I made this Pi controlled irrigation system. The goal was to make it as user friendly as possible. It is not finished yet. I had to get a working proto going as soon as possible because I moved to a different state and my parents are selling this house. Not to mention fall semester starts on Monday. I plan on working on this as much as possible on my free time and then make a guide and share my code with everyone so others can benefit from my work. If you want my current code and want to improve on it please PM me. Also, I would love it if you shared your version with me as I will implement it into my code. I want to share my best with everyone.

P.S. I did not document my code at all. I mainly hard coded all of this in the past few days since I was limited on time. I am also a noob on Kivy and this is my first big Pi project.

Edit: Below are the hardware

Landzo 7 inch touch panel - 40.88

Raspberry Pi 3 Model B - 39.99

32 GB flash - 15.69

DS3231 RTC Clock Module - 5.99

4 channel relay - 6.99

Uxcell enclosure - 9.99

M2.5 hex spacer screws - 9.98

Modified internal panel - 8.30

Total: 137.81

PS. Definitely could be cheaper. For me it sure was because I had some of the parts already available that came in a some sort of kit.

You can get a class 10 SD 16gb card for same price on amazon, better for bigger game files, as opposed to the Class 4 cards nintendo sells.

u/DJApoc · 44 pointsr/CCW

Actually, what OP wants is a "high endurance" card. They are made specifically to take the constant temperature changes and overwriting of recordings. Regular cards don't hold up in dash cams at all, and it makes people think the cams are shit. You just need to use the proper card.

I use this one and it's good: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B9KTLJZ/

Additionally, I use a set with dual cameras, and it works great: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B075S7W6FR/

You can already buy them stupid cheap. I have two SanDisk 256GB cards I got for $33 each. One is in my Switch. The other is in a drawer until I figure out what to use it for. Maybe my PSP.

Amazon had the 400GB card on sale the other day for $46

The 512GB card was on sale yesterday for $57.

Anything small, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB can be had for like $16 or less.

128GB for like $25

I have one, and if your budget includes $995 for the camera and about $375 more to get it up and running (batteries, LCD viewfinder, etc.), the BMPCC is still a great camera for beginning cinematographers.

If you really want to learn cinematography - and you don't need a still camera, I recommend the BMPCC. It is the least expensive interchangeable lens camera you can buy that has 13+ stops of dynamic range, a built-in 3.5mm headphone jack, can record 12-bit RAW and 10-bit ProRes straight out of the box and sets the shutter in degrees instead of fractions of a second (cinema cameras use degrees, still cameras use seconds).

DSLRs in this price class have about 10 stops of DR, no headphone jack, record to low bit rate h.264 codecs and you have to set their shutters by dividing 360 by the desired shutter angle, multiplying the answer by the frame rate and then taking the inverse. It's less complicated than it sounds, but it's a pain.

Here is what this little powerhouse cinema camera can do:

There are lots more examples in the [Pocket Cinema Camera group] (https://vimeo.com/groups/pocketcamera) I moderate over on Vimeo.

This camera is terrific, but its ergonomics and battery capacity leave a lot to be desired. You will also need to address the camera's high data rate storage requirements (especially for RAW).

But it doesn't have to cost a lot of money to get started. Here's the setup I use [Referral Links]:

u/jfb-pihole · 34 pointsr/pihole

You asked:

  1. "Pi-Hole puts itself between your device and the DNS Server and blocks out any requests to known ad and tracking servers." - technically Pi-Hole is a DNS server, but not a resolving server. So, it can accept DNS requests, but cannot resolve them. For this it needs an upstream server that can resolve DNS queries.
  2. "Over 100,000 ad-serving domains blocked. You can expand this using server freely available user-created lists. " - this is dependent on which block lists you install with Pi-Hole. If you don't choose them all, you have fewer domains on blocklist. I would change this to "there are a number of publicly accessible blocklists that can be added to tailor your blocking...
  3. "Blocks ads on any device, including those Smart TVs and other devices that do not allow you to make any modifications." This is not the case with devices that have hard-coded DNS in them. Unless you trap and redirect port 53 traffic from these devices, they won't use Pi=Hole.
  4. "SD Card – I use Sandisk Ultra 16GB Micro SDHC UHS-I Card 98 MB/s." For $2 US more, you can get the 32 GB card, which will reduce SD card wear due to the larger number of write locations. Well worth the extra money.
  5. "Install Base OS – Raspbian Stretch Lite" Pi-Hole supports a newer version of the OS, Buster.
  6. "PiHole has DHCP capabilities, which means it can act as your DHCP server and assign IP addresses to your clients. However, most routers can do this well as well. Check the FAQs later in this guide for Pi Hole vs Router as DHCP server." I think in this section you are confusing the static IP setup with the DHCP server. The screen is noting that you can either use the IP that the existing DHCP server is providing, or manually assign one. This is completely separate from the operation of the Pi-Hole DCHP server, which is configured from the web admin GUI.
  7. "PiHole puts itself between your DNS server and clients" See comment 1 above.
  8. "you can leave the defaults as is in the unused protocol (IPV6) will be disabled automatically." A Pi will give itself an IPv6 address, so the IPv6 won't be disabled automatically since you have selected to enable IPv6 blocking.
  9. "But leaving query logging on will increase writes to your SD card and reduce its life. I have already burned two SD cards in less than a year." I don't think your two failed cards in a year were due to Pi-Hole logging. Many users have the same SD card running with Pi-Hole for many years with no problems. Early SD card failure is normally due to a weak power supply to the Pi (or perhaps an infant mortality failure).
  10. "can be accessed using a web browser with the URL http://IP-ADDRESS/admin/*. IP-ADDRESS is the Pi Hole server’s local IP address (eg. 192.168.1.26 in this guide)" Or using [http://pi.hole/admin*](http://pi.hole/admin)
  11. "A lot more are documented here and here." You should also reference the terminal command man pihole , which will always be current for whichever version of Pi-Hole the user is running. Your first link is a 2016 FAQ (probably not current),
  12. "then make sure to disable caching and DNSSEC validation. These are taken care of by Unbound and duplication can slow things down" Neither will slow down unbound. DNSSEC validation in Pi-Hole with unbound already doing DNSSEC is a pass-through, and simply enables the DNSSEC output in the query log. Due to some existing DNSSEC bugs in dnsmasq, the developers recommend not using Pi-Hole DNSSEC with unbound or Cloudflared. I am not aware of any rigorous testing that shows that disabling the Pi-Hole cache with unbound increases the speed of unbound, but without the Pi-Hole cache your locally blocked results are not cached. The developers have not recommended disabling the Pi-Hole cache in any scenario that I am aware of.

This is my parts list from Amazon, I just googled Retro Pi installation guide and used one of the top results;

CanaKit Raspberry Pi 3

Samsung 32GB EVO (storage is entirely based on your budget and how much space you think you will need)

Raspberry Pi Case (lots of options)

Wired Controller (lots of options)

Card Reader (If your PC doesn't have one already)

Add in an HDMI cable if you don't have an extra laying around.

I used to recommend E-Prance Mini 0803 or 0805 but it looks like they're not making them anymore. They're great little guys that you could hide behind the mirror and they were available under $100. These days if you're trying to spend under $100 I'd say trying this one.

Some other general rules for dash cams that you should follow:

  • Make sure that it has motion detection so that it saves/locks clips when you get into an accident or whatever.

  • Make sure that it has a capacitor instead of a battery. A parked car in Los Angeles summer heat will get extremely hot and destroy a lithium ion battery. Meanwhile a capacitor will work fine. Dashcams with capacitors are generally made to withstand heat better than those without, they're made with this use case basically.

  • If they don't have internal memory, make sure to get a high endurance memory card made for security purposes like this. A regular memory card will be dead within a year... All flash NAND has a certain number of writes before it's effectively useless, and stand SD cards can't withstand the constant writes of a dash cam.
u/hazeleyedwolff · 16 pointsr/gifs

Unless you want an extra 16GB of storage, then add $200 so they can put a $6 flash chip in it.

EDIT: OK, it's actually $200 for 32 gb of memory that costs $15.

u/i_am_penis · 15 pointsr/technology

I mean, yes that sucks, but they also are the only ones supporting microsd cards anymore and you can get a 32gb one for like $20. If you've had a Galaxy device before chances you already own one and you'll be fine with your 42GB or whatever or storage.

http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-microSDHC-Memory-Adapter-SDSDQUA-032G-U46A/dp/B007XZM6VG

However, Samsung knew this was a problem with the S4and even issued a fix to give users another gig back, and now they turn around and do they same thing again. Microsd cards are not as fast as nand and not all applications can be moved to external storage.

Damn, no mics or lights at all??? Ok let me see if I can do this sub 5 since someone who's not me will probably criticize this harshly by saying something like "are you sure you're ready to even buy a camera" or "you need to spend as much on all your equipment as you spend on your camera".

Here goes:

Camera:
Used Gh4 ~$800-850

Mir 37mm f2.8: ~50

Helios 44-2 58mm f2: ~35

OR Pentax 50mm F1.4: ~55

Used Lumix G 45-200m F4-F5.6 ~200

This tripod - ~$100

Lighting: (Beware this lighting setup is mainly good for controlled, smaller environments. I would get it to practice/learn how to light when you can afford a better kit)

This post about lighting was low budget enough - $150

Black and White Sheets/table cloths: ~35

Work Lights from Home Depot or Walmart (Halogen or LED not clamp): <$30

Audio:

Zoom H4n: ~$205

Look up how to make a diy boom pole: ~$35

MKE 600 - ~340

Some XLR cables $30

Headphones to check if you're peaking ~150

Editing:

Oh fuck, idk nothin bout computers, Maybe go to /r/buildapc or go simple:

iMac: ~1700

Accesories:

2 64gb SD Cards ~75

500 gb or 1tb Harddrive: 35/65

Batteries (you could probably get a battery grip, but id get two off brand batteries + a charger for now) ~ 35

ND Filter -

Polarizer

All this is about $4200 and with that extra grand you can buy a b camera like a gh2 or a gh3 or even a g7 all with lenses to boot!

If you have a tripod, you can downscale 4k to 1080 and smooth out all your shots, so no need for a ronin

I hope that, ideally, prices will go down. Especially with this OPs new card showing up on the soon.

Do not feel intimidated. This isn't difficult. It'll take some time and patience, but it's very rewarding getting your system up and running.

Do not buy that over-priced garbage. The biggest gripe to the kit is the unknown PSU, and small/generic memory card.

This is a VERY fast MicroSD card you can find (128GB), but is more expensive.

If you're really worried about reliability, treat yourself to the SanDisk Ultra 16GB card. It's a pretty big splurge, more pricey than cheaper cards, and way overkill for Pi-hole, but that's the price you pay for peace of mind.

I'm not surprised to see fakes of SanDisk cards. They are extremely common and easily faked. You could try a different brand, like Samsung...

u/NHarvey3DK · 6 pointsr/M43

I'm sooooo happy with my G85. I've taken it around the world. Here's a list of things I've been keeping track of:

Microphones:

Get the Videomic Pro+. The differences are that the mic turns on/off automatically and it has a usb rechargeable battery.

Having to carry extra batteries are dumb. Especially when they're not rechargeable. Also, you WILL forget to turn the mic on, then your whole shot is ruined because NO SOUND will be recorded. Trust me.
You probably noticed that you can't look in the viewfinder because of the videomic. This Movo 4" bar will fix that.

Batteries:

Speaking of extra batteries, you're going to want more. There are two types: cheap non-decoded, cheap decoded, and OEM.

Non-decoded means you won't know how much battery you have left in the camera. Obviously that's dumb. Spend a little more and get decoded. I really like these OAproda 2 pack + charger. No battery lasts as long as the OEM, but it's close enough. Plus, the OAproda charger is much thinner than the others and charges via USB.

SD Cards:

I love these SanDisk Extreme Pro. I purchased the 128gb because I NEVER want to be in a position that I can ever possibly run out of space.

You'll want a way to copy the files to your pc. This Transcend USB 3.0 works amazingly, and it's $9 for a two pack.

Lens:

The kit lens is pretty damn good. But here are the lenses that you'll see people talk about all the time. Depending how new you are in photography/videography, you should know this: we have a crop sensor. It's not the end of the world. A majority of the people don't mind it. But when you're looking at lens sizes, you need to double the number in order to compare it with full frame camera's. But again, not a big deal.

Panasonic 25mm f1.7 - compared to the "nifty fifty" on a full frame (25mm*2=50mm). This lens works aaaaaaamazing in low light / day light / etc. But to get an idea of how 'zoomed in' it is, take your kit lens and rotate it to "25mm". That's how this lens is. Nevertheless, still such an awesome lens.

