Here are some of the chargers that are known to perform "GOOD" or "BEST" with the Switch.

Best

Charger|Price (USD)|Link|Notes
--|--|--|--
Nintendo Switch AC Adapter|$29.99|Amazon US|This is the only charger you should use with the dock but it's big and doesn't work great with any phones
Google 18W Pixel charger|$35|Google Store|More portable than Nintendo's charger, great at charging phones too, 6ft detachable cable
Google 60W USB-C charger|$59.99|Google Store|Bundled with Chromebook Pixel 2, great for laptops, very long 12ft cable
Apple 61W USB-C charger|$69|Amazon US, Apple|Bundled with 2016 13" MacBook Pro, no cable included
Apple 87W USB-C charger|$79|Amazon US, Apple|Bundled with 2016 15" MacBook Pro, no cable included
RAVPower 26800mAh USB-PD battery|$74.99|Amazon US|Might charge much slower unless you turn off the Switch before plugging it in. Avoid the included bad AC adapter.

Cables

I won't list prices here since they fluctuate a lot. Some of the chargers listed above have a non-removable cable. All the others (except the iPad charger) require a USB C-to-C cable.

USB C-to-C: For the Macbook, Google, SONEic, and battery pack chargers listed above. Here are a few on Amazon: AmazonBasics,
Anker, Cable Matters, Aukey.

USB A-to-C: The iPad charger is the only one that gives good charging speeds with these. The 5ft cable included with the Pro Controller works. Here are some others on Amazon: AmazonBasics, Anker, Cable Matters, Aukey.

No matter which charger you use, it doesn't matter whether the cable says it's USB 2.0, USB 3.0, or USB 3.1. They all charge at the same speed. Just make sure it has the correct plug shape on each end, that it has good reviews at a reputable merchant, and that it's long enough for how you want to use it.

Get this, now all I have to do to see my notifications is turn my head towards my phone. Don’t even have to reach for it or anything.

Edit: I'll keep adding things as I remember them. I'm not adding the usual stuff like laptops, ipads, gym gear, etc, because those seem...common sense?

  • Cold meds with pseudoephedrine
  • Magnets (for lockers if you get one)
  • 3M command hooks of varying weight limits
  • Strong plastic coat hangars
  • 550 cord (I'd say no more than 30' of it)
  • Headlamp with red and white light (find one that you don't have to go "through" the white to get to the red!)
  • 2-3 good quality plastic clothes pins to hold curtains closed or some other task (the ones linked are identical to the ones at the Dollar Store for, I think, $4 for 12)
  • Knife sharpener
  • Pocket knife
  • Suction cup hook for the shower (if you use a bath scrubby)
  • Nail clippers and nail file
  • Small FA kit (bandaids, etc)
  • Small sewing kit with the right colours of thread
  • GoToobs for stuff like shampoo and body wash (and aloe gel if you burn)
  • Bose noise cancelling headphones (with a spare battery)
  • Camera (don't be the guy that brings a DSLR with 5 lenses)
  • Couple of power adapters if power is different
  • Water bottle (and denture cleaning tablets to clean it if there's no bottle brush)
  • Couple of locks (combo or keyed-alike, varying sizes)
  • Travel blanket
  • Inflatable neck pillow (the best one I've ever used)
  • Anker USB battery bank (love Anker products!)
  • Anker PowerPort
  • Depending on living accommodations, I also have a "travel kitchen" that I take with me that has a good Santoku knife, cutting board, pepper grinder and garlic press.
  • 2-3 tide pods because it could be a few days or a week before you get to the PX
  • If you know your sleeping arrangements, buy a "bed in a bag" for that bed size. Nothing like having your own good sheets to slide into after a rough day. Make sure you wash everything before heading over, so they're soft and ready to go when you get there.
  • A collapsable shoe organizer that you can use to store gitch, socks, t-shirts, etc, or even a collapsable sweater organizer (or two) if you want more horizontal space and less vertical.
  • If you're coming home or going somewhere on HLTA, don't forget to pack a civvie-pattern backpack. Don't be the guy wandering around a foreign airport wearing your day pack and combat boots in jeans.
  • Birthday/Anniversary/special event cards that you can mail from your location (shows you were thinking of them well in advance of your departure and before the event). Bonus points if it's a mushy anniversary card to a significant other, ensuring that your return is "extra special".

Thanks, the stand is one from anker that I got on amazon, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0753Z4PGC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_jlnJwPiN3uBkQ

Some kind of wireless charging pad?

Odd that it would be in a van, though, as you'd think the phone would just keep falling off.

u/xeneral · 11 pointsr/Nexus6P

Buy this for your long car ride.

It has single USB-C port and two USB-A ports. Charger's total output is 49.5W so no voltage sag will be experienced. Although it can only charge a 2015 Macbook at only 19.5W instead of 29W which the wall charger can produce.

u/kirklennon · 11 pointsr/apple

Batteries aren't that fussy. Extreme temperatures are far more problematic for them than the tiny differences that may result from different charging patterns. You should just use it like you want to use it and not worry about it. Having wireless chargers in places you regularly set your phone make it easy to just constantly top it up, which makes your life more convenient, and that's the only concern worth having.

As for recommendations: Anker makes cheap, reliable chargers with simple, clean designs. Personally, I don't think it's worth paying any extra for models that can charge faster because the great thing about using wireless chargers is that they can just be slowly charging in situations where you'd otherwise have them simply sitting on a desk slowly draining.

I've got one flat charger (Amazon link) that I use on my nightstand and another stand up version that I keep on my desk at work. It's wonderful with Face ID because I can just tap the screen and look at it and it unlocks.

u/onekrazykat · 10 pointsr/gadgets

They make one that sits up on an angle that makes it pretty dummy proof.

u/CrunchyFrog · 10 pointsr/nexus4

The answer is the Panasonic chargepad. Here it is on Amazon. Ten out of eleven reviews are 5-stars.

u/schai · 10 pointsr/Ultralight

You sure these are lighter than just Anker's batteries?

Your setup: 9180mAh total/6.8oz = 1350mAh/oz

Anker PowerCore 10,000mAh: 10,000mAh/6.35oz = 1575mAh/oz

Anker Astro E1 6,700mAh: 6,700mAh/4.2oz = 1595mAh/oz

Anker PowerCore 3350mAh: 3,350mAh/2.56oz = 1308mAh/oz

It's neat but unless you really only need exactly 1 or 2 of those battery packs (and care about ~0.5oz savings), I'd say just stick with Anker due to convenience and safety.

EDIT: If you got a few of the exact same batteries, you could potentially build a small plastic attachment with a single circuit board and just swap out the batteries. That would be both cheaper and lighter. The extra USB ports are pretty unnecessary.

TV: 2013 Samsung F8000. Somebody returned this to Best Buy just two days after they bought it, and I managed to get it 30% off! Absolutely stunning picture.

Fronts: Martin Logan Motion 40s. I went to audition some bookshelves at Best Buy, and after the rep had me listen to these guys, I fell in love. I managed to find the pair for $1499 on eBay, free shipping. ML says 72 hours at 90dB to break in, but they already sound incredible. Though I need some help with positioning to get the best sound.

Subwoofer: SVS SB12-NSD Recommended here as a solid entry level sub. Sounds great so far (Though I don't have much to compare it to).

A/V Receiver: Marantz SR5007. Also recommended here as a good entry level receiver that'll allow me to build up to a 5.1 from the current 2.1. Bought refurbished for $499.

Another shot with the grills off

u/g_throww · 8 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

There's good reason to use the official dock. That said, if you're willing to risk it a little, the Insignia dock has had good reviews and is far cheaper. There have been 0 reported cases of it bricking a Switch.

For plugging in the Switch, any car charger with at least 39W output over USB-PD should work for docked mode. I'd recommend getting a USB-IF charger, since you're pretty much guaranteed that it's safe. Here's a good option: https://www.amazon.com/Nekteck-Certified-Charger-Delivery-Included/dp/B075WQQG7C

Note that I haven't actually tried the above charger, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

(/u/queuebitt of https://switchchargers.com fame can probably add more details)

u/Berzerker7 · 8 pointsr/GooglePixel

"USB-PD" is a USB spec for fast charging, Power Delivery.

The Pixel 2 (XL) support up to 18W charging over USB-PD, 9V/2A, but also support regular USB-C charging at 15W, 5V/3A.

27W USB-PD charging, 9V/3A, is not supported on the Pixel 2/XL.

The 15W Belkin charger is a little expensive for what it is. I'd get this over it, it's also USB-IF certified, and supports 5V/3A charging over USB-C.

u/n2speed125 · 7 pointsr/iPhoneXsMax

I have this one and it's been great. No need for fast charging since it sits there while I sleep..

Hey nice thread!

Here is mine:

[C-note DIY kit] (https://www.parts-express.com/c-note-mt-bookshelf-speaker-kit-pair-with-knock-down-cabinets--300-7140): $100

Insignia STR514: $100

Just noticed price went up 50 bucks :( These may be about to go out of stock finally.

Paint, stands, clamp and misc shit: $150

Total: $800

Spend the rest on dope and beer.

u/BostonGraver · 6 pointsr/Nexus7

I have one of these at work. I can manage to fit the Nexus 7 and Nexus 4 on it such that when one finishes charging it automatically switches to the other.

u/mr_easy_e · 6 pointsr/audiophile

This is also available on Amazon and has been for some time. Personally, I'd rather get it there than eBay.

I considered this and the SB-1000 when I purchased my SVS SB-2000. The SVS rep said that for the price point for this on Amazon, this was by far the best value, and the performance was somewhere between the 1000 and 2000 (the SB-2000 is the model that replaced this). I ended up getting an open box SB-2000 and am more than happy with it, but I'm sure this would have been just about as good.

