr/backpacks

OP I have had the Mil-tec 36 liter, this backpack: https://www.amazon.com/Mil-Tec-Military-Tactical-Rucksack-Backpack/dp/B005KDBHWM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1518389942&sr=8-3&keywords=miltec+backpack

I would say it is very tough and durable, but you also get what you paid for. It's a very stiff backpack and while it could carry a lot, it wasn't very big on the back, rather it had more depth. So it would really mess with your center of gravity. Also one of the side molle wasn't stitched evenly so trying to put on attach a side compartment didn't work out the best for that side. Overall it was a good backpack for $36. I felt like not much thought was put into its design compared to other companies, but I guess with that price, what do you expect. This is just my opinion of one of their bags of course.

In fact, I often use the same combo when operating loud power tools, yard equipment, and/or at air shows and auto races, etc. The foam earplugs are always with me at rock/pop concerts. Always.

u/TheDeansOffice · 1 pointr/guns

I've got the Howard Leight Impact Sports and have the same problem bit don't like doubling up with foam plugs. At indoor ranges and when shooting rifles i now use the Howard Leight Impact Pro. They're larger than the Sports but are electronic and have a 30 dB rating instead of the 22 dB rating of the Sports.

Most folks seem to go for the Howard Leight Impact Sports, but I'm going to offer a dissenting opinion and say spend just a little more and get the Howard Leight by Honeywell R-01902 Impact Pro. These are the ones my wife and I use.

Those slim Impact Pro's that everyone recommends only have a NRR22 rating and the bulkier ones have a NRR30 rating. That's a big difference in decibel reduction and you can't get back hearing that you've lost. If you shoot somewhat regularly or more I don't think you can have too much protection, imho, especially if you use indoor ranges. Bigger is better! :)

I just got a Sig Sauer Romeo 5 a month ago and its pretty solid. I can first hand recommend these optics.

Well okay then....but at the same time I ordered it with free shipping no extra costs and it got here in 2 days super cheap, no shipping restrictions. Enough talking wanna spray about it? I think I spent 25 bucks for 3 canisters? You sound poor.

Edit: Here I found you one for 10 bucks, it is pink and has a ribbon.

I use this sabre brand and just hang the elastic strap over my bar grip.

Don't forget it could also be useful against rednecks with guns.