Panasonic 45-150mm f4.0-5.6 - I just bought this lens from Amazon Warehouse for $100. It's very well built and serves it's purpose (when I want to zoom in on something far away)

Rokinon 12mm f2.0 - Everyone loves this lens, but keep in mind that it does not have autofocus. Is it the worst thing in the world? No. But it's the only drawback so it's worth mentioning. I was doing some night time time lapses last night and man, this sucker was beautiful. It's WIDER than any other lens, so you'll capture more of the image but it DOES NOT have a fisheye effect (which is awesome).

DSLR Video Shooter's G85 guide was wellllll worth the $20. Most of it was pretty elementary, but I did learn so much more and started using about 90% of what he spoke about. Brilliant.

u/TheAndrewBen · 6 pointsr/AmazonTopRated

If you don't have a modded wii, the easiest way requires this, this, and one of these.

You download GBI, format the SD card as FAT if it isn't already, copy the GBI files to the root of the SD card, rename gbi.dol to autoexec.dol, plug the SD into the memory card adapter, stick that into the second memory card slot, pop the Action Replay disk in, and turn on the Gamecube.

Easy is relative but I think its not too bad for most.

If you do have a modded wii you need a regular Gamecube memory card, and SD card (regular SD, not SDHC or SDXC. the one linked above will work), and an exploitable game (I use Windwaker). Extrems wrote some good instructions on that method.

u/Takumivk · 5 pointsr/photography

I recommend amazon also. I bought a 16GB Sandisk for £15 last night. However if that is still out of your budget. I do also recommend the Transcend 16GB Class 10. I used one of these for about 3 years until I lost it without any failures and with good read/write speeds.

u/Xauric · 5 pointsr/smashbros

I would. That's what I'm doing. However, with SSB3DS being twice the size as Fire Emblem: Awakening, you'll want a massive SD Card. Amazon has some 32 GB cards on sale if you wanna snag one beforehand.

u/fzammetti · 5 pointsr/Surface

I can tell you it works great as a desktop replacement because that's EXACTLY what I did!

I run mine with two external monitors using this DP hub:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HK8V5KE/ref=oh_details_o02_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

...and I also have this USB hub:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IJU0K2Q/ref=oh_details_o02_s01_i03?ie=UTF8&psc=1

...which has a built-in gigE port. I also picked up a 64Gb uSD card for a little expanded storage:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007WTAJTO/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

On top of that, I picked up a 1Tb external USB3 HD from Best Buy for around $50, though I'm not actually using it now.

I of course have a proper keyboard and mouse attached. The only thing missing from the equation is the docking station, but that's pre-ordered.

Yes, the whole setup was pricey (around $1700 all-in for the 256Gb i5 model, plus $200 for the dock later) but it's allowed me to replace my desktop AND laptop that I sometimes used with one very portable and capable package. I'm VERY happy.

I use it primarily for various forms of software development, which tends to be more demanding than typical use... I can tell you it has performed flawlessly in this role for me the past few weeks. Everything I've thrown at it so far has worked as expected and with excellent performance. I've done some video editing on it too and that's been fine as well.

It's also not bad for the somewhat limited gaming I do. I still play the original Halo and Postal 2, but nothing more demanding. I've run all the 3DMark demos on it too and it perform well up until about two versions ago, so my take is if you're looking for games no newer than about 2-3 years ago you're going to be fine, anything newer might not work out as well (at best you'll likely have to crank settings down). If you want better gaming I'd suggest the i7 is what you want... better GPU in addition to the CPU bump. I originally planned to get that but I got impatient :) The i5 has been fine for me though.

u/NotWrongJustAnAsshol · 5 pointsr/Games

They're still cheaper, by a wide margin. Benchmarks put the Vita cards at under 8MB/s read and under 8MB/s write. Meanwhile, a Sandisk Ultra 32GB microSD is $25.40 on Amazon, and it benchmarks over 17MB/s read and over 10MB/s write.

Edit: Product page -- benchmarks are in customer images

u/clin0048 · 5 pointsr/GalaxyS7

I don't know what your definition of "cheap" is but I ended up going this direction - http://amzn.com/B00W77C1QU - it's a brand I've used in the past and the reviews (with speed tests) looked promising. $25 for a (reliable brand) 64gb U3 card was tough to beat in my shopping around.

u/LOOKITSADAM · 5 pointsr/homelab

I got the good shit, or at least as good as it gets.

u/disarmedflea · 5 pointsr/HTC10

I recommend you not to use Adoptable Storage. The card you chose is slow compared to storage chips on the phone and that could cause problems with apps. In specs sheet of most cards, write speed is not even written, which is generally like ~8-10 time slower than read speed. Always check for write speed since you are going to take photos and videos.

If you still want to use Adoptable Storage, go for Samsung ones with UHS-3 like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DOB6YUQ/ref=psdc_3015433011_t1_B01CO48M36

You can also get Evo+, Pro (for general usage, 1080p videos, without adoptable storage) or Pro+ ones but those looks like discontinued. Evo Select looks like the new series.

But you can save your photos directly to SD card even if you do not use Adoptable Storage, but still recommend to get a UHS-3 card minimum.

Also, when you first activate your phone, you should have got an offer from Google. 100GB cloud storage, use that too if you have forgotten you have activated it.

Also, beware that some sellers on Amazon are selling counterfeit cards. Always check that "Ships from and sold by Amazon.com" is written while buying SD cards.

u/nerdmania · 5 pointsr/GH5

I use that card without problems. Were you trying to record at 400Mbps? It won't work for that. Works fine for 100Mbps or 150Mbps, though

I consider Sandisk microSD cards to be cheap and unreliable. Ive been using Samsung Endurance cards with always recording the past 6 months without issues in my 6 wyze cams:

u/mandudebreh · 4 pointsr/dashcams

Yeah it can be a bit overwhelming. There are a lot of options and unfortunately, a lot of shit cams from China.

The selection you have picked out is good. I think you did a good job picking out the features of each cam, so go with what’s most important to you.

Dual cams are certainly nice. Some things like GPS logger are more gimmicks than actual useful features. Also regarding app use, it’s generally slow file transfer for all apps.

I’d go with the Rexing V1P Pro or check out the A129 Duo.

Also, if your camera doesn’t come with an AD card, make sure to get a high endurance model like this SanDisk. Dashcams place a lot of read write cycles on the cards so regular ones fail often.

The D750 has a better Autofocus module, tilting screen, better video, better battery life, and a bunch of minor advantages. Image quality is indistinguishable.

The 24-70 is a top-of-the-line zoom lens. It will work the same on both bodies (as will all other lenses to my knowledge).

Batteries are included, but you need to get an SD Card. I'd recommend the Sandisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s.

u/provideocreator · 4 pointsr/videography

Here's what I would do for a 2 camera setup:

Main camera (with stabilization): Panasonic GH5 with 12-35mm f2.8 lens for $2395.98

Secondary camera (with kit lens and microphone, usually on a tripod): Panasonic G7 for $499.99

Two SanDisk Extreme Pro cards: $46.80

So far you're at $2942.77, leaving $2057.23 for audio and lighting accessories.

For lighting, you can get a 3 Panel Aputure kit for $725 that can be powered off batteries or wall power, depending on where you're filming.

Audio can be handled in two ways: first, you can get a wireless kit for voice and interviews and that can record directly into the camera. Take a look at the $329.00 Rode RodeLink kit for that.

The second option is an on-camera audio recorder (instead of a microphone). There are cables you can get to connect these directly to the camera for recording, or you can record within the device itself and sync it later. The reason I suggest this is because of versatility. If you get a Zoom H5 recorder for $249.99 you can pick up different microphone capsules for a variety of audio situations. Like a shotgun microphone for example. You can also plug in and record a regular XLR microphone with these recorders.

The audio and lighting setup adds $1303.99 to the cost, leaving $753.24. The last thing is to get a Pelican 1510 case for $199.99 to protect the camera and your audio equipment.

At the end, this leaves you with $553.25 extra. That's a good thing, since you'll inevitably need more equipment or accessories as you get started, and you don't want to find out about that after blowing through the entire budget.

The suggestion you got from HCR would be a poor decision. Don't go spending everything on a single camera that's way our of your skill level and packed with unnecessary features. The reality is you'll be able to get better footage out of the GH5 with lighting and audio anyways.

Idk I buy the more expensive samsung endurance cards for my a119. I would trust that one a lot more than this for longevity. Been using mine for 7 months so far and no issues.

I just got this one in the mail.

Checklist:

  • reputable brand
  • Unscrupulous brands may sell very small cards and label them as very large cards; some brands also spontaneously dump their information and stop working. Read the reviews! Brands commonly sold in physical stores such as SanDisk and Kensington are usually trustworthy.
  • reputable seller
  • If you're buying on Amazon, make sure it ships from and is sold by Amazon.com, not SUPER AWESOME ELECTRONICS EXPRESS. If you're elsewhere on the web, make sure it's a very reputable online dealer (TigerDirect, newegg) or has a physical store counterpart (BestBuy.com, Radioshack.com). I'd definitely recommend buying online from a web-only retailer; the prices are MUCH better online.
  • 32 GB or lower
  • It's possible to go higher than 32 GB, but you have to do some special formatting tricks and 32 GB is a ludicrous amount of space anyway. Consider that a very large game still only takes maybe 2 GB; you need 16 very large games to fill that puppy. 32 GB is totally fine and pretty cheap.

    Other notes:

The "class" of the card refers to the read/write speed. Apparently it doesn't make any difference in gameplay and the system itself, but when you transfer files from your SD card to your computer (transferring to a different SD card or uploading a screenshot to Facebook for example) the higher the class, the less you have to wait. I'd recommend a class 4; it seems to be the most common class and works just fine for me.
u/ASFx · 4 pointsr/3DS

Got the 32GB Sandisk here and it's been amazing.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007JRB0RE/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I compared it with the speed of a class 10 sandisk extreme card I had, and there was absolutely no difference in loading/save time. I think the read/write on the 3DS is capped at a certain speed and anything higher than that doesn't matter. From the research i've done, it's more about the brand you get than anything else. People have tried lesser known brands and they ended up getting read/write errors, or sometimes it didn't show up at all. Sandisk and sony cards are good choices though.

u/possiblydaydreaming · 4 pointsr/dogs

It's not problem! I love photography & talking about it :) I'm just a hobbyist and have had the 6D for about 2 years... but took a year off from photography after my recently passed dog sick and I lost the desire. Puppy is helping bring it back :) I just did nature stuff before... so I'm learning how the heck to photograph moving puppies.

Oooh, I bought the 1.8 just a few days ago specifically for puppy pics (yeah, I'm obsessed!) because I read it had one of the fastest AF and I agree, it's the fastest I've used. I noticed a difference in my captured shots immediately! It focuses SUPER FAST. The 6D is known to be a bit funky with the AF system but I believe the 7D is great and often used for sports? So maybe picking up that lens would give you the bokeh you love with better AF. :) I really want to get into photographing shelter dogs someday. Puppy is good practice!

I also shoot in raw. I also picked up a new SD card that allows photos to write much faster to the disk and helps with burst shots. I was using a pretty generic one before and picked this one up and I have to agree it is writing faster to the disk now.

I do... well, Missy does have an insta! It's HelloMissMissy. Fair warning, it's just photos of her and I post way too much :P

u/DesignNomad · 4 pointsr/gopro

Here's what he's really offering you after you sift out all of his BS copypasta and MSRP prices.

  • Hero2: Outdoor Edition (all of the adhesive mounts, skeletons doors, etc. that he says are additional are actually just the standard kit for this pack) ALSO NOTE: Unless I'm overlooking it, he's keeping the vented helmet mount and the head-strap mount for himself. THIS IS A RIP OFF. You can get this FULL kit on Amazon for $240.
  • Gen 1 Wifi Bacpac and remote kit (This is $79 straight from GoPro, free shipping, not $99)
  • Gen 1 LCD Bacpac (again, this is only $69 straight from GoPro)
  • 32GB Memory card (doesn't say what kind... but most of us use the $25 Class 10 Sandisk, which works with both the Hero2 and Hero3 cams. No need to spend "$58")

Ultimately, you could buy this all brand-spanking-new for ~$413.

BUT, he's taking TWO mounts for himself that would cost you $30 to replace, he's not including the card, and his camera has been used.

I've seen Hero2's for as low as $150 on Craigslist, and see them COMMONLY for $200 with a few accessories.

My opinion is that this is a bad deal. I would not take it.