If it helps, there are wireless charging coils that can be attached to the phone and plugged in to the USB-C port so that it simulates wireless charging, like this: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01M11UT3V

u/Irishman97 · 6 pointsr/GooglePixel

I know it sounds ratchet but...

https://www.amazon.com/Version-Wireless-Charging-Receiver-Nillkin/dp/B06Y5FDXD4/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=usbc+qi+receiver&qid=1566017192&s=gateway&sprefix=usbc+qi&sr=8-3

I'm curious if this would satisfy most people wanting wireless charging. Once I've moved to wireless charging I've barely plugged my phone in to charge anymore. I get these cheap Anker wireless chargers and have them around the house and work, so I never need to plug my phone in anymore.

With that any plastic, rubber, or cloth case you should be good to wirelessly charge. Hell maybe even a Dbrand skin would cover it up

As far as water proofing, otter box maybe? I got an otter box for my OG pixel XL for that reason when traveling or just for in the shower.

On top of that I bet the otter box would hide the qi receiver perfectly

I picked up this Pleson Fast Charger from Amazon last week. Solid product, works well, easy on the wallet.

Apple mentions Mophie and therefore everyone thinks they have to get Mophie.

I grabbed three of these and they are perfect. Plus, they sit upright. I don't want my X laying down on its back like my ex wife.

Just upright and happy for all to see.

u/LukieInTheSix · 5 pointsr/iPhoneX

I'm using this one here.

u/ajaxsirius · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Iirc the switch's charger does not correctly follow the USB-PD specifications. Therefore it is absurdly difficult to find a charger that is guaranteed to work. Also, using 3rd party docks is not recommended.

With that being said, if you're looking for a USB-PD wall charger that can do 15V/2.6A, this Anker Powerport Atom PD 2 is rated on amazon (but not on Anker's website) as being 15V/3A.

u/NoXander007 · 5 pointsr/Futurology

Flawless voice and video recording, portable light that doesn't burn, basic math, controlled vibrations, touch screen... couple others that don't require any infrastructure.

Battery life is the only concern, doesn't need anything else than sun for power, really.

Considering we're in theory going back in time, might as well theoretically be prepared for life there :P

The only option to go wireless will occupy your c-port always.

A qi receiver is attached (under a case) to allow charging on a qi charging mat.

This means no headphones or aux unless you have the HD Audio accessory.

If you don't care about wired sound, you can connect to other things via Bluetooth.

I love this (Japanese) one from Panasonic:

http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-QE-TM101-K-Black-Wireless-Charger/dp/B0051R4ECM

Want to spread the love for the current SVS SB12-NSD deal as much as possible! It's also on Amazon, but I bought it direct from SVS because 1. SVS has a 45 day guarantee and 2. for some reason Amazon charges me sales tax and SVS does not.

If you're interested in buying a sub, look up some of the threads on this one and check out this sale!

u/BeardedAlbatross · 4 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

I am going to recommend you pick up a set of the B-stock RBH R55Ti tower speakers and pair it with the R56Ci center channel and you will have a serious front soundstage for $850. This will really outperform the Elac debut speakers if you have the width for a center channel like that. For a subwoofer I'm going to recommend picking up a pair of SVS SB12-NSD at $900 for both. This setup is something you can pretty much not have to upgrade.

For your surrounds check out the RBH R5bi at only $180 a pair.

If you want either a single sub solution or do not have that kind of space for a center channel, I can provide some alternates.

Leaving on 8/23 out of happy isles for my JMT trip

I will be bringing an Anker 6700 and a UL solar panel. I tested the panel at home when I got it and it would fully charge the Anker in a day of just sitting facing up (not angled at the sun). This was in the winter as well, I would expect in the Sierra to get good coverage and sun intensity. It weighs less than 3 oz. Its super cheap but the build quality is not great, you really have to be careful with the USB connector or it will be damaged (most of the bad reviews are either people who damaged the USB connector or people that dont understand how much power a 10w solar panel is supposed to output). When you plug in or unplug a usb you have to hold the connector still.

The battery pack will charge my phone twice on its own. I dont plan on using it that much and I likely will only need another 1-2 charges to get me through the whole thing with airplane mode on, so if in non ideal testing conditions I got a full battery in a day, I think expecting a full battery over the course of the entire trip with it strapped to the top of my pack is reasonable. The only other piece of gear I need it for is my headlamp. I chose the 6700 because it is lighter than the Anker Powercore 5000. It does this by lacking quick charging, the input is less for charging the device from the wall, but the output to your device is the same. So if you plan to charge by outlet it is a terrible choice, but by charging via solar its perfect.

You bought it at Costco, you can return it. That’s a huge benefit of the membership.

I’ve been using one of these from Anker on my nightstand and another on my counter for our 2 XS phones for almost a year.

They don’t hum or whine, and if the blue light bothers you at night just block it with tape.

I’m traveling now and I’ve used it as a stand on the airplane and hotel desk to watch shows. Charges landscape or portrait.

u/Imlulse · 4 pointsr/GooglePixel

I swore off USB-C PD car chargers for a long time, they were largely a hot mess back around the time of the OG Pixel launch and that phone (and the P2) could charge at a decent 10-12W rate off old Type A chargers anyway (not the P3 tho). I even bought a couple for Nathan K to test with his fancy gear and they were colossal failures.

There were a couple decent ones but mostly single port and/or fixed cable ones... I recall the Verizon branded one actually being solid (it was made by a pretty large OEM of this stuff with a good rep, I forget the name, starts with an X I think). I mean, heck, Belkin had to recall a car charger that they were selling in Google's own store and it was months before they replaced it.

Anyway, just a word of warning, I'd avoid anything with iffy reviews or that has been out too long... Something USB-IF certified or with a decent warranty (like Belkin's) at least means it's been looked over or has someone standing behind it. Having said that, this 45W Nekteck USB-C PD + Type A charger is USB-IF certified and has been getting good word of mouth reports.

They also have this smaller one that will be just as fast for the purpose of charging a phone (which won't draw over 18W), but the Type A port is only good for 5W so if you need to charge something fast off that port you might as well pay a couple bucks more for the other one. If you need to charge two USB PD capable phones there's this Scosche.

It should be able to charge two phones at full speed (18W each), not USB-IF certified AFAIK but Nathan K reviewed and okayed their dual 18W AC charger, and Scosche has been making pretty solid car chargers for a long time... Pricier than Nekteck's tho. Their dual USB-C PD home AC charger is worth a look too, even tho it's pricier still, as that's a rarity.

Google sold a 21.5W non-PD one that basically supplied 15W & 7.5W with load balancing for a while, but dual PD chargers have been hard to come by otherwise. The smaller Scosche is probably not worth it vs the smaller Necktek or even the larger one since it's priced as high as the latter and not rated for any more than the former.

Edit: There's a version of the Necktek with a built in cable too, but being able to replace it seems like the better long term bet IMO, plus allows you to go as long or as short as you need.

I see what you're bringing in other replies. And I don't have recommendations for those things.

But what I don't see is anything about your work tools. I would imagine that robot installation and servicing would require a hardware toolkit, an electronics toolkit, and a computing toolkit.

I'd recommend getting a charger from a well known brand. Anker is regarded as one of the best when it comes to aftermarket chargers.
They sell a few 60W chargers (stock is 65W, but the Anker 60W charger I use is practically the same charging time).
I'm not sure if these are sold by Amazon MX, might need to purchase from eBay, etc:

What you are doing is dangerous, I strongly recommend you just throw that dongle away.

You CANNOT go from USB Type-C to any other type of port with a dongle. That is explicitly forbidden by the USB spec for good reason, as USB C can supply such high amounts of charge, converting blindly to other ports can cause fires.

The short answer to your problem, is you're going to need to buy a USB Type-C to mini/micro USB cable, and not a dongle. The cable will know it's only a mini/micro port and be incapable of charging at the full USB Type-C speeds, but it will charge your speaker properly.

The dongle you own is trying to trick the USB C cable into working with a different type of port, which is why it could be very dangerous because the USB cable itself doesn't know what type of charge to properly send.

If you want to use a dongle, you have to go the other direction, with micro/mini to USB C, which will then limit USB C to the slow charge speed that the cable can actually handle.

EDIT: Just to note, since your pictures are very vague. If that Samsung charger does not have a detachable cable, you'll also need a different charger, where the USB C cable is detachable.

Here are some suggestions to get you down to just a single charger and 1/2 cables:

I got this one : https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0753Z4PGC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

For a few reasons. Goal was to charge overnight. Angle to see the time at night (always on option is set to work during night). Not a fast charger to preserve battery life / not overheating the battery / phone. This is on my night stand. Anker is also a reliable maker. I would have selected a fast charge one for other places at home or office. But better charge slow overnight.

On a side note, power button on back becomes unavailable when putting the phone on the charger. Since I go to bed after wife, the phone illuminate the room / wife when it start charging. Quickly double tapping the status bar shut off the screen :) So not an issue anymore. Could be useful for some.

Get a car charger that has a USB C port and supports Power Delivery. For example:

I wanted to charge my Yoga 920 in my car, so I bought this and it charges fine. So third party chargers are a go, at least the one I bought works.

I pulled the WiFi NIC out and replaced it with the Intel Wireless-AC 9260. Works great. Be sure to download the driver first before replacing the card... or just use another computer to download them and transfer it with a USB drive.

To add: I have no idea if swapping wifi cards voids your warranty. If you find out, please let me know.

I was recommended this charger when my last one caused the screen on my first Pixel 2 to short out and not work. Works as intended and even allows for rapid charging as well as an additional USB plugin.

u/Athlex · 3 pointsr/thinkpad

Cool, is that this model here? Did you select any cable in particular to connect the charger to your T480s?

u/SlipperyJim211 · 3 pointsr/iPhoneXR

Two thoughts:

  1. Nothing about this particular charging solution is specific to the iPhone XR. You can use it with an iPhone XR, but you can also use it with any other iPhone which supports wireless charging.
  2. I'm not especially interested in paying $119.99 for the convenience of charging my iPhone XR and my Apple Watch at the same time. That's a lot of money to pay for convenience.

