This is what I buy for Dude. It's got quick clot, gauze, duct tape, gloves, antiseptic, and a bag for the waste or chest wound. It's $20. He's SAVED two lives with this and the tournequets I stock him with. Medical goes as fast as they can but in those two cases they would not have had enough time.

He also carries small bags of gummy bears, bottled water, and protein bars because the situation has warranted getting food and/or sugar into someone without overloading them.

u/shittwins · 49 pointsr/Music

Completely agree. I now have tinnitus, which sucks but am very careful to wear a pair to prevent any further damage. If you're reading this thinking you don't need/want to wear a pair, please do. Tinnitus really isn't fun.

This is the pair I use. Very cheap and very good. You can barely notice them when they're in your ears, they're actually pretty hard to spot - this was the only thing stopping me wearing them before I invested in a pair. I thought they would make me look 'uncool'.

u/chdrchyz · 44 pointsr/sex

These are even cheaper, but maybe not as "sexy". https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001IN46NU/ref=oh_o06_s00_i01_details?th=1

> Generic /r/sex[1] advice, tell him how his actions made you feel. Find out if it is specifically sleeping in the aftermath that bugs him or if it's something else all together. Maybe he just feels unclean afterwards and wants to go get a wash but thinks telling you that may hurt your feelings? I find squirting hot but if I'm on the bottom I get soaked and after the fact, it gets all cold and not a great all round feeling. It may bother him more than it bothers me.

I think this advice started in the right direction, but quickly turned into a question of problem-solving. She came here because her husband hurt her feelings, and that needs to be addressed before worrying about why he doesn't like sleeping on a wet bed.

I think OP's husband reacted insensitively to the situation. I think she feels blamed for something that happened involuntarily out of what was supposed to be an act of love and intimacy.

Of course, Husband has needs too, but it appears that both partners are having difficulty communicating their respective needs (or recognizing each other's), and that is getting in the way of their intimacy. She can't anticipate his or pull them out of him, but she can share hers first and then ask for his in return.

OP, here is what I recommend you do: speak to your husband objectively about what happened and how it made you feel (i.e., even though I think his actions were insensitive, please try your best to keep such judgments out of the initial discussion). Be sure to consider that sometimes, it's what he didn't do that hurt your feelings.

> When you went to sleep in the other room last night, I felt hurt and embarrassed - especially because you didn't invite me to come sleep with you.

Then, express a good faith desire to resolve the issue together and strengthen your bond

> Physical intimacy with you is important to me. I want to feel good about it, and I want you to feel good about it, too.

This is when I think it makes most sense to ask what he's feeling.

> Can you tell me what you were feeling when I squirted the other night? I know you might be worried that your response could hurt my feelings, but I'll do my best to listen, accept, and understand the truth.

And then you can work on a solution!

From a practical perspective, there's a handy solution to this that's been posted before.

(Long story short, OP from that thread really loves these pads.)

u/cait_131 · 32 pointsr/AskWomen

I use this monistat chafing cream that really, really helps me! It’s available at Walmart next to the other monistat stuff. I think Lush carries something similar as well.

These work really well to minimize the appearance of scars. Also, maybe check out r/SkincareAddiction.

I want to believe Kitty felt terrible about hurting you, but I know better. Glad everything worked out for you two, though.

u/Itcallsmyname · 28 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

They look like the scar "gel" pads you can buy in the first aid/bandaid sections of most stores (I've purchased from Target, Wal-mart, Walgreens, etc). They're a little pricey but reusable and I like to cut them up into tiny pieces to cover individual spots.

Just get some 3M Transpore Tape. Several of the commercial nipple protection products out there are just bits of that tape. I've used it for years. As long as you apply it when your skin is dry it's not going anywhere and provides the needed barrier.

Unfortunately they're still a bit spendy, but if you have the training and desire to have a solid first aid kit in your car or workplace, an AED will set you back about $1,200.

However, if you or a family member are at risk of heart attack or cardiac arrest for some reason, or your line of work puts you in contact with people at risk, that's a very worth-while investment.

u/RedStag86 · 15 pointsr/LifeProTips

Not completely sure why he's recommending headphones. I would personally go for a pair of $15-$20 Hearos ear plugs. They have high-fidelity ear plugs that lower decibel levels without muffling the sound. There are better plugs out there (such as custom molded with replaceable sound filters), but for the average concert-goer $20 is a good deal.

Edit: Such as these.

Double Edit: I now understand that he's talking about two different situations: concerts, and personal listening.

Borax vaginal pills - these go in your vagina and they REALLY work. I had chronic BV/yeast issues after or during my period and when i was on BC it was worse. Anyway - if i have any vaginal upset - i insert one of the pills into the vagina (DO NOT TAKE BY MOUTH). It basically corrects PH and the bacteria dont like that. I have been using them now for about a year and i have not had to use any RX at all for any yeast infections etc. I swear relief is also very fast. If you have an infection, the instructions will tell you to use for many days - honestly - one has cleared up any issue.

Use it at night, because you will get some grainy discharge. I do have a latex issue, and also sensitive to some semen.

Example that i have used

Also, if you still use tampons - switch to a menstrual cup. That really helped things too.

I think this would break me out, I wish I could try it.

u/mtandy · 13 pointsr/sex

One of these threads turned up a while back, and the general consensus among heavy squirters were that these pads were the best way to have squirty sex without all the sheet/mattress hassle. Soft top-layer, waterproof backing and washable.

u/HorrorPotato · 13 pointsr/wow

I know this probably won't help you right this minute. But for large conventions I usually wear a pair of high fidelity ear plugs. Loud/roaring crowds set off my anxiety, if that sound contributes to over-stimulating you, those earplugs will help filter it out. The loud roar gets muffled to a whisper but you will still be able to hear someone talking to you / near you. They've helped me a ton.

I don't use earplugs when practising (I admittedly use a digital so it's probably a bit of a moot point). However, I do use earplugs if I am gigging with other musicians or going to a gig that I know is going to be loud.

The earplugs that I use are designed have a relatively flat frequency response so it's like turning the volume down on the world (most others, e.g. the foam ones, massively affect the sound of music by attenuating some frequencies more than others).

For reference, the ones I use are Alpine MusicSafe Pros but I would do your own research on which are best - the market could have changed since I bought my set.

As an aside, I actually prefer going to gigs with them in now. You can still feel the bass through your body (advantage of it being loud) but everything that you hear is at a much more comfortable volume to listen to. Coupled with the fact that your ears don't ring afterwards, it's win-win!

u/tryptronica · 10 pointsr/BurningMan

Monistat Anti-Chafing Gel. I find it invaluable for all the bike riding I do on the playa. Between the heat and the dust, this is a real life saver for any body parts that might be rubbing together.

u/Descent_3 · 10 pointsr/electricdaisycarnival

I use Downbeats, I've had them for a little over 6 months now and they have been working great at a price standpoint. The earplugs are fairly small, so if you like discretion I'd recommend these. As far as clarity I'd rate it at an 8/10, so not much issue with sound quality, although at times I've had a tiny bit of trouble hearing people(only when super close to the speakers). It's so gratifying knowing I can go to these events and come back without any hearing loss lmfao.

Edit: I'd also like to point out that earplugs are amazing in camping environments when you're trying to sleep... These were a lifesaver at Beyond 2 weeks ago.

u/joyelectricboy · 10 pointsr/electricdaisycarnival

This. SO this. Protect your ability to hear and experience the power of music, people!

There are such good earplugs out these days - they make talking to the person next to you so easy because they can just talk and you can hear them crystal clear. I used to hate the foam earplugs but then discovered these. The sound levels at EDC (like most shows) ARE at damaging levels - even if your ears don't ring at the end of the night.

It's $20 to protect something you can't ever get back - imagine not being able to hear music later on in life. The $20 is worth it:

[PTSD from trauma.]

I went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner with the family. This place was LOUD! But all the noise mostly blended in with the deafening roar of the place.

Now if you've never been to Texas Roadhouse durring your birthday then you're missing a special kind of hellish embarrassment. They wheel out a saddle and plop you on it with a cowboy hat that's been on countless lice ridden children and make you swing a bandana while they whoop and holler and sing...

Well, I had my back to the entrance of the isle we were in (first mistake) and we just got our food served.the waiter left and as I turned to my food a group of four waiters "WHOOOOOO!!!"ed as they entered the isle right behind me.

I immediately apologized and sat down.... but it took me a solid 30 minutes to calm down and it wasnt better until i was in the car.

Bike shorts work great, but when it's too hot for the extra layer I use Monistat Chafing Gel. When rubbed into the skin, it feels like a really silky powder. It's not sticky at all.

u/brokerthrowaway · 9 pointsr/todayilearned

So you probably won't read this as you've got a ton of replies, but I'll throw my own into the mix.

My current SO and I use this particular absorbent pad. It's ridiculous how much fluid it can hold. I have no clue how other people answering here are able to just use towels (especially beach towels lol). My SO manages to soak through 4 layers of towels and I don't want to constantly wash towels lol.

To be completely honest, I casually saw another squirter a while back and I wasn't a huge fan of it. It was exciting/fun at first, but then it kinda became annoying. That was for a casual relationship though. With that said, I love my current SO very much and really enjoy making her squirt. Originally she was pretty self-conscious and apparently embarrassed about it. I reassured her that I enjoy it and want to make her feel good. She still gets a little grossed out by herself, but we laugh about it.

My advice to you is to be upfront to partners about this before you get too intimate like, "just so you know, I tend to get very very wet when I get too excited." I'd hope they get the hint. If things transpire and they are childish about it or even make you feel bad, remember there are many other people out there that won't.

Make-up primer will do a lot to help the "my face is melting off" phenomenon. The best primers are dimethicone based. However, they are expensive.

Conveniently, the much cheaper Monistat anti-chaffing gel is also dimethicone. Buy a tube of it for $8 and spend the rest of your summer looking faaaaaaaabulous.

u/LockyBalboaPrime · 8 pointsr/guns

Keep in mind that I'm speaking generally and I'm not covering all of the options. I don't have a medical background but I have taken a fucking shitload of classes over the years, easily in the 500+ hour range for survival, medical, first response, and trauma classes. I've also taught them many times but mostly at a lower level than what gunshots would be.

My IFAKs are for big bad things, I keep a small first aid pack for boo boos but normally those are rub dirt on it and duct tape it. My real IFAKs are for "oh god, this dude is going to die like right now" kind of wounds.

  1. Never buy anything from eBay.
  2. Never underpay for something. If 99 stores have it for $50 and you find it on sale for $5, it's fake. And fake medical equipment will literally get you killed. Suck it up, pay full price.
  3. Name brands cost more. Name brands also care about their kit and it matters.

That in mind - all of my IFAKs are homemade. I get supplies in semi-bulk and make 10+ IFAKs because I literally have them everywhere and I rotate out old/expired stuff as needed. I shit you not that I have 4 in my shooting supplies, 1 in my kitchen, 2 in the workshop, 2 in the car, etc. It's not cheap but nothing in life is. If you don't want to be that fanatical about it, getting a kit might be cheaper if you're making one or two.

    All of mine MUST have:

  • Gloves
  • Tape
  • Pressure bandage
  • Clotting agent, normally sponges
  • Gauze
  • EMT shears
  • Tourniquet

Other stuff like for burns, heatstroke, hypothermia, etc I have in some of my bags but not most of them.

    Cover the basics:

  • Adventure Medical Kit
  • CAT Tourniquet from NAR
  • Israeli Bandage
  • Madison EMT Shear
  • Condor Rip-Away EMT Bag

There is some arguments that can be made about this setup that I won't get into, these are what I like and trust though. I also normally add some extra gloves, tape, gauze, and QuickClot to each bag.

The Adventure Medical Kit is cheap and has the core stuff. Nice easy package too, quick to buy a few of them and stash them places if I don't have time to make real bags right then.

Israeli Bandage is the gold standard for a compression bandage. Watch some YT on how to use one, maybe get to so that you can kill one right off the bat to learn how to use it. Remember - once a bandage is opened, it's use it or lose it. Don't need infections because you used a 5 year old bandage that was stored wrong.

    Madison shears are solid.

I like CAT style tourniquets and I trust North American Rescue since they're one of the huge massive names in the market. All of mine are NAR CAT tourniquets.

Condor gets a bad name because of Airsoft kids that wear their stuff all the time, but this bag is really nice. It's fairly cheap, for an IFAK bag, it holds a lot, it's sturdy, and the rip away is really nice. I keep these on the outside of my range bag mostly. The rip away is nice since I can just grab the handle and pull.

Final note - remember that an IFAK isn't just for you to use. It's also for other people to use on you. Make sure they're marked as an IFAK. Mine are all either bright red with a medical cross on it or at least have a big red medical cross on it in a place that everyone can see.

I'm a big fan of these. I picked up a pair for myself and my gf for BassLights and NYE 360. I can attest they preserve the music while lowering the distortion and damage to your ears.

NyQuil:
650mg paracetamol
30mg dextromethorphan hbr
12.5mg doxylamine succinate

X48 Amazon - $16.62/$0.35 per dose

Dayquil
325mg paracetamol
10mg dextromethorphan hbr
5mg phenylephrine hcl

X48 Amazon - $14.91/$0.31 per dose

Paracetamol: 500mg X600 (Amazon) - $11.91
Dextromethorphan hbr: 15mg X60 (Amazon) - $9.99
Doxylamine succinate: 25mg X192 (Amazon)* - $9.49

Phenylephrine hcl: 10mg X36 ("Blowout Medical") - $2.10
10mg X72 (Rite Aid) - $10.99/$7.69 if you're a "member"

So!

  • 650mg paracetamol is $0.02576 (and 325mg is $0.01288)
  • 30mg dextromethorphan hbr is $0.255**
  • 12.5mg doxylamine succinate is $0.02471
  • 5mg phenylephrine is $0.02917 with the questionable site, or $0.07632 with rite aid.

You can also find other mixes of the ingredients (eg paracetamol/phenylephrine was one I saw) which may be cheaper than buying the ingredients individually.

    * I wrote this post out of order and got tired of transcribing links on my phone. Sorry. I didn't have to search very hard to find any of these, so you probably can too.
** Dextromethorphan is mildly problematic as an ingredient because for some reason you can only get it by itself in Robitussin or similarly expensive medications - so no cheap generics. But if you're willing to take it with something else like guafinisen (an expectorant that causes serious nausea at high doses to prevent abuse of dextromethorphan, but typically no ill, effects when taking therapeutic doses) then you will end up paying much less for that as well. Example:
    400mg guaifenesin, 20mg dextromethorphan hbr X30 Dollar General - $4.50
And if you're willing to order it in bulk from a foreign chemical supplier, then therapeutic doses become laughably cheap. Alibaba, e.g., has 1kg available for $480 (Xi'an Salus Nutra Bio-Tech Inc.), which puts 30mg at $0.01440. For a less insane example, I also see 1g for $1 (Changzhou Confucius Biotechnology Co., LTD.), which puts 30mg at $0.03000.