EDIT: I just checked my local craigslist. There are 2 for sale, one is camera and case only (no accessories or card) for $170, and the other is for the camera, case, and a few mounts for $175. Your deal is bad... UNLESS you want EXACTLY those accessories.
u/BlakDrgn · 4 pointsr/Dashcam

Was a beta tester for this unit. I love mine, but my daily is the DezlCam. (trucking gps, dashcam combo)

I will warn you about large SD cards tho. Having more footage isnt always best. Remember, if its on the card, it can be used against you. Even if the incident isnt your fault. (think driving history, habits, etc)

I -HIGHLY- recommend getting a High Endurance card from Sandisk

And dont leave saved footage on ANY card for long periods of time. The more locked data on a card, the less the camera has to write to, meaning it rewrites a smaller area much more often, wearing out the card.

u/SweetDig · 4 pointsr/Wellthatsucks

I use this one https://www.amazon.com/Ampulla-Cruiser-160%C2%B0Ultra-Dashboard-G-Sensor/dp/B07BBS6MGV/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1539135959&sr=8-3&keywords=ampulla+dash+cam

Sometimes it comes with a 32GB SDCard, if not pick up a Samsung EVO SDCard as these tolerate outdoor conditions better.
I have this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Class-Micro-Adapter-MB-MC32DA/dp/B00WR4IJBE/ref=sr_1_10?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1539138484&sr=1-10&keywords=samsung+evo+micro+sd

Files are stored in two locations on the card EVENTS and VIDEO. The EVENTS folder will contain triggered video such as excessive g-forces from a crash or if you press the lock button to save current running video segment.
The VIDEO is everything else and it loops, oldest video gets overwritten when full.

Be careful with the sensitivity settings, if you have the g-sensor set too sensitive it will overfill the EVENTS folder and will stop recording. Video in this folder is assumed to be critical and it won't overwrite them unless you format the card. This is useful in the event that a crash was so severe that you were transported to the hospital and the car was towed to an impound lot. You wouldn't want the video of the impound lot to overwrite the crash video. The sensitivity setting will depend on what type of vehicle you drive and how smooth the ride is. If it says memory is full after a few days you have it set too high. If you don't have anything important saved it is easy to reformat in the settings menu. Once the sensitivity settings are good you won't see the memory full message.

It's not the best dashcam but it is a good value. I wouldn't have considered getting one if it was more that $100. This one is almost a year old and it has so far survived an Arizona summer.

It seems to have the same read/write and is ~$20 less on amazon than OPs card.

u/Lashrael · 4 pointsr/nintendo

I wouldn't get the Evo Line for a switch. Its cheaper than the pro line and tends to have higher storage capacities. On the other hand it has a much shorter life span so you will need to buy a new one sooner than you would if you bought the Pro line.

The reason for the life difference is because the Evo line uses TLC memory and the Pro line uses MLC memory. TLC memory Read/write life cycles are around 3,000 to 5,000 cycles per cell. On the other hand MLC read/write life is around 10,000 per cell. One source among many.

TL:DR- MLC memory has longer life span than TLC memory. Evo uses TLC memory Pro uses MLC.

u/Sylnic · 3 pointsr/smashbros

These work perfectly fine and are fairly cheap. If you have Prime, you'll get it fast as well.

u/cptdungle · 3 pointsr/Filmmakers

Well, If filmmaking and video is your goal with these cameras I wouldn't recommend either.

If you're just starting and serious about video production here's a pretty effective starter kit that's just a tad over your $400 budget.

[Camera: Canon Vixia HF R400] (http://www.amazon.com/Canon-VIXIA-R400-Advanced-Camcorder/dp/B00AWZFJ22/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395594961&sr=8-1&keywords=canon+vixia+hf+r400)
This is a decent starter camera. It's got a decent range of focal lengths, optical stabilization, microphone input, progressive frame-rates and most of all designed with video in mind. You'll need a SD Card

I noticed the cameras you picked resembles DSLRs but keep in mind that these in particular are not and with fixed lenses which defeats the purpose of having DSLR for video. Trust me, learn how to be effective with a camcorder first! Then, when your skill requires more artistic control you can upgrade.

Audio:
[Microphone:] (http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATR-6550-Condenser-Shotgun-Microphone/dp/B002GYPS3M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395595673&sr=8-1&keywords=shotgun+microphone)
Having clean audio is probably the most important part filmmaking! The key is to get the mic as close to your subject as possible and away from your camera. You'll need a cable. If you need to mount it to your camera use this [bracket.] (http://www.amazon.com/Heavy-Photography-Bracket-Standard-Mounts/dp/B005Z4ROIW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395595189&sr=8-1&keywords=flash+bracket) This bracket will also help keep the camera stabilized when you go handheld.

Keep in mind this won't deliver perfect audio but it will be a MASSIVE improvement to the on board microphone and learning how to record with decent audio in mind is your first step into becoming a pro.

[Lighting:] (http://www.amazon.com/Bayco-SL-300-Clamp-Aluminum-Reflector/dp/B007RKKEHA/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1395595354&sr=8-17&keywords=can+lights)
Lighting is EXTREMELY important. A couple of these can lights will not only help with your image quality but put in you in the right direction for learning how to properly light your scene. You could start with daylight equivalent CFL bulbs.

[Tripod:] (http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-60-Inch-Lightweight-Tripod-Bag/dp/B005KP473Q/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1395595413&sr=8-3&keywords=tripod)
You NEED a tripod. This one is cheap and cheerful. Looping the ends of a couple rubber brands around the pan handle and the other end around your finger will help deliver some smoother pans!

Total: $425/£258

Some things to keep in mind:

  • These are far from pro tools but if all used in conjuncture you can deliver a much more effective production than just merely using a camera on a tripod.

  • Build a crew of friends. Although you can "one man band" it I don't recommend it because one of coolest things about film is that it's almost always a group effort towards an artistic goal!

  • Most importantly, the equipment are just tools. They don't tell the story; you do! Your film/video is only as powerful as the story you want to tell!

    Best of luck to you!

In Finland, we can do 60 tons when you have at least 7 axles and a combined length of 25,25m at the most. I'm assuming they fit just fine.

Assuming that the transporting equipment itself weighs ~10 tons, we can use 50 tons just for the cards, which can be 32 GB, we get 3.2 exabytes at the cost of 84.45 Billion USD.

u/Guvante · 3 pointsr/wiiu

Flash memory is dirt cheap. Manufacturers use it for tiering their clients and nothing more. On Amazon for $12

u/ItsADanThing · 3 pointsr/photography

Those are the "burst speeds" not continuous write speeds. UHS-1 write speed is usually around 40-50 MB/s. But they are pretty cheap, the PNY cards are pretty highly rated and a 64 GB card is about $24 on amazon. UHS-3 cards are quite a bit more expensive but do offer 90+ MB/s write speeds. Sandisk sells a 64 GB card for about $80. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure the camera is limited to 40 MB/s write so these probably wouldn't improve it any.

This chart shows max resolution cameras can record raw at. Only camera capable of 1080p at 24fps continuously is the 5DIII.

u/solid7 · 3 pointsr/hardware

I have one of these. It's a fairly awesome usb 3.0 sd card reader. Without doing any significant in-depth analysis, I notice that I generally offload my full memory cards in about 13 minutes.

If my math is right, that would be an average sustained transfer speed of 84.02MiB/s to my hard drives. So, unless you are using the faster cards, you probably won't notice much of a difference. For $9 shipped (amazon prime), why the hell not :p. That device has my recommendation.

My v30 Sandisk Extreme Pros stop recording at around 20 seconds when shooting pretty much any All-I 400 mbps modes. This was expected, but I was hoping to be surprised.

Conversely, the v30 cards were able to do 6k 4:3 Anamorphic mode without any issues thus far! It's LongGOP and only 200mbps. This means open gate at 6k at 4:3 for most shooters who are on a v30 card.

The general consensus seems to be that your money is better spent buying a high-endurance microSD card meant for dashcam use and a USB adapter to plug into the car.

You might think to just use a thumb drive, and the owner's manual says so, but many report their devices failing quickly due to environmental factors inside the car. You don't want to have an accident only to find out your drive was dead.

I bought a 64GB Samsung PRO Endurance card and an Anker USB 3.1 memory card reader for my Model 3. To view the videos I use a USB dongle to connect the card reader to my phone and then use this app to view them on my phone.

I thought about getting the 400 GB off Amazon, but I went ahead and just went for the 512 GB off Amazon for $80. Good price, in my opinion, and worth the extra $30 for the additional 100+ GB. This is the one I got https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H1231S8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_gLvRDbJ7ZHQQC

The Switch can handle up to 2 TB, IIRC. This should hold you over for a while especially upgrading from 128.

The transfer is a bit much, so get comfy for about 2 hours. I upgraded from 64 GB and was near capacity.

GameStop was going to charge me around $50 for a 128, the highest they had available. I was glad I passed after seeing the prices and capacity available online.

There’s an extension/addon to view Amazon price changes which helped influence my decision. The $80 was the lowest price there is for this card in its lifetime on Amazon. I’ll get the name of the extension if you’re curious.

There is a bit of a confusion about the 512 GB cards on Amazon. There are 2 made by Samsung that are nearly identical to each other but different names and different prices, I think $5 difference or something. My Googling determined that one is exclusive to Amazon and the other is available anywhere and there is no real difference between the two except the name.

So be aware of that when buying cards on Amazon. You should definitely research the cards before buying any one of them right off the bat because you could be saving money getting the same card under a different name.

Yeah, the amazon kits, for the most part, are just junk, and the stuff you do really want is bad quality. It's substantially better to get stuff as you get more experience.

For a camera, I definitely think that you are good with a t6i or t7i. I agree with the other poster to make sure that you get an "i" because they have the swivel screen that makes life so much easier. After a quick check, you could get this referbed t6i for about $500 which is not bad. Don't worry about it coming with a kit lens, sometimes those lenses can be useful, and for the most part, since it is an "amateur" camera, they are hard to find body only. So you should be good there.

I'm not entirely sure what the "tutorial" mode is, but really do read up on the exposure triangle. It's not super difficult (there are TONS of great graphics that help explain it), and it will make your photos/videos SO much better because you will be in control, and more aware of the capabilities and limitations of your camera than if you shoot in a mode that's not manual.

Also a few quick notes about filming with DSLRs that you aren't going to see if you just look at photography sources. One, try your darnest to always shoot ISO 100 when filming. Bumping the ISO in pictures is fine because the grain is either not recognizable or is easy to remove in photos, but it is SUPER noticeable and hard to remove in video. This is because the grain changes every frame, effectively animating it. The other thing is that if you shoot higher than 60 fps, you might end up wanting to add motion blur or something because the video might look a little odd. On the contrary, for photos you'll probably want to shoot more like 200 so that handshake doesn't introduce motion blur.

The other thing that is SUPER IMPORTANT for video and just like "nice to have" for photos is a good memory card that has a high write speed. This is the one that I personally use. If the memory card doesn't have a high write speed, then your camera will just stop recording because the write speed of the memory card can't keep up with the data coming from the camera.

Also, side note, there are tons of articles that will say that canons can't shoot more than 12 minutes of video at a time because it exceeds the 4gb file size (which it can't go past due to stupid copyright laws. I don't get it either). This isn't entirely true. All the canons that I have dealt with (everything from a t3i to 70D) record fine past the 12 minute mark, just when they get done recording it will split it into 4gb files. Only one canon have I ever seen ALWAYS shut done at the 12 minute mark no matter what, so I suspect it was just broken. However, even with my own trusted camera that I have never had problems recording more than 12 minutes has recently stopped at about 30mins (my guess had to do write speeds), so just always be aware.

As far as lighting kits go, this one is pretty good for a beginer. Most people do a basic 3 point lighting which is probably fine enough for what you want to do. So with that in mind, and since you want to do green screen, you might want to get 2 of those kits. The key to doing green screen is to have a really well- and evenly- lit screen. TBH you really don't need to get a green screen kit unless you just want to. All it really is, is just a large piece of fabric anchored in such a way so that there are no wrinkles. Of course, the kits are nicer, but you may want to see if you can DIY that part.

As for a tripod, this one is probably fine for what you want to do. Just keep in mind that if you continue to do more in video/photography you will probably need to get a better one later on. I personally have one like this that I use like as a back-up, so they aren't a complete waste of money.

Hopefully this helps! If you have any more questions feel free to ask!

Video falls under the V category of card ratings. In this case, the A7riii will only shoot 4K at 30fps therefore UHS-1 rating will do fine. I recommend the Sandisk Extreme Pro. It offers a v30 rating and 95MB/s write speed which really helps with the new buffer speeds of the mark3's for photography. I've always used this and fine that it's the best bang for buck.

I don't think anyone has told you you need a microSD for the SuperNt. You're thinking of the SD2SNES Pro.

Here you go. Not only is that plenty large enough, it's a microSD that comes with a full-size adapter. It will work for either firmware updates for the SuperNt or for the SD2SNES Pro. If you're buying both, buy two cards.

That's all you need. Really.

u/stan_qaz · 2 pointsr/raspberry_pi

I'd go with a good quality SD card, aside from problems caused by an inadequate power supply that seems to be the biggest failure point. I recommend a pair of SansDisk 16 GB cards, one to run and one as a backup. Little is saved by going smaller, slower or cheaper.

>So I've got this charger. It's a new charger, cable all looks good and is about 1.5m long.

That looks like the official power supply and I trust that seller not to sell fakes.

✔️ Power OK

>This SD Card

✔️ SD Card OK

>unplugged the fan ... external drive is self-powered via AC

✔️ Peripherals OK

>I haven't overclocked the Pi myself, and a arm_freq gives me 1400.