With that said, Belkin is a respected manufacturer, and the product looks fine to me. Buy it if you want it ... but no, I wouldn't consider it to be a good deal.

For anyone who's curious, here's my solution:

u/KrazyKaleidoscope · 3 pointsr/Nokia

Anker Wireless Charger

That’s the charger I bought. I have gotten 4 more for me to throw around my house. I love it.

u/IForgotMyPasswordGrr · 3 pointsr/kia

They have to be positioned relatively central to the charging coil.

Simply put:

The energy in the charging coil has its polarity changed rapidly back and forth which reflects opposite in the coil inside the device being charged and created a current.

If the charging device isn’t relatively centered on the coil, the flipping polarity of the charging coil won’t reflect in the devices coil.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qi_(standard)

There is a system for a freely placed device on a charging pad to charge properly, or even multiple devices at once, but it’s expensive. It’s what Apple was trying to do with AirPower and they had issues. I wouldn’t expect a fringe feature in a car has that technology.

If you’re interested in wireless chargers, I recommend Anker. They price their stuff right while being reliable and standing behind their stuff.

I have a few of these all over the place. Night stands, desk, living room, at the office.

Anker Powerprt Atom PD 2 . Awesome and reliable

u/jcpb · 3 pointsr/UsbCHardware

I wish I have an answer to this, because even Anker has problems at the 60W+ front. The most helpful review is a 1-star and it said that charger fried the USB-C port on the user's MBP - YIKES. Google's wall chargers only go up to 45W.

For your in-ears: Innergie's MagiCable will adapt any USB-C cable to micro-USB, negating the need to buy a separate USB-C to micro-USB legacy cable. It's technically a device itself though, so the USB-C charger/power bank will become active and start supplying power. It's also limited to about 5V 2A.

For the wall chargers: if Lenovo does anything funny with their laptops, any wall chargers you have will need 60W minimum or they simply won't charge. Apple's MBP will pretty much charge off any USB-C though, just more slowly, and the laptop has to be asleep (lid closed) or off.

Nekteck 65W
Nekteck 60W
RAVPower 60W w/ GaN

Innergie 60C if price is no object

I wouldn't recommend any Apple stock chargers unless it updates their 61W and 87W to do the full USB PD voltage ranges - even if it does, price is a problem on both.

For power banks: ideally they should have two 60W capable USB-C ports, one of them being input+output; and 1-2 USB-A ports for everything else. That's pretty hard to find and they certainly won't come cheap. If you limit that to one USB-C, that might be a bit easier to find.

mophie's 3XL can only do 45W, that might not work for the Yoga
Goal Zero has it all, but it's large, heavy, and very expensive; lesser version with one 60W USB-C and no AC inverter

u/ofthepines · 3 pointsr/onebag
u/Rashkh · 3 pointsr/Surface

Per this post you should be able to hit the minimum spec but I expect that it's going to give you a very slow charge. What you'd ideally want is a power deliver (PD) capable charger with a high wattage. As an example, I use this one and it works great.

Edit: Actually, the charger you linked might work. I didn't notice the 40W max output but that should be enough. Not sure if it's got a PD port though.

For 150$, you could get a 100W solar panel which will generate 50 times as much energy as this device. And you can feed the energy of a regular solar panel back into the grid, while this device will just waste the energy when it is not being used.

Solar chargers are just a waste of money. The only reason to get one is when you want to charge your phone when there is no grid power available. And in that case you want something portable which this device is not. There are much cheaper options available which do the exactly the same thing.

But it looks kind of nice, I guess.

From a purely sound standpoint I would avoid putting speakers inside of those shelves and go with stands next to it. A 10 foot spread isnt too bad depending on how far away the listening position is, which looks to be around 8-10 feet or so? Ideally you dont want them much further apart then you are away from them but it also heavily depends on what speakers you choose. Some image so well and so wide its irrelevant (to a point of course) how far apart they are. You can also just "toe" them in until they sound correct. I think either of these options will be better than putting them inside a bookshelf.

If this is intended a mostly a home theater setup these would be my speakers of choice

My suggestion is to get a external battery (someting like this) that can output 2A, and use things like the biolite, solar, powerpot, etc to keep the battery charge maxed out. Than use the battery to charge whatever devices you need.

The part he plugged into the CFX is something like this.

Then you have to get a charging pad, sorta like this.

This is actually pretty awesome on the CFX because the micro USB is one of two charging options, so it doesn't entirely make the device wireless charging only.

>How much space will be usable?

About 25GB on the internal SDcard partition. Get a 32GB external SDcard at the very least. I picked up a 64GB Samsung microSDXC Pro card for $30 a few weeks ago on Amazon, and they regularly go on sale (especially the slightly slower Evo models).

>Is the performance to die for?

Not horrible for a phone that's one year old, unlike the Galaxy Nexus which was terrible after only a year. Signal reception isn't as good as Motorola devices.

>Can it be rooted and/or achieve s-off?

If it ships with 4.4.4 or lower, yes, with SunShine ($25). Once you S-OFF, it behaves very much like a Nexus device: S-OFF (+bootloader unlock) -> flash custom recovery -> flash SuperSU. If 5.0.1, not yet (with SunShine; works with Java Card). And no, you can't unlock the bootloader with HTCdev (blame Verizon).

>Any limitations/annoyances I should know about?

  • Verizon bloatware. Lots and lots of Verizon bloatware. Either unlock the bootloader and rip out the junk (after unlocking and updating to 5.0.1), or use a third-party launcher and hide the bloat.

  • HTC USB cable is very short. I bought a longer Amazon-branded cable for $5.

  • Device still ships with old non-Quick Charge 2.0 charger. Add another ~$20 for a QC 2.0 charger.

  • HTC Sync Manager is somehow worse than iTunes
u/TimTebowMLB · 3 pointsr/apple

Its not meant for using your phone and charging though. You can still use a standard wired charger if you want. For me I use it every day. I have an angled 3 coil pad from spigen on my bedside table. The wire for the pad is going up the back of the table and can't be seen and the pad is right up against the wall. I put it on the pad overnight to fully charge(regular, not quick charge) and most days I don't need to charge my phone again until it's bedtime again.

However, my iPhone for work I plug in every night and the wire just ends up sitting on the floor because there isn't really anywhere good for it to go. The cord gets wear and tear on it and so does the charging port.

I also just got in my friends truck yesterday and it has a spot for keys , wallet phone etc and it has a wireless Qi pad in it so when I put my phone down in this area it started charging while we were driving!

It might not be for everyone but I think it's a fantastic technology and people just need to keep an open mind. For example, Ikea is building it into their furniture now. Imagine sitting down in your livingroom and tossing your phone on the corner of your coffee table and it starts charging..... No plugging in, grab it and use it then set it back down but, super convenient.

there are a lot of solar chargers at REI, although they carry a hefty price tag. I recently bought this or this (I can't remember which one, but I'm sure they are identical) but have yet to field test it. Both are well reviewed and both are a faction of the price of other chargers. Weight wise I was suprised, it weighs almost nothing. On the downside it doesn't really have any way to latch it onto my pack, which is what I would see myself doing, charging up the device's internal battery as I walked. I plan on putting it in a ziplock and punching a hole in it, attaching it to the top of my pack with a carabiner.

yes indeed. they make these in a bunch of different sizes, I have a small one (iphone sized) that will charge 2000mah after a full day of sun, and a bigger one that does about double that.

I tend to go deep country hiking, sometimes alone, for up to weeks at a time, so just carrying extra batteries would get too heavy for my pack. these recharge every day and don't weigh too much.

u/wag3slav3 · 2 pointsr/Nexus5

To me it was worth the extra money for the magnets in the OEM charger, works great for my Nexus 5 and 7. Getting the coil lined up was a bit of a pain on the cheap ones. Plus the magnets are strong enough you can superglue the stock one to a post and use it as a car dock for the 5!

There is also another one that a little more expensive that moves the coil to the perfect place for best charging.

I'd say try out the cheap ones, they'll charge fine, but if you get tired of picking up the phone in the middle of the night or want a car dock take another look at the OEM dock or the QE-TM101. It might be worth your money for a location or two in your day.

I've tried a couple Qi chargers, but, in my opinion, Qi is not robust enough to be actually convenient unless you buy a charger that actively finds your phone and moves the charger into place itself. To use a subwoofer properly, you'll need a crossover (a device that ensures that the sub sees only the bass, and that the KRKs doesn't try to play the same bass.

> Could you also recommend a Subwoofer under $300?

If that's all you have to spend, wait until you can afford a bit more. $300 isn't going to get you any decent form of sub. Here is something at $400 that should get the job done - Disclaimer: I don't have personal experience with this sub, but SVS is a well-known and well-liked brand, and this isn't their cheapest offering, it's just discounted - I believe it normally sells for $679. Here is a review.

It has a crossover built in, so no extra devices required - you'd be connecting your U-Phoria to the subwoofer using 1/4" TS to RCA cable, and RCA cable from the subwoofers High Pass output to the Rokit's RCA inputs.

I use this one I bought it at around $40. I suggest sticking too RAVPower, ANKER, and Lumsing battery packs though. From what I have read up on they are the more reliable ones. And at least 7000 mAh supply.

EDIT: Didn't tell you what it's like. The pack itself is't too big. Comparable in size to lugging around a second N5. I am for the most part at work or at home where I have wall access so it stays in my laptop bag for most of the time. It is great when I am out and need it though. Much worth the $25 dollars it's at now.

EDIT 2: I'm an idiot, changed some grammar stuff.

u/Richardcj · 2 pointsr/raspberry_pi

would recommend ravpower over this. Bought it on sale last year for $30 but still at $1 more then this woot sale it's worth it.