So we can "homebrew" a dayquil dose for
    $0.01288 (325mg paracetamol) +
    $0.01 (10mg dextromethorphan hbr) +
    $0.02917 (5mg phenylephrine hcl)
    :::
    $0.05205.

    And a nyquil dose for
    $0.02576 (650mg paracetamol) +
    $0.03 (30mg dextromethorphan hbr) +
    $0.02471 (12.5mg doxylamine succinate)
    :::
    $0.08047

and excepting dextromethorphan we have only used generics/different brands of the medicines that are in NyQuil and DayQuil.

That's a big part of why I think those products are scams. Another slightly more subjective reason is that I think paracetamol and phenylephrine are both useless in most circumstances. I have found that pseudoephedrine is the most effective nasal decongestant by far (though definitely more expensive), and that phenylephrine has little or no effect on symptoms of relevant illnesses.

I would recommend Chloraseptic and menthol for coughs instead of dextromethorphan as well.

It still boggles my mind that people buy shit like NyQuil, Excedrin (literally just caffeine and paracetamol, and we already know how cheap paracetamol is), etc. when the active ingredients can often be bought off the very same shelves

I know people are all about the foam rollers but I got The Stick and I really like it for focusing on sour spots. I have the 20" one but it's a little small for the back so I might get the 26.5 one also.

u/blood_bender · 7 pointsr/AdvancedRunning

There are really only 4 options. Ordered by price point:

$14 - Small foam roller - travel size, cheap, you can't really go wrong with this.

$27 - The Stick - My normal travel recovery tool, since you can stick it in pretty much any bag :D .

$120 - R8 - pretty amazing tool. It wraps real tight with a few deep pressure points, and you can do it watching TV on the couch. Only downside is you can't really roll your calves with this, since wheels on your shin = ouch.

$1500 - Normatec - Luckily I have 4 friends with these who I travel to races all the time with, but nothing can beat these things. My god. I spent I think 1.5 hours in a pair after my ultra.

Ok, so first off, stop digging at your feet with an exact-o knife. That's like using a chainsaw to cut drywall.

If you need to physically remove calluses and dead skin, get the right tool for the job: a pumice stone and/or callus rasp/callus shaver. Use these carefully, especially around areas where you've got cuts.

To help the dry parts of your feet heal, moisturize! Silicone/gel socks feel weird (it's like walking on rubber duckies) and make my feet sweaty, but they've done more to soften gnarly calluses than anything else I've ever tried, especially when used regularly and for several hours at a time. (If you aren't afraid of girly colors, there are plenty of other/cheaper options for these on Amazon.) When you aren't wearing the socks, use a lotion or cream like Working Feet or Cerave Foot Cream. Also, ALWAYS wear socks (just like normal cotton socks) when you aren't wearing the silicon socks.

You can also do a foot soak, either with just water, or water plus some bath salts or foot soak stuff. Silicon scar sheets or hydrocolloid bandages might also help with some of the deeper/open cuts you have.

Combine those for several weeks, probably in the order of foot soak, callus shave, moisturize + socks, then more moisturizer after removing, and I'd think you'd see a lot of improvement.

The babyfoot thing is also a good idea for you, but I wouldn't recommend using that until all of your cuts/open wounds have healed. I think the peels are basically acid, and that's probably very painful if you use it on open cuts.

If all of that fails, go see a doctor or podiatrist. Your feet are super important, and if the above interventions aren't helping, I think that's a strong sign your feet need some professional help to get them healed up.

Really? Think about this, how many AEDs would you need to prominently display on streets, in buildings, and parks, to get the same coverage as one drone?

From article:

> The ambulance drone can get a defibrillator to a patient inside a 12 km2 zone within one minute.

So at any place in this 12 km2 (4.6sq miles) zone an AED would need to be found within a minute or two to have similar coverage. This is would require thousands of AEDs, and even then in a panic situation you might miss it, and you'd have to leave the patient to get it. 1000s of AEDs are vastly more expensive than a drone and clutter the environment. They also need regular checkups to insure they are working properly. One consumer AED is $1000. There is no reason the drone would have to cost much beyond $50,000, but even at $500,000 it would be much cheaper and more effective.

Other advantages this drone has is that the caller gets guidance from a professional who gets eyes on the ground quickly. The drone could also carry EpiPens or emergency inhalers which can save lives.

> The only decent uses of drones I have ever read were: 1. To deliver weed 2. Photography 3. Spying on people 4. Scare birds away (from airports)

Some people have success with walking around on their heels for a few minutes each day. Or you can place a weight plate on your toes, or grip a dumbbell between your insteps, and dorsiflex.

By way of ameliorating inflammation, invest in a foam roller or stick and roll your tibialis anterior and gastroc-soleus every day and particularly before and after running.

And of course running on softer surfaces, avoid going downhill, work on your running gait to ensure you're using mid-foot strike, and be sure you give yourself enough time for recovery: you won't be playing any rugby at all with lower leg stress fractures.

I have the same issue. A doctor told me I had a sinus infection for about four years.

I actually ended up getting a surgery called a Balloon sinuplasty in my right nostril and I had my left one actually cut open. (Don't know the medical name of this.)

Overall it helped for a few months but my symptoms came back.

I too am a mouthbreather due to not being able to breathe out of my nose. Tis' a struggle.

It does help to rinse your sinuses out every night though. I use a Neilmed sinus rinse kit. It helps breathing a bit while I'm sleeping. I'm sure if you did it more during the day it would help too.

This. Sounds weird but it works perfectly and it has actually helped my sensitive, acne prone skin. You can purchase it at most drugstores and Wal-Mart carries it. There are many reviews online about using this product as a primer.

u/kongholiday · 6 pointsr/keto

Body glide is decent, but it kind of stinks after it mixes with sweat and stuff. And it's pretty greasy. I've tried every anti-chafe product known to man or woman and This stuff (Monistat Soothing Care Chafing Relief) is unfucking believable. There's simply no other way to describe it. I just wish they'd put it in a neutral package and market it to dudes as well. Boys have chub-rub issues too and I'd rather not have to include the feminine hygiene aisle in my shopping trips...

u/hobguy7996 · 6 pointsr/tifu

Now you listen here Mister. If you think for one God Damned second that your "Goldbond" is the best Anti-Chafing product, then you must not know of this stuff. I would highly suggest you give it a go. It can be found at your local Wal-Mart by the rubbers and pussy meds.

My partner and I considered that one and balked at the price before finding this mat for $20 that's linked elsewhere in the thread: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001IN46NU/ref=oh_o06_s00_i01_details You would still probably have to wash and dry the Liberator after each use, so with the Northshore mat you can buy a few and toss them in the laundry as needed.

u/GDIBass · 6 pointsr/Beatmatch

I wear these at every event I go to. I keep them on my keychain.. They have smaller versions too that don't block out as much sound, but do something (and are small enough to have headphones on with). I'll see if I can find them.

Edit: The smaller ones looked like these. They worked OK...

u/Malikot · 6 pointsr/aves

I highly recommend a pair of Downbeats. I absolutely love them and have gotten most of my friends to get some too. I tried the Etymotics but didn't like them as much since they stick out of your ear a lot and looks kinda funny. You can't really notice Downbeats unless you're looking for them.

u/mr_poopface · 6 pointsr/Ultralight

Right here, OP. This was the difference maker for me. I've tried several masks and can still only use this dinky little silk one:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GSO1D9O/

The trick to getting used to it was to not try to fall asleep with it on at night (impossible, right?), but to keep it nearby and go to bed with the curtains open. Around 5am when the sun filled the room, I would reach for the mask and the slight discomfort had no chance at keeping me from going back to sleep. A few weeks of this and my body associated the feeling of the mask with blissful sleep.

u/st8ofinfinity · 6 pointsr/LightningInABottle

I have a few solutions to this as i myself have gone to the extremes on sleep deprivation at lib. Here are a few game changers that made a world of difference.

  1. Your tent. We found that righ as the sun comes up sleep is almost impossible due to light and rockstar heat. We got a bunch of those emergency thermal blankets and lined the exterior of our tent almost entiely in them. This both blocks light and a huge amount of sun heat. They make it seem like air conditioning compared to not using them. Packing tape works very well on holding them together and allows you to customize their shape to fit your specific tent. Another tip is to sandwich or layer them between a fabric material to dampen the noise they make with the wind as they move. Those mitary guilly style camo covers work well too. You basically want to hold them down as well as possible to limit how much they move to eliminate the noise they make, which is like tin foil.
Be creative and innovative with these as they can look really cool too! Your tent will be dramatically more comfortable all day.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01LZN0KGB/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526521307&sr=8-1-spons&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=survival+blanket&psc=1

They come in multi packs to save money. Also if you have extra, im sure your neighbors will appreciate it greatly if you donate a few. The only drawback is the noise, so ensure you address this. Installing them on the inside of your tent is also an option.

  2. Sound. Earpeace hd earplugs are amazing
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B076VTXWBP/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526521562&sr=8-1-spons&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=earpeace&psc=1

I go to tons of concerts! These are exceptional not only for being FRONT ROW! but amazing for sleep as well. They are inexpensive and worth every dollar, and super comfortable!

  3. Brain spa.

    Onnit new mood!

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00AFB5U3Q/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526521888&sr=8-1-spons&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=new+mood+onnit&psc=1

Take these before bed. Such a great balanced formula and one of the best regenerative items ive found yet!
    Nuff said

  4. Light in the morning or anytime of the day.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00GSO1D9O/ref=mp_s_a_1_5_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1526522197&sr=8-5&keywords=eye+mask+for+sleeping&dpPl=1&dpID=31eeIOXqJoL&ref=plSrc

Ill keep this short, they just work, period.

  5. Cool as LIB!
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00XKLYWFU/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1526522342&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=cool+towels+for+neck&dpPl=1&dpID=41vWMI5EJzL&ref=plSrch

We discovered these and theyre awesome! We wet them down at the water stations which are everywhere throughout Lib. They feel amazing in the sun and in a wierd way are kinda fun, idk. Lol

  6. Bring vitamins! I recommend D3, ZINC, B COMPLEX, AND FISH OILS.
Make sure you keep these all cool and dry.

I recommended a cooler scenario in another sub, but ill repeat it here.

Dry ice in your cooler is the best way to refrigerate all weekend that i have found, minus actually having a refrigerator.

Tip: careful with dry ice as it can burn you and mess up your cooler if not prepared properly. Wrap it in brown paper to prevent direct contact with the sides and bottom of your cooler. Also, if you put actual ice around the dry ice this works too. We got a solid 3 days of awesome cooler performance this way. Cover your cooler during the day with the above mentioned mylar blankets for even better performance.

  7. Protein power! You need nutrition if you want to rage like a rockstar! Many flavors and its super fast and simple to prepare. I use mp combat protein, works well and tastes great!

  8. Bed/air mattress. One oddity we found with our air mattress. At night the ground and ambient air temp drops a bunch on some occasions. So the air inside the mattress cools as well which made for an extra chilly experience one night. We insulated the bottom and sides of our air mattress with a fleece or similar blanket which helped keep our body heat inside the mattress.

  9. Feed me! Bring good healthy food like apples, avocados, bananas, pita bread, peanut butter or almond butter. These are delicious and full of proper energy. Keep junk food to a minimum, but dont eliminate it, because well, sometimes cheese its are bomb as hell! You just dont want to be weighed down by garbage. Tip: the acai warrior bowls at the food courts are legit! And, try the poutine for breakfast! You wont regret! Also we found that Mountain house freeze dried packets are a convenient and awesome way to chow down. You'll need hot water for some and regular temp for the cereals and desserts.

I hope this helps. Unfortunately I can't be at LIB this year, so this post helps me cope with said situation.

I have many other pro tips if anyone is interested so hit me up

    Love you LIB!

u/Fjordn · 6 pointsr/livesound

I use these things here (Vibes) when I'm mixing monitors, starting to feel ear fatigue, or when I know right off the bat that it's going to be a loud night.

They're fairly transparent, and I got used to them after a few weeks of shows. A big plus for me is that they're extremely removable, in contrast to my molded pair. They also fit nicely into the Eargasm case, it you have one of those. Most importantly, they're cheap

If you want to make sure your plugs aren't affecting how you mix, every time you make a change with the plugs in, pull them out to see how it sounds without them. Do this all night, every night, for a few weeks and then you should be pretty confident about the translation between plugged and unplugged

I got high fidelity earplugs on Amazon that come with a little case. I take them everywhere. Literally the only time I’m aware of them is when I switch pants and when I need them. Best spent $24 ever.

They aren’t perfect, but when you find yourself in a loud place they take the edge off. I still tend to leave loud places, but you can’t really do that immediately without it being awkward and these things make that possible. I use clay earplugs and earmuffs when I really need to protect my hearing. That said, they are good because it seems to get rid of the super low base and high treble, but you can talk to the people you’re with. It’s a bit muffled, but not bad.

I use Boric Acid Suppositories when things start feeling off. I had about three infections back to back for a while and it sucked. Smelled horrible, itching, the works... it was embarrassing as all hell. I also go condomless and he finishes inside me; there’s no way I’m going to give either of those up, lol.
You pop one in your vagina at night (make sure you’re done with sex for the day) and let it dissolve. There’s a little bit of goop in the morning, but it’s not too bad. Just in case: DO NOT TAKE THESE ORALLY.
I’ve had a lot of luck with this one: pH-D Boric Acid Suppositories
You can use it as often as you like. I was using a couple times a week at first. After things normalized for me, I’ll do it maybe about once or twice a month. I keep a bottle in my night stand for good measure.

Edit: I too am an IUD user (copper/nonhormonal). I’ve had mine in for about a year and a half. Been doing the suppositories for about a year now.

u/mtngirl279 · 5 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Contrary to the other commenter I would say that boric acid saved my life after battling with recurring bv/yeast infections for three years. Even after visiting multiple (five to be exact) doctors who couldn't figure out the problem, this is the only thing that helped.

I drink kombucha and green tea at least three times a week and use a boric acid suppository (from Amazon) when things start to feel slightly off. I try to avoid eating too many sugary foods or carbs in a day and also eat greek yogurt with cinnamon and honey at least four times a week. These changes have completely gotten rid of my infections. Hope this helps! I know how awful it feels when it seems like things will never be normal again!

Hard to say without knowing what actually happened. But there's a good chance that it would have helped him, yes.

There are defibrillators that can be used by anyone. They tell you exactly what to do and automatically determine whether they should deliver a shock or not. There's been a study with sixth-graders who were perfectly able to use one.

Even a cheap one is way, way better than none and it should be affordable for a football club.

I too am "blessed" with large pore genetics.