✔️ Clock probably OK

>I'm on the LibreELEC 9.0.1.

✔️ That seems to be the latest. It's still possible something could be messed up on your install. If a fresh image doesn't resolve the problem, you could try rolling back one version to LibreELEC-RPi2.arm-9.0.0.img.gz.

>I forgot to mention that when you power back up, it has updated the library with the new media!

⚠️ That's odd. Does it completely finish the library update, or just part of it?

>it doesn't crash when the external drive isn't plugged in

⚠️ That seems like a strong indication that the USB drive has something to do with it, but I can't imagine what. It has its own AC power adapter, so it probably isn't pulling voltage down when it spins up. If the drive isn't too full, would you consider reformatting it? I'd be interested to know if it behaves differently after formatting as a different file system, like ext4. You can go a step further and wipe out the whole partition table. I think LibreELEC should have the commands you need in order to format a drive from the terminal/ssh.

I have this exact dashcam. Highly recommend.

This is the memory card I have. Don’t buy a 128gb for this dashcam. Doesn’t work very well.

u/MrMcPickle3000 · 2 pointsr/Dashcam

My response is probably tl;dr, lol. But I made the response more detailed because of your continued interest and because I wish I had this info available to me prior to purchasing dashcams.

Have you had any overheating issues? No, never had this issue with the 55's and I used to drive rideshare on average of 30+ hrs per week in the scorching summer months of LA. Although, I don't know for certain if the dashcam 25's had a notification that states "overheating" or something like that; however, my 25's did fail repeatedly and may/may not have been as a result of me not using the original manufacturer charging cables. Having a dashcam from a reputable manufacturer, like I commented before, has its advantages like customer service, firmware updates, replacements, reputation etc.

Example: When my 25's failed, Garmin stiffed me by sending out refurbs and those had the same issues. So, I played my hand by going through the Dept of Consumer Affairs and the District Attorney's office because they would fail mid-drive and so I stated this was due to poor manufacturing and dangerous as it is a distraction and failure to record in case an incident did occur. They contacted Garmin and I got a call from a personal number of a Garmin rep that does damage control. I sent them the failed 25's and after they tested them, they sent me brand new 55's free of charge. Of course, I had to show them proofs of purchase of the 25's.

Do you have lane departure and forward collision turned off because of false readings? I do not have it switched off. Whatever helps keep me focused on the road is helpful. You may think, "well, it takes your focus off the road", but I don't really look at those notifications; I only listen for them. I use them to let me know that something of crucial importance is happening in front of or around me and so I focus more acutely on the road rather than the notifications themselves.

I've never tried other dashcams outide og the Garmin 25 and 55, but, whatever dashcam you are going to go with, make sure you do not plug them into the basic usb charging ports. I've personally had issues with those ports not providing enough power and the dashcams failing as a result. My '14 corolla has only 1 lighter port, but I have 2 dashcams and my phone plugged in and passengers phones when I used to drive rideshare, so I bought this to remedy the issue and haven't had problems since: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078HMYV7G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I haven't tried hardwiring them into the car's fuse box. Maybe i will, maybe I won't. Don't know as of yet.

Also, dashcams have a high overwrite frequency that lends to reduced life spans/reduced memory of sd cards causing them to suddenly stop recording mid-drive, so go with these and they should remedy that problem: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B9KTLJZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Imo, as driver distractions have increased over the past 5 years with smart phones, in-car apps, etc, dashcams are crucial for everyone. Think about it, as driver accidents go up, insurance companies profits go down as a result of them having to fork over money for repairs, so they are constantly trying to absolve themselves of financial responsibility by concluding that both parties are responsible for collisions, therefore, reducing their expenses as a result of insured parties paying their deductibles. If drivers had video evidence, i.e. dashcams, drivers would instantly save on the cost of their dashcams in case of collisions. Car manufacturers may eventually build dashcams into cars as a result of consumer demand, but they'd face some backlash from insurance companies because of potential collusion. I think I'll post about this just for fun.

More pics (SB2 / SP3 / XPS 15): https://imgur.com/a/BlKaKud

I have a pretty beefy little (<11L) SFF desktop for heavy stuff at home (Ryzen 7, GTX 1080 Ti). For mobile use, I've had a Surface Pro 3 (i5-4300U / 8 GB / 256 GB SSD) since launch (4.5 years) and a Dell XPS 15 9530 Touch (i7-4702HQ / 16 GB / 1 TB SSD / GT 750M) for about 5 years.

I've been really happy with the SP3 - overall one of the best PCs I've ever owned - and it's still good enough for mobile use. The XPS 15 is still competent enough for most things I throw at it, but I realized I wanted a VR-capable laptop, to be able to travel with my Samsung Odyssey HMD. The XPS 15's GT 750M is... not quite ideal for VR.

VR meant I'd need something with at least a GTX 1060 - but after spending some time with various gaming laptops, I couldn't live with the lack of a touchscreen, poor display, poor keyboard and/or touchpad, abysmal battery life, poor design, and thick, heavy body that plague most of those. The only two "civilized" options were the Razer Blade 15 and the Surface Book 2 15. The Razer has a stronger CPU and available GPUs (and non-Marvell Avastar WiFi), but the keyboard is subpar, and I'm not sure I trust their quality.

So I decided to look for a Surface Book 2 15, hoping it could replace both the XPS 15 and SP3. Only issue was I needed at least 1 TB storage (based on what I used in the XPS 15), and given the impossibility of upgrading the SB2 SSD, I'd need the stratospherically priced top variant.

After scouring Craigslist for a while, I eventually managed to negotiate a pretty decent deal -- brand new, sealed SB 2 15 / 16 GB / 1 TB for $1,700. Then I went over to the MS Store to add MS Complete, so all in, a bit under $2,000 total.

So far quite happy with this. The screen is incredible, keyboard is great, performance is solid all around, and battery life is very impressive.

Not quite sure about the tablet use case yet. The clipboard is quite light, but it's of course large for a tablet - will have to see if I'm comfortable doing sofa reading on this. I've tried a bit of VR on it so far - will have to spend some time tweaking performance settings to optimize things with the Odyssey (on my Ryzen / 1080 Ti desktop, that's not a concern- just slide everything to max!).

Might add another 512 GB storage at some point if I get a good deal on the newish Samsung 512 GB MicroSD card (only the Amazon-exclusive Evo Select branded version seems to have launched in the US thus far; currently still $200 on Amazon, or gray-market import of the Evo Plus for $150).

Well then it depends on how much more you're willing to invest. If you've got a USB flash drive with 8 or more GB free and/or don't have a Brawl disk, then you can follow this guide to install Homebrew and USB Loader GX (which can also be used to load any other games you decide to put on the flash drive, though other games will require more space), but it'll be a little more effort, plus like a 0.5% chance to brick your Wii.

On the other hand, if you do have a Brawl disc, 2GB non-SDHC SD cards are really cheap on Amazon.

Take your pick, but also do your homework. If you don't have the necessary components, at least take a look at what it would take to procure them.

u/commiecomrade · 2 pointsr/raspberry_pi

The Pi doesn't use micro SDHC cards, just SD or SDHC cards (the larger kinds in DSLR's). So unless you have an adapter, I'd get something like this.

I have the exact same Edimax USB adapter, and I can say it installs and runs flawlessly.

My major weak point is electrician stuff but from what I see the battery looks good. 5v is exactly what you need. I haven't tested my model B 2.0 Pi but from what I've heard, it will probably draw about 700mA so you're looking at about 16 hours of life, accounting for realistic expectations.

EDIT: just read the reviews and it seems that it performs well with their Pi. Seems like a good choice!

You're in luck V! There is an A/C Adapter available, Nikon did it kinda weird and didn't include a simple power port on the camera so you need two items. The first is an adapter that looks like your normal battery pack but has a cord off of it and the second is the actual power cord you plug into the wall. Connect those two together and you can record until the next ice age! I've double checked, both of these items are compatible with your model so you're good to go. $62 and free shipping sure beats buying a new camera! :)

You also might want to throw in a larger SD card to give you more recording time, not sure what you have now but it has to be pretty small to only give you 20mins. This 16GB card should give you close to 4 hours and is only $13:

The elinux wiki's list of Verified Peripherals is pretty nice to look at. It has a nice list of things that have been tested to work, and what haven't.

The gist of it is you need a SD Card (Most should work fine) and a Power Supply (micro USB) that supplies 5V / 700mA should be fine for most needs.
More info on power here

If you're going to hook your raspi up to something that draws a fair bit of power you might want to get a Powered USB hub.

> but can anyone give me a comprehensive list of the products (including the prices and specs) that the board needs to function?

Generally comes down to the power supply being $2-$10 maybe (depends what you buy). You can find SD cards easily under $10s as well depending on capacity and speed.

For my setup I have this for a power supply and a 16GB SD card, you could certainly do with less capacity depending on what you're doing.

You must have missed the memo that technology is awesome these days.
Here is 32 GB of storage storage. That card is maybe 100 cubic mm. Without any circuit board, contacts, or plastic shell, the flash chip alone is a small fraction of that.

I needed something on the cheap end when I first got my 3DS, so I picked up one of these guys: https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-32GB-microSDHC-Memory-Package/dp/B003WGJYCY/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1481729298&sr=8-5&keywords=Sandisk+micro+SD+card+32GB

32GB is pretty significant, and since I buy all my games digitally, I'm able to have 8-9 games on the DS without any issue, sometimes more if I'm going back and playing an older game. Fire Emblem Awakening + DLC, Fates +DLC, Monster Hunter 4/Generations and a couple other bigger games were always on the card with 20k+ blocks to spare.

While it's not the best, I bought this one for my 3ds xl: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Class-Flash-Memory-SDSDB-032G-AFFP/dp/B007JRB0RE/

It works perfectly fine for me and I've currently got 6 digital games on it. But it's only a class 4 so it's a tiny bit slower than a class 10 (which I believe would impact loading + saving for 3ds games). However, since there's a sale on Sony class 10 cards, you might consider that if someone can guaratee that it would work for 3ds - though it probably would.

u/dochardware · 2 pointsr/3DS

this one works perfectly. Some are probably gonna come and say get a Class 10, but it honestly makes no difference. the games don't load any faster so you can save yourself $2-3 dollars. Class 4 is what the system came with anyway

u/abluecolor · 2 pointsr/themountaingoats

Of course!!

It's a bit of an investment, but the equipment I used was the Zoom H4n Pro. Did some research and the Zoom H4n has been a standard for awhile- phenomenal device, and they recently put out an updated model (the Pro) which is identical save for some upgrades to the guts inside (the preamps and the onboard mics). I plan on using it for many years to come.

I took nigelewan's advice and set the h4n in my shirt pocket- it fits snug and perfectly. I kinda hated how it sticks out a bit- the mics are silver and shiny so I have to imagine JD notices it, but the fact that he's currently binging Grateful Dead tapes makes me feel a bit better. Still, I kinda want to paint them black or something. Not sure if that's possible though. The shininess is definitely gaudy, but oh well.

Try to position yourself as close to a speaker as possible. Your recording will end up being what the room at large hears mixed with the crowd audio from around you and also feintly capture JD if he goes off mic which is awesome.

The h4n has a bunch of quality options- I did some research and opted for 24bit/48khz . Apparently that's a sweet spot of making the bass sound really nice and juicy and being high quality but still allowing for a lot of recording time (depending on how big a card you get. I used this 32g card. I used a fresh pair of batteries for each show since I didn't want to take any risks.

You have to set the mic level- I was pretty freaking close to some speakers and it seemed like between 20-35 was the good spot. 20 for most songs, and I'd try to turn it up a few notches when a quieter one came on (and then I'd often forget to turn it back down for the subsequent songs so they'd be louder haha).

Wish you the best of luck! Let me know if you have any other questions.

u/whaddadoo · 2 pointsr/3DS

That seems pretty expensive for a class 1 32 gb card, I just picked up a class 4 32 gb from Amazon for ~$19 (this one, to be exact: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Class-Flash-Memory-SDSDB-032G-AFFP/dp/B007JRB0RE/) It's worked perfectly for me. Class 4 is really all you need if you're just using it for gaming, classes really only matter if you're using it for something like photography and want to take super fast high action shots, then you might want a class 10, but class 4 is all you need for a 3ds.

They also have the 64GB SanDisk Pro 45MB/s for $39.95 with free shipping, for ProRes.

Amazon also has the same deal, but in Frustration Free Packaging.

u/AShavedApe · 2 pointsr/bmpcc

Hmm, alrighty.

• First you'll need a nice micro four-thirds lens. Since the BMPCC has a crop factor of around 3x, you'll need a pretty wide lens to get a reasonable focal length. I'd recommend either:

  1. Panasonic Lumix G 20mm f/1.7

  2. Panasonic Lumix G 14mm f/2.5

Either of these lenses would be nice portrait length lenses on the camera and will give you a nice shallow depth of field. The first will give you shallower depth and will be a bit more tightly zoomed. Both of these will fall into the 50mm range which is ideal for a first lens and are rather sharp.