Really saved me on some international trips where I was on the move a lot. Especially in Africa when I was camping instead of having a normal room with outlet each night. Charged my camera, cell phone, kindle, etc. Extremely helpful.

Pro: easy and worry free.
Con: not as fast as a good adapter.

You probably just use it heavily throughout the day. Any chance you work a desk job? I recommend a wireless charger for it, if you do. I use this one, and it's great!

u/MisterJimJim · 2 pointsr/DIY

I have an S6 and never had the S5 so I don't know how long it would take to charge an S5 wirelessly. The S5 has a bigger battery so I'm assuming it will take longer than mine. I haven't really timed my charger, but I would estimate that it would take 1.5-2 hours to charge to full. I use it at night, so it's not really an issue. It'll probably charge your phone at the same rate as if you were to use a 1A usb charger.

This is the kind that you would want to get: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-EP-PG920IBUGUS-Wireless-Charging-Charger/dp/B00UCZGS6S/ref=sr_1_4?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1451801626&sr=1-4&keywords=samsung+wireless+charger

This one is newer and will charge the Note 5 and S6 edge+ faster, but it does work for every Qi enabled phone at the regular rate: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Fast-Charge-Wireless-Charging/dp/B012AWBN9C/ref=sr_1_7?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1451801626&sr=1-7&keywords=samsung+wireless+charger

The wireless charger is really used for the convenience and not the speed. I had this charger before I got the Samsung one. The Samsung one is a lot better in my opinion because it has a light that tells you the state of the charge (full/charging). The Samsung one also has a larger charging area so you don't have to set it down exactly perfect for it to charge. The other one has a smaller charging surface so you have to set it exactly in the middle or it won't charge.

u/tracer2ft · 2 pointsr/moto360

If you need another charger you get get this,

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NWMI07S/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_HjVFwbYH47H37

It's 15$ and works perfectly as a back up

u/oracleofmist · 2 pointsr/galaxynote5

Spigen also makes great cases, although I'm unsure as to their more heavy duty ones interfering with wireless charging. From what I understand, the Samsung wireless charges are spotty, but there is an offbrand one that is supposed to be more reliable

link

u/gelatinguy · 2 pointsr/Disney_Infinity

That was probably me, and yeah, it works. However, some brands work and some don't. I don't know if it's because some need to recognize the NFC tag of a phone first, but just know they don't all work. I can only recommend the exact items that work, just to save anyone from disappointment.

e.g. this Yootech charger works: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NWMI07S

It's not the best looking one for display though, so I'm looking for a slightly smaller, rounder one, but I bought some round ones that ended up not lighting up the figures. Still looking.

u/Blobwad · 2 pointsr/galaxynote5

I have the Samsung wireless charger as well as this much cheaper one. The cheap one is much more reliable than the Samsung which seems really picky about placement (and will work for a little while then just stop).

I don't know about charging speed, but they both charge relatively quickly. I'm more of a keep-it-full than a rapid charge from 5% kinda guy.

As for screen protectors, they're not necessary for everyone. I haven't used a screen protector in years. My Galaxy S4 screen is still flawless after years of use and my Note 5 is flawless after ~4 months. Don't drop it, keep it out of your keys pocket, and don't throw it in a bag with sand - you will be flawless forever.

IMO if you drop frequently you're better off buying a case made to handle it than wasting money on a screen protector. Just because a tempered glass screen protector breaks doesn't mean it saved your phone - it broke because it's tempered glass not gorilla glass. Your phone's glass is much stronger than the cheap little protector.

u/HSTFU · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS6

don't get the one off Amazon sold by samsung! There's mixed reviews and it didn't work for me. So I bought this one after a friend recommended for me and it works great

Like someone else said, my s6 came with one too. I lost it so I had to get another one.

u/scotchlover · 2 pointsr/MotoX

Keep in mind considering the device is a "24 Hour mixed use" battery, that means somewhere around the 33% mark will be 8 hours.

Charging percentages also will depend on the temp of the device, it won't charge too fast if the device gets hot.

Not sure which one you got, but I use the Tenergy Wall Charger and it charges as per expectations.

u/Aetern1ty · 2 pointsr/htcone

I have this one and it works as advertised.

u/ggfools · 2 pointsr/nexus6

either will work just fine, in fact you can get any charger that is qualcomm quickcharge 2.0 certified and it will work (and charge fast)

I personally have this one and it works very well http://www.amazon.com/Tenergy-3308454-Universal-Adaptive-Technology/dp/B00OVD3FEU/

u/ToughActinInaction · 2 pointsr/galaxynote4

You should get a warranty replacement on that charger.

Note 4 uses proprietary fast-charging tech called "Adaptive Fast Charging". Check the charger that came with your phone, it should have that written on it. Samsung has been out of stock on these since I got my phone in October. I wanted to use my discount code that came with my phone to get a spare to keep at the office but there hasn't been any for sale for almost 2 months now. It'd be a bummer to not even have the one that came with my phone to use. It charges my phone much faster than any other charger I've tried. I'd say about 4x as fast.

The Note 4 also supports any Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0, well at least the Snapdragon version does. I'm not sure if the Exynos would, since it doesn't have a Qualcomm chipset. But if you have the Snapdragon variant, you can try this charger (I haven't used it, just found it on Amazon): http://amzn.com/B00OVD3FEU

u/brwtx · 2 pointsr/nexus6

My current N6 still rocks and everyone looks at the charger on my desk with envy. So, I'm happy to wait another year for the next big Nexus with wireless charging.

u/cajunflavoredbob · 2 pointsr/HTC10

It is going to heat up a bit while charging with any version of QC. QC raises the voltage with the amperage to let your phone charge faster. Whether it uses 5, 9, or 12 volts is determined by your phone's specs and what the charger can output.

It doesn't get too hot to pick it up. It gets noticeably warm with internal temperatures reaching around 32-35C or so. Idle temperature, for comparison, is around 28C. When you pick it up, it will feel kind of warm, but not hot. Your phone can take much higher temperatures than what it experiences during charging, so you're not causing any damage.

I have personally used all of the following Benson approved USB type-C items.

u/FullyBaked · 2 pointsr/Nexus6P

> Do you use the things that differentiate the 2x from the regular NC2 or do you just use e.g. Galileo for organs and could just as well have the cheaper NC2?

I do tweak the sliders for synth filter and envelopes, organ stops, and MIDI control. I certainly wouldn’t be twiddling the iPhone for changing dynamics mid-song, but I guess a $200 markup is a lot if a program change can get you by. I think the synths and organs on the NC2 are samples instead of emulations so they wouldn't be aa tweakable.

> What's your setup? Does it use QuickCharge or USB PD to get more power or do you manage with just a regular powerbank?

So the only real difference in power banks is Size and USB type.

USB type A packs can be really large for cheap. I have this one and it can play zelda for 10 hours straight, but takes ~14 hours to recharge.

USB type C packs are about double the price, but can charge the switch slightly faster while playing, much faster when its off. and recharge much faster as well.

u/GorillaX · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS8

I got a Nintendo Switch a few weeks ago and I just realized that if I buy a high capacity portable charger, I can use it for that and my new S8+. I'm stoked about it, picked up this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IVMXW7G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Yav9ybW2EK40M

u/bogus83 · 2 pointsr/AppalachianTrail

I just ordered this (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IVMXW7G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), haven't received it yet. There was a "flash sale" where it was about 20% less than the current price so it seemed too good to pass up. They sell the same thing without the charger for ~$10 less, but you're going to want a quick charger. I haven't seen many (any?) other batteries at that capacity with qc3 input, but there are a few 10k ones on Amazon.

As for the N6... it's water resistant (the internal components have "nano coating", whatever that means) and I'm not planning to use it directly over bodies of water. Other than that I'm just going to be careful and probably put it in a ziplock bag if the weather gets crazy. I'm more concerned about dropping it on a rock, and there's not much that can be done about that short of using a tether.

u/pleasehelpmypony · 2 pointsr/Moto_Z

My ravpower bank activates the turbocharge notification when I use usb-c to usb-c. I have not tested the charging time but it appears to be as quick as wall charging for me.

It'll be slow.
I've got this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IVMXW7G

I charge over usb-c but the C302CA doesn't support QC3.0 so it's probably just charging at 5A/2V = 10W. The original charger charges the laptop at 45W.

I don't think a battery pack that can charge at that rate exists yet.

I don't use a case, but if you are one that does, there is a whole host of USB-C to Qi charging adapters you can buy. They are basically an induction charging coil sticker connected to a length of hard plastic ribbon cable with a 90 degree USB-C connector. You basically plug it in and fold the ribbon cable flat on the back of your phone with the coil sticker stuck to the back of the phone under your phone case. Not the best solution since it blocks your USB-C port, but if you really want wireless charging, there are ways. I am at work but will post a link from Amazon I have saved of one of the products when I get a chance.

Haha,

Well I can tell you I just spent fucking like 5 hours researching wireless chargers cuz I got an iphone 8. And that is why I posted that product.

I can't use a lot of them because I have a pop socket. On top of that I want to get a wallet case. Well does the wireless charger demagnetize the credit cards? Supposedly not. But will my magnet mount in my car? Probably.

So now I have a magnet mount, iphone wallet case, pop socket, wireless charger clusterfuck I can't figure out. And then I came across this specific wireless charger which has a nice big base compared to the others. And it has good reviews! Nope! Fake...fuck. Thus, I vented my frustration to reddit and lead to this thread.

---

Well, if you are curious I'm going with this case. I am going to attach this wallet on the back. I am going to stick my pop socket on the wallet part (probably super glue both of them). I am going to attach this pop socket mount to the magnet mount to prevent damaging the credit cards. And I'm going to pray this wireless charger works with all this shit.

And now, typing this all out, I'm wondering if the pop socket will wear out the wallet. Might be better to just get the wallet case after all...