My advice, in addition to the excellent tip to add in BHA to your routine, is to find a good foundation primer. If you can tolerate 'cones, I think that dimethicone-based primers are much better at masking large pores than non-'cone based primers. Monistat Anti-Chafing Gel is an exact dupe for Smashbox Photo Finish Primer! You can get it at most grocery stores/pharmacies. I get it at Target for about $5 in the feminine care section. If you can't do 'cone-based primers, I like KORRES Pomegranate Mattifying Primer.

Congrats! In the gymnastics world, your first rip is like a rite of passage. We're a little sick that way (ie: "ooh lets see! did it bleed?! oh wow, that's a great one" etc.)

You have 2 options. Let it completely heal the usual cut/scrape way, or let it heal enough to work on it- the gymnast way.

The usual cut/scrape way: use a vitamin e cream. keep a band-aid on it until it's completely healed. Avoid using the hand until it's healed.

The gymnast way: keep the wound open so it dries out during the day. Use a vitamin e cream at night/overnight (some of us go without). Keep letting it dry out. Use NewSkin on it before your next workout (this shit HURTS on a fresh rip and smells weirdly like bananas, but it's downright useful. fair warning.) Put a layer of tape over the hand (basically wrap once around the palm/back of hand). Do your workout. Wash hands after, rinse and repeat process. It will take a couple days, but the rip will heal/harden over just fine.

You can read a little about the science of snail mucin here. The article she links on burns mentions open wound management, so my instinct is that it would help heal fresh burns by providing additional moisture, but I don't think it would have a significant effect on older ones. Some people have reported success with ScarAway silicone sheets, but again, it might just work for newer burns. If it's a mature scar, I think the best bet is probably a fractional laser, or if it's pretty deep, a plastic surgeon. Nothing will really "cure" a burn scar and I wouldn't expect the snail mucin to have a noticeable difference. But hey, I don't think it would hurt?

Hey man, just a word of advice if you start doing this regularly, it's important to protect your ears with something like this. It doesn't actually plug your ears, you can still hear everything crystal clear, but it takes the harshness of the amps/drums out. I played in small studios for only a couple years and got tinnitis symptoms, so good to start taking care of that early.

u/Synopticz · 4 pointsr/cryonics

Good question. Some thoughts:

  • IMO the most important thing you can do is to help to do and/or fund cryonics research. There hasn't been much done and if you believe in the idea of cryonics, it's the most valuable task. There's probably some serious low-hanging fruit that we're not exploring to make the procedures better. Pretty much every step could be better optimized.

  • If you are at risk of a heart attack and live with at least one other person, you might consider buying a defibrillator. These things are expensive AF but if you have risk factors it might make sense. https://www.amazon.com/Philips-HeartStart-Home-Defibrillator-AED/dp/B00064CED6

  • People have been talking about personal electronic response systems forever. I don't know if there's any actual progress here (maybe someone else can educate me). What I think you'd want is, at a minimum, multiple, redundant sensors. If ALL of them show that you don't have any heart beat for a long enough period of time, they automatically call someone -- or even automatically turn on cameras in the house so that someone can check on you (you'd have to be OK with possible privacy invasions in this case). The false positive rate needs to be low, otherwise alert fatigue will make it useless. That's a high bar.

They suck so much because your pain receptors are exposed without anything to coat and protect them (like blood does for deeper cuts). Putting any sort of ointment on them will almost fully get rid of the pain if you manage to keep it coated, and getting some liquid bandage (Amazon product linked) will protect it from any air or anything else touching the pain receptors and completely remove the pain.

They are replacing a pair of Etymotic Research ER20s that I lost.

Note to those looking to buy, the Hearos earplugs are pretty small. I have to insert them much further into my ear canal than my ER20 (medium size - note they used to sell Small, Med, Large now they only sell Standard and Large, no idea how those compare to the old medium size) plugs. Hearos doesn't sell a large size and they are a bit less comfortable because of this. They seem to work pretty well, although I haven't taken them out to the club yet, just some test listening at home on high volumes. I'm not really happy about the fit, I may see if my Girlfriend wants these Hearos and buy a pair of ER20s in large.

You can buy basically anything on Amazon and it will come in a plain brown cardboard box. Under-the-mattress restraint systems work well and you can tuck them away when not in use. If buying things online isn't possible, you can get rope at the hardware store. If you do get into rope bondage, make sure to read extensively on safety. And someone who is tied up should not be left alone.

For a blindfold, I really like this silk sleep mask. It's very soft and it covers well without putting pressure on your nose bridge.

Check out /r/bdsmcommunity for more help.

I use this: https://www.amazon.com/ALASKA-BEAR%C2%AE-Natural-blindfold-super-smooth/dp/B00GSO1D9O/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1479715465&sr=8-4&keywords=blindfold

It's comfortable and easy to pull down.

For 4bld, 5bld, and mbld I also sometimes use blindfolds customized from artscow, comprising a U.S.A. flag, a U.C. Berkeley bear logo, and a plain white one with signatures of cubers. I don't use these for 3bld because they are slower for me to pull down.

How much luggage does he travel with and how many countries is he going to? That will determine what’s a good choice.

My fave travel gadgets have been

  1. battery charger, a large one that can go multiple days without charging. And also your friends will like to use.

You can Google “decibel reducing ear plugs” and select clear ones. They might also sell them at your local drug store.

If anyone asks about them, you can say that you have tinnitus or you’re trying to prevent hearing loss.

u/brick0fselfcontrol · 4 pointsr/TBI

I use two types of earplugs.

Vibes High Fidelity Concert Earplugs - Hearing Protection Ear Plugs Noise Reduction for Concerts, Fitness Classes, Motorcycle, Sensory Disorders (Tinnitus Relief & Autism) - As Seen on Shark Tank https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018WPOQSG/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_rWqODbPD5326E

These for when I need things toned down but don't need to be aware enough to, say, notice someone coming up behind me. So, places I feel safe. Theyre fairly comfortable. Designed similarly to earbuds. Easy to take with you and keep clean.

Eargasm High Fidelity Earplugs for Concerts Musicians Motorcycles Noise Sensitivity Conditions and More (Ear Plugs Come in Premium Gift Box Packaging) - Blue https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019M576XW/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_OXqODb425E193

These for when I have to be aware of my surroundings but can't deal with all of the sound because it's overwhelming. It makes things manageable on a good day, but they wouldn't do much on a bad day. They're really, really comfortable. Easy to take with you. Require a bit more care than most earplugs.

Both will let you hear conversation/tv/etc without issue.

u/blairewilde · 4 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I understand your pain! You probably have recurrent BV/ yeast infections. I dealt with this issue for years. Essentially, for reasons probably out of your control, your vagina is just not properly regulating its PH. It's a lot more common than I thought. Your period is throwing off your PH.

Something I found to be really helpful are Boric Acid suppositories. I used these and they were a miracle! (I think any type would work). Some women use them towards the end of their period to prevent any symptoms, some use them at the onset of symptoms for a week or two, and they seem to work for a lot of people! Read through the reviews and give them a try. Please remember, do not eat them- they are quite toxic. You put them inside,

I've used Downbeats for about two years and they get the job done real well. They stay in my ear canals well and have never fallen out so bumping into people shouldn't be an issue. They block out the highs and mids a bit too much and make the bass a bit overwhelming so I'm looking into other options.

I've been recently thinking of trying these out: [Earasers] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E2D9HAA/?coliid=I2M1RE39HLTSOH&colid=3RHLE0TX6YN3E&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it).

I've read good reviews about them so hopefully they're an upgrade but the Downbeats have been solid.

u/ProfessorBlakery · 3 pointsr/trap

I've had the same experience with these ones. Really any high fidelity ones will have the same effect, but I like the downbeats because they're the cheapest ones (they're only 13.99). They're also about as stealthy as it gets.

But yeah. It's really cool how well they work. I was never able to have conversations in loud rooms before. But with them in I actually can. I actually went to a house show where there was a full band with a drum kit playing in a basement last weekend and I was able to talk to people during.

Blindfold

Wartenberg wheel - I bought two, one for each hand.

I have a pair of clover clamps, but I rarely use them. They're very tight and painful, most people I've played with can't keep them on long, if at all. I tend to use plain old wooden clothespins most often.

u/IMKridegga · 3 pointsr/Metal101

Give this list a try for Cattle Decapitation.

Some other points:

  • Metal Archives is your friend. They keep a log of nearly every metal band that's ever existed (although they're finicky with metal-adjacent stuff so you won't find much nü or -core on there), so whenever you find a new band make sure to look them up. They keep a log of everything you could ever want to know; band members, discography, subgenre information, location, years active, and even similar artists.
  • If you want to branch out to the wider world of metal music, make sure to give the Subgenre Essentials over at r/metal a look. It's a splendid list of albums that spans the foundations of metal and will give you the context to appreciate most of the scenes and styles of the genre, historical and current.
  • Don't worry so much about subgenres at first. People are going to throw the terminology at you, but it's probably best not to think too much about it until you've gotten to know more of the genre foundations. I've seen a lot of people get very confused, especially around the edges of certain styles, and it's just not worth the headache. That said, don't write them off as a meaningless formality either, as there is value in being able to classify stuff.
  • Wear ear protection at concerts/shows. Just do it. Even if it's a small venue. Listening to metal is fun and chances are you'll want to keep doing it in the future. These ones are what I usually see recommended to people although I have these ones and I'm happy with them.
u/TelephoneMelon · 3 pointsr/misophoniasupport

You could try some hi-fidelity invisible ear-plugs. You can still hear people talk, but it turns down the volume significantly. I sometimes use them in restaurants to cut out the noises of the people at the other tables. It works pretty well for quieter noises that are usually quite bothersome like breathing or the more polite mouth noises. I own these ones. There are probably earplugs which block out more noise, but I find these ones to be a good balance between hearing people talk to me and blocking out some lighter triggering noises.

It's not perfect, but it helps.

When I can afford to completely drown everything out, I wear some wireless earbuds and listen to some white noise or instrumental music.

Hope you find something that helps.

Edit: I found these which are specifically targeted at audio processing disorders. They might be good too.

u/eva_destruction_ · 3 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

I can't promise this will help, but I had an awful yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis (I didn't ever go to the doctor) that lasted months! I was trying everything: garlic, apple cider vinegar, greek yogurt.. you name it. I finally stumbled upon Boric Acid. That link is to some boric acid suppositories specifically marketed for BV or yeast infections, but I just ordered the boric acid powder and put them in empty 0 or 00 size gel capsules. I ordered it from amazon but they might have it at your local pharmacy. Either way, it was amazing. Seriously night and day after just two or three days of use.

I suggest putting the suppositories in at night, as they make you INSANELY wet.

Also, I'm not a doctor, but it does seem like you might have an allergy, IBS, or some kind of inflammatory bowel disorder. Maybe try a serious elimination diet and slowly add things back in?
Good luck!

Edit: here's a link to the regular boric acid powder and the empty gel capsules I just used a knife to dump the powder in the capsules, it doesn't have to be precise, you can do two if you can't get the capsules very full, it won't hurt you.

u/youbetteryolo · 3 pointsr/WomensHealth

I used to get chronic yeast infections, but I use boric acid suppositories and it changed my life. You can read all the reviews on Amazon if you want. https://www.amazon.com/pH-D-Feminine-Health-Support-Suppositories/dp/B01KGFXSLQ/ref=sr_1_3?crid=273F69OOVL0L5&keywords=boric+acid+suppositories&qid=1566248616&s=gateway&sprefix=boric%2Caps%2C221&sr=8-3

I don't really have issues anymore. Having these on hand helps me catch an infection before it starts.

u/funnilizatt · 3 pointsr/SexWorkersOnly

Yay! I hope they work out for you!

Tips:

-If you're planning on having intercourse with one in, make sure your vaginal cavity is cleansed of blood. I know this sounds weird but you don't want to get residual blood anywhere. The best way I found to do this is put a lite tampon in for a bit. I don't douche so I can't speak to that (if you do, I recommend you using pH-D Feminine Health Support to restore the healthy bacteria back). Side note: I think every woman should have a bottle of pH-D around. It's a godsend.

-Practice a few times before you use them. They can leak and it's so embarrassing when you're going at it. Since my flow is heavy, I put one in shortly before my appointment just to err on the side of caution. Interestingly, I typically wear a Diva Cup during my period and the Softcup holds more fluid!

-Upon removal, they are MESSY. Perhaps I don't have much practice with them but if it's full...ugh...expect a crime scene with a lot of clean up. Removing it in the shower might be best, if you can.

-The Softcup won't get lost. It might get wedged in high and tight (that's a good thing!) but you can hook your finger and pull it out. See point mentioned above.

-I've never had a partner say they've felt anything while it's in. Win-win.

If you have more questions, feel free to DM me. Good luck!

u/capitan_jackie · 3 pointsr/PCOS

Ughhh I really hate BV - I developed it last year and it wouldn't go away. I tried metronidazole, probiotics, peroxide, yoghurt, changing my diet etc. and it would just keep coming back. Then someone on reddit swore by boric acid suppositories like these. I used one everyday for a week and that completely cleared it up. Now I use one on the last day of my period just in case because I read somewhere that the blood messes up the vaginal microbiome and the good lactobacillus bacteria die off (but this could also be a google based myth). In any case Haven't had BV come back in over 6months. The CDC also recommends Boric acid as part of combination therapy so its not so crazy.

I was a cross country runner in high school/college, and lots of girls used this stuff and/or anti-blister sticks to avoid chafing and irritation, and it's like a dry lube! Bonus, if you try the one I linked, it's just dimethicone, which is a main ingredient in primers, and I know some girls in college would use it for their thighs AND under their makeup as a primer, so, even if it doesn't work for the irritation, it could still be useful, so long as it doesn't irritate your skin.

u/kazaanabanana · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Lacrosse balls, pinky balls, a 'stick', TheraCane or its competitors, and my massage therapist has some of these that he recommended yesterday evening as a larger complement to what I already have (I have lacrosse, golf, and pinky balls, and a stick that I used a lot when I was running distance). Having more than one size can be important depending on what you're doing, but I used just pinky balls and a foam roller for years.

u/BenKen01 · 3 pointsr/crossfit

No miracles, but damn it hurts so good sometimes. I'll do some quick rolling during a warm-up (the limber-11 is my go-to, especially if I feel like my legs are "dead" that day) and maybe a little on my back or other areas during an off day or if I'm just feeling tight/stiff, and I totally think it's worth it.

I have access to the regular simple black foam rollers, PVC pipes and rumble rollers and the rumble is by far my favorite. I bought one and don't regret it, but if I had to buy again I would buy the half length one. After about a year of use I don't see the advantage of the full length one over the half length one.

The simple black ones are too soft for me, and I feel like I end up slipping off of the PVC pipe a lot depending on what I'm wearing, and I miss the little knobs from the rumble.

I also have the stick and from what you posted it might be worth looking into as well. It was originally conceived for runners, and feels awesome/hurts like hell on legs, especially if you get someone else to use it on you, but works fine using it on yourself. I use it less than the roller though to be honest, but I don't generally have knee/shin/leg issues. If you have to choose between the two, roller is all around better.