    • I'm not sure what memory card you've already bought but it should be something like this. There's enough space for a decent shoot and it's fast enough to record RAW if you want to delve into the true hype of the camera. The image is incredible either way.

    • Because the camera is so light, you may need something sturdy to attach it to. Tripods that are worth anything at all are a bit pricey but they will last a long long time and if you bargain on one you might not get a steady shot at all. This is the best budget tripod I've found to be honest. It isn't dirt cheap but you'll be glad you have it. If you want to do handheld stuff, please at least use something to weigh it down or your footage will tear and look awful. Slide all the legs in and use this badboy as a monopod!

That should about do it! The tripod and the SD card are both future-proof and you can use these into the foreseeable ether of time. The lenses are great too and will serve you well until you can get a nice set. I chose a prime over a zoom because, honestly, learning with a prime is infinitely better. Sometimes being a bit limited helps you understand what you're doing a bit more. Also, images are always sharper on primes.

For 4k video you usually want as fast and large as you can afford. You just bought a ~800 bucks camera, don't skim on the memory card.

Generally the advertised speed of memory cards is the read speed, which isn't really a concern for you. More important is the write speed and cheaper cards often omit this value.

Good cards with high enough write speed while still being fairly priced are the Sandisk Extreme Pro series, or the Lexar Pro and last but not least the Samsung Pro. Take your pick!

u/hendusoone · 2 pointsr/Android

Android is capable of much higher than class 6 speeds. Android itself can read and write as fast as the hardware will allow (that is, the SD card itself AND the phone's SD slot). So, it depends on which SD card technology is in your phone.

For exmaple: I've got a 64GB Sandisk UHS-1 microSD in my T-Mobile G2. The phone itself only claims to support SDHC, but this is clearly a SDXC card. Works flawlessly - I can use all of the space, and I get a read* speed of 10+MB/s and a write speed of 30+MB/s according to benchmarks.

So, when buying a SD card for your phone, do a bit of research to see what other people with your same phone are able to run. The published specs aren't always completely accurate.

u/NightSlider · 2 pointsr/gopro

Assuming you are offloading the pictures to your computer after or during each leg of the trip, I would recommend getting a (32GB Sandisk Ultra)[http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-microSDHC-Memory-Adapter-SDSDQUA-032G-U46A/dp/B007XZM6VG/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1372100338&sr=1-1&keywords=sandisk+ultra+micro+sd] and either a Hero 3 White, Silver, or Black depending on how much you want to spend and how much you would use each model (ex. If you want to use the camera to film for shows, especially in low-light, get the Black). Other than that, make sure to get the newest version of the Suction Cup Mount (the one that doesn't have the shaky arm) and some tethers and you'll be good.

Also, it really depends just how long you want these timelapses to be. If you want them as a 5-second piece in a music video down the road, go with 1 shot every 30sec and compress it down to those 5sec of video.

But if you want to be able to see the scenery in each leg of the trip and focus on the beauty of the NorthWest, I'd reccomend shooting at 1 shot every 2-5sec.

In the end, if you offload the pictures to your computer every few hours, I reccomend shooting at 1 shot every 2sec simply because you can then compress all the photos down to a 20min video if you want. But if you did 1 shot every 60sec, that 20min vid would not be possible.

So I'm pretty sure the 32GB has more than enough space to do 1 shot every 2sec, leaving battery power to be your only problem. You'll get about 1.5-2hr of battery life on one charge. And it is possible to shoot with a USB plugged up to the GoPro which is the preferred option (2.1A car charger with MicroUSB going to the camera). Only problem is that you will need to use either The Frame or get an extra Housing and drill a hole where the microUSB is. I did the latter idea but also bought a $5 3D printed The Frame.

Any questions, and we're here for ya!

Might be handy to have a class 10 or above also if you do stuff like shoot video with the phone or use it as a mobile hard drive of sorts.

Honestly though, if you're the average joe-schmo user any class 10 should suffice. I currently have this, but prior to I used an ordinary class 10 AData 32GB card and didn't feel much of a difference in day-to-day use. At this point though the price differential is so small that it's pointless to not buy a UHS-1 card.

Yeah you can. Been recording just as a test for 10 minutes now and haven't lost a single percentage off battery so the battery pack is keeping up with the power of the Fusion. Also make sure the cards you got are these or faster:

I noticed you said Lorries. Are you from the UK? Because it might not be worth the extra to go for some brands over others if they're harder to get or more expensive. The ones I listed are generally considered to be reliable. I think Transcend is seen as tops, I use Adata Premier Pro because they're easier to get at a reasonable price here in Canada.

Edit: looks like the best price currently on AMZ UK is the Sandisk 32GB Video Monitoring card at £16, Amazon Link. Followed by Adata Premier Pro at £26 - Amazon Link. I honestly don't know if there's a benefit to one over the other since they're both endurance cards. YMMV with any card.

I'd give some of those a try and see how it goes. Also maybe consider setting your cams to 720p since your cards will last longer (and record for longer on the same card). or If you have 1440p cam try 1080p mode.

My Pi is connected via ethernet directly to my router. Right now my Pi is dedicated to Pi Hole. I had hoped I'd be able to run a web server on it eventually so I'd like to resolve this issue.

I didn't have much time last night to play around with different settings. Just out of curiosity, what SD card do you have? This is mine. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WR4IJBE/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_Gogizb52MS741 I have a second smaller SD card I could try. I was thinking of trying Raspbian on it but maybe I'll try a different distro.

I wouldn't think it would be read/write related, but I'll see if I can figure out a way to monitor it. I don't think it's RAM/CPU related because my resource usage is low as Pi Hole is the only thing running on it. I've even tried disabling the Pi Hole's blocking functionality and saw no improvements at all.

I should have more time to do some digging/troubleshooting tonight. I'm sure others are having this issue.

u/KingdaToro · 2 pointsr/HomeNetworking

Get the cabling done. There's really no substitute. Then, you'll want these...

UniFi Security Gateway router

2-4 UniFi AP AC Lites. Start with one per floor, add more if needed. They work best when ceiling mounted. If you have any devices that support more than two 5 GHz streams, you'll want at least one NanoHD for them to reach full speed.

A switch of some sort, ideally a PoE one. Ubiquiti's is the best choice, but is expensive. You could instead go with a cheaper PoE switch, or even a non-PoE one and use the PoE injectors supplied with the APs to power them. The cheapest way to have both PoE and lots of ports is to get a small PoE switch and a big non-PoE one and connect them together.

Optionally, a Raspberry Pi. This will be for running the UniFi Controller, which manages all the UniFi devices, and Pi-Hole, a whole-network adblocker. You'll need a MicroSD card for it as well.

u/imp2 · 2 pointsr/raspberry_pi

Samsung ones are one of the bests out there (you can read more about that here and here), it's also pretty cheap too.
You may also want to overclock the card controller to get the most out of the card.

u/Pr3no · 2 pointsr/Xiaomi

It depends on which Samsung ones and which Sandisk ones are you talking about.

I'm looking at the prices on Amazon, a 32 GB EVO Select from Samsung is $10, while a 32 GB Sandisk Ultra is $15, and both of them claim the same "up to 80 MB/s transfer speed", but I'm sure that's just the read speed and write speeds might be better on the Sandisk, hence why it's more expensive, but I haven't checked so I'm not sure.

I haven't heard of Samsung's Evo Select line before, judging from the price I assume it's a cheaper and worse performing line than the Evo, but you can also buy a 32 GB Samsung Evo+ for $15, so Samsung microSD's aren't more expensive.

u/Tristango · 2 pointsr/3DS

You can virtually use any micro SD card whether it's HC of XC and 4, 16, 32, 128,256, (GB) etc. However anything over 32GB or any XC card requires formatting. Your safest bet is anything at 32GB or below and HC. Highly recommend a Samsung Evo 32GB. Can be purchased for about $20 here :

Samsung 32GB EVO Plus Class 10 Micro SDHC with Adapter 80mb/s (MB-MC32DA/AM) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WR4IJBE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_CK5pybQ7QBXKT

I was using Ethernet and I tried it with the wifi and nothing changed. The Class10 Kingston may not be enough as that was what I got. Actually got this one in particular:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0162YQG2I

Which was a "Kingston Digital 32GB microSDHC Class 10 UHS-I 45MB/s Read Card" and that's where it was causing me the issues. I believe it's because it was a 45MB/s, which I thought was fast enough, but from my tests wasn't. (Not sure if others experienced different).

So after reading some other posts I ordered the "Samsung 32GB EVO Plus Class 10 Micro SDHC with Adapter 80mb/s"

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WR4IJBE

After getting it and installing it, it ran a lot faster and I don't experience any of the freezes I had. Used the Samsung card (two different ones) in two different PI's and have the same performance. Whereas I was doing 2x of the Kingston in the PI's and had the issues. Granted your mileage may vary, but that's just from personal experience.

u/legos45 · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Hey,

I agree with the Acer Aspire 1, but it isn't too powerful so I wouldn't expect much more out of it other than programming/general use. The storage is a bit small, so you can grab a 128 GB SD card to store everything but Windows 10 operating system. It has a 14" display. It is sadly not a 2-in-1.

u/PureNintendoHype · 2 pointsr/3DS

Any data that's on the SD card RIGHT NOW that the 3DS itself can read successfully can also be successfully read by your PC for the transfer. My advice is to stop using the SD card immediately to preserve as much data as possible.

I recommend this series of cards, but anything sold by Amazon.com itself will work fine:

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Select-Memory-MB-ME64DA-AM/dp/B01DOB6YQA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1485458455&sr=8-3&keywords=64GB+microsd

u/ExplosiveTortuga · 2 pointsr/Piracy

Of course! So if you're ordering a new ds chances are it will be running an unexploitable firmware (I can't be 100% sure about that though because I'm pretty new to 3ds hacking myself, I would suggest checking out /r/3dshacks and looking into installing arm9loaderhax and be sure not to bring up piracy there). Assuming you're firmware needs to be downgraded to be exploited, you will likely need to perform a hardmod. There are many online guides for this but unless you are highly experienced with soldering circuitboards (like I am not) I would strongly suggest you stay away from it. Since I was in the same situation I'm describing, I sought out a user by the name of /u/pbanj_. This guy is a long time contributor to the /r/3dshacks community. You can read his post about his hardmod service here. TL;DR: if you are in the US you can send him your system and $45 and he'll get everything set up for you, no hassle. Just make sure you follow his instructions in that post very carefully. You can contact him through pm. I would expect you to be skeptical of his service because I was too but I just got my system back today and everything is absolutely perfect, the system looks and runs exactly as before. Also, he's really fast about getting it sent back to you and his price is the best I was able to find. I highly recommend him. Anyway, once you get your system back, you can visit [google "3ds freeshop"] and [google "3ds title keys"] and follow this video to get everything set up. The only slight deviation I had to make from that tutorial was instead of putting the encTitleKeys.bin in the freeShop folder he tells you to make, I had to put it in 3ds/data/freeShop I believe (although if that is wrong, the freeshop app will tell you where it needs to go when you open it). From there, all you need to do is go into the freeShop app, search for the game you want, and hit download. I don't know if every single physical copy game is on there but I just downloaded a ton of games and I didn't find a single one that wasn't on there. If you follow the same steps as me, it is basically foolproof. It's cheap, quick, and you won't get banned even if you play those downloaded games online. You can also download a ton of other homebrew applications from there (/r/3dshacks will be a great resource for this part). The only other expense would be getting a nice, sizable sd card to hold all your new games. This is the one I got. I'd recommend going for the 64gb because it can hold (obviously) twice as much as a 32gb and is going to have faster load times than a 128gb. So that is, in maybe more detail than you would like, the entire process I went through. It may seem complicated but it's actually quite simple. Again, /r/3dshacks is a great resource but don't mention anything related to piracy there. Let me know if you have any other questions. Hope this helps!

edit: I originally thought this was a pm so I removed some direct links so this post doesn't get removed. You should still be able to find everything pretty easily though.

I believe that camera is the MF3. It wasn’t a good seller for VicoVation because it’s specs and price were too close to the Opia2. For some reason they renamed it the OS3 and are selling it only outside the US. I think they cut the price as well.
I would avoid the Lexar card. I have heard too many users having issues when them as of late. Go with the Transcend or the Samsung EVO Select (green and white in color).

u/downshiftnow · 2 pointsr/Surface

Read speed wise, most microSD cards are comparable so if that's your only concern, the 200gb SanDisk Ultra is your best bet. If you care at all about write speed, you should look elsewhere. Also, be wary of UHS-II spec cards that claim 150mbps read speed (along with a laughable 20mbps write) that require an adapter to achieve such speeds such as this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00U77V5KU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_ep_dp_5BxzybEV9MBMT

If you're looking for the best microSD hands down, it's the Samsung 256gb EVO+. MSRP is $249 and Amazon has it for $139. Quite the bargain. I thought i'd share what I just came up with.