Interesting, because I spend an hour in the car in the morning and another in the afternoon, my phone is usually charged to 100% when I get home. I've always left my phone unplugged at night going back to my Nexus One and even before that although with removable batteries, it wasn't so much of an issue. When I wake up now, I'm at at least 60%. 100% in the car on USB-C PD rapid charger by the time I get to my client that day. That USB-C charger will also charge my MacBook Pro if needed although slowly, when suspended. It will slow the drain in the MBP if I'm using it.

Has anyone been able to get this adaptor (or the cable) to charge at greater than 30W with the surface pro 6 i5? I've been testing the adaptor with a Satechi usbc multimeter, and it never draws more than 15V@2A, while the official power brick that comes with the the system draws roughly 36W (rated at 44W).

I'm using a Anker 60W charger with USB-C PD support (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BQJWDRM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), according to the specs on the bottom of the charger, it supports 5V@3A, 9V@3A, 15V@3A, and 20V@3A, I was hoping to get 15W@3A out of it. Or do I need a brick that supports 12V@3A

Not complaining too much though, it does charge the device no problem, but is much slower when the device is under any heavy load.

Title: [USA-MO] [H] iPhone XR Yellow 64GB AT&T [W] PayPal or local

Username: /u/cosmic_nut

Body:

I have an iPhone XR Yellow 64 GB that is currently locked under AT&T due to the grace period after paying it off, it can be unlocked next thursday, Oct. 17th. This phone does have a crack on the back. Original boxing, new earpods, used charger, Anker wireless charger, and three Spigen cases; Liquid Air, Thin Fit, and Ultra Hybrid will all come with the phone. Battery health is at 98%. Bought this phone when it was released last year, however its too big for my liking so I downsized to the 11 Pro. Looking to get $325 shipped for everything or $300 picked up local at 63103.

Using a power strip won't impact charge speed.

Why not check out the Atom PD2? It has two PD2 ports and will push 30W to each when both are in use.

How many devices do you plan to charge?

u/joshuadwx · 2 pointsr/anker

For your case, PowerPort Atom PD 2 is the best choice because both the Switch and iPhone use Power Delivery and wouldn’t benefit at all from Qualcomm Quick Charge.

Hope this helps and please let me know if you have any further questions!

There is this Anker 60w dual USB-c wall charger. I haven't purchased it yet but it gives close to the same charge as the apple MacBook chargers. It's about $25 more expensive but I would say it's worth it.

-Anker 5W for $19.99

-RAVPower Max 10W $14.99

-Anker 5/7.5/10W (depending on your device, so 10W for the Pixel 3/XL) $29.99

You have to look for the output. Here's an example of how to get the 5-10W or even more calculated very easily.

If it says "Output 5V / 1A", then basically do this: 5 * 1 = 5W. (multiply the Volts with Amps and you get Watts)

There you go, that's how you calculate the actual output a particular wireless charger can actually charge your device.

PS: I've used Anker in the past and it's one of the best quality for the price. It's not to say others aren't great, but their cables, fast car charger and other accessories helped me out a lot - while being on a budget and demanding high quality.

I have a basic Samsung pad one, probably two or three years old now, but still works fine and Anker makes really good ones too! I've got this one from Anker. I'm also considering upgrading my work desk one to this one because it'd be easier to look at the phone. If you're in the US, Anker should easily be available on Amazon too. Other brands that are good are Belkin and Aukey :)

Selling an Anker wireless charger. See Amazon listing here: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B0753Z4PGC/

Works great, but we have to take our cases off to be able to use the wireless charger due to the magnets in our phone cases (for car mounts). Too much trouble to take the case off every time.

I've been on the same hunt myself and have been surprised that there are so few good options if you want to maximize rapid charging capabilities. For rapid charging, the charger needs to support Power Delivery (PD). Very few do, especially on Amazon. Even among the ones that do, some are sketchy and don't conform to the standards (risk damage to your phone). If you want to do it right, search out one that is USB-IF certified. The one you mentioned by Nekteck is (one of very few). I would recommend it, or this version with detachable cable:

The way it charges is odd. There's no reliable way to see the actual wattage/amp via apps like ampere, because something involving the screen being on.

And apparently the way pixel 2s charge, they sort of "ramp up" slower at first, then faster or something.

I did alot od research for a proper car charger that supports this new "power delivery" standard via type C.

>... avoid any amazon chargers cause even if they say oem they’re all garbage, I’m sure those were the problem and try to get one from Microsoft.

I highly disagree with this statement. Microsoft OEM chargers are well-known to be overpriced and unreliable, with a high constant failure rate. Even the Surface rep at Best Buy said they change the demo adapters out every 3-4 months because they fail.

I have posted elsewhere, but the best combination I have found for the modern Surface units is to buy a high quality USB-C to Surface cable (i.e. J-Go-Tech), and pair it with a high quality, over-rated (meaning higher watt than needed) USB-C charger (I chose this 60w charger by Anker) . This combo has served me for a very, very long time and both were bought from Amazon (Ironically for slightly less than a new OEM adapter). This also means that should the charger fail or become damaged, you simply need another universal charger. If/When MS ditches the surface connector for USB-C, you're good to go there as well (and the dwindling supply of proprietary chargers won't be an issue for longevity as the cable, with proper care, will certainly outlast the charger!)

Also remember to keep your surface connector clean and the connection points free of any metal bits that may have attached themselves via magnetic attraction BEFORE powering on or plugging in. If your connector and Surface device tend to stay in one place this is less of an issue, but if they travel.. check first. The easiest way to blow out any charger is to short out the points.

The Anker Powerwave Stand does work, assuming you don't have a case on your phone. Unfortunately, I have the Tudia case on my RP2 which added just enough additional bulk to raise the phone out of range for the coil to work consistently when the phone was upright. At best, I'd have to keep the phone in landscape and center the stand behind the bottom half of the phone (which usually meant propping up the top half of the phone with someone so it sat leveled on the stand).

I decided to scrap the stand and get a few Anker Powerwave Pads at home and keep an Anker Powerwave 7.5 Pad at work (to charge rapidly). While the placement still requires centering the pad on the bottom half of the phone, the pads all work great... and I can still use my Tudia case!

I've heard that about the Etons too, but can't verify.
I had a great crank charger that was built by a former coworker, but it has been lost. The crank recharged three AAA batteries, which in turn were connected to a USB port that charged any USB-chargeable phone I tried, including an iphone 3GS and a 4G.

Charging phones from an already charged battery of some sort seems to be the most flexible system, and more apt to work with a given phone than a straight hand crank. I loved that I had three charged AAA batteries on tap in case I needed to swap batteries in my headlamp.

I'm thinking of picking up a solar charging battery that can also be charged via USB and a small handcrank to top it up.

>Incorporate the delayed Project Silver

Delayed like the Nexus Q updates? I heard it was canceled and there wasn't ever really and official information release about it.

> Google could write the contract in a specific way to allow them to supply Ara phones and accessories through the "Android Silver" line.

Did we really know enough about Android Silver to be making these kind of assumptions about how they will use the "skeleton" of silver to market and sell Ara? And what leverage does Google have over the carrier stores? You do realize that Google early does business with the carriers, just the OEMs, and even that relationship isn't the best.

> But slowly, with the introduction of more competition

I think you can't compare the early smartphone market with a platform launching today. It is a very different landscape and competition doesn't really work that way. Back then everything was new and growing, but if Ara launches tomorrow without a variety of different modules, then it is essentially useless as a device, all drawbacks and now advantages. How can it grow if it can't stand on its own two legs on day 1?

>and innovation should sky rocket past pre-existing phones.

That is asking a lot. Unless you have top people at all the OEMs on board, how will this work? Something has to attract them too the project, and I don't think the profit margins will. See most phones in the US (where this will launch) are sold TO AT&T and Verizon. They buy million as millions of phones and then resell them. There is very little actual direct sales because the OEMs doesn't have those sales channels set up. So unless AT&T or Verizon or T-Mobile get on board with this full steam and purchase the modules, I don't see the OEMs being on board. Selling one device to one customer is easier than selling your 1 device split into 10+ different SKUs to 1 million customers.

>it will be more expensive at first then their competitors

I don't see how it will gain traction though, especially in the 3rd world, which is brought up a lot in these conversations. The Smartphone had to gain traction in the wealthy countries before it could become a commodity and then be available worldwide.

>But there will definitely be options and variety available day 1.

I don't think anyone can say "definitely" with any certainty at this stage in the game.

> Big companies like Toshiba, Foxconn (iPhone producers), Linaro, and Rockchip are developing exclusively for Project Ara

Toshiba isn't a big player in the phone market at all, they made a few phones once and some tablets, but nothing was impressive. Foxconn doesn't design anything of note, but they produce almost everything sold today. Without them, there wouldn't even be a shred of hope. Essentially not a single major smartphone OEM is on that list.

>You don't see the benefit of a sharable phone?

Why can't you share current phones?

>A phone that can be split apart and be in two places at once.

You have to buy the modules for two phones at this point though, don't you? How is that different from buying two cheaper phones?

>A phone that can connect with the internet without a cell tower/carrier

Is this unique to Ara?

>without other government censorship

Google gives data to the NSA, and they bend to EU laws about censoring their own results in search. I don't see how Google frees people from the government.

> without even electricity (solar charger module + Google sailboats).

There are solar chargers right now on amazon for cell phone that cost $20. Why do I need to waste a module on one?

>when Google built a 10 story building to service China, that's when they stopped carrying about the US only.

Google doesn't even have Google search in China right now. Youtube is blocked. There is no google presence in China.

>Android One is going cost much more than a wifi only, non-touchscreen Ara phone (costing ~$50).

Wifi is less prevalent than cell towers right now. And I don't think you know any hard truths about pricing right now.