All has to do with quality and what its cut with. You could try chopping super fine. Or if you use this before bed you should wake up with a relatively clear nose.

This with warm distilled water every couple mornings is the very best thing you can do for it. It’s not the only thing I do to fight allergies, but it’s the best/most effective. In addition: every morning: Afrin up each nostril before brushing teeth, and some type of eye depuffing cream (It’s not just a beauty product! When you have allergies, this shit truly helps you not feel as swollen in the eye area.). I drink hot tea at bedtime and breathe the steam, and I take Zyrtec at bedtime. This can help symptoms in general but could also improve the effectiveness of his mometasone nasal spray (irrigate the sinuses, then use the spray). 1. Your tent will be fine, just don't be near the main roads.
  2. It's easy enough to bring drugs, but they do have dogs now and they will be near the entrances to the music area. They will have undercovers early on the road towards music and if you turn around when you spot the dog, they'll still get you. The consequences can be quite severe, depending on how much you brought and what kind of ticket you got for the festival. If you are wearing workers wristband, you are getting fired + fined by the festival. If you are carrying a lot you risk getting jailed "intent to sell". If the cops are in a bad mood, they will call the festival security and they will replace your wristband with a "warningband" - 2 warnings and you are kicked out of the festival.
  3. Condoms, credit card (note money are useless), a big power bank (volt is expensive and useless), sleeping bags, good hearing protectors like these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Alpine-MusicSafe-Filter-Plugs-Musicians/dp/B000VO8PR0 , rainproof gear, good rubber boots (even if it's sunny, some areas will be muddy). Food! Stuff that doesn't expire easily (nutella is always a hit), toast bread stuff like that. Try to avoid buying food the first 2-3 days, the festival is fucking expensive, especially as a first timer. Tarp! It's not a trap. That shit can save you when rain is falling and you realise there's a hole somewhere. Also, duct tape. There is nothing that can't be fixed/build on RF with duct tape - our camp has at minimum 8 rolls.

Lastly, leave the beer at home. It's fucking heavy to bring, it will get warm and it will just fucking suck. Buy the beers at the festival places, they even lowered the prices this year.

This has probably already been said, but have you tried anti-chafing gel?

u/hawps · 3 pointsr/LifeProTips

I live for Monistat's Anti Chafing Gel. And, this is going to sound weird, it also works as a great makeup primer. It has a similar consistency to Smashbox primer, which is like $40 a tube.

u/Belloved · 3 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I have the same problem and recently bought the Monistat primer and Skindivia Setting Spray(which sadly I got for 19 dollars a week ago without Prime so I'm really sad it's on sale now :( ). The monistat didn't do much to control the shine but the Setting Spray did completely. I lasted a good 6 hours without blotting and no shine! Soooo happy I bought this... Try it out while it's still on sale :)

u/_backpfeifengesicht · 3 pointsr/DIYBeauty

So sorry I don't have a DIY suggestion for you, but I have a cheap alternative that you might like.

I use Monistat Chafing Relief Powder Gel as my primer. It can be had for under $10 and works really well, just as well as an expensive primer.

I had received a sample of Smashbox primer and decided to compare the two. The Smashbox was a teeny bit thicker, but other than that, no difference except for you get loads more product with Monistat.

Check out the reviews on Makeup Alley: http://www.makeupalley.com/product/x_showreview.asp?itemid=98437

I got mine at Wal-Mart for about $5. I've also seen it at Target. It's on drugstore.com for $6:

It's more expensive, but you can find it on amazon for about $10:

The best earplugs out there are rated for 33 these are the ones I use at work.

I use them until they start to get dirty, If you keep them in a clean bag in your range kit you can probably get several trips out of them.

Some people say you can clean them but at 200 for $20 its not worth it.

u/azuriel · 3 pointsr/Frugal

Not exactly "frugal", but by far the best purchase I've ever made was this pack of 200 earplugs for $25. I've had to deal with living in dorms with a roommate and on a busy street, and being able to get to sleep and stay that way has been invaluable. Also great for traveling, hardcore concentration, and loud rock concerts. They're all individually wrapped, so I've given pairs away to friends too.

I spent the $25 about 2.5 years ago, and I'm just finishing up the box now. You can reuse them a few times even though they're "disposable".

It's soft on the business side and isn't noisy. Unlike the Liberator deal, which is repellant, it's absorbent and easily washed. It's very institutional and looks like what it is; an absorbent pad for bed-ridden elderly. My girl is so happy that I bought some for her. She rolls half of it up for round one, then rolls up the wet side and uses the dry side for round two.

I attend somewhere between 15-30 concerts a year, photograph dozens more and I'm wearing earplugs every time. I still hear the music fine, and I have the added bonus of not losing my hearing.

Every time your ears ring after loud exposure, that's permanent damage. Just think of putting in earplugs like you would sunscreen. I wish more people took their hearing health more seriously.

There's several different brands that are designed for concert use that will level everything out and just bring them to a more comfortable level:

I have not experienced those side effects, and I hope others might have some tips for you regarding that. I have a few things I’d like to suggest, however. These earbuds come in a size small and they might fit you! They are sooo good at blocking out the lip smacking and lip licking and SOMETIMES chewing if the chewing isn’t horribly loud.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0037KM8QY/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1549728619&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=hearos+high+fidelity+ear+plugs+small&psc=1
They are totally worth a try, I’d say. They are perfect because they just block out high frequency noises and you can still talk normally and hear others talk. They are my secret weapon that I bring with me everywhere. Everywhereee. Lifesavers.

Also, family has been so damaging for me because they really didn’t take this seriously until about one or two years ago. I get it. I think doing a meeting with your family when you are up for it might be helpful. Show them articles. Ask for warnings. If they are on board, it can help your trigger response and stress level if you don’t have to be on edge all the time. It feels like a broken record, but I constantly have to say “tell me if you are going to eat! Don’t eat until I’m out of the room! Wait a few minutes!” I’ll say it just matter of fact. If I am upstairs, I will literally call or text to ask if anyone is eating before entering the kitchen. It honestly has helped a lot. I have three siblings and two parents, so when we are all home it can get ridiculous. But basically, no one should eat in a car when I’m in it. We have to pull over at a rest stop. No one can eat around me unless I feel comfortable (which is not a thing these days, maybe one day!!). It is still a work in progress, but these are reasonable requests for the condition. I have to plan ahead and so should my family. Otherwise I am in incredible amounts of pain.

Take care.

It should be introduced throughout white belt level and tested at blue. Everyone should know how to swim, some sort of self-defense, and take a first aid/CPR course. Without those, you are a victim waiting for someone else to come solve whatever problem you've encountered.

You specify choking/unconscious, but there have been posts about heart attacks and other issues.

And as some have mentioned, there are untrained people doing what their untrained instructors have shown. Lots of people get worked up about fake BB and McDojo's, but tolerate the same level of BS in first aid.

Also- every gym should have an AED.

Like /u/Falling_Glass I usually just use Gold Bond Body Powder, but there are some other options depending on what exactly you are looking for. Bodyglide comes in a stick like deodorant, and it seems to have good reviews. Elitefts just started selling Dr. Greenfield's Chafe Shield, but I don't know much about it. Anti Monkey Butt Powder is another product I have heard about people using. There is also a Chafing Relief Powder Gel that works well, but is pretty expensive (and is marketed to women if that is an issue). Maybe one of these will fit what you are looking for.

u/razzertto · 2 pointsr/infertility

This is the stuff I'm talking about: http://www.amazon.com/Monistat-Soothing-Chafing-Relief-Powder-gel/dp/B000FKLKXQ

It works well. I don't have a big problem with chafing (despite living in buttass hot Miami) because of my build EXCEPT when I run. This or runner's glide is the best stuff ever.

Did Body Glide change their formula? I posted about how much I love Monistat Anti-Chafe Gel a while back and bought some Body Glide at the recommendation of others. I literally cannot shoot a .22lr without earpro, just the same as I can't shoot .338 Lapua without earpro...even with a suppressor.

I don't care if I lose tough points or if you have to yell at the top of your lungs to ask if I want a sandwich because I'm protecting my hearing. I know too many "no need for plug" shooters in their 40s to 70s who now can't hear shit over the deafening tinnitus they experience 24/7, 365 days a year...even in their sleep.

For general use I have surefire EPs in various ratings and they're OK, but mostly convenient. For my ears, I found that Hearo Xtremes, are the best at reducing perceived DB levels (way more than the surefire EP7s). They're cheap too.

I used the Howard Leight electronic muffs, but I usually shoot with glasses so there was a lot of sound leakage and pinching of my temples.

Would you be able to study or do your class work at the library? I feel like whenever I go into the library my brain forces me to study as opposed to being home and getting distracted by a million things. If not then you can also get these ear plugs, I use them whenever I have to study at home. They work really well and are comfortable. So I was going through exactly what you went through, I could read five pages and then think "what did I just read?" It felt more like I was browsing than reading.

What I do is look up videos on Youtube about whatever it is I'm learning and go from there. It usually gets me more motivated to learn as opposed to just reading on my own. You could also break down each page but it's very time consuming but it really does work. Just read each page and write a little summary in your own words about what the page was about. You could even do a summary every new section (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc). Also you should be doing the Pomodoro Technique. I feel like that's crucial for people with ADHD.

Ummmm orange color?:) My school's color is orange.

u/chubbychic · 2 pointsr/C25K

Here's what has worked for me:

  • Warm-up by walking only. Don't skip it.
  • Save stretches for post-workout when the muscles are warm.
  • Get a roller stick to work those calf muscles after your stretches. I use this one. You'll thank me later.
  • Ice and elevate, but not immediately after a workout. Wait until you've cooled down completely. I use these suckers to ice my calves.
  • Slow down. Way down. If it feels too slow, you're probably right on target.
  • Don't push-off the ground too hard. Focus on lifting your legs and letting gravity to the rest.

Edit: Pain is completely normal at this stage. Your body is simultaneously damaging and rebuilding muscle at the same time. Hang in there and take care of yourself.
u/LadyOfNumbers · 2 pointsr/xxfitness

*I have had tons of issues with calf tightness in the past! I highly recommend foam rolling and stick rolling (such as this one from Amazon ) every day until you build up calf strength. If you have extra money to spend, I find calf stretchers like these to be better than other calf stretching exercises.

Ultimately, seeing a physio would be your best bet because there could be all sorts of other issues contributing, but these should help.

u/Captain-Popcorn · 2 pointsr/C25K

C25k is as much about finding a comfortable running pace as it is about training your body and cardiovascular system.

It is important to listen to your body and slow your pace as the running distances get longer. Virtually everyone reaches a point they have to slow down to run for longer amounts of time. Speed comes with time. Right now you're focusing on duration. Its also important to give your body adequate time to adapt and heal between runs. Sometimes 1 or 2 days isn't enough.

Shin splints are a definite challenge. Not an injury that you can just push through. Search Google for "anterior tibia shin splints" which is probably what you have. You'll find suggestion to rest, look at possible shoe inserts, and stretches. I had them and found rolling them with one of these helped.

The Stick Travel Stick https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000P7PVWU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_R1cQDbBVK00PC

The anterior tibia muscle is firmly attached to the tibia bone. If the muscle is tight, it puts pressure on the bone. With running it can create so much torque that is creates microfractures. The pain you have is literally the feeling of the bone cracking under the pressure! Using the stick helps loosen the muscle over time.

I also found a shoe with a zero heal drop helped me. Sometimes called barefoot or minimalist shoes, they work on the theory that your unique foot physiology is custom designed to support you when running. These shoes protect the bottom of your feet and do little more. You might try some at a running store. Many people, me included, love them. I prefer a "running shoe" for walking, but only run in minimalist shoes.

The final advice is to research good running form. Coming down on the heel vs midfoot can be pretty jarring and stress the anterior tibia muscle. I read a book called "Chi Running" that taught a method of running and introspection to help improve running form.

Hope this helps. I struggled with skin splints before taking some time off and letting the shin splints heal and then coming back using "the stick" preventatively and using the zero drop shoes / chi running techniques and had a much better experience. But yours may not be as severe as mine and recovery might be easier for you. Just don't try to run through the pain. You're doing more harm than good.

Best of luck!

u/vonbonbon · 2 pointsr/running

The Stick is sort of the classic go-to. I bought a generic one at TJ Maxx and it kind of sucks, so instead of it saving me money it's going to cost me more in the long-run when I inevitably replace it.

u/trustifarian · 2 pointsr/running

Ice is your friend. In my experience, limit your runs on pavement as much as possible until you get stronger. Run on the shoulder or along the edge of people's yards if you have to. Of course that means being mindful of the terrain. You don't want to tear up your ankle tripping over a sprinklerhead trying to avoid shin splints. If you are in a completely urban environment and have no choice, make extra time to do these exercises. Do those exercises anyway. Invest in a Stick and use that to massage the muscles. Another option would be to put a handful of golfballs or tennis balls in a stocking and use that to roll over your legs. It'll get better with time. It probably isn't your shoes but your form may need some help. Try and be mindful of how your feet are hitting the ground, you don't want to shuffle by smacking your forefoot first, that'll put unneeded stress on your lower legs. You want a smooth rear/mid-foot to forefoot transition. Imagine your foot is the contact patch of a wheel. It will get better.

I'm on my second cold in a month and since breastfeeding means no decongestants, the congestion is rough. I just discovered this nasal rinse squeezey bottle (like a netipot but easier) and it helps so much. It's pretty unpleasant to do but feels so much better after and my sister swears it shortens the duration of a cold/flu. Good luck!!

u/ghoastie · 2 pointsr/Allergies

I might buy both Netipot and Sinus Rinse. They both do the same thing, but with slightly different mechanisms. Some people prefer one and hate the other.

u/Kr_Treefrog2 · 2 pointsr/popping

A sinus rinse kit or Neti Pot might be nice to help flush the gunk out of your sinuses. It did wonders for me after sinus surgery. It also helps with my allergies on high pollen days and clears out the sawdust breathed in while woodworking.

u/DickensBentley · 2 pointsr/autoimmunity

In the past year I've started having tons of strange symptoms, including alopecia and Sjogren's-like symptoms, which I'm fairly confident are autoimmune, although I was seronegative for everything, including Sjogren's, on an autoimmune panel.

At the beginning, I did have sores in my mouth, and I think that's largely because I was sleeping with my mouth open. Eventually, my mouth was so dry that if it opened at night, the inside of my mouth would hurt and it would wake me up, and I was also worried about tooth decay, gum recession, and vocal damage. Some things that have helped me keep my mouth closed at night are these nasal strips and this sinus rinse a couple hours before bed if I notice a stuffy nose. I used to prop my head up with pillows, although I no longer need to. When my symptoms were worse, I also used this mouthwash. During the day, the dryness was irritating, which just forced me to keep my mouth closed unless I was exercising.