I am moving to Germany at the end of the month for about two years, and I will be doing a LOT of traveling during this time. To preserve memories and share my experiences I decided to upgrade and change around my camera bag. I sold my d3300 and lenses and wanted a setup for something portable and not cumbersome that I can take in any situation without being annoying.

My activities I want to capture:

u/Ugly_Muse · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Amazon has similar 128GB cards here.

Trying to get the same speed still shows slight savings grabbing two of these.

I think paying a premium for having such a large mSD isn't worth it. Better off grabbing smaller 128 (how many games are you realistically going to put on it to begin with?). If that's not enough, maybe an external drive would be a good option anyway.

It's all up to preference, but I won't be grabbing anything bigger than the 128GB for mine.

u/jello3d · 2 pointsr/SonyAlpha

Current Sony cameras have a general write speed limit of ~36MB/s, so any card that can sustain that write speed will provide the same experience. If you see the "V30" marking on an SD card (or microSD in a holder) - that will be fast enough to give you the fastest write experience possible on any existing Sony. I use the SanDisk Extreme http://amzn.to/2gHxY8G (non plus or pro) microSD cards (because they also work with my action cams and pop right into my Surface too).

Notes -

  1. Fake SD cards are a problem, they look legit, and come in what looks like legit packaging - so be certain that the SD card you buy is the real deal (search google for how to identify legitimate SD cards).
  2. Test your cards to ensure that the speed advertised is the speed you are getting.
  3. FORMAT your cards, don't just erase the images. The way SD cards work, written bits need to be cleared before being overwritten. SD cards work fastest after a proper format.
  4. Test your cards periodically, they do fail... and sometimes in weird ways.

I understand, and your printer isn't really that old, so I'd be surprised if it didn't take SDHC cards. Do keep in mind that how you format the card may matter.

u/murpium · 1 pointr/3DS

In case someone misses the deal, I have found the Transcend brand to always be cheap and perform at speeds better than advertised (Lexar has been mediocre when I've tested it). This is the 16GB model but there's bigger versions too.

u/senor_ww · 1 pointr/3DS

Hi!
The brand is Transcend, I bought it in Sweden, but you can find it on Amazon.
I formatted my SD card as FAT32. There is a limitation though, the max size of a file on FAT32 is 4GB. I guess that for 3DS games we are on the safe side (I think the biggest game as of now is 2GB).

u/ccb621 · 1 pointr/photography

After doing some more research I learned that the T2i's 1080p bitrate is 5.5 MBytes/s. I used Transcend Class 6 SDHC for my T1i and now use Transcend CF for my 7D. Here are some Amazon links to make life easier so that you can get to shooting:

  • Class 6
  • Class 10

Note: Currently Amazon is selling Class 10 cards for about $1.00 more than Class 6. Go with Class 10.
u/Minuend · 1 pointr/WTF

I live in the USA, and I have one. I bought mine off of Amazon. I paid $21 for the dashcam and $13 for the SD card.

If you're interested I can upload some video onto youtube for you to check out how it works. It's alright for $34.

u/RandomGuy_74 · 1 pointr/pics

While it is possible to get 128 gb on a microsd card, those are very expensive per gigabyte. The best memory storage with the smallest size, high capacity, and very low price per gigabyte is a 32 gb microsd card, which amazon sells for 31.98, or about a dollar per gigabyte.
If you want to go up one size, to usb sticks, check out this usb stick. The only thing past the port itself is a metal structure to help you hold on to it.
And going one more size up, to hard drives, you can get a 2tb external hd for just $99. That's just 5 cents per gigabyte.

u/linkandluke · 1 pointr/3dshacks

I have finished installing the arm9loaderHax and upgraded back to 11.

I am thinking about getting a larger micro SD card from amazon. Here are the 2 I am considering 1 - 2

Are there any size/speed concerns I should have?

What will I need to do to make sure the micoSD is ready for my 3ds? Will I need to format it specially? I remember during the hacking process needing to format the SC card a few times, but I think the whole thing is back to nothing special by the end of the hacking guide.

u/kupaa · 1 pointr/PSP

This with this or this.

u/odd_affilliate_link · 1 pointr/Android

For $34 bucks shipped I say go for it. 32GB is quit a bit of room.

u/meatwad75892 · 1 pointr/Android

This is also great because microSD cards of 32GB and above have dropped significantly in price lately. When I got my Thunderbolt last year, I think a 32GB was over $100, now it's around $30 or less. I'm convinced it was a pretty good chunk of the $249 on-contract price.

The only caveat would be that if you opt for 64GB, most older phones may not support SDXC.

u/Sqeagy · 1 pointr/3DS

I see. I'm assuming mine is original 3Ds since I got whenever that Kingdom Hearts game was released.

u/purselane · 1 pointr/Cameras
  • 64Gb SDXC card is required for XAVCS @ full bitrate

  • The RX100's buffer is not too terrible for a compact with a ~10 shot capacity, but beyond that you're basically going to get 1 shot a second until the buffer clears. There's also a limit to how fast the camera writes to the card, and anything faster than a UHS-1 card may also slow down writing speed. So you want fast, but not too fast.

  • "Up to" = standard industry talk for "never gets this fast IRL lol"

The Sandisk Extreme Pro satisfies all of these requirements. The Extreme Plus is actually more performance right-sized, but it costs barely less than the Pro so there's no point.

There's no performance demerit in going for the Micro SD version with an adapter by the way if you intend to swap images physically between tablets or phones with these slots.
u/nycophoto · 1 pointr/Filmmakers

Would you recommend a specific SD card?

I'm used to SanDisk so I may go with that (an Extreme Pro probably) but I don't know which capacity would be sufficient for a 2 hours show and I'm having a hard time finding data about that.

Would the 64GB be sufficient or do we need 128? In any case I'd probably go for 2 similar cards to have a backup on site ready to go.

u/Earlyyyyyyyy · 1 pointr/photography

Whats the difference between these two? Does the v30 matter? Because most people recommend the one without the v30. $7 difference between the two where I come from.

I am interested in getting into photography and recently ordered my first camera. I bought a Canon T5i w/ EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens and a EF 75-300mm F/4-5.6 III Autofocus Telephoto Zoom Lens.

I am mainly interested in taking portraits, landscape and event photos. The events I work at are in everything from hotel ballrooms, private homes to convention spaces, almost always indoors with fairly dim lighting.

I've been trying to do some research on different equipment and gear that I would need, and came up with the following list. Is there anything that I don't need or a better alternative than I have listed? Is there anything I'm missing?

u/bondjaybond · 1 pointr/Filmmakers

As a Youtuber who's invested in the wrong gear before the right gear, here's a quality list that I've found works for my needs and will likely be great for you.

Camera

Panasonic GH4: This is a great camera that shoots 4K. If you are shoot in 4K, downscale to 1080p, you have the option to reframe and zoom into a closer shot without losing quality. It has a flip out screen so you can see yourself, focus peaking to show you on screen if you're in focus, and can record longer clips (in select modes) than the Canon T3i to make syncing easier. This camera is also great for when you want to deliver in 4K one day.
$1699

AC Power adapter: No worrying about batteries for the indoor shooting. $20

Lens

Panasonic 12-35mm: Versatile lens that gives you great range. $1000

14-42 kit lens: Cheaper alternative. $120

Audio

Zoom H4N: Great recorder for your mics. Monitor each mic's level independently. $250

Rode NTG-2: Shotgun mic. $270

Sennheiser Wireless Lav: Expensive, but great quality. $640

Audio Technica ATR-3350s: Cheap corded lavs with long wires. $30

You'll need one long XLR cable, a light stand to use for the boom, and some kind of shotgun mic shock mount. $60 for all.

Lighting

3-light softbox kit: Great kit, been using it for a year with no issues. I don't use the over head light, as I don't have the space. I can use the light stand to boom or for another light. $170

Neewer CN-160: Small LED light to help light certain situations or to use as a hair light. $30

Tripod

Manfrotto Tripod w/Fluid Head: Great set up, worth the investment, but there are cheaper alternatives. $350

Memory Card

64GB Sandisk Extreme Pro: Great card which will allow for smooth 4K recording. $100

A 64gb SanDisk Extreme Pro. It's a pretty new. Most of my other clips are fine, including ones taken after that one. I just had a real issue with a couple clips going back and forth like shown. I'm not entirely sure it was the vibration from the table but I can't think of anything else.

u/Master_Dogs · 1 pointr/LGG3

I have a 64GB Sandisk Ultra that works great. I used it in my old phone (Droid Razr Maxx) and then my G3 when I got it on release last July. So it's been working great for the last year or so.

Should be able to get it for around $30-$40.

I really can't wait until the 128GBs come down to this price point in a year or two though - 64GB is enough for most things but load it up with a few movies, some music and a few nandroids and you've pretty much filed it up.

Hey just a heads up, you should probably get a high endurance SD card like this. Since the card is written to continuously, it likes to burn SD cards out. Some people have luck with the non endurance, but it seems the endurance ones last longer.

u/hotend · 1 pointr/3Dprinting

I don't know of any controllers that allow you to connect an external hard drive as a storage device, and I don't think it's possible to make a hard drive look like a micro-SD card. It was possible with Compact Flash, since that used the old ATA (PATA) interface.

You could try a high-endurance SD card.

u/Stegasaurus_Wrecks · 1 pointr/ireland

Can't remember if it did, but after a Sandisk Extreme died in the dashcam in the wife's car, I went and bought a Sandisk Endurance card as they're designed for the continuous write/overwrite of a dashcam.

You do NOT want to be in a smash, think "oh it's OK, my dashcam will prove it wasn't my fault" and realise the card has been dead for the last month!

Edit: Download the app onto the kids tablet and let them see the footage from the camera in real time. Pretty cool.

u/ohmygodwhatsthiss · 1 pointr/Dashcam

I would recommend 32gb, and make sure it’s made for video surveillance since it overwrites data constantly. It’s a little more expensive than a normal one, but the normal one would eventually stop recording videos and become corrupted. I will post the link to the one I have below.

The dash cam’s software will loop the videos and delete the oldest one automatically. There’s also a button to “lock” the video so if you’re ever in an accident (or catch crazy stuff you want to show family and friends) you can lock the video such prevents it from being overwritten.

You can link the app through your phone using WiF, but the download speed to your phone will be VERY slow. I usually take the SD card out and connect it to my computer with the adaptor that it comes with.

__

This is the SD card I use;

SanDisk High Endurance Video Monitoring Card with Adapter 32GB (SDSDQQ-032G-G46A) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00V5Q1K3O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_9DoYCbF716Y7Z

I can’t stress enough about buying the special type of SD card like above. I made the mistake on cheaping our 4 years ago (SD cards were a lot more money than now) and one day I caught a hit and run and read out the license plate. When I went to view it on my computer, my video wouldn’t open because the SD card was worn out from overwriting so much. Make sure you buy and SD card which is meant to be constantly overwritten!

You laid out 2 scenarios, in both you lose all your money. If your point is that hoarding is different than investing in stocks then yes there is a difference, but bitcoin is different from stocks in many ways, and similar too. You also say "The utility is in the currency flow -- the payment system -- not the currency itself" to which I say, the markets say differently. You also have failed to account for capital flight which is not a "payment flow" but an acquire, move and perhaps sell which requires the asset, not just some asset. Again you are trying to separate the payment network from the asset which you cannot do.

Now fallacy yet again, and they might choose it for capital flight as carrying large amounts of cash is much more precarious.

This is a dumb metric. The thing just works and the one major issue is scale which is actively being worked on from here:

Libsecp256k1, which improved signature validation speeds by c7x

> Suuure. So small that it can fit in the feature phone of any peasant in Burkina Faso. Even Luke Dash Jr can almost keep up with it, almost.

You apparently missed the part about the pruning nodes. Why would a peasant need the entire chain? Oh that's right, this is just about spreading FUD.

> The blockchain design cannot handle that "required" growth

That's where layer 2 comes in.

> the block size would at least let the system function as it was designed

It was designed to be decentralized. IMO Core's wise to see the threat of evolving bitcoin to Paypal 2.0/Fiatcoin.

> A nomenclature note

I call you butters. Better names might be wall flowers, state worshipers, disruption deniers, shills, bitcoin enviers...

> If what we write (here or in your churches) can divide your community,

I didn't say you "can", but you do "try".

> That is how we got the "Fork of July", SegWit, RBF, CPFP -- and the "fee market" deployed before any "layer 2" network was even vaguely designed.

As I understood it, SegWit, RBF are prereqs and it seems the LN plan is pretty well laid out. Gavin didn't seem competent to me (as a professional software developer myself). He always seemed flippant and indecisive. You didn't respond on the 20MB block idea of his among other things. I try to respond point for point.