>Yet*

That is a cop out, man. People said the same thing about Google Glass. "Glass can potentially do everything.... once the developers just develop for it!" And Twitter just backed out of developing for Glass. If twitter isn't supporting your platform, it probably won't end up being a thing.

>How else are these phones going to reach the 5 billion people they've stated Ara phones are going to be able to reach?

If and when Google launches that project, it won't hinge on the success of Ara to be successful. Are and that project are not connected. If you know anything about how Google works, you know that their teams all work independently (to a fault). Shoot the Chrome team put out a sub par borrower on the android platform for years.

> Play-like Store for hardware.

Dude, look at the Nexus Launches, any of them. Mostly they have been disastrous. They aren't good at launching hardware or making hardware popular. a single retail space in NYC or a floating boat don't matter because most customers won't interact with them. Shoot their phone support is horrible. Ask anyone trying to RMA a Google Glass they paid $1500 for. Their support is shit.

>They're either preparing to become a mobile carrier or simply compete with Apple Stores.

Those are wildly different things, you get that right? And Microsoft has been trying to compete with Apple stores, same with Sony and Samsung. How are they doing? Google isn't a hardware style company.

One thing Google lacks is focus. It seems to me that they, and people typing on forums are dreaming big about what they think Ara could do. But I don't see the path making sense. It is a if only device for Africans for their own fleet of satellites, no it is a medical tool, no it is a cool cell phone that you can swap out and have all the latest modules! It is a swiss army knife phone, but I just can't see the market supporting it. There are too many hurtles and Google will get bored before it becomes reality. Toshiba, Foxconn and MIT can't make it a thing. Consumers int he US have to want to buy it first. Google can't seem to make that happen with their own Nexus devices, Why would it happen for the modular smartphone? Something that tis arguably way more technically complicated.

I just don't see it. I think Google has the tech to make it, but they don't have the marketing to make it successful. They are half the brain needed to make it work.

I had two fully charged batteries (battery backpack) each are rated to 2-2.5 hrs when in video mode. However in time lapse mode they last much longer, I'm guessing because it's not a constant charged CCD.

Our trip was 6+ hours and I set an interval of 5 seconds and it lasted the whole trip with 1/3 battery life to spare.

And while I haven't tested it, I do believe you can run any 5 volt power into the USB and let it run forever. Trick is you need a skeleton case to access the USB port. Then any 12v to 5v USB car phone charger should do the trick. I also have one of these and these which come in handy anywhere.

edit: time was off. Also a fat SD card is your other limitation. File size on 11 MP mode is 5-6MB, so 32 GB card is roughly 5,333 Photos times 5 seconds is 26,666 seconds or 444 minutes or 7.4 Hrs. Roughly.

If you are worried about the 'sweet spot' then one like mine might be in order:

http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-QE-TM101-K-Black-Wireless-Charger/dp/B0051R4ECM

Not easy to find any more, and only ever sold in Japan originally, but it moves the charging coil to the phone, so you just slap it down and walk away.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiofGwT6LWw

u/randomee · 1 pointr/LGG3

The G3 is quite picky with wireless chargers or chargers in general for that matter.

I have 2 of the Panasonic QE-TM101 Charge Pads.
http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-QE-TM101-K-Black-Wireless-Charger/dp/B0051R4ECM

They have always worked well for all previous Qi enabled phones (Nexus 5, Note 2, etc.). However the G3 will always complain "slow charging" regardless of how I position it on the Charge Pad, with or without a case. See image here (not mine: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7501/16237781855_1dde777699_z.jpg)

It does charge in time though, just annoyed by the message which also comes with some beeps. G3 Tweaksbox has an option to disable the Slow Charging message but that didn't work for me.

So I bought the WCD-100. And it works really well. It charges fast and without any errors. BUT only if I use the original travel charger that came with the G3, which seems to be rated at 5V 1.8A for its output. If I were to use even a more powerful charger like a Samsung 2A one that I am using now, it will still show the slow charging message sometimes. Very annoying. It does work still though.

TL;DR: Get the WCD100 and use it with the original travel charger that came with your G3 for the best experience.

Expensive and instructions are in Japanese, but it is the best charger I've used. You can place your phone anywhere on the matt and in any orientation and it will find the "sweet spot" and charge. It is the first truly drop and go wireless charger I've used!

Also charges through my ringke fusion case.

I had the Choe Stadium and even with its 3 coils I still had to fiddle with the phone placement to find the "sweet spot". It also died on me after a week and a half.

IF $200 is your hard fixed budget then BIC and Dayton are your best choices.

If you can scare up another $200 then this is the best you can do for the money:

You didn't really spec much, but if you want "best play" and "20hz min response", then try to get one of these SVS SB12-NSDs. Pretty much nothing except possibly DIY can touch it for less money.

If you want to spend less, there is the BIC PLII-200, the BIC F12, the Dayton Audio SUB-800, SUB-1000, and SUB-1200. But the SVS has highpassed outputs.

those Arenas should give you plenty loud, I can make my Martin Logan bookshelf speakers fill the house.
https://www.amazon.com/BIC-America-F12-475-Watt-Subwoofer/dp/B0015A8Y5M this sub goes deeper (with good volume) than any in its price range and many people speak highly of it. I don't know much about the 2 subs you are looking at but most subs like these have a significant fall off in volume at lower frequencies and anything under 10" is gonna feel pretty weak out side of a limited sweet spot.

I just got this https://www.amazon.com/SVS-SB12-NSD-400-watt-Controlled-Subwoofer/dp/B009F8Y7SO and couldn't be happier, it used to sell for around $600 but new versions have come out. The BIC I linked or any ported unit from SVS and HSU will typically give more volume than the sealed sub I chose which would be to your liking. The SVS and HSU are kind of considered entry level "enthusiast" subs and they are better than the BIC, but if you like house pounding sound The BIC will get you there.

u/Darksol503 · 1 pointr/hometheater

Well, you've got me something serious to think about! I'm not opposed to spending twice as much for a clear and definitive improvement on both music and movie bass reproduction and both seem incredibly adequate and leagues beyond the f12, SUB1500, and others I settled on choosing from their respective specs alone.

I guess now I'm in a new conundrum... between the HSU and RSL sub, which should I pick now?! Guess it's off to more reading and vetting ;) thank you for the recommends!

The RSL seems to be more plug and play, with less fuss and ready to go out the box functionality.

The HSU has an insane amount of configurations (sealed, ported, hybrid, Q-control, etc...) but could lead to more headache and less than optimal set up (by user error alone lol).

Edit: Lastly, this SVS also cropped up during my review reading. Crap now I'm back to battling it out between three subs!

if you can spend $1,000 i would recommend going with a 2.1 to start, getting a good receiver (the onkyo you list should be more than enough to last a long time) and a good sub, then lower price speakers like the pioneers you were looking at.

$337 nr555 receiver https://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-TX-NR555-7-2-Channel-Network-Receiver/dp/B01CZW7H4M
$260 2 pioneer towers https://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-SP-FS52-Designed-standing-Loudspeaker/dp/B008NCD2S4/ref=pd_cp_23_4
$399 svs 12" sub https://www.amazon.com/SVS-SB12-NSD-400-watt-Controlled-Subwoofer/dp/B009F8Y7SO/ref=pd_sbs_23_1?

thats $996 and would do great for music, games and even movies. the pioneers can be found for much less pretty often too, i saw them at nebraska furn mart earlier this week for $70 each. even cheaper than ive bought on amazon... and ive bought 4 pairs of them now. from $80 to their regular $129 price. they are just great, and would be perfect for a starting setup. especially with a good svs sub (i have a pb2000 and it is fantastic, though it is about twice as much. would recommend it if you can afford the extra) to pick up the low end and since the pb2000 i have for a nearly identical sized room is massive overkill, the sb12 for $399 would probably do just right. then, you can simply fill in pieces as you want to. get a center channel at some point, then maybe upgrade the fronts to something bigger/better and move those pioneers to rears and boom, 5.1 with better speakers all around than starting at 5.1 on a budget.

maybe somebody who has heard the pioneer 5.1 system can chime in though, as i have never heard that sub or the bookshelf version. those could pair up with the onkyo just fine to start too. i like bass though, so i like to spend more on a sub. and i dont care about surround for the most part. id rather more/better bass than surround.

u/snowtx · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

I'd hold off for now and see (listen) how they are to you in your room. For music, they will likely provide low enough bass unless you listen to very low frequency music styles (especially electronic). For action movies you might find them lacking as a sub is needed with almost any budget speaker. Lots of people recommend the BIC F12 sub. Recommend you don't buy the Polk PSW10 sub despite the user reviews - I think it is a one note boom box. If you have $400 to spend on a sub, get this SVS (don't have one but supposed to be great and great limited time deal) https://www.amazon.com/SVS-SB12-NSD-400-watt-Controlled-Subwoofer/dp/B009F8Y7SO

u/zim2411 · 1 pointr/audiophile

Ok. Personally I'd go with this receiver, and either these Def Tech SM45 speakers (sold individually), or Monitor Bronze 2's and an SVS SB12. You'll need a spool of speaker wire too but that's cheap, and probably some speaker stands. I've heard both the Def Tech SM45's and Monitor Bronze 2's in person and they are on my short list of good cheap speakers. (Which the ELAC B6's, a popular recommendation, are absolutely not on. Very disappointed when I heard those in person.)

Otherwise, prolly hardware failure, in which case Apple will tell you to backup your stuff, reset the phone, update OS and all that fun stuff, and maybe just give you a new phone.

In any case, there is a good deal on a wireless charger today. Not that it’ll fix your problem, but just something in the meantime.

The Priv has a massive battery. Anker makes some great quick chargers that really make a difference. I'd recommend one at work and maybe a portable quick charger if your messenger bag/purse/backpack/whatever you carry. The Priv also supports wireless charging, so if you want a wireless charger on your desk that's an option, just make sure you put a hefty charger behind the wireless pad. I use a dock instead of wireless. Seems more functional to me.