Keep an eye on the teeth and gums around the opening of your mouth. For me, it's mostly the bottom front teeth, and I notice that I just need to make sure I floss often. My singing voice is also declining, but I don't really know what to do about that.

I haven't been able to get anything helpful out of the doctors I've seen, but I've been able to make improvements with diet. I track all of my lifestyle factors closely in a spreadsheet and analyze the data in python. I highly recommend tracking your symptoms, diet, sleep, exercise, supplements, and anything else you think might have an effect. I'm starting a group for people with autoimmune or undiagnosed diseases to talk about what's helped and hurt them, data analysis, doctors, etc. PM me if you're interested, and anyone else who reads this, feel free to PM me as well.

I have been through this. It is just awful to go through. I had no idea I could ever get that sick.

I had a friend steer me to start using a sinus rinse. It honestly changed my life. I rinse every morning as part of my routine. Now I don't get sick nearly as often as the rest of my family. I get maybe one sinus infection or year now, and when I am sick, I can barely even tell I am sick.

You need this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000RDZFZ0/ref=mp_s_a_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1483930290&sr=8-2&keywords=neilmed+nasal+rinse

It is weird at first, feels like getting water up your nose at the beach. More, after 15 years of doing it, I just love it. I instantly breathe better afterward.

It got so bad for me, my doctor told me he could not prescribe any more antibiotics. Now... I have been able to forget about it.

I am still going to get my deviated septum fixed, but there is no rush.

Get theee to the bathroom and rinse those sinuses!!

I use earplugs both for playing at home and when attending concerts/movies/loud events.

The plugs I got are from Alpine, the MusicSafe Pro. There are others like Etymotic, Eargasm, and others, but what I liked about the MusicSafe is that it comes with three different filters, so three noise reduction levels.

At home I when practicing either the electric guitar or the violin I use the white filter. When playing with a band at home I use the silver filter. When I go to a concert or loud event, I go for the gold one.

They are very soft and get molded to your ears after a few minutes, as they get more malleable as they heat. So it gets more comfortable after a while.

The sound fidelity is very good, and I can easily keep my intonation right (which was impossible with regular, flat filtering plugs). My wife also has her set, and we can chat easily wearing the earplugs because of the way the attenuation works.

I've had mine for almost 10 years now, same set, so I can attest they are durable. Relatively cheap investment for your health and peace of mind.

As a lot of others I also use the Howard Leight muffs, and for plugs would highly recommend the Howard Leight Max plugs. I've used both the corded and uncorded and they are the best earplugs I've found in terms of sound reduction. Whenever I can I wear the plugs and then on top the muffs turned up to near full blast. You get even more protection and can hear everything pretty much normally. Especially great for action shooting, keeps the buzzer nice and loud.

I use these Howard Leight NR33 earplugs

I always bring 10-20 pairs with me on airplanes now so that I can hand them out to people if there are screaming babies on board!

u/chahahc · 2 pointsr/Skookum

I actually find the Howard Leight MAX earplugs to be slightly superior to the Laser Lite earplugs. They also have a slightly higher protection rating of NRR 33 vs NRR 32.

u/oO0-__-0Oo · 2 pointsr/guns

Keep in mind that NRR means "Noise reduction rating" not decibel reduction.

With those Howard Leight muffs, best case scenario is about 8 dB reduction; more likely is about 5.

Currently the best consumer hearing protection outside of a full helmet (to prevent bone conduction) is:

if you slightly moisten the earplugs with clean water, the will fit much better, deeper, and have more NRR

"Liquid Bandage / New-Skin" is quite common in the restaurant industry, especially in the kitchen.

u/SoylentBrew · 2 pointsr/RunPDX
u/SirMontego · 2 pointsr/LifeProTips

There's a product called Liquid Bandage. It is basically medical super glue that seals small wounds. The biggest difference between Liquid Bandage and super glue, that I've noticed, is that Liquid Bandage takes a few minutes to dry. And you paint it on, so it might be easier to apply than super glue.

New skin before training. It smells and hurts like hell but I still use it religiously because I fear getting mat scum into open abrasions.

How long have you been training? Typically your skin will toughen up as you continue, the human body is more adaptable than most people realize.

u/DeLaNope · 2 pointsr/scars

Whoa, glad you are doing better. Those are no joke.

Removal... I don't know, they're fairly large and involved. Since they're newish, you could try keeping everything heavily moisturized with some quality cocoa butter, or try silicon sheeting. There's been some studies pointing to scar improvement with silicon, but I have no personal experience with them.

In time, the deep purple will fade, and they will become less noticeable.

A tattoo might help, but I would splurge on a good artist. I don't think scar tissue holds ink as well as normal skin.

Dating? They wouldn't bother me.

u/CrumbzID · 2 pointsr/foreskin_restoration

Is that due to the lack of the frenulum? I assumed if the skin gets loose enough, if pushed over the front of the head it would just stay as it were, at least when flaccid. Either way, this seems to have nothing but positive benefits. I'm going to go for around an hour of manual tugging per day, coupled with low-intensity tape holding the foreskin just over the glans for as long as I can each day, along with a manhood, until I can keep it covered on its own (I heard it helps with keeping the tape in place anyways.

Someone on a youtube thread recommended me this tape. Would this be a good choice?

http://www.amazon.com/ScarAway-Professional-Silicone-Treatment-Sheets/dp/B001AJ4L1E/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1463362764&sr=8-1&keywords=scar+awayThey

It looks kind of wide, but maybe that's a good thing. I could always cut it if I had to. Maybe it would help with glans scarring too, since it is scar reduction tape.

u/Snickerdoodleydoo · 2 pointsr/offmychest

I have scars from deep cuts I did when I was younger. They are one of my biggest regrets. While they are still healing clean with a gentle soap and water and use butterfly bandages to close the gaps. After they’re healed and don’t have scabs anymore use these. This will help prevent them from scarring like this. (don’t click if you don’t want to see scars.)

Also try getting her to talk to someone. Fixing herself is the only way she’ll stop.

u/APestilentFuture · 2 pointsr/ftm

Consult with your doctor first, but i would focus more on caring for your scars for the long term than hiding them in the short term. Take care of the scars so they heal more thoroughly. Things like scar away work pretty dang well (but are expensive because of the size of top surgery scars.

So this is a link to some on Amazon. I found some generic ones at the drugstore in the wound care isle for much cheaper. I don't remember the exact price but I can't imagine I would have paid more than $10. The box I have says they are washable and reusable for up to 7 straight days. Says it also works on acne scars, stretch marks and burns. I'm not sure about all that but it looks like it will at least keep that skin from folding over if you're worried about lines.

>I went to a dermatologist and he told me to just wait, even though i’ve waited for 3 yrs.

Wow, what a helpful and informative professional who doesn’t waste his patient’s time /s

A picture could be helpful, but does it look like post inflammatory erethmya to you? When you apply pressure to the area does the redness temporarily dissapear?

First daily sunscreen can prevent any more damage to the area while you try to treat it. PIE occurs when damage is done to the capillaries. Youtube Video by a dermatologist who works hands on to cure his patients redness If you don’t want to do anything that major the acne.org website has a really nice page talking about what at home treatment options tend to help their members. One of the treatments mentioned on the page are silicone sheets and I must say they seem like a popular choice I have seen quite a bit of anecdotal evidece else where online that these are very helpful. Example

u/Brockdog · 2 pointsr/acne

Your skincare routine looks pretty good. Looking at your pictures, it does appear that your acne had cleared up for the most part. I'd really advise against using accutane as it won't help your condition. The inflammation on your skin appear to be PIE, not PIH, so chemical exfoliants like BHA and AHAs will have limited effect. At this point in time, there are only two viable methods of treating PIE: vascular lasers (e.g. v-beam, pulse dyed lasers) and perhaps silicone sheets. According to anecdotal accounts, keeping your skin hydrated also seem to helped PIE fade faster. Outside of that, the only thing you can do is have patience and time.

u/HoldenB97 · 2 pointsr/morbidquestions

I used these on some scars on my neck and they worked pretty well. You basically put them over your scars like band-aids and the silicone on them fades and heals them. I only wore them for about a month, twelve hours a day and skipping some, but they made a pretty good difference on my scars.

As others said liberator makes a blanket but honestly this is what I'd recommend: The northshore champion washable underpad from Amazon!!! https://www.amazon.com/NorthShore-Champion-Washable-Underpad-X-Large/dp/B001IN46NU its a machine washable big like mat that's fairly soft on one side (not fluffy like a blanket but it's soft) and if you put it under you (you can get a big one, mine is like the width of half the bed) it holds an incredible amount of liquid and most of the reviews show that people are using it for squirting. There's even a now-famous Reddit post about it: /r/sex/comments/nvdnu/my_perfect_solution_for_squirters_and_the_mess_we/

It's inexpensive, totally reusable and easy to pop in the washing machine and you can buy a couple to have on hand. And waaaaay easier than washing the sheets!!

u/bqueen18 · 2 pointsr/sex

These things are the best! My husband and I use them and have hadn’t had to change our sheets. All of our fluids stay in the pad. I’m a squirter, so this is an awesome buy for us. It's not that expensive, you just keep it by the bed or where your towels are. I think it can interrupt the moment but for us we don't mind, just takes a second to run and get it and it absorbs EVERYTHING you can throw at it. Then you just throw it in the wash, easy cleanup

u/Taocayo · 2 pointsr/sexover30

If you need something that can really take anything you throw at it, and you dont mind the looks, you can't beat an underpad for $20. It's loved by heavy squirters and really messy people.

u/orsini1138 · 2 pointsr/movies

I just go either early in the day like on a weekday when there's nobody there, preferably a few weeks after the movie came out.

So I'm probably never going to use earplugs, but I=if you're going to keep using earplugs, check out Hearos like these, I found them back when I was playing in bands because they are super easy to remove and insert, since they don't have to expand like foam ones, and they don't cut out high end frequencies like foam ones either (or "muffle" the sound, so to speak). They're pretty cheap and I used them a lot since they basically just lower the volume instead of lowering AND muffling, I'd recommend those as my favorite if you're trying to find nicer earplugs. If you do get em, let me know how they work for you

u/seven7hwave · 2 pointsr/Music

Earplugs are awesome for going out to clubs, loud bars, and gigging. Downside: cheap earplugs are seemingly designed to make you look you have bright purple or blue cylinders growing out of your ears. Hence many people don't want to wear them. Even when they're flesh-toned and a bit less obvious, they tend to block all the frequencies and make everything sound like crap.

Here's my tried-and-true solution:

  • Buy a pair of Hearos. (I find the small size works better).
  • Use a pair of scissors to cut the top off the plastic extending bit, then remove it and the small cap underneath. This leaves just the rubber plug and a much smaller extension, so you can still easily remove the plug.

BAM. Now shit sounds good; the design of this plug reduces volume and those screeching highs, but doesn't make it sound like you're listening through a wall of pillows. AND because the plug is mostly inside your ear, you have ear protection without feeling all conspicuous.

No more going home with the echoes of the amplifiers ringing in your head, as Bob Seger put it.
u/s0briquet · 2 pointsr/Bass

I earned my tinnitus by going to a lot of shows over the years, sitting in on practices, and having jam sessions.

How do I feel about it? Well... it's never going away, so I've accepted it. I wish I would have listened to my elders way back when I was your age, and wore some damn ear plugs to the shows. I definitely don't head to a show these days without a pair.

How do I deal with it? - Like a lot of others, I sleep with a fan on. At the office, I listen to music pretty much all day, but I use a fairly expensive rig on my desk, because shitty, tinny sounding "computer speakers" irritate the shit out of my tinnitus. (edit: you can get much better "monitors" than these for less money. I got mine refurb'd)

So the logical question is, "What kind of ear plugs do you recommend". My answer to that depends on how much money you want to spend. I'm a big fan of Vater and Hearo's hi-fi. I like the Vaters a little better, because they come with that little sealed tube, which you can put some rubbing alcohol in, and they're always clean. However, I do think the Hearo's hi-fi ones sound a little better. At the end of the day, they're both good choices, cuz they just turn down the volume without messing with the frequencies very much.

If you've got a bit of extra scratch to spend, then you can go to the audiologist, and get custom moulded ear plugs. They'll perform the best, but they're also the most expensive. My friend had this done, and I think he paid $120-150 for the set, and lost them within like 6 months, and went back to the Hearo's.

u/ub3rr4v3 · 2 pointsr/electricdaisycarnival

We've used these and they were great. They just turned the volume down a bit but you could still hear everything great.

You have 'hooks and fishing line' in food then 'needle and thread' in medical. Couldn't 'hook and line' do the same thing here? (It's a non-issue for me because I'd pass out if I tried to give myself stitches) So the one addition that I've added to every pack I have, the BoB, the car, the truck, hunting packs, etc. is Quickclot. You probably won't find much stuff that serious from US residents. To even imply directions or attempt to treat someone in the US puts you a legal liability risk in the event some shit happens. If it's anything that they can't treat themselves, it's a job for professional EMTs.

I carry a generic first aid kit in my Jeep for roadside, camping/hiking stuff, focused on more realistic encounters. I don't carry FA while playing airsoft but the kit is in the Jeep if I or someone needs it.

It's all basic stuff that requires little to no training to use..I'll try to list some out from memory. Remember, it's mostly focused for hiking/camping in southeast USA.

  • 1 25G Quick Clot impregnated bandage with application kit (single use). It's cheap insurance and not that I think I will need to use this, $20 is worth it. https://www.amazon.com/Adventure-Medical-Kits-Professional-QuikClot/dp/B003BS2PW4/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1501681860&sr=8-4&keywords=quick+clot
  • Several yards of bandage wrap, 2 sizes on rolls
  • Trauma shears
  • Nitrile gloves
  • A few plastic tweezers
  • Bag of assorted Band Aids
  • Mole skin
  • Single use hydrocortisone packets
  • Single use bee/wasp sting swabs
  • Eye flush kit
  • A few compress/square bandages in different sizes
  • Medical duct tape
  • BZK wipes
  • Ibuprofen pills
  • Imodium pills
  • Antihistamine pills
  • Watergel single use burn gel packs
  • Ivy-X Poison Ivy/Poison Oak wipes
  • A few 4x6" ziplock bags for disposal
  • Sharpie

There might be a few more things, it all fits within one of those EMT MOLLE pouches. No tourniquet or surgical kit. That stuff is a liability nightmare and likely to do more harm than good.

I used hand sanitizer then examined the merchandise. It wasn't what I was looking for so I gave it back. I then went back to browsing. Finally I picked something out and came back to the cashier to check out.

I asked, "Do you have the hand sanitizer Maybe You Touched Your Genitals ?

I see some other ladies mentioning tape, and having tried basically all methods and types of tape, I think medical/surgical tape is my favourite. It’s quite clear, which is a bonus, plus it’s meant to maintain its hold to keep iv’sand tubes in place no matter how much the skin sweats etc so I find it holds all day no problem!