> 1) fuck the non-mining relay nodes,

So fuck decentralization then?

What I'm seeing here is that you take every possible negative position on bitcoin. You have nothing positive to say about it despite it at the very least solving a number of interesting and never before solved problems, decentralized trust, permissionless transactions and innovation, brilliant security incentivization. There are undeniable positives like the ability to back up your assets (can't do that with any other asset), send transactions without exposing the keys (as with credit cards) yet you are dismissive based on your other one-sided opinions and forgone conclusions. The market is wrong, everyone who uses it is an idiot, even if it succeeds for decades it will be a failure. That's quite a position.

Maybe it's just that like Professor Bitcorn you stuck your neck out too far too soon and now, rather than eat some crow, be a big man and admit you probably spoke too soon, you are too stubborn and prefer instead to continue to fight and deny and worst of all, to influence those that might have otherwise been early adopters. I'm seeing a lot of reports along those lines here: https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/5lkw6q/bitcoin_jumps_above_1000_for_first_time_in_three/?st=IXGBU8NB&sh=e3e1f5f5

It think it might be time for some reflection. Even skepticism is better in moderation.

I had asked something similar to this before, slightly but I wanted to check:

Would a 128 GB sized SD card like this be more than enough space for larger Digital titles, while leaving a decent amount of space for smaller games? (like VC stuff?)

On top of New Leaf/Tomodachi Life, looks like I’d need 67,698 more available blocks if I decided to go the download route for the 3 Pokémon games (which I might, since it would be easier than Switching cartridges... and then there’s that one time i almost lost my X cartridge...)

Granted I’m aware that I’ll have to format it first before to use it going by another in a previous comment to use it, first... but I think it’ll be enough...?

u/beyouorfuckyou · 1 pointr/WiiUHacks

I'm shopping for full-size SD cards for my Wii U ahead of hacking it. It's a 32GB model.

I've found 128GB cards well within my budget so I'm ready to pull the trigger on this one right here but I want to get my facts straight:

  • if I format the card to FAT32 and change the allocation size to the right setting, with the right SD card formatting app, will it probably work?
  • will the Wii U be able to see and use all 128GB of the card? I understand it will be closer 119.somethingGB in the OS, I'm not talking about that.
  • will I be able to use it to store Wii and VC games? GCN games, even?

Please don't tell me to just get a HDD right off. I will make up my own mind when I have the info I need. Thanks!

Is there a limit on the size or type of SD card that can be used? I'd like to order one like this one but want to confirm compatibility first.

u/Takanashi_Aihlia · 1 pointr/ipod
  1. Repairing it might even be something you could do yourself, if you wanted to try it. Here's a video guide on how to take it apart, and here's a text-and-picture based one. The only problem I foresee is the battery seems to be soldered on, and you'd probably definitely want to change that; but once it's open anyone with the ability to solder could that for you, and it's only taken apart with screws.

  2. It's probably the screen that's messed up, if you can see the contents but with no backlight. I literally just got an iPod (Classic) put back together today that a screen I ordered had no backlight working, and I had to order another one which worked fine.

  3. Probably. Hard drives and batteries are the most common failures.

  4. iTunes wouldn't recognize it, if the hard drive has failed.

  5. I have no idea what the three beeps are, but they're definitely a POST code failure response, to tell you something is wrong.

  6. You can replace the hard drive with a CF, but those are expensive for even the most modest storage sizes. It'd be much cheaper and more effective to get a SD to CF adapter card and an SD card which would run you $40 USD for 128GBs, where it'd be $40 USD to just get 64GBs via CF, and $70 to get the equivalent 128GBs via CF.

Controllers - there's tons to choose from. Depending on which games you plan on playing. If you want to do 8-bit and 16-bit games, an SNES style controller is probably best, that would work for obviously SNES, but Genesis or NES games as well. If you don't mind wires, go with the Buffalo SNES USB Controller. If you want to go wireless, go with 8Bitdo. The 8Bitdo also gives you few more options in terms of colors, so you get get one that looks like an American SNES controller with the purple buttons, an international SNES controller with rainbow buttons, an NES style controller with an SNES button layout, etc. Just don't cheap out, you'll see some SNES USB controllers on Amazon for dirt cheap, but they're terrible. Either get the Buffalos or the 8BitDos, or if you have an original SNES controller, you can get an USB adapter for it.

For Playstation or N64 games and anything newer, you would need a controller with more buttons and analog sticks. Again, you have tons of options, you can get Dualshock, X-Box 360, or Wii U Pro controllers, plus Logitech has some controllers that also have the right amount of buttons. These controllers can also be used for older games if you only want one set of controllers.

As for the case, you have tons of options, just search Amazon and see what case fits your style. Just be sure it fits the Pi 3.

Oh, and finally, you'll also need an HDMI cable if you don't have one.

Once you get all that, setting it up is rather easy. It seems intimidating, but I'm a total newbie when it comes to tech stuff, and I was able to get mine up and running without any major hiccups. If I could do it, I'm sure you could. It is pretty easy if you just follow instructions. And if you get lost and need help, you can always post on Reddit and someone will be willing to help out.

You can avoid the slowdown issue by not just buying the cheapest possible SD card (not accusing you, it's just been my experience that that is what most people do, buy the cheapest card in the size they want). There are newer, faster cards that are specifically designed for running apps off of...the newest ones are listed as "A1", but there are sufficiently fast cards before that standard was complete. I have a Samsung card that gets 60MB/s write speed (real world, not benchmark) in my phone, significantly faster than the internal eMMC storage will write.

u/cloroxbb · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

If you go up to the Samsung 128 Pro Select then you get 95Mbps read and 90Mbps write and its $75 or almost twice the price of the $40 one I am buying.

If you are on a tight budget getting a Yi or Yi 4k is not a bad decision at all.

Most people simply replace/overlay the original audio with music later.

If you though want to do a Vlog-style travel video a X3000 will not only give you better audio but also a high quality and stabilized video.

One advantage, which bith the Yi-cameras don't have is, that the Sony is splashproof and dustproof, which means you can use it without the case during rain/ at the beach without the risk of damaging your camera and still get good audio. With the Yi you nearly always have to use the case when you are outdoor, so it would render the already bad audio useless anyways.

It is your money, your choice. I hope I could help you with the decision with this reply.

If you have further questions, just reply to this comment.

  • Nic

P.S.: Don't forget, that you have to get a SD card (I recommend this for the X3000) for either camera.

Also you might want to get additional batteries or a powerbank to exchange an empty one and charge on the go.

If you have specific use questions, like you use the camera a lot or care about sound I can address those too, but I think this should cover most things.

Regarding your build question

***

The design is still really sharp, the 10 has a bezeled back and then is slightly curved. Not the smooth curved shape on the m8. I still like but it's definitely different. I'm using this case now and it basically feels the same as the m8 did.

I was originally attracted to the m8 because of the build quality, back when the flagship Samsung phones were plastic. The s7/s7 edge are now metal, similar to HTC's flagship line and they were the other phones I explored when updating. Because of this change the only major issues I have with the S7/S7 Edge is Samsung's OS overlay on top of Android (oh also their misplaced 'back' button). I used to use Nexus phones and HTC is probably the closest you can get to barebones Android on Verizon without flashing a rom, which right now you cant do on your own on a Verizon HTC 10. (Note I don't use the stock launcher so blinkfeed is not present).

Anyway..on to what you came for.

Major Changes

***

  • These include the USB-C charger. I have a ton of micro-usb cables which are now obsolete so you may have to snag a couple extra wires. But more importantly the phone and wall charger it comes with use Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0 which takes your battery from empty to full in about 1 hour which is awesome. Battery, as you'd imagine is one of my biggest concerns and this definitely helps with that, but I'll go more into the battery in a minute.

  • Other build based issues include the relocation of the headphone jack from the bottom of the m8 to the top on the 10. When I place my phone in my pocket (front right) it is oriented with the top of the phone facing toward the ground so that I can pull it out with it being right-side up, that's a bit annoying now, but not the end of the world for me.

  • They also moved the power button to the right, just below the volume buttons, this took a little getting used to but I now don't find it uncomfortable and it allows me to take a screen shot with one finger.

  • The fingerprint scanner is a fast easy way to unlock your phone and I've found the scanner/home button to be comfortable.

  • Oh! I amost forgot, one of the most important things for me was expandable storage. The 10 supports up to a 2 TB microSD card which I don't think even exist currently. You can set the SD card such that the phone treats the space as part of the internal drive so now "move to SD" issues are nonexistent. I snagged this 128gb card for about $70 you can find cheaper ones if you're okay with a slower card. I wanted to go with the UHS-1 3 card which has speed enough for 4K video and I figured if it's working as part of the internal system I didn't want it to be slowed down by my choice of SD Card (not sure this is a thing).

    Concerns/Likes:

    ***

I was nervous with my decision just after I made the purchase. My biggest concern being battery life. The S7 and S7 Edge have been shown to have at least slightly better battery life (the edge even more so) than the HTC 10. It was maybe an hour longer on the S7 and a couple on the Edge, I can find the real numbers if you want.

But ast forward a little, after using the phone for a couple of weeks I have less concern. Even with playing way too much Pokemon Go it hasn't been a huge issue. I can get the exact numbers if you want but I think While playing Pokemon Go with medium to high brightness and the screen always on it's slightly under 1%/minute. The phone battery really shines with it's incredibly low battery drain while the phone is unused for extended periods of time. It uses only 3-4% total while I'm sleeping.

My general biggest concern regarding battery life is how I expect it to look a year or two from now. So if it's cutting it close today then a year from now it could be in real trouble. I'm mildly concerned with this still but there are QuickCharge 3.0 battery packs and I'm never too far from an outlet. Unfortunately there isn't data on battery life at the 1 year/2 year mark. FWIW I opted to not trade it in for the $35 restocking fee to switch to the S7 Edge.

    Other issues:

  • The 10 lacks a native music player which was a little annoying. The reason apparently being that they're trying to minimize extra apps and want you to use Play Music and other Google things. I just downloaded a simple player from the play store which even lets me edit song data which I couldn't before so that's cool.

  • The phone also does not come with headphones in the US. Apparently they're decent earbuds. I have other sets I use and over-ear headphones so I wasn't forced to purchase any separately. When you first plug in headphones you have the option of setting up a sound profile for them which was actually pretty nifty setting up the phones output to work with my specific headphones it came out sounding really good.

If you have any questions I can go into other things. I'm assuming this is way more than you wanted already.

    soooo....

TL;DR - Go for it. I've been enjoying it so far.

I got my a6500 last week and this memory card. When I try to record in 4K, it gives me a message that the card isn't capable of recording at that setting. It has the U3 and class 10 logos, which I thought were all that were required.

What am I missing here?

I've got two 128GB sandisk extreme pro ones, on light-medium shoot days i usually stay within or barely hit the GB cap. I shoot on an a6500 and do a lot of client work in 4K.

they're super versatile and a rather inexpensive one time investment

As long as the card is UHS-I you should be fine.

Just a note, the a7III will reject some cards as soon as they're put in for 4K video, even if the card can handle the speed - because they're not UHS-I. ie it's rejecting the cards because they believe they're not good enough, without even trying. From memory it might do that if you're under 64Gb as well, though I can't recall precisely.

I tried putting some old cards in the camera, not UHS-I but fast enough to handle 4K. 3 identical cards - 2 worked and the third it brought up a message saying I needed a UHS-I card.

I can confirm this card definitely works - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01J5RH06K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 .

I thought the same, but I have fallen in love my used 2.8 with a polarizer on it (also, highly recommend). Mess with that and see what else you need. For instance, I use that and the 55-210mm zoom; I think those 2 lenses allow me to do everything I want, with the 30mm being on my alpha 92% of the time. Maybe a 12mm for wide landscape are in my future? Nonetheless, 30mm is a great start, then take your time to discover what focal length you need for what occasions!
Get a strap that’ll be comfortable for you, I got this 2-in-1 strap for casual carrying and I switch to the wristlet for when I’m actively shooting. A nice card, maybe a hot shoe cover, and maybe a Gorillapod hybrid

So here is my wishlist for Camera things I sent my husband:

Think Tank Bag

I actually just got this for our anniversary on Halloween and it's freaking amazing. I love Think Tank everything because a) they're so incredibly thoughtful in their design and b) they're made incredibly well. This bag is replacing the current bag I carry JUST lenses and accessories in on the wedding day. On that note their rollerbag is what I use to carry everything and it's also amazing.

Helios Lens

This is basically a trash russian lens that provides really interesting bokeh and intense, awesome sun flare.

Holdfast

I have one of these already, there's a lot of reviews about camera straps, but as a woman it's been the most comfortable strap I've had. I have the American Bison one, it's very soft and incredibly well made. I get compliments on it at weddings all the time, it looks super professional!

Apple Watch

So nice for checking time, texting, and keeping track of timelines on the day of. I love it.