As a side note, I kitted my portable charger out with 2x USB-micro B cables, a Lightning cable, and a micro-B to C adapter. Got sick of iPhone people always being dead and me saying I've got power if you've got a wire. Got the C adapter just to be inclusive. Haven't needed it yet.

I'm gonna try out this method, but I don't like those X holders. I think I'm gonna try this spring loaded one from RAM Mounts. Grabs it on all 4 sides, and seems to have enough space underneath to glue in the Qi Charger.

This holder, plus this pivot which will mount into my dash, this Qi charger, and this wiring.

Overall, much cheaper (and grips the phone better) than the solution I was going to use.

Edit: I think I'll use the ram mount wiring instead, it comes with an inline fuse.

I used this adapter with this pad for at my desk and this pad for at my bed-side. The adapter comes with adhesive that you pull a piece of plastic off of and it sticks to your battery but I didn't pull that off as I like to swap batteries. I've had no problems with it staying in place without using the adhesive.

Make sure you are using at least 2 amp plug adapters as the size of the field and the amount of current the field can push are greatly reduced with smaller output wall plugs.

Oh also, if you register your device on the samsung site, you get a 50% off coupon, so I bought an extra battery with charger from the site for like 25 bucks. It has CHANGED MY LIFE. No anchoring to the charger ever. Highly recommend.

Here's a list of chargers that I have bought and used from Amazon that work with the fast charging.

Car Charger 1

Car Charger 2 This model isn't available, but they have more updated versions out there that I'd have no doubt work great.

Wall Charger 1

Wall Charger 2

Wall Charger 3 It's no longer available, but I still have it and it works great to this day.

As you can tell, I like to have plenty of chargers around, and most of them are connected to the wireless fast charge pads. The only problems I ever had were cable related and how I found out that not all cables are built the same to handle the fast charge.

I don't have a car one, but I use this charger:

The wireless charging works great. Some of the pads I used in the past you have to position just right for it to work. However with this one I am using now, I just set it on there and it works. The phone does get pretty hot, but it charges fine. Keep in mind that it is slower than charging via cable.

You do need to use a 2A charger brick with it though. It needs that extra power.

Very happy with my Note 8. Got the Unlocked from Samsung directly:

Galaxy Note8 64GB (Unlocked)

Added 256GB SD card and this case:

Ztotop Armor Shield Shockproof Rugged Protective Case with Kickstand for Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017) - Black / Black

Been using this wireless charger at home:

Spigen Essential F300W Qi Wireless Charger Charging Pad with 3 Coils

And these in my vehicles:

iOttie Easy One Touch Wireless Qi Standard Car Mount Charger

The case works with both wireless chargers. I've had the phone for a couple of months and never needed to plug it in to charge. Battery has never gone below 40%, but I have no idea if I am above or below the average when it comes to using it. I use it extensively for reading, taking notes, and listening to music (via Bluetooth headphones). I take occasional pictures, which have come out really nice, and a couple of long videos.

Been very happy with the purchase, since I got $400 off the purchase price as a former Note 7 owner (turned in an old Galaxy S5). Because of that, I don't have contract to worry about, and since it's unlocked, I can switch carriers if I want to.

u/igouj · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

Fast wireless charging wasn't an option for my S6, so I bought a couple Spigen F300W wireless chargers from Amazon. My S8+ works just fine with them. One is on my desk, so I just put the phone on it when I'm working. Not much need for "fast" in that use case.

Have the older "standard" Samsung puck style wireless charger beside my bed (was free with the old S6), it works fine with the S8+ as well.

I have a fast charger in my truck that I can plug in to if necessary, as well as the fast wall charger that shipped with the phone in the kitchen drawer if I get in a bind. Happened a lot with the S6, hoping that doesn't happen nearly as often with the S8.

Here's the charger I use, both when I owned an iPhone X and now with an iPhone XS Max. (It's a Spigen wireless charging cradle)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UGIA0WY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have stuck with this one rather than moving to a 7.5 watt, more expensive charger, because I only use it on my nightstand when I sleep. (I don't need a quicker charge overnight, as 8 hours is more than enough to charge even a dead battery to full...) To be honest, I don't need to charge it usually, as I use carplay both going to and coming home from work (30 min each way, cabled connection so I charge while I use carplay) and at the end of the day, my battery is well above 80%. But the Spigen cradle works, and it works well. Because it has a nice slant, I can see notifications while lying in bed, which is a plus. Also, there are three charging zones from top to bottom, so you could miss your aim while placing the phone on the charger, and still charge your phone.

The one slight problem with the charger is the light on the front. it's semi bright, but I was able to overcome that simply by using a black sharpie to dull the light to the point where I can't see it, even in a dark bedroom.

Hope that helps!

You just need a A to C cable for file transfers to a PC, and a C to C cable for charging. You can use pretty much any C to C cable with good reviews, but you need to make sure the A to C cable is compliant. For chargers, some regular chargers may or may not be able to charge the 6P, but slowly. You should get one that can rapid charge at 5V/3A. Here is what I use.

Yes, stock charger. And I compare the speed to my Nexus 7 and Blu 4.5. The G4 charges faster than those, but not as fast as the 6P, so I guess its all relative. I also have this car charger and it charges about the same in the car.

So I guess its not USB-C fast, but it seems faster than other USB-micro devices I use. Could also be that so far I can go 2-3 days without charging it (with moderate use), which is better than any other device I've had yet, so maybe in my mind it seems fast because its not charging from 15%.

u/byronbrewer · 1 pointr/GooglePixel

That was my assumption but thought it was worth asking with all of the confusion over Type-C. I thought I understood what I could and couldn't use until I noticed that the Choetech USB-C charger that worked fine with my Nexus 6p wouldn't charge my Pixel. Now I'm just confused on what should and shouldn't use.

I'm worried that I can't use the [Aukey Type-C car adapter] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018TGGH4E) I used for my Nexus 6p. Worked fine on the 6p but don't want to risk it on the Pixel knowing all the problems out there.

Maybe I'm just overthinking all of this?

I've been using it since release (and it regularly goes on sale for $35) around the nexus 6P launch and it's perfect.

Plus, the anker only outputs max 2.4A per port, but USB C can do 3A, which this bank can do. So it'll charge things a little quicker

Ignore that bit. Anker did a horrible job with their photo showing max per port amps. They clarify it below. It's maxed at 2.4/USB-A, and 3A/USB-C. So get whichever you want

u/MYLESOFMUSIC · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

This is the age old question: is there a battery bank that can charge a Nintendo Switch and iPhone X at the same time? I’ve spent a weeks worth of online research trying to figure out. No luck.

The plan is to buy one battery bank for all my devices and stick it in my tech bag. The Nintendo Switch needs that USB C to USB C Charge, and I plan on picking up an iPhone X during the holidays, which can use a quick charging usb A 3.0 Port. I don’t want to get a battery case for the iPhone X because I want to remain to that sleek new design Apple was going for, and I currently have a pretty bulky phone and want to downsize it (iPhone 6 Plus with Mophie Battery Case). Same thing applies to my Nintendo Switch. Keep it elegant.

Most banks on the market only have one USB C Port (most likely input and output), along with one or two usb 2.0/3.0 ports. So I’ve found some options for around $50 that have a quick charging 3.0 port (which works for the iPhone X, 8, 8 Plus) and a separate USB C port for the Switch, but I’m not sure if I can charge both devices at once. If they can, how well? These three, based off the descriptions and people’s Q&As, supports charging the iPhone and the Switch. But nothing on BOTH. Here are the links:

I don't see why this portable battery couldn't charge the switch. It specifically has a USB-C charging output as well as a USB 12v 1.2amp charging output for qualcom 3.0 supported devices.

Its even advertised to charge USB-C laptops. If it can power a laptop I'd be surprised if it can't charge the Switch.

Oh in that case I'm not sure what to tell you, I haven't used my WIN 1 in a while but from what I remember their was no weirdness when fully charged while playing. I used this Ravpower battery and charger for charging both the WIN1 and the battery and had no problems with either.

u/bmf666 · 1 pointr/GalaxyNote9

I researched a lot of the anker models and surprisingly no, they do not all support quick charge 2.0/3.0. So make sure to verify if you choose one of their models. I ended up going with a Ravpower unit that has QC 3.0 support (which is backwards 2.0 compatible) and supports fast charging of the battery itself (a feature not all battery packs have, and to me a nice to have). It's a 20100 mAh unit, and it's massive, like the size of an old laptop power brick. Bigger than I would like, but I want to make sure on long trips I can charge my phone, tablet, and possibly my Switch. This is what I went with: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IVMXW7G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Another small arguable benefit to that one is it supports USB-C input as well as micro-USB, which I thought might come in handy since most of the time I'll have just a USB-C cable around for the Note9.

u/majikmonkie · 1 pointr/GooglePixel

Exactly what I was thinking. The bump wouldn't be worth the convenience for me, and it may even disconnect easier on me, being even more of an inconvenience. Especially with USB C, where orientation doesn't matter.

It made me actually look into something like this wireless charging add on. If there's gonna be a bump on the bottom, might as well have it add even more convenience/functionality. I'm honestly the most disappointed that the phone doesn't have native wireless charging capability.

u/Small1324 · 1 pointr/razerphone

No, it was that the port got so wide that it couldn't do USB charging anymore. I don't think the screws would come off.

A couple of janks in the wrong directions. The USB-C port wasn't quite well designed to last. I've taken apart my own Alienware laptop and the TB3 port on the back has a pretty beefy metal bar that screws in to prevent the port from moving around. Based on those inferences I think it's just cause I plugged things into it (like my headphones) often enough to the point that it just wouldn't charge.