This is the type of tape I’m referring to: 3M Transpore Clear 1-Inch Wide First Aid Tape, 10-Yard Roll (2 Rolls) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005OFM6JE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_kP5qDb5T4J13F

My method is basically start at the bottom while supporting the breast with one hand and lay the piece of tape in a diagonal direction from close to where the gore would lay upwards towards my shoulder. I rip a bunch of pieces before starting and continue to lay them until I have good support and shape

u/kalall1 · 2 pointsr/EDC

Assueming you already have to bag. I would include the following:

2-4 pairs of gloves

1-roll of transpore tape

10-4X4 gauze pads

2-Kling roll (inch prefered)

1 ace wrap

2 Cat tourniquet (advanced training required)

1 bandaid holder

2 Quick Clot (advanced traning required)

1 Sam Splint

CPR Pocket Mask (optional)

I highly suggest you attend the following classes.

Same problem. I always used bandaids, even though they never really stayed well or provided much protection. But it was better than nothing, and I hate tennis shoes. Then one day I ran out and in desperation used medical tape like this. After you put it on you have to give it a minute to adhere before you put your shoes on, but it works wonders and I buy it in bulk now.

u/Captain_Kittenface · 2 pointsr/running

They were never a problem for me until I ran my first half. The shower after was extremely painful! Now I just throw on some of this transpore tape for anything that might go over 10. You can get it at any drug store for a few bucks and at an inch or two per nipple it lasts forever. As long as I remember to throw on the tape I have no issues whatsoever.

u/MechanicalTim · 2 pointsr/running

Yes, it helps, but I would not rely on it for a marathon in the rain. The most common solutions I've seen recommended here, that I have also tried myself, are NipEaze and Transpore tape. Squirrel's Nut Butter also gets a lot of recommendations.

So far, I've tried every gabapentinoid except Fluoro-phenibut. Out of all the gabapentinoids, gabapentin is probably my favourite, phenibut is probably my second favourite, and pregabalin is my third favourite.

I absolutely love all of them. It's too bad I can't use pregabalin more. I still have 50mg left from my old script, but I'm saving it for a really special occasion.

Tramadol is also an SNRI, but also a quite weak opioid. I wonder why it stopped working well.

You might be interested in NMDA antagonists like dextromethorphan/dextrorphan, or ketamine. They're pretty much the most effective neuropathic pain treatments.

Ket is schedule III, DXM is legal OTC (DO NOT USE ANYTHING WITH ACETAMINOPHEN, GUAIFENESIN, PHENYLEPHRINE, OR ANTI-HISTAMINES! Only use products with ONLY DEXTROMETHORPHAN AS THE ACTIVE INGREDIENT, such as RoboCough or Robafen NON-DROWSY)

EDIT: Since we're on the topic, DXM is also a weak SNRI, which you may like. DXM is mostly just an SNRI with a few other weak properties, but most of its effects come from its metabolite, Dextrorphan/DXO, which is an NMDA antagonist, SNRI, etc. I recommend trying DXM, it's insanely cheap and you can legally order it to your house

Amitriptyline is a TCA, but "TCA" is a chemical-therapeutic classification (its chemical structure is tricyclic, and its therapeutic goal is primarily as an antidepressant).

SNRI is a method of action (the pharmacological way the drug works).

There are 4 classification types for drugs, and mixes of them (such as the previously mentioned "chemical-therapeutic" class).

  • Chemical

This classification groups drugs by their chemical properties, such as "steroid" or "tricyclic"

  • Mechanism of action

This classification groups drugs by their pharmacological action, such as "dopaminergic", "Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor", and "COx Inhibitor"

  • Mode of action

This classification groups drugs by the anatomical/functional changes they induce, such as "bronchodilator", "antifungal", etc.

  • Therapeutic class

This classification groups drugs by their therapeutic goal(s), such as "analgesic", "sedative", "antidepressant", and "antiepileptic"

Extremely fair point, I guesshere’s an alternative

u/vanderpyyy · 2 pointsr/Drugs

At the very least, try to get your hands on some gabapentin or its brother phenibut. Your doctor probably won't have problems prescribing gabapentin. They're like benzo-lite and great for preventing seizures and GABA downregulation related withdrawal symptoms. With benzodiazepines tapering slowly is really the best option. It has the harshest withdrawal symptoms when stopped cold-turkey. Valium or Klonopin for slow withdrawal.

DXM helps with dopamine downregulation related withdrawal symptoms and NMDA antagonism for general pain. Kratom to help with serotonin downregulation and black hole depression.

Take magnesium supplements, because amphetamines are known to deplete magnesium and most people are deficient anyway. Magnesium helps with anxiety, pain through NMDA neuromodulation.

Propranolol for adrenergic symptoms like sweating, heart rate, blood pressure etc.

Buspirone, a very light weight anti-anxiety drug can help because it is a serotonin 5-HT1A receptor partial agonist. 5-HT1A is responsible for modulating all other serotonin receptors and has been shown to increase dopamine as well. 5-HT1A desensitization is linked to increased serotonin from all sources and is believe to be the mechanism behind SSRIs and why they take weeks to work (time to desensitize the 5-HT1A receptor). The autoreceptors must first densensitize before the concentration of extracellular serotonin in the synapse can become elevated.

Finally, outdoor exercise.

Dextromethorphan Hbr (aka your good old Robotripping). I prefer the cough gels. Of ALL the psychedelics and dissociatives I've tried, this legal substance available at every corner drug store has produced some of the most spectacular trips I've ever had (I'm talking doses around 975mg - only recommended for experienced users).

Be advised it comes in basically 2 forms: DXM Hbr (Hydrobromide) or DXM Polistirex. The mail difference is with the Polistirex the mantra is "half as strong/twice as long". So it depends on what you're going for - If you're looking for a strong psychedelic experience the obvious choice is the Hbr version. The Poli would be more suitable if you just wanted a really nice body buzz and cool headspace and be able to function all day.

And yea, no worries on a drug test for 2 reasons: 1) They don't test for it in the first place, and 2) it's LEGAL so even if it did show up on a drug test just tell em you had a fucking cold or something - lol

This is a great post, congratulations on this new understanding about yourself, as part of an ongoing journey.

I think most of us have been forced by our circumstances to become at least instinctive experts on burn out.

Before my diagnosis, I burned out badly at work and home, in retrospect it's obvious how big a role my traits played in that process.

Some of the cure is autism specific, I do think stimming should become more socially permissible over time to support mental health of autistics, that said I personally do still elect to mask a lot, particularly at work.

You can go a long way by accessing quality thought in the area of burn out management, even if it isn't autism specific, though that understanding is still a crucial factor. Keep looking and make sure you wind up seeing a clinical psychologist whose practice specializes in autism, though I understand if that seems like a stretch in the near term.

My recovery began when I read Peak Performance by Brad Stulberg and Steve Magness, because the whole book is about the ways people avoid burn out even while still pushing themselves to perform at their best.

Actually, I largely wasn't reading non-essential books at that point, but I could still listen to it on Audible during my daily commute.

In my experience as one of those folks with late diagnoses who may attract the problematic "high functioning" label, we do have to push ourselves to avoid backsliding, it's the burn-out management that is the missing piece.

I burned out because I didn't want to compromise. I needed the understanding I got from that book to give myself permission to rest, because it was the most productive course of action. Please do check it out. I recommend the Audible version, if that works for you.

Just as one more thing, I personally found noise sensitivity to be a huge thing for me. On occasions when my defenses are already low, noise is the easiest thing to push me into a shutdown (internalized meltdown). Thus, I found even when no one else was accommodating me, self accommodation with noise management was a huge factor. In the past I sometimes did this with earbuds or earplugs. Noise cancelling headphones are amazing, these days I use and recommend the benefits of a flagship model, for purchasing now that would be the Bose noise cancelling headphone 700. My older Sony WX-1000XM2 is also very good.

If you think noise cancelling headphones aren't practical choice at work where you need them most, I get that. Maybe then you need a discreet option. Check out the Vibes earplugs.

I JUST got a pair about a month ago and I've used them at 3 or 4 shows so far.

  1. I went with these -> https://www.amazon.com/Vibes-High-Fidelity-Concert-Earplugs/dp/B018WPOQSG/ref=sr_1_5?crid=22Y5VPOT50B3L&keywords=ear+plugs+for+concerts&qid=1554918249&s=gateway&sprefix=Ear+Plugs+%2Caps%2C412&sr=8-5

  2. I did not see any loss in sound quality, just intensity. The beginning of the show, stuff seems muted but as it goes on and the volume increases, it becomes clearer but just less intense. If you've ever used a guitar or a mixing board, it was like turning down the gain and smoothing out the attack of the sound wave. I've noticed that they sound better and feel more comfortable when I used the smallest size plug.

  3. Yes, I did notice that I needed to take them out to hear friends talking clearly...with that said, it also removed a lot of crowd noise and chatter so I was more attentive to the show.

So, you may want to use boric acid pills (you put them up your vagina) for the over night. I've got the same issue with the odor happening after multiple rounds and these things work like a charm. They dissolve overnight and everything is fresh the next day. Also, helps prevent BV (for me at least) and I used to get it constantly.

Just saying, to properly apply a tourniquet, you want to at least be ~two inches above the wound, which is hard if it's higher up since there'll be no room to apply a proper tourniquet.

Plus you want a wide tourniquet if possible, so he doesn't lose his legs.

Or you could have used QuikClot.

u/xVigilantAtWar · 1 pointr/bugout

For your medical kit, let me suggest a two parter -Trauma and Mama.

If you're going to need to make your way somewhere during a disaster event (natural, terrorist attack, civil unrest, etc.) you might find yourself or a loved one fall victim to a serious trauma injury. This could be anything from a bullet wound to falling and slicing your leg on rubble. A good small trauma kit could be the difference between life and death (assuming that your final destination has healthcare services). Here is a good light weight kit. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003BS2PW4/ref=pd_aw_sbs_1?pi=SY115

But hey, you might get lucky and that doosey of a fall you took left you with minor cuts. This is where you needed a Mama. This kit should have some antibiotic ointment and small wound cleaning supplies. You will want a few band aids of varying size and types. You will also want a few 4"x4" gauze pads and tape to get the bigger bobos. You want a few NSAIDs in there. Ibuprofen works the best for swelling, Tylenol works best for fever. Along with this you want to have an ace wrap, because a sprained ankle could add a lot of time to your 72 hour trip.

I hope this is bit informative when you go out looking for an aid kit. Remember, think about where you are going, how far it is, and what are some shity things that could likely happen. I know it's only a 72 hour bag, but make sure you can reasonably cover your bases.

I've seen a couple of suggestions for duct tape which is effective but a little harsh. You got the blister because of the friction between your sock and your foot. You have to eliminate the friction so the sock rubs something other than your toe.

Right now I'd recommend silk medical tape. It is very sticky, holds its adhesion well, and won't rip the hell out of the edges of your blister when you take it off like duct tape will.

DON'T use Neosporin under it when you run. The tape adhering to skin will cause your sock to rub the tape and not your toe. If you have a lubricant between you and the tape, it defeats the purpose. Same thing with a band-aid. The gauze part of the band-aid will just rub and make it worse. Otherwise ammoscanner's advice is great.

PS- I do the same thing with plastic tape to prevent blisters in heels.

Invest in nice earplugs. For $14, you can save your hearing and still hear the music perfectly (even better when there's distortion).

Downbeats are good, they are the only ones i've tried but they work perfectly.

New Years was the first time I wore earplugs at a show and honestly it was better than shows that i've been to without them, you can obviously still feel the bass and the music sounds loud but you don't hear any distortion and you don't have any hearing problems after the show

A few tips:

First off, make sure the stuff you have ONLY has DXM as an active ingredient. A lot of the "tussins" come with other stuff in it. Namely "guaifenesin". I made the mistake of not realizing this and got "robo rash" and severe itching. Both can be avoided by making sure the stuff you have ONLY has DXM.

I'd suggest going for the higher end of the first plateau (the calculator I used) for a first trip because a dissociative "high" is very different from alcohol, marijuana or opiods. You'll want to get a feel for it and you'll be sedated for some time, it lasts for hours from onset to peak and back down. Once you get how it feels, aim for a higher plateau. Something that is rarely mentioned is that your libido will be affected the higher the plateau.

Have some good music queued up. Very cool to listen to music while robo-trippin'

Liquid DXM has some alcohol in it. You'll feel it in addition to the effects of the DXM.

Be sure to do it on a nearly empty stomach so you have a "baseline". I've found that a completely empty stomach will prevent any effects. I've always had better luck with just a bit of food (half a sandwich, a few cookies, etc...) in my stomach.

For the future, I recommend these these. Nothing but DXM in a gelcap. No extra sugar, no guaifenesin, just good ol' DXM. No need to choke down that nasty syrup. That cherry aftertaste is quite un-appealing. I stopped having that sick/queasy feeling in my stomach I'd get from drinking the liquid.

Good luck, be careful and please let someone who can get to you physically know that way if shit goes south, you have an out. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

I weigh 170lbs and take four of these https://www.amazon.com/Robafen-Cough-Liquidgels-Dextromethorphan-Packs/dp/B00CSF8070 (five if I really want to be obliterated). 4 of those = 1200mg which should provide that level of trip for MOST people without a massive tolerance. u/mjxl47 · 1 pointr/Reformed

I work 2am - 10 or 11ish and the biggest thing that has helped me sleep is a silk sleep mask. Blackout shades were never black enough but the mask has changed my life; the quality of sleep has been so much better.

u/ashleywithani · 1 pointr/stopdrinking

This is the exact one I use Alaska Bear - Natural silk sleep mask & blindfold, super-smooth eye mask https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GSO1D9O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_-hRCxb38C2ZWA

I wrap a t shirt around my head in a pinch but feel like the mask works much better. It completely blocks the light for me and the tightness is adjustable. I've tried a lot of eye masks. For me it's big enough to block light and stay on. I like it better than others I've use because it's not padded, itchy or oddly contoured. It's simple and smooth on the face.

I hate sounds so here’s what I devised:

Musicians Ear plugs:

Pros: easy to hide, cut sounds well
Cons: uncomfortable for long periods of time, easy to lose.

Low profile ear muffs:

Pros: best thing for cutting all sounds, impossible to loose or break
Cons: not super comfortable with glasses, very obvious.