Mouse

If she needs any computer upgrades that would be a great option too. I need a new mouse because mine is a piece of shit, but monitors, monitor calibration, wacom tablet, etc could be nice too.

All the Microfiber cloths, batteries and SD cards

I buy all these things like candy every season. You can really never have enough of any of them.

As far as her home studio, the first thing I would look at is her chair. Art is nice and everything, but loving her chair and workspace makes such a huge difference. It's hard sitting ALL DAY, my back and neck hurt after a full day. I re-did most of my office and bought a bunch of plants and a new desk and it's made my days much better. Next purchase is a chair.

Hope this helps! I'm sure she'll love whatever you get her :).

Im looking to get 2 Sandisk extreme pro SD cards, i was browsing amazon and found two of the same(?) item:

https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Extreme-UHS-I-Flash-Memory-x/dp/B005LFT3UW/ref=sr_1_4_acs_ac_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1542764375&sr=1-4-acs&keywords=sandisk+extreme+pro+64gb

I notice one of them has the symbol V30 on the card and is somehow a little cheaper.

Is there a difference between the two or is one just a newer version?

u/TheHomelessNomad · 1 pointr/SonyAlpha

You do not need UHS-II for 4k. There are plenty of UHS-I cards that can handle 4k. As long as you have the appropriate card for 4k, there will be no benefit to getting an even faster card. It is either fast enough to record 4k or it isn't. I would like to tell you more about how these cards are rated with speed and all that, but TBH that stuff kind of confuses me. I usually shoot on SanDisk Extreme Pro edition cards they get the job done for 90% of what I do. Then I have two (I accidentally bought two, but I only need one) Sony UHS-II G Cards for when I need high fps or a big buffer. I usually use these cards for wildlife or street photography. I have yet to push them to their limit. Truth be told, for the way I shoot, I probably do not need them at all, but it is nice to have one lying around for the rare instance that I do need it.

> RAVPower batteries, and the little charger unit. How do these compare to the o

  1. i've had good experience with those same RAVPower batteries, another user posted saying he got very poor battery life and suspected he got dud's. Definitely try them a few full charges before your trip .

2)you need SDXC , at least 64GB and it should say UH3 on it. I bought a lexxar one off amazon but it rated no where near the speed it should of been so returned and got a sandisk extreme. Which works great.
    link here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01J5RHD58/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  2. That's a tricky question, as I personally like to keep the RAW files and would backup via a laptop, you don't have that luxury. Copying to the iPad via the direct wifi connection everynight is an option, im guessing it doesnt transfer raw. from there you could upload to somewhere like dropbox for extra security and peace of mind. 64GB is pretty huge for photos, if your not taking video you might be fine in terms of capacity, however still recommended to back up in case you loose the camera whilst your out.

EDIT: It should be noted that memory card spec , is minimum for video recording in 4k XAVC, if your just doing photos then your fine getting something cheaper.

u/vonsmor · 1 pointr/assholedesign

Pi 4 is overkill, a 2 would work fine, but I'd recommend a Pi 3 for $34 cause it is better hardware and will probably last longer. I tried a PiHole on a Nano just for fun but the PiHole GUI preformed abysmally.

and don't cheap out on the SD card, splurge and get a $5 - 16GB SanDisk or something reputable. I have about 9 active Pi's now running 24/7 for years and the only problems I ever have run into are due to corrupted or failed sd cards, because I used old crap laying around my office, or the cheapo ones they put in those Pi bundles you see on amazon. All the other stuff in the bundles is fine (power, usb cables, hdmi adapters, heat sinks cases, etc) but the cards always blow.

For a Pihole all you should need is a 16GB micro SD card(8 would work, but good companies don't seem to make them anymore) a micro usb cable for power, and an ethernet cable to attach it to your router. If you don't have a laptop or something with a micro SD slot, you may need something like this for the setup process(setting up the sd card is done on a computer)

u/Oleaster · 1 pointr/Bittboy

I tried using etcher to flash this to a fresh 16gb sd card and was getting the error "source and destination checksums do not match" after the process completed. It created four partitions on the card and two seem unaccessible. Am I doing something wrong? I'm new to this and I haven't received my PocketGo yet, but I'm trying to get my card prepared.

You could get a raspberry pi 3+ and a 1 - 2TB 2.5 inch hard drive with a hard drive dock that powers via USB.

If the devices in the household will direct play the files, then the raspberry pi will simply serve as a basic NAS and the 1-2TB hard drive should spin up powered from the dock.

For instance:

Raspberry Pi 3+: £32.47 / $42.46

Memory Card for RPi3: £5.84 / $7.64

USB Enclosure for HDD: £7.65 / $10.00

2TB Toshiba 2.5" Drive: £48.19 / $63.03

You'd be looking at £94.15 / $123.11 (i know it will cost different in USA but simply using exchange rate conversion).

It would also take up less space than a single DVD and would possibly hold 71 REMUX 1080p movies. However, you could go for lower quality "1080p" versions and get alot more on there.

I have some spare RPi3's and the above to test this on your behalf :)

Edit: However if you arnt too bothered about size, then buying a second hand PC would be significantly better but the above purely factors in the smallest possible form factor!

u/Ishouldnt_be_on_here · 1 pointr/nesclassicmods

My guess would be getting a new sd card. The size isn't the problem, but the speed probably is. Look for the circle with a number inside it on the card.

See this chart to see what I'm talking about On top of that, if the card is old and has been used often it may have degraded and not perform as well.

I'd look for at least class 10/UHC1. UHC 3 would probably meet any demands you'd ever need for your SNES. They also have A1 and A2 classes meant for Android phones, but they'd work just as well for your use.

SD cards are super cheap nowadays, and you'll get way more memory with more performance out of it, for a fraction of what you paid for that one I bet.

This one is 16GB A1 for $6…!

Pat,

Order Number: #20837 here. I've been trying to reach you unsuccessfully since April 19th. Please reply.

Original e-mails:

Me:

Pat,

Thank you for getting back to me, these did arrive shortly after your email. I am experiencing some issues though. I wasn't able to get one of them working so I removed it and tried the other with some success. I'm able to see the expanded storage and use it some of the time, but more often than not the system will lock up not allowing anything to be done with it. Is this an issue you've run into at all?

I'm going to try the other one on a different system but if that won't work can I send this back for a replacement?

Thank you for your time.

You:

Yeah I apologize, this is something that happens with some cards. I've dumped at least 40 hours into this issue and as far as I can tell it's only an issue with larger cards, especially SDXC cards. I've determined that there's something wrong with the way Hakchi2 prepares the system for SD compatibility. I've been in close talks with the devs and have supplied them with hardware so they can test. They are able to replicate the issue, so it's really a matter of time until we find a solution.

Since you've confirmed you're having the same issue, can I ask when you purchased your system? I'm having a hard time nailing down which systems are affected, whether it's a certain release line or across the board.

Once a solution comes out I will be sending a message to anyone who has bought a Super Storage and notify them to update to the latest version of Hakchi2.

Thank you!

Me:

Pat,

This system was just recently purchased. As for the other board, I did install it into another SNES classic and it acts the same as the first. It will flicker a bit but eventually go dark. I did swap the SD board and both are fine, is there any way I can send this back to get a replacement/refund? While one does partially work and as you've stated, is being worked on to overcome the issues you're having, I may not be able to use the other one since it was for a friend.

FYI this is the SDHC card I purchased. It was the smallest one I could find that was a decent price:

First of all, let me thank you for such a detailed and well thought out post!

So I've got this charger. It's a new charger, cable all looks good and is about 1.5m long.

This SD Card

This cooling/case I have unplugged the fan, it's too loud. I'm looking for a quiet fan, but the heatsinks seem to have been adequate for now, I think.

My external drive is self-powered via AC, although it is not the best drive, it does work. I can access and play all of the media just fine, it's just that last stage of scanning the library where it all goes wrong. I forgot to mention that when you power back up, it has updated the library with the new media!

I'm currently moving a file over to /storage and I will try scanning library without the external drive plugged in to see if it makes a difference.

I did have a fan plugged in, but it was too noisy so it's out for now. I haven't overclocked the Pi myself, and a arm_freq gives me 1400.

I did think about overvolting. It's something to explore if all else fails.

I'm on the LibreELEC 9.0.1.

So, it doesn't crash when the external drive isn't plugged in and scanning the library, but there is only 1 media file to find.

I'd personally go 64gb since you can record continously for up to 30 hours before overwriting (depending on fps settings). See this link for breakdown on recording times:

If you were wanting a usb flash drive, the only name brand one that I know that goes up to 512gb is Corsair, but you’re really paying out for that price.
Alternatively, if your machine has and SD slot, you could go for a Samsung Evo SD, which is a slightly more reasonable price.

u/dirkadirka666 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I was able to very recently pick up a 512GB Micro SD Card for $89, which was a worthwhile investment for me because my digital library has expanded greatly since I got my switch at launch (I’m at about 90 games now, with I think 16 physical)

However, I also see that this 400GB Micro SD Card is on sale for $56.99 right now. If you don’t think the extra $32 is worth the extra 112GB (I don’t blame you) then that’s an absolute steal. Prices on Micro SD cards have dropped by an average of over 30% in the last month by my estimate.

I will say you probably don’t want to get a “phone case” type case for your switch due to the fact that you need to dock it. Invest in a good Tempered Glass Screen Protector , and get a good Carrying Case . I use and highly recommend the ones linked. The carrying case is a perfect fit for the switch without holding the joycons too tightly; it straps the switch in with velcro. The 12 game cart capacity and the elastic cart holders is also the best solution I’ve seen in any case. I am able to put joycon straps and headphones in the little pocket without worrying about anything hitting the switch, since the game cart flap is soft on the back and acts as a barrier between the two. The tempered glass screen protector has lasted me two years without a scratch.

EDIT: as a further note, the theoretical limit to the switch’s SD capacity is 4TB but micro SD cards only go up to 1TB at the time of writing, and those cost $449

I assume you're playing on an older iPhone? I can't recall an Android without expandable storage. 16GB SD cards are literally under $10, but if you're on an iPhone that sucks man, looks like time for an upgrade

u/cosmopaladin · 0 pointsr/WiiHacks

You can't use an SDHC card you need an old school SD card (they only make these up to 2G). I personally got one of these. Follow the stickied guide on this subreddit. You don't need any emulators for Wii or Gamecube games or games that where sold on the Virtual console by Nintendo. There are emulators available if you want games not in those three list, but almost everything worth playing came out on the Virtual console and controller support is really good for them (classic pro or gamecube controller is the way to go for these. They are already mapped and everything).

The overview of the whole process is

  • Using MiiMod or something to trigger a buffer overflow to install BootMii and the Homebrew channel (This is what you launch all your hacked apps from)
  • loading up some homebrew apps onto your SD card (USB Loader GX, Nintendont, YAWMM, d2x-cios)
  • Use d2x-cios to install the correct cios so you can play file images of Wii and gamecube games

EDIT: You can use SDHC cards if you have system menu 4.0 or greater.

Depends on your microSD card reading speed. You'll want to look at the high-range ones to read large 1080p / 3D movies. Here's an example of a class 10 straight from Amazon for reference. Otherwise some of the lower end microSD cards, while they can hold a lot, are not going to read a 1080p file fast enough to make it run clearly or well. Here's an example of a class 4 which will not run those files well.

2.) Use a small Phillip's head screwdriver to quickly take apart the receiver from your TPCast and swap the SDCard out for your newly loaded one. (Keep your old MicroSD, in case you ever need to go back)

3.) Download VirtualHere and pay the one time $25 for your OpenTPCast key(which you will get in email afterward). Open VirtualHere and paste the key you bought into it.

4.) From now on (to start VR) you just start "VirtualHere", wait about 5 seconds until it connects to your TPCast and shows your Vive and controllers "In Use"(if they dont show "in use" you can right click each one and click "Use"). Start SteamVR and play as normal. ("VirtualHere" just takes the place of your old "TPCast" software which connects to the TPCast/OpenTPCast prior to starting SteamVR).

Benefits:

  1. Noticeably better framerate and also no "gray screen" moments during gameplay (which sometimes you may get on the normal TPCast).

  2. Mic works flawlessly!

Note: Front facing camera still doesn't work, as normal with TPCast

P.S. Do NOT "Backup and Flash" the original SD Card from your TP Cast! (Save your old one which can be swapped back into it at any time.) The software on your original Mirco SD is specific to your device and can NOT be retrieved/re-loaded to go back.

The new $5 Class 10 16GB Micro SD is a cheap zero-risk choice and also performs better giving you a better experience, no slow-down of framerate and gets rid of "grayscreens" or loss-signal crashes forever.

Edit: Sorry, I fucked up.

Still the 64gb class 10 cards are very cheap. As 'notmynothername' pointed out: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-microSDXC-Memory-Adapter-SDSDQUA-064G-U46A/dp/B007WTAJTO/ref=pd_cp_pc_0

That is definitely microSDXC.