I have a Volta magnetic disconnect cable now to prevent my mechanical keyboard, which also uses an unprotected USB-C cable, from having its port snapped off if it gets yanked, as has happened in the past (I managed to solder it back on the first time). I'm currently just using an Anker cable but at some point I'll get more magnetic USB heads and I'll be able to protect my phone port as well.

There's also a different solution to the unprotected port problem, which is to get a wireless charging adapter like that one (has a lot of reviews) which is Qi compatible, but I can't be sure of its charge speed, especially when charging up the beefy battery.

I went from a Lumia 950 to an LG V20. It is hardware wise pretty much better than the 950 in most ways.

My Charging Solution:

USB Micro (grumble grumble, upgrade to C already!), USB-C, and Qi.

I have Qi chargers in various fixed places and just set the phone there as i enter and pick it up as I leave. I have one in my car for when i'm driving.

Pixel 2 XL has a C port, but I've replaced it for normal usage with a Qi pad on the back of the phone, which fits nicely inside the case. If I leave it off the charger entirely, I get >2 days. (Grumble Grumble Nexus line has Qi but Pixel line doesn't...)

Various devices on MicroUSB - Headset, speakers, keyboards, nearly every non-computer device that charges. Most of these devices can be pre-charged for weekend travel.

Pebble has a custom cable from USB A, but lasts ~4 days, so I can pre-charge for most weekend travel.

I have a power bank with 2 USB A ports and a USB C port, and Qi on the front face. It can also pass through power from either of it's input ports to any output.

I don't tend to do much computing when I travel, so I'm mostly down to the phone and it's cluster of peripherals. I don't currently have a laptop, but often borrow my dad's for travel, and it has a unique (Lenovo) charger.

For a day: I just take my devices.

For a weekend: I take the Qi battery pack.

For a heavy-usage weekend/longer: Qi battery back, USB C<->C cable, USB C wall charger (so far only travel within US, so that's easy...), USB A<->USB Micro. For longer than a weekend, Pebble cable.

In the future the watch will probably be Qi also, and I could see a lot of devices with sufficient surface area going Qi, and the rest going USB-C. IMHO, the solution to charging cables is to get rid of them all, in favor of ubiquitous wireless power.

Edit: Oh, and Apple is adopting Qi too, so it's going to be a standard on both sides!

u/DiabloConQueso · 1 pointr/raspberry_pi

I've done this. It's not trivial, but it's also not all that difficult, either. I'm going to assume that you want a live view of the device (meaning you'd be able to view where the car currently is located, and track it in near-real-time), not a data logged view (meaning you'd drive around, offload the data later, then view it).

This is going to be a very high-level overview; you will likely require some kind of coding and database experience, along with familiarity with the Google Maps JavaScript API. It would simply be beyond the scope of this sub (and my willingness) to post every line of code and every step of setting things up.

First, the equipment you'll need for the Pi:

  • A working pi, obviously, with OS installed and configured
  • A USB GPS receiver (like this one)
  • A USB 2G/3G/4G dongle (like this one, with associated SIM card (if applicable) and airtime

First, you need to get the Pi communicating on the mobile network with the 2G/3G/4G aircard. You can follow the instructions here, but realize that tutorial references a specific 3G breakout board for the Pi. You're welcome to use that instead of the 3G one I linked above.

Once you have the Pi communicating on the mobile network, you need to get the GPS receiver working. You can follow a tutorial for that here, realizing again that this tutorial references a Pi-specific GPS receiver, but should work with the USB one I linked above.

Once you have those two things, you'll need to set up some kind of server somewhere to receive the data from the Pi (I used a standard LAMP setup: Linux, Apache, mySQL, php). A simple home-based server accessible over the internet, or perhaps an Azure or Google Cloud VM would work. In my solution, I simply did this:

  • On the Pi, write a script that, on a timed interval (30 secs or so, adjust to your liking), requested GPS data from the USB GPS device, parsed it, then sent that info over the 3G network to the server. The server would then take that data, parse it out again, and insert it into a database (mySQL for simplicity).

  • Then, I created a web page on the server that overlaid this GPS data from the mySQL database on top of a Google Map. I wrote it such that it would automatically update the GPS data on the map on a timed interval, so I could load the page and watch the slowest game of reverse-Pac-Man ever, so to speak.

  • Then, I configured the Pi to execute any scripts, GPS daemons, and 3G connectivity processes on boot, so that I could simply power up the Pi headless (using a USB battery pack, like this, for portability) and start tracking immediately.

Like I said, it's a straightforward list of steps to take, but requires some coding and database knowledge in order to completely pull together all the pieces. There might be "plug-and-play" solutions available (I did this back with the original Pi B, so some years ago), but I did it all custom just as a proof-of-concept.

I work closely with telemetrics and GPS tracking as my profession, and honestly, unless you're looking to hone your skills or have a hobby/pet project, there are off-the-shelf solutions that would get you up and running with vehicle/personnel tracking much, much quicker and easier.

Huge and expensive compared to lighter options.

A lot of USB-C chargers are clearly designed for laptops. In my opinion.

I use a small charger for power in case of emergency. Something with A to C charger has been fast enough for me. I usually leave it plugged in and in my pocket and my phone is charged quite a bit the next time I notice.

Anker offers one that seems to be a better deal.

I typically stick with Anker, I have 3-4 of their banks and they're all fantastic.

I have this one, no complaints

u/JorgTheElder · 1 pointr/OculusQuest

That more than meets the needs of the Quest. I am not personally familar with that brand. If I don't know the brand, I usually stick with items with the Amazon's Choice marker as that means that Amazon had not had a lot of returns on the item.

If you can afford it, I would go a little more money for the same size in a name brand:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DDF8CNK/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_8GhZCb0FMGFVE

If price is an issue, I would go smaller to get a name brand:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XS9RMWS/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_wFhZCb6D7B87F

Also note that, as far as we can tell, the Quest will not take advantage of the power of a Quick Charge pack, so any 2.1A pack should be fine.

u/vgeh · 1 pointr/Ultralight

For overnight and maybe even 2 night trips, I can push a 3000 mAh battery with single recharge. Will look into the 6700 version. Is it this one?

u/velo443 · 1 pointr/cycling

Take your pick. Here's a very small one: https://smile.amazon.com/Anker-PowerCore-Lipstick-Sized-Generation-Batteries/dp/B005X1Y7I2/. It probably has enough power to last your entire commute and then some. I have a 6500mAh battery pack similar to this: https://smile.amazon.com/Upgraded-Anker-Candy-Bar-High-Speed-Technology/dp/B06XS9RMWS/. I'd say it would power the light for an hour or two. I stick it in a jacket pocket and the cable just hangs across to the light on the handlebars. You could also use a velcro strap or small bag to attach the battery to the bike, if you want.

And the nice thing is that the battery pack can also be used to charge your phone when you're away from home. I chose the light after I already had the battery pack.

as others have mentioned she's probably using LED's. it's an easily attainable effect without flashes. i use LED usb lights with external battery packs for all my low-lighting needs. here's an example of a scene i illuminated with that setup. i've also got this usb powered strip of full RGB LED's that i intend to use for various lighting situations.

Less of an issue if it's not there as opposed to microSD slots.

You can always install one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Version-Wireless-Charging-Receiver-Nillkin/dp/B06Y5FDXD4/

u/JackSpoons · 1 pointr/PickAnAndroidForMe

Built-in wireless charging is typically limited to higher end phones. It might make more sense to get a lower end phone like a Moto X4 and slap a Qi receiver on the back plus a case.

I have a relative on Google Fi. It works pretty well and is fairly cheap for low data users. I use Mint Mobile, it's even cheaper but customer support is, shall we say, not top notch. They have a trial offer if you want to see what reception is like in your area.

u/BlankTales · 1 pointr/GooglePixel

That could work out pretty well. With my job i usually have some heavier duty cases and the wireless charging had worked through them pretty well.

Well I have the round clear fast charger but I just realized they have a dock style for a dollar more https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Charger-Charging-Samsung-Sleep-friendly/dp/B06ZYLQ2TP/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1496211803&sr=8-4&keywords=pleson+fast+charger

I have the round one but I 3d printed a dock for it, basically upgrading it into this one I linked, and it is much better and easier to use. The circular ones are hard to line up properly, especially in the dark at night. The upright dock is better.

u/GoMonkey66 · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

Regarding "fast charging"...I have a different dock (this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06ZYLQ2TP/ ), and it's totally dependent on the adapter you plug the USB cable into. If the charger adapter is the Samsung fast charger that you get with the phone then yes, it'll fast charge. Really, unless you're trying to be brand loyal, there's no point in overpaying for the Samsung one. It's WAY more expensive than comparable wireless charging stands for no real reason. Ok, it includes the fast adapter (the part you plug in), but you already have one of those (and if you've used other Samsung phones you most certainly do) then don't pay 4x the price just because the charger says "Samsung" on it.

u/TheAmazingAaron · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

I fast charge mine wirelessly and it's definitely never 'hot'. I would say slightly warm to the touch but never even very warm. I didn't realize you can check the temp, but I will look and see where it's at. Something is wrong if it's getting hot to the touch.

I have this Pleson charger.

And this Pasonomi charger.

They both charge at the same rate, but I prefer the Pleson because it turns the LED off when charging.

u/lkleckner · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

I have used wireless charging since my S3 days, the latest charger I bought was this one (I wanted fast charging) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06ZYLQ2TP/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It looks great, you don't have to look for a "sweet spot" when placing the phone on it, and the light goes off after 10 seconds for bedroom use.

u/Scottiedog5000 · 1 pointr/iPhoneX

I got a wireless charging stand for my desk, which has been great because you can look at the phone to unlock it and see notifications without having to take it off the charger.

For this purpose I would recommend this instead: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BQJWDRM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_yt3RCbDZ6XARB

This charger is 60W instead of 45W and is cheaper. Belkin products are usually marked up a bit too much for my liking. You will have to buy a separate cable for this charger though (Anker also makes some really nice ones)