Sound cancelling headphones;

Pros; you can hear conversations super well but it blocks out the back ground sound, you can also play music to cut out all sound, socially acceptable, the most comfortable solution.
Cons: very expensive for good ones, they use batteries, they are fragile, they don’t cut out as much sound as ear muffs

I own all three of these. I wear sound cancelling her phones all day and at social events such as a diner or party since I can easily have conversations with them, I used ear plugs at fancy events or places that I don’t want people to look at me or ask me why I’m wearing ear protections (ear plugs are also tiny and great to bring as an emergency back up) and I wear ear muffs in class. I will link the best of all of these:

Sound cancelling I used, they are good but use aaa batteries instead of recharging them with USB: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M1NEUKK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_IbIHDb74TF6XZ

Sound cancelling of the latest and best technology (almost double the price but they are worth it if you have the cash): Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0756CYWWD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_7cIHDbGR2SXTV

Low profile ear muffs of high quality (they are on sale
Right now too!): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06VWJL9LG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_xeIHDb94GJN4V

Any “musicians ear plugs” will work but apparently these are the best ones: www.amazon.com/dp/B018WPOQSG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_YfIHDbZ20X0Q4

Oof, take care of your ears. Also they helps for focus, too:

Also also, having a tactile fidget helps to tune out distractions when you don't need your hands. These are nice, and very portable.

I am also an aspie, and I totally get it. I work at an insanely busy Starbucks, and the lights and noise, and constant social interaction really take a toll on me. I can't tell you how many meltdowns I have had in our restrooms. I recently bought some awesome ear plugs that allow me to hear people and interact with them, but still muffle the noise to a tolerable level. They are somewhat expensive, but so far, a month later, so worth it. Just reducing all the noise has cut my anxiety in half, at work.

Have you tried canceling ear plugs? They really helped me and let me tell you... I get uncontrollably angry with noises, specially when someone whistles. I can’t control it.

I bought these at Amazon, it works wonders: https://www.amazon.com/Vibes-High-Fidelity-Concert-Earplugs/dp/B018WPOQSG
It comes in different sizes, so the small is good for kids, and you can buy a cord.

It can work like a “safe zone” when we can’t control the environment around us.

These are by no means the best and looknlike pretty bad value, but just an example that there are earplugs that dont muffle sound, so you can wear them the entire time:

Bose ones are really costly about 300-400 dollars where i live, and i have read many reviews about them that they tend to last roughly 1 year before they break, i would be scared since income is rather limited. I have just ordered some of these earplugs to try out.

Thank you for that hump day reminder. I needed it. I was feeling like this week would last forever but hey halfway done.

I had front desk with Drama and she was only mildly annoying. She did ask a bunch of pointless questions. Stuff like "when did that window shade get put up?" It literally does not matter, AND she asks in a way that tells you she doesn't think that person deserves a window shade (they do).

We had a huge delivery today. Three full 3 tiered carts. I don't know how many crates that is because I didn't do crates, but on Monday we got 8 crates and filled up 2 tiers of one cart (each crate has books for us and our branches, 12 libraries total). Which puts us at around...36 crates today? PLUS what our own delivery driver brought in. The new person liked sitting and scanning stuff so I filed and sorted things onto proper carts, which I like doing.

I worked on the summer reading logs and got all 3 done (ages 0-5, 6-12, Teens & Adults). I think they look pretty good considering that I was just told about them yesterday afternoon. BUT I'm like hmm, I could make certain things completely different. There are some major parts that I need to keep consistent across all logs, but otherwise, I can do what I want.

I ordered these earbuds and I'm excited about it. I might actually be able to watch tv with Danger. Or really, just stay in the same room while he watches. And I'm hoping it will help me get through Xmas party (we are hosting) without me hiding in the bedroom. Reviews by people with autism, PTSD, sensory overload issues, were good. I have the cptsd and am super sensitive to sounds. So yeah. Oh AND you are supposed to still be able to hear the person you are having a conversation with. It just quiets the din. It might help at work when people are loud and having to overhear their conversations really gets to me.

It's really weird when people start taking off articles of clothing while I'm looking up their card number or doing something else to help them. It's gross and weird when the clothes are filthy and smelly. I don't want to see your belly, dude. Nor do I want to see your underwear, or your chest. Put your fucking shirt back on.

I had Nissin Raoh soy sauce flavored ramen with egg for dinner. It actually has a pickled bamboo flavor. I love pickled bamboo. I put it into MFP and it has like 95% of my sodium goal. LOL. I didn't drink the soup though, I just like it for a little flavor.

Shower today. I'm hoping my curls/waves stay like they usually do, instead of how they practically fell out after I used that deep conditioning hair mask. I think those things weigh my hair down. I got some curl cream stuff and that weighs my hair down too. Even with gel.

I was gonna get bub a new tablet (Amazon fire kids edition) because his is having errors and freezing up and I thought it didn't have enough RAM but then I looked at some reviews and realized that the problem is really Amazon Free time. They recently did an update and it's been super buggy. Good thing I didn't go buying a new tablet. It would have done the same thing. Hopefully they will fix stuff soon.

u/lostpatrol · 1 pointr/tinnitus

It seems you have severe noise sensitivity in the low frequencies and not so bad in high frequencies. Car sounds are mostly low frequency from the road and engine, and the bass from music at the gym is low frequency as well.

Three are three problems you need to deal with here; 1.) Blocking the loud sounds that you are sensitive to, 2.) dealing with the apprehension of loud sounds and 3.) the effect of the loud sounds on your T.

1.) I suggest you get a pair of earplugs that block out low frequency sounds. Vibes Acoustic Filter Ear Plugs Amazon might help. Quieton active noise cancelling earplugs are expensive, but they actively filter out low frequencies, almost like a pair of battery powered hunting earmuffs. Bellman ER20 is the only one I've tried, they work decently.

2.) The apprehension of loud sounds. It's important to not let T run your life or limit what you want to do. Get a cord for your earplugs and wear them around your neck or in a front pocket. That should remove any worry about what sounds can occur in a situation, since you know you have defense for it right there.

3.) Loud noises can make your T spike. If you're subjected to a loud noise that ruins your T for the day, so that you can't think.. then you have to accept that. There is no point in fighting through the day. Cut your losses, go home and recover for the next day instead. Some battles are ok to lose as long as you win the war.

As for masking sounds, this audio track is my favorite at the moment. It's boring enough that it won't disrupt your focus, but varied enough that it won't fade into the background.

It may not help you now but this stuff helps SO much if you have chafed, it will help soothe it. It does also help prevent chafing, although I've never used it on a run only in regular everyday life with dresses and such.

u/VicugnaPacos · 1 pointr/AskWomen

My hooded eyes look awful with eyeliner applied above upper lashes/below lower lashes as is conventional, so I always/only use eyeliner on my waterline. To prevent raccoon eyes later in they day, here's the tips and tricks I've cultivated over the years:

  1. Aim for the part closest to the lashes/avoiding the inner part closest to the eye, because the moisture from your eye can make it run. I use a pencil or pencil-like liner, but cone-shaped kohl kajal sticks are tailor made for this; you just have to stick it between your closed lids and rub back and forth, perfect if you're a little eye-squeamish.
  2. Using a small firm brush (I use a $1 elf concealer brush, works great), set in place using a similarly-colored eyeshadow or, even better, brow powder. I use dark brown eyeliner instead of black, so I use the one from my brow kit (Milani Brow Fix, can even double as a contour/highlight palette; a true triple-threat). I've found that brow powder has much less fall-out, I suppose from the matte-ness and staying power.
  3. Stamp loose (face) powder right up under the lower lash line. I've found this is the best defense against late-in-day smearing/smudging/tranfer! I also brush it on my brow bone, because my hooded eyes/curly lashes will paint little mascara lines on my brow bone without it. I don't wear often eyeshadow, so I'm not 100% sure if it's compatible with that; might mattify shiny/shimmery ones.

Not eyeliner-related: Using chafing gel for primer. Cheap and effective

You might want to look into CBD: it's the more "medicinal" part of marijuana that is used to treat pain, but it's non-psychoactive and legal in many more places than something containing THC (THC primarily being the psychoactive part. In other words, it puts the fun in weed ;) .) It's also a lot easier to order CBD-containing products without worrying about them getting confiscated in the mail (and if they did, at most you'd probably just get a letter from the carrier explaining that they're confiscating your package. Something like that is too small for them to bother prosecuting, but I doubt it'd even be confiscated in the first place.)

You might also take a hard look at your sleeping arrangement to see if your bed isn't screwing with your posture while you sleep. Beds kinda wear out after about ten years, so you may not be getting great back support which can definitely leads to some really annoying back pain issues. I know mattresses are expensive, but there are also things like memory-foam mattress toppers and that sort of thing, and they're much more reasonably priced. It may not be a total solution, but it might help.

Not being a doctor I'm a little hesitant to offer too many other suggestions, but the "burning" sounds like it might be chafing. A dry lubricant like Gold Bond powder might help, and they also make chafing ointments for cyclists that would probably work really well. In fact I just remembered that Monistat of all people make a chafing (here's an Amazon link, but I'd imagine it's available at a lot of regular grocery/drug stores too.) They also make chafing ointment "sticks" that look just like a stick of deodorant, which could be handy for travel or keeping in your work locker or something. At any rate, most of the anti-chafing stuff works well and it's cheap (in the $10-$12 range), so I think it's worth a shot. You'll probably have to get a little creative when it comes to figuring out how to apply it back there though ;) .

The numbness and tingling is often nerve-related and you'd be better off asking an actual doctor (ie, not me) about it. That's the part I'd be most concerned about, although I'm sure there are ways to minimize or get rid of it completely. If you have a Planned Parenthood in the general area (that provides LGBT services), that would be my first suggestion: they're very helpful and absolutely non-judgemental and they have actual doctors with medical degrees that know a hell of a lot more about anatomy than a therapist will. That's not to knock therapists, there are a lot of great ones out there...but they're not medical doctors (as far as anatomy goes), so I'd talk to an MD instead. If you go to PP's website you can type in your ZIP code or state (here's Illinois for you :) ) and it'll pull up all the clinics nearby, as well as the services they offer. Even if the closest clinic doesn't offer LGBT services per say, give them a call anyway because I suspect they'd be more than willing to help out.

Invest in The Stick and work your calves and muscles on the outside of each shin.

Stretch too!

u/GhostBond · 1 pointr/Fitness

I don't think it's possible to fix APT quickly and urgently, but I'd be happy to share what's worked for me.

1. The biggest help has been something bizarrely named "The Stick":
https://www.amazon.com/Stick-Travel-Flexibility-Therapeutic-Potentially/dp/B000P7PVWU/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1494192576&sr=8-3&keywords=the%2Bstick&th=1

It's been a HUGE help for getting my quads to relax and stretch out. Much, much more effective than a foam roller (though similar in function).

2. I took a baseball, sandwhiched it between my muscle and the bed, and moved my leg around. That really really helped me, I'm not sure why, but when I could get some muscles in my legs to move and feel it they came back alive - my hamstrings were really dead without that.

3. Like the first 4 times I did it, the "couch stretch" helped, especially when I tightened up the muscle on the back of my leg while doing it as he suggests in the video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZX1QMTdAC4&feature=youtu.be&t=2m16s

But after the first 4 times, I couldn't really make more progress without #1 and #2.

I've though of trying a Muscle Activation Technique place, but I haven't actually done it. What they describe on their website is the closest I've found to what's actually worked for me:
https://muscleactivation.com/about-us/what-is-mat/

P.S. Another thing I did is put a towel under my hips when I sleep, to raise them up. It's been a noteable improvement for me. I've read people saying it's best to sleep on your back, keeping pressure off your hips when sleeping, but I'm to used to sleeping on my side.

u/flocculus · 1 pointr/xxfitness

Ooh that looks painful and I want it.. This is the one I have, very similar but without the knobby things.

u/TakingSente · 1 pointr/Fitness

I noticed calves tend to like to stay sore for a while (several days) when you work them pretty hard.

If they don't get better after a few days, try rolling them (after warm up) with a foam roller or a stick roller, may help release some knots.

In addition to stretching, try a massage stick to warm up and loosen up your muscles. I also have tight calves and this helps a ton. I also massage the bottoms of my feet with it. http://www.amazon.com/Stick-Travel-Flexibility-Therapeutic-Potentially/dp/B000P7PVWU/ref=sr_1_4?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1451192783&sr=1-4

I ruptured my achilles last year (before OTF) and I still get tightness in that area and my calves. Lots of stretching, a roller and good shoes make all the difference. These stretches using a theraband 1 - 2x per day help along with regular calf stretches: Stretches. I use this Roller. Sitting on the floor and moving your foot while you roll out the muscle helps a lot.

Allergies gave me bronchitis a few years ago thanks to the postnasal drip (drainage) I experience while I was sleeping. I now rinse my sinuses 1-2 times daily with the sinus rinse I've shared. NOTE: that I use store-bought distilled water for it. Tap water can give you an infection. In a pinch, I'll boil water and wait for it to cool but it's not pleasant. Anyway, I haven't been sick since and I used to get sick all the time! It might be worth a shot for you too?

u/Tjerino · 1 pointr/Supplements

It might be a bigger issue than just taking a couple Sudafed would fix. Like a sinus infection or just deep congestion or some type of irritation that might cause fluid buildup. I get that floaty feeling when I have sinus issues, like from allergies or pressure changes from flying and whatnot. Might look at doing a saline nasal rinses (like this kind of thing) to try and clear it out. My nose itself isn't even clogged right now, but I can feel some type of congestion or fluid in my ear canal area and the associated floaty feeling. I have also noticed this sensation after heavy drinking sometimes, as you mentioned. I think it likely is a sinus thing.

u/terminal_veracity · 1 pointr/SleepApnea

Talk with your sleep doc about:

  • fluticasone: this is the generic for Flonase. You could even try out Flonase on your own as it over-the-counter now. Oddly though, it's a lot cheaper in the prescription, generic form.

  • azelastine: this is Rx only. It's pretty quick at clearing out the sinuses but it tastes awful when inhaled too deeply.

  • getting tested for allergies. The blood tests are accurate and simple, but expensive if not covered by insurance. The IgE test can at least tell you what to specifically avoid like cats, dogs, and certain plants. And the "food profile" can do a similar thing for foods. This is a lot more direct than just randomly stopping dairy/wheat/gluten or whatever is the villain of the month.

Also, it may sound nasty at first, but try using a nasal rinse. This kit is excellent:

My wife and I use this bottle. It is the best at getting a good amount of liquid up inside. The only downside is no backflow blocker. You will learn to squeeze while pulling it away from your ass. The tip is tapered and fits nicely against the hole without needing to push it inside. The water pressure this thing can make will overcome your muscles as long as you line up your hole with its hole. Also we generally do this 15-20m before sex and play around in other ways for a bit before getting into it. EDIT: DO NOT USE THE SOLUTION IN THE BOX. Throw it away you only want the bottle. You can buy this at Walmart.

u/Decepticle_Ronnie · 1 pointr/videos

If you don't want to spend too much, get what are normally called 'Christmas Tree' earplugs. They will hold down the sound level without filtering frequencies too much. You'll get them in most music stores. Just be prepared to lose them alone. I usually go with these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Alpine-MusicSafe-Filter-Plugs-Musicians/dp/B000VO8PR0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464628617&sr=8-1&keywords=alpine+ear+plugs

Together they give me the right amount of reduction but allowing clear hearing as the electronic system in the Leights amplifies the sound and the somewhat flat response of the Alpine plugs keeps everything still sounding right.

u/Bearmodulate · 1 pointr/gifs

I would recommend Alpine plugs. I'm a bassist in band & these things are easily the best I've tried for playing/listening to music.

You can of course get much more expensive moulded ones, but personally I think they're unnecessary.

u/sim667 · 1 pointr/AskUK

If you're literally just going to a concert getting a moulded pair is probably a bit of a pricey way to do it.

What you need really is attenuating earplugs, you can pick a reasonable pair up for about £20. I run sound systems at raves, which often means getting a bit more up close and personal with a sound system blasting sound than most, and I use the alpine music safe ones, I don't have moulded ones due to the cost, and the fact I know I'll lose them.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Alpine-MusicSafe-Filter-Plugs-Musicians/dp/B000VO8PR0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1505211413&sr=8-1&keywords=attenuating+earplugs

My friend has the elacin moulded attenuating ear plugs, which he says are great, but I think they were nearly £200.

Fun fact: Places with live music are supposed to provide foam ear plugs behind the bar on request (I think its even a legal requirement), very few actually do.

The problem with foam/wax ones is that they're really designed to muffle sound so you can't hear it at all, this will make a concert sound rubbish, particularly if its a band....... its not so bad for rave events, because a lot of what people feel there is from the sound, but also the bass pressure from subs, but this doesn't really apply to band music so much. An attenuating earplug will reduce sound, but won't cut anywhere near as much of the sound frequencies out as a foam or wax earplug will.

u/Bragnagar · 1 pointr/DJs

Well, i have always wanted to try these ones, they have interchangeable filters if need be anyway (I'm a musician myself). I can't try them tho, cause it's hard to reach amazon stuff from my country.

Bouncers there are absolute cunts, a friend of a friend wasn't let in because he smelled of weed... he didn't have any on him, he just had a spliff before entering the club.

That's a shame about the earplugs, I'm pretty sure one of the RC1 guys was handing them out over by the front right stack at some point in the night.

Also I highly recommend investing in a pair of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B000VO8PR0/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478532871&sr=8-1&pi=SL75&keywords=alpine+musicsafe+pro

If you're okay with using something that sounds like it's for women, Monistat makes an incredibly effective gel that helps enormously and lasts for hours - plus NO RESIDUE, which Vaseline and Body Glide sometimes has, and isn't something you want on your dress pants. And the tiny bottle lasts a long time.

Whoops. I didn't see your question about petroleum. I assume you mean petroleum jelly like Vaseline or Aquaphor? I haven't heard concerns about contamination with crude oil (from any reputable medical or scientific sources). Again this is a separation based on the length of the carbon chain, an easy separation. Mineral oil and Petroleum jelly are both non-comedogenic, which means they won't clog your pores. However, that doesn't mean that it is guaranteed not to give you acne. Everyone's skin is different, and responds accordingly. YYMV (Your Mileage May Vary).

There are 3 types of moisturizers: Humectants, Emollients, and Occlusives. Petroleum jelly is an occlusive. Which means it sits on top of the skin and forms a barrier that keeps moisture from escaping (just like mineral oil).

Some people like to use it as a makeup remover as well.

If you mean to use it as a moisturizer, here's how to maximize your efforts.

  1. Use the mineral oil (or whatever) to remove your makeup.
  2. Now cleanse your face (OCM or facial cleanser, I like Vanicream's).

I only do Steps 1 &2 in the PM. In the AM, I simply splash my face with water.

  3. Now apply toner, if desired (I love alcohol-free witch hazel.)
  4. Next apply any treatments you need (AHAs, BHAs, retinols, etc.).
  5. Now apply your primary facial moisturizer (CeraVe, Cetaphil, Neurtogena, whatever you like).
  6. Here is where you 'cap' or 'seal in' the moisture with the Vaseline. (Many people prefer to do this only in the PM. I personally don't mind it under my makeup.)
  7. Optional: I like to use dimethicone here to keep my face from being slick/sticky. Many makeup primers have dimethicone as the main ingredient. I buy one by Monostat because of the price. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0012ZNSWE/ref=twister_B013RDL0R8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

If it's the PM, you're done! Stop here. If it's the AM, continue.

  8. If you apply sunblock, do it now.
  9. Now apply your makeup.

Congrats, you're ready for the day!

As for using mineral oil as a natural, one-step body mosturizer, it's easy! Simply apply after bathing when your skin is still a bit wet (not dripping). You don't need much.

    I hope that was helpful!

Howard Leight 33db.

Ear plugs only block out the high end damaging sound, the low end (where people are talking) wont be too muddled.

However, what ever kind of ear plug you are using, you should know how to put them in. This page describes it

I really wish that I had known about proper hearing protection when I was younger and went to shows or was shooting guns. My hearing is fucked up and I will probably need hearing aids by the time I am 50.

u/dmukya · 1 pointr/motorcycles

Proper fit would be the most important thing to focus on. Get a Snell/ECE Full face (or modular) to minimize noise and maximize protection.

I would be worried about long term hearing damage from the extended exposure to wind noise. I never ride without earplugs, either some custom fit plugs I got at a gun show, or from a [box of disposeables](https://www.amazon.com/Howard-Leight-Honeywell-Disposable-MAX-1/dp/B0013A0C0Y/ "A box will last you for years"). You may also want to look into a Windjammer to further reduce wind noise.

To help with visual acuity, consider getting multiple visors and a helmet where changing visors is easy. It's simple enough to try visor removal and replacement in-store to weed out the bad ones. Think dark smoke when it's sunny, yellow for glare, and pinlock-equipped for when it's foggy. You don't really want to mess with goggles for the highway.

I'd stay away from brimmed dual-sport style helmets, the brim can act as a sail and cause discomfort at high speeds.

Consider adding a Bluetooth intercom system if you want to listen to podcasts, navigation prompts, or other entertainment during your long trips. Higher end helmets can be fit with nice, integrated systems.

For color choice, statistically, wearing a white or hi-vis colored helmet will tend to reduce SMIDSYs.

I'm a big fan of the Howard Leight muffs. Turn the volume up enough and you can hear better than you normally can. (I heard my phone vibrate in my pocket like it was right next to my ear) I used to hate wearing muffs because it made it difficult to hear people but with these I hear everything.

Humble white belt here, going more by recommendations I've heard/read than by personal experience.

> what exercises would you recommend people to do to make bjj training more accessible on a physical level?

The general consensus seems to be that the best preparation for BJJ is BJJ, if that makes sense.

So, ideally, you'd start attending BJJ as soon as possible - maybe there's a class today? tomorrow? this weekend? - and everything will flow from there if you keep showing up (and if you don't, it won't).

Come as you are, warts and all.

If you're uncomfortable with that, and absolutely insist on preparing in solitude beforehand, it seems the general consensus seems to be that your basic BJJ solo drills - bridging, shrimping, etc. - would help far more than any type of weightlifting exercise. There are plenty of good tutorials on YouTube.

> any tips on how to deal with mat burns? I don't want to be the weird guy that tries to wear socks...

So far I'm trying to just tough it out! My hope is that I'll develop callouses / welts / whatever-that-stuff-is-called-in-English sometime before the constant mat burn pain fucks up my sleeping patterns completely.

But hey, I also hear good things about New-Skin Liquid Bandage - you might wanna check into that.

> am I right in feeling that with adequate training previous to starting bjj my chances of sticking to it are better? I just feel like I was a drag to roll with because I lost breath so easily and felt guilty about it...

I honestly don't think so.

I think - and I apologise in advance if I'm being too forward or too presumptuous - this is a primarily a mental issue on your part.

Your pride is getting in the way of your development.

The feeling of embarrassing oneself, of making a fool of oneself, of having one's shortcomings stripped naked and revealed - all of this is extremely hurtful to one's pride.

If I had to guess, this, more than anything else, is what's currently holding you back.

I'd suggest trying to laugh about it. Laugh at your own incompetence, laugh at your own pride making a big deal out of this, laugh at the weirdness and utter silliness of this sport of ours.

I did so just the other day, when a pimple-faced little teenage lad tapped me out a dozen or so times in a row, all while looking positively distracted - I mean, he literally kept looking around the room, studying the other rolls while calmly tying me up like a pretzel, again and again and again. Others might have found this embarrassing - I found it both hilarious and highly informative.

Getting long-winded here, but finally, about the overweight thing: We have an overweight guy in our beginner's group - after warm-ups, you'll find him lying in a pool of sweat panting like he's having a heart attack. No one thinks any less of him for that - quite the opposite. Nothing but admiration to any and all who strive towards improvement.

TL;DR - If you want to do BJJ, do BJJ.

There are really effective things you can purchase at any Walmart or major pharmacy like Walgreens. There is a product called "scar away". Its basically like a reusable bandaid. The adhesive is gentle on your skin. Basically you place the middle of the tap over the opening tip of your foreskin with the two halves of the tape adhering to your skin. This will keep the skin from rolling back behind your glans, potentially even during an erection. Its usually around 15$ for a box of like 20 strips, but they are re useable if you wash them in warm water so that's enough for over a year. Why not just buy an extra top sheet or a super soft towel. Satin or soft cotton pillow case would probably work too. If you are willing to spend some money, you can look at the liberator/fascinator throe or something cheaper but less sexy like this. We have a the throe because my wife squirts on occasion which makes much more of a mess than what you are describing so that may not be necessary. That said, it's almost a part of foreplay when we lay that out.

A thick, washable pad like this one works very well. Also great for squirters. I find it easier to enjoy things when I'm not worried about the mess afterwards. I don't own enough towels to properly protect my bed, haha.

u/imbusyworking · 1 pointr/actuallesbians

Hey! These work great for me and my girlfriend! No noise, soft enough to just toss over the sheets and enjoy yourselves, and super affordable. They're machine washable and can hold SO MUCH liquid. On mobile, so here's the link [NorthShore Champion, 35 x 47, 50 oz., Washable Underpad, X-Large, Each https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001IN46NU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_BAhTzbXWZ5594]

AHH THE MESS! How do you ladies deal with it?

Towels don't cut it. I've tried these thick washable pads from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001IN46NU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) too. They work pretty great, but... they're not quite large enough all of the time. Also, the amount of laundry I keep having to do is getting ridiculous.

I know some of you have mentioned restricting it to the shower...which I could do.... but... it's hard to control. I'd hate to try to give it up too as it's kind of an enjoyable experience. (And a great way to fall asleep!).

Suggestions???

Definitely look into a waterproof mattress pad. They're great in general for protecting your mattress from sweat, etc. There are many that aren't crinkly.

There's an old post from /r/sex that suggests these waterproof pads.

I am in a similar boat... check this out for when you do have sex. I am a squirter and my man sweats like wild haha, this helps keep the bed completely dry. :)

Those will work, but these are the ones I was talking about.

Hearos High Fidelity - good attenuation, fairly flat response (barring some high end rolloff).

I'd recommend starting with them in versus trying to a/b or putting them in after you get your sound (trust that your gear's gonna sound good once you have settings worked out well in advance). Hearing full volume will fuck with your ears enough to where the attenuated sound just won't feel loud enough.

Here are my accessories in a backpack I take to every gig:

I'd add that you should get high quality plugs like Hearos, the kind made for musicians. They have a pretty flat frequency damping that let you hear everything around you for safety. You can get them at guitar stores or on Amazon. They aren't cheap, but they are washable and they last forever.

These ones, not the foam ones.

u/mrbigbigums · 1 pointr/bonnaroo

I've used HEAROS the last few years and am quite happy with them. They fit comfortably and drop the volume a bit (thus protecting your hearing) without negatively effecting the music. I believe these are the ones I use, or are at least very similar. The carrying case is very handy and I've yet to lose a pair.

Whatever you choose I'm sure will be comfortable enough. Just check the dB-blocking ratings and see if they fit your needs. And recommend them to your friends too! Hearing loss sucks so it's best to get after it early in life.

Before I got custom earplugs, I swore by these for “not TOO bad” concert levels. But I also used them for day-to-day life:
HEAROS High Fidelity Series Ear Plugs for Comfortable Long Term Use with Free Case, 1 Pair https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0037KM8QY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_45z0Db89E759A

And these for more brutal levels:

I’m sorry these will be visible, but the first ones I linked to will be less so. I have long hair which covers my ears, so I’ve been lucky in that aspect. Good luck!

u/timsstuff · 1 pointr/Music

I get Hearos from Guitar Center (or Amazon), the $13 ones are awesome you can totally hear everything it just lowers the volume. The cheap styrofoam ones are why people don't like earplugs, they don't know there are much better options.

u/_me · 1 pointr/motorcycles

I use hearos when I play drums because they let me hear things better while still providing protection. Not sure how comfy they'd be in a helmet as there are little plastic things that stick out of the plug.

I have seen this around for a few years now, and it blew up in 2017 when it got FDA approval, yet i have never seen one in real life, in a first responders kit, first aid kit, or anywhere else, usually i see These trauma packs in everyones gear.

do these suck or something? doctors or first responders want to explain why these just are not used?

u/futuregunsmith · 1 pointr/CCW

This one is pricey, but small. About the size of two credit cards next to each other.

This one is cheaper, but bigger. It'll only fit in a cargo pocket. I bought two of these from Academy yesterday, along with some extra QuikClot gauze and two SOF-T tourniquets. I've got one set in the toolbox of my truck, and one in my backpack.

I've got ER20s - They are the shit

  • They attenuate everything perfectly and allow you to still hear people in loud bars/clubs etc...

I take mine with me everywhere. - I'm a drummer and wear them during practice and to any concerts.

The only thing they are no good for is motorcycling, you still get a bit of wind-roar. I use foam ones for biking.

The only other downside to these earplugs are that if you're trying to have a conversation in a loud bar or club with someone not wearing any... you will get frustrated and end up buying them some.

BUY SEVERAL PAIRS - GIVE THEM TO YOUR FRIENDS!

I also have a pair of Alpine Musicsafe earplugs which are good but not as convenient as the Etymotic ones)

If you are going to be by the speakers and need even more protection, try the Howard Leight MAX-1. I bought a box of 200 a few years ago and still have half a box left (I use them for motorcycle riding). They're $20 right now on amazon and NRR 30 rated.

Are you able to realize, when you're being yelled at, that he has his own emotional state that has little or nothing to do with you?

When he tells you you're slow, can you (with a confident veneer) say something like, "Thanks. I'm real careful. When I understand everything, I'll be a lot faster." - are you able to do that and do you think it could work?

just get you some foam plugs. they work better than anything ive tried, and will fit in any ear, assuming you know how to insert them. you're supposed to roll it between your fingers and insert it while its small and wait for it to expand. they arent completely disposable but arent completely reusable either.. just keep them clean. box should last a year.
